Kevin Vistisen hails from the east side of Michigan, near Detroit.  Kevin is like a lot of us,  He has a passion for deer hunting.  He puts in long hours at work, spends time with his family, and daydreams about what is strolling past his soaking trail camera.  He and crew have in addition to just loving deer hunting, have put a foot forward in creating and strengthening the hunting culture.  Through his own podcast, DeerHunter Podcast, topics range from old school deer camp talk, to cutting edge tactics on getting closer to deer.  Usually accompanied by the familiar sound of beer cans cracking, their mission is Entertain, Educate, and Evolve the modern day deer hunter.Nick and Kevin take their sweet time here on this conversation, going nowhere quickly but hitting some topics that are very timely and profound.  Kevin talks about his own experience with how social media can be a trap for sportsmen.  What starts as an innocent “this or that” can quickly turn into a divisive pissing match.  Kevin says that what our community needs is some flexibility with each other.  With the rest of the world becoming more polarizing and anti-hunting groups getting more organized, we need more than ever to unified.Moving into the venison talk, Kevin is no stranger to having his deer dropped off to a processor.  Relationship is the key, he says.  I trust the man, whose profession it is to cut meat.  Near his home is a butcher shop, and through conversations and interactions has made himself known to the shop.  Maybe it’s cause Nick is weird, but in Kevin’s film “The Forest” he says the line “1 pound of ground, makes 10 tacos”.  It has not baring on the film, but Nick has been stuck on it.  For Kevin, it seems like a easy way to calculate how much to thaw for a large gathering. You can find Deerhunter Podcast wherever podcast are downloaded or head over to: www.deerhunterpodcast.comTappecue Meat ProbesInstagram: @tappecueWebsite: https://bit.ly/2NIr0XjCoupon Code 10% off: HUNT10 Huntavore is Powered by Simplecast

This week on 5.6.7.EIGHT, Aleksandra speaks with Kevin Iega Jeff — Artistic Director, Executive Director and Cofounder at Chicago’s Deeply Rooted Dance Theater. Throughout his career, Jeff has collaborated on a wide range of professional and community-based projects, including Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It; The Academy Awards; and The Wiz on Broadway. Kevin has received countless accolades for his work, including being named one of Julliard School’s top 100 Outstanding Alumni.  For Kevin, a dance company is only as good as its people. And, as an artist in dance leadership, it is his responsibility to look after the good of those that fall underneath him — and to do anything less would risk losing his organization. On the podcast, Kevin dives deep on his philosophies as a dance leader and gets “in the weeds” on how to build the foundation for a successful dance company that keeps its people at the center.   Moving Quotes: "If my company was just about dance, we might have folded during the more difficult times. But that never crossed our mind because growing people is at the core of the work. To grow communities." "In a capitalistic-focused society, we can tend to lose the spiritual value of how we engage with each other." "If you can support people through their errors, on the other side of that, you build an incredible amount of trust. You build an incredible amount of visioning and a safe space for you to collaborate." "Management is art, and art is management. Because you're engaging with people. And the reason why management is there is because things won't work perfectly, and people will need guidance." "[We've thrived for 25 years because] we identified and began planting the seeds for intergenerational leadership, so that we could make the organic transitions that the organization required to thrive over 25 years, as needed." "We [put rules in place around dialogues] so that we can move on with the productivity of the business of the organization, while also making sure that we're being accountable to the human engagement. Which is the only way things are going to work. If you lose the human engagement, you lose your organization." "In my education, having parallel worlds between the professional and the academic were really important to me. I also think mentoring is key."   Bullet Points (w/ timestamps) - Highlighting key topics discussed: 3:15: Kevin discusses the origins of his company — Deeply Rooted Dance Theater — and his current role with the company. 6:08: Kevin explains the secret behind Deeply Rooted’s success, as it embarks upon its 25th year as a dance company.  11:44: Jeff describes the process that went into crafting his dance company’s compelling mission statement and gives some tips for anyone looking to do the same. 16:32: Jeff sheds some incredible insight into how he managed to create a sustainable business plan for his dance company, while also honoring its core values. 22:26: Kevin walks through his earliest dance journey and discusses the value of hard work and delayed gratification. 28:05: Jeff explains what was most beneficial about his dance education. 32:19: Kevin describes the importance of self-positioning in order to make the best decisions possible and how he is spending his life helping others do that well.   Bullet List of Resources –  Kevin Iega Jeff LinkedIn   Deeply Rooted Dance Theater Company Website Instagram Facebook Twitter YouTube

For this episode, we’re going to talk about adventures, roles, and behind the scenes of an Eco-Challenge. Our guest is Kevin Hodder which is a race director, will give us more information on how he got into that role and how they manage all of the things for the Eco-Challenge.     In this episode, you will hear about:   How Kevin got his way into an adventurous lifestyle and job How did Kevin get into Eco-Challenge? Why has Kevin gone through this avenue? His Role Philosophy of course creation How to get into Adventure race management   [0:50] Kevin says that it started with their parents. His dad was a field geologist and started inviting Kevin to come along. And so they have adventures together, principally for his father’s work but also part of Kevin growing up.   [2:44] At the time where there was a registration for the Eco challenge in their town, Kevin is working as a Mountain Guide. The race organization was looking for a mountain guide that would both work on the race and guide the camera crews into more adventurous parts. Kevin got a 3-week job working as a guide.   [3:42] Then he got a call asking if he could work race management, accepted it, and instantly grab the opportunity. He worked for 11 years, in 5 different countries and 4 different productions.   [5:52] Kevin said that he always liked events and competitions. He likes working on things that are project-based and be involved in something that is exciting.   [8:49] They went and walked and paddled and grind, climbed the entire racecourse in Fiji. For Kevin, that’s one of the things that he takes a lot of pride in. That he personally travel every inch of that course in the same capacity, carrying the same load as the athletes.   [12:38] Kevin takes on getting the permit for both filming and for racing. And Everyone had to give their consent to allow them to go through, and other things like the coast guard, ministry of transportation. It’s a long process that takes 9-10 months.   [16:57] As a participant in events and races and sports, what Kevin look for in a race director is somebody that is as enthusiastic about their race as the most enthusiastic participant. ‘My job is trying to give you success and power you information, motivation, to have an amazing race experience” said Kevin.   [19:00] During the course design phase, Kevin constantly think of the questions like, Is this reasonable? Is this too much? Is this too easy or should we at this stage get them off their feet because they have been trudging for 70 kilometers by this point? So that’s the process.   [23:15] That’s eco-challenge. You can’t have this plan. Both on how you’re going to manage the race or how you can raise the race.   [28:23]  And that was a real challenge both to educate the crew and educate all of the teams that yes, you are going to Fiji, a beautiful tropical island, but the risk of hypothermia is going to be high.   [34:13] You look at your experience, you have this amazing 6-month journey. During that 6 month journey, you learned all these things, skills, increase your health and your endurance through your physical training, you learn a lot about yourself.   [37:32]  One advice that Kevin give young people a lot is that you’ve got to have this third thing in your life. That third passion.   [44:33] The outdoors doesn’t generally present a gender specificity. Our culture and our mindset and how we’re raised in communities can kind of dictate gender specificity.   [47:08] One great way to do it, the path that Kevin follow is to become a certified guide. That’s a way that gives potential employers the assurance that you have a certain amount of skills. That certification should get you the interview and that you should get yourself the job. Start by volunteering at races in your local community or your local country. Kevin also said that they’re always looking for volunteers. So show yourself as the great assets that can expand your future.   Key Quotes:   [32:19] “That’s part of adventure racing really is, getting to know yourself and your abilities and what you do well, what you struggle at.”   [39:18] “Adventure is really a state of mind.”   ***   EPISODE CREDITS:   If you like this podcast and are thinking of creating your own, consider talking to my producer, Danny Ozment. You might not have thought about it, but surviving the coffee and nut butter business in a pandemic turns out to be a pretty accurate bellwether of what's going on in the economy. Coffee and Nut Butter, Round 1 In the second week of March of this year, 2020, I sat down at a table at Commander's Palace for what I thought was going to be a regular Out to Lunch show. It turned out to be a great show. I had a very interesting conversation with two fascinating people who were both building successful businesses. One of my guests was Eliot Guthrie, co-founder of Congregation Coffee. Eliot told me how they roast their own beans and supply coffee to over 70 New Orleans restaurants, including Brennan's, Patois, Paladar 511, Marjie's Grill, and Donald Link's restaurants. He also told me how he started up two coffee shops – one in Algiers and another in the CBD – that capitalized on his culinary background. My other guest that day was Kevin Bratcher, co-founder and Director of Business Operations at a company called Supreme Specialty Foods. Among other items, the company's signature product is a healthy alternative to peanut butter, called Beyond the Equator. It's a totally nut-free butter that's made with five seeds – chia, flax, pumpkin, sunflower, and hemp. Kevin told me Beyond The Equator is available in over 600 stores in 25 states. And on Amazon. Then, after our conversation, Eliot, Kevin, and I walked out of Commander's Palace, and the whole world changed. Coffee and Nut Butter, Round 2: the pandemic Today, as a result of the ongoing pandemic, Commander's Palace is still closed. And Eliot Guthrie's Coffee business and Kevin Bratcher's seed butter business have changed too. So, to find out how the global pandemic is affecting New Orleans business, we're meeting up again today. This time not at Commander's palace, but around our virtual lunch table. For Eliot and Congregation Coffee, with a reliance on supplying coffee to restaurants and having their own retail outlets, they have had some challenges since we last spoke back in March. For Kevin's business, things are a little different. During the lockdown period of the pandemic, the only retail outlets open were grocery stores. And a lot of people who wanted to avoid going out at all, and who may have never even thought about buying groceries online, got very familiar with Instacart.  Both of those new realities have had an impact on Supreme Specialty Foods.  Photos from this conversation by Jill Lafleur are on our website. Sex up your brand with Sharon Zehavi We're talking to Sharon today, all the way from Toronto, Canada, about branding. She's telling us how to sex up your brand! Sex up your brand What a memorable name! Well, you'd expect so from a marketing expert! Graham mentioned she's always wearing red and black and, Sharon says, this is because red and black are very powerful colours. They are associated with passion, fire and risk, boldness. It corresponds with her personality. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Sex-up-your-brand.mp4 The way you're attractive to your target market, of course, depends on who that market is. Everything must be catered to them. For example, Sharon needs to be bold and ballsy to make a statement to her clientele and attract those who, too, want to be ballsy with their marketing and branding. If you know your target market well, which you should, you should know how you need to present yourself to attract the people you want. You should know the sort of messages they will find attractive and intriguing, what questions you can solve for them, etc. For Kevin's brand and the accounting sector, you would look at competency and safety. Maybe organised and done-for-you. Because, the main thing people want from an accountant is their accounts to be taken off their hands and sorted for them. Branding - what they feel about you and what they know about you before they meet you. What helps brand? Sometimes it's not about colour. Sometimes, it's about positioning and credibility. You can sex up your brand by showing how you are different from other people. Sharon says this doesn't mean you have to be so aggressively different that you're unrecognisable from the industry. You just need one thing that makes people choose you over 'any' accountant (for example). Identity http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/What-is-a-brand.mp4 Branding isn't random. Brand is something you build to create an identity people will relate to. That's why Nike or Adidas can produce a t-shirt with just a logo, and it will snapped up by many people. This is because so many recognise and relate to the brand. However, even when you know your target market, you know the values, etc - mistakes will be made. This is the case for small and large companies both. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Do-brands-need-to-preach.mp4 How do you work out what your brand should be in the first place? When you work with a small business where you just have a product or service, the first step is about knowing who your target market is. And really knowing. Identify what their behaviours are like and what their set of values are. As a result, you can connect with them on a different level. Most of the times people decide not to work with you, it's not actually about the product or the service. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Knowing-who-your-client-is.mp4 It's like going on a date: if you know the priorities and the things that the person cares about, and you show them you care about them, then you have a better likelihood a long term relationship can start. Values When you know your values, that will drive every decision you make all the way to customer service, and the emails you send, etc. The more loyal you are to the brand, the more customers will be loyal to the brand. How do you service clients? It depends on what point they are at in their business. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/how-do-you-service-clients.mp4 One of the first things she does is look at what's already happening. What are your services/products? What's already out there? After that, it can be quite unique to every specific company. Because, once they know who they're targeting, there's a strategy for every step of the way to the business goals. Sharon's motto What can I do for you? Most people think about their selves first - wh...

Hi, Travelers. We are postponing this week’s episode for a few reasons, but one of them is that we’d like to take a moment to focus on this historical moment and to say that Black Lives Matter. The Black community’s fight for human rights is not by any means a new one, but we do find ourselves in a time when many more non-Black people are waking up to it. We think it’s important to ask ourselves who we want to be at this crucial moment in history, and to behave in a way that we can be proud of. With that in mind, neither of us are Black, so we can only speak for non-Black people and what we feel we ought to be doing under the circumstances. Those things are: Protesting Supporting the protests Donating to Black-led organizations that are fighting racism, police brutality, and the prison industrial complex Helping to educate and spread information Emailing/calling elected officials Talking to our own friends and family members who are not yet ready to be a part of the movement. We will be putting links in the show notes where you can get information and find out more about how to support the BLM movement, but because we have already seen a lot of resources on #1-5, we wanted to talk a bit more about #6. For Sophie, what that looks like is helping to educate family members who are already intellectually and emotionally in support of BLM, but are not yet sure how to participate. They sent their family members the Antiracist Allyship Starter Pack document (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1bUJrgX8vspyy7YttiEC2vD0DawrpPYiZs94V0ov7qZQ/htmlview), and they proposed that we each pick a few articles or videos to read/watch and then discuss as a family. That way, they are making it something they can do together, and acting as a resource but not a lecturer. For Kevin, what that looks like is talking to loved ones who are coming from a very conservative starting point. He has learned that debating people is not actually a functional tactic, as much as he might like it to be, so he has created a document (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UVPSv_Fa5mHQIkkPCy38PJgQle4qtcyOJ-lsASh7SMk/edit) with some tips on how to get initially resistant friends or family members to align themselves with BLM without trying to debate them. In his words it truly was a life or death decision. His purpose today is to be the person that he needed when he was at his lowest point. For Kevin that moment came at what would appear to be an unlikely time. From the outside looking in his life was great. He had a 6-figure income working as a construction foreman and lots of expensive toys. Things started to unravel when his girlfriend left him. Things spiralled out of control and reached a point where he thought about ending his own life. His decision to start the Hyper Conscious Podcast with his co host Alan Lazaros was the beginning of a remarkable turnaround. In this episode Kevin: Tells us how his focus on external things led him to the brink Says he still wants nicer things but wants to get them differently Reminds us that the biggest part of business is staying in business Shares that he suffers from extreme anxiety and explains how he deals with it States emphatically that he won’t fail his current girlfriend Suggests that most people wait to long to pursue the side gig full time Says that when you’re in the water you learn how to swim faster Talks about growing up in a single parent home with no good male role models Says that he’s always felt like an underdog  And says you should never quit the journey but we should quit things that aren’t right for you Kevin is on an amazing personal development journey. Garry Turner is this week’s guest on the Higher Purpose Podcast. He is the host of the Value Through Vulnerability podcast and was a guest on Episode 90 of this show. Kevin describes him as a great connector of people. They discuss his awakening, how his life is different post-awakening and the joy of connecting. Waking Up Garry recently delivered a keynote address at the Ignite Conference in Switzerland. His topic was Waking Up to Purpose, Meaning, and Connection. Kevin asks why he used the term waking up. He replies that five years ago he had already achieved everything society said was important, but he had a hollow feeling in his heart. That was the start of his awakening. He realized that he was sleepwalking through life: he was only focusing on the outside and neglecting his inner self. He describes his awakening as a gradual process that included taking deliberate action but then experiencing burnout. It was his coach that led him to realize that the outside world didn’t cause his burnout, but that he did it to himself by believing that he was not good enough. Life Post Awakening When he accepted that he was the cause of his own burnout, Garry felt a release and freedom from feeling like a victim. He now believes that he is good enough. He does not attach his identity to making money or outside validation. He can now appreciate insights that did not mean much before. I just feel more vibrant, he says. He has more capacity and is more productive because he does not waste so much energy thinking that he is not enough. Kevin comments that we expend so much energy in fantasy conversations that don’t take us any place good. He asks Garry to speak to listeners who may be feeling inadequate or hopeless. Garry assures listeners that they are enough and to actively connect with other people. If you need a listening ear, he invites you to reach out to him or Kevin personally. The Joy of Connecting You feel a sense of belonging when you’re part of a community where you can connect with others and just be yourself. We’re all innately connected because we’re part of the human race, Garry says. If you think you don’t belong, you’re overthinking your way away from belonging. Kevin agrees with that assessment. He asks Garry whether his awakening prompted him to be a great connector, or if he has always been that way. Garry responds that he’s always been good at developing meaningful relationships, but his awakening made this ability more pronounced. For him, connecting people is more a flow state than an active energy. It’s very intuitive, he says. For Kevin, it’s a deep calling and almost like a duty. He says that it’s like he is responding to an invitation to do something and who knows the impact it might have! Everything opens up when you’re connected, Garry says. He experiences a transformation in his ability to be present and empathetic, to serve, and to love himself as part of the bigger system. His life is richer for just being open to all life has to offer. But that country doesn't recognize Daylight Saving Time, so for part of the year it was Mountain Time. With clients and team members in several countries, a dozen different time zones, and different cultures, timing and communication paired with digital-first communication meant a lot of effective, efficient communication, a dash of empathy and a generous portion of grace. Without great communication and lots of empathy, it's much more difficult to grow your business and your team.Tracking Assets as a Growth-Minded CEOAs the CEO, Kevin says, it's your job to grow your employees, not your customers. It took him a little time to discover this philosophy and truly implement it, but Kevin says he's so glad he did. Kevin used to think that the "stream of income" he had to focus on were the clients. Over the years he's realized that his focus should center on the team, since they're the ones producing for those clients. If he focuses on the team, the team can focus on the clients. 🤯This mindset shift means Kevin focuses on developing the assets of Lean Labs - the employees. As the development moves forward, the team is then responsible for developing and implementing for clients. It seems like a small shift, and a common-sense approach, but Kevin said it was life changing to the growth in his business over the last 18 months.Running Your Business by Getting Out of Your BubbleRunning an American company from a different country can help you get out of your bubble. For Kevin, that meant going from his market in Kansas City, where his local work brought him to a level of known and trusted, to a different world where remote work led to a new network where Kevin and the brand were not as known. Kevin ran a small agency - himself and two other people - for about 10 years. He knew how market, he owned about 75% of it, and he was comfortable. "With my customers, my network, my circle of friends, my sphere of influence, my neighborhood... we were doing well," Kevin says. "It was a dream life where we worked and I was able to go to the lake on Fridays and spend time with my family. I liked it so much, I wanted more freedom." That's when Kevin moved his family to Costa Rica. In about six months, his circle had grown to the point where he realized his success in Kansas City was a much smaller pie than he had thought."I had climbed through the foothills and thought I'd climbed a mountain. Only to see that the mountain was still in front of me." - Kevin Barber on perspectiveKevin found himself surrounded by other business owners and entrepreneurs with larger businesses, which drove him to see a new perspective. So he launched Lean Labs with a new mindset for a marketing agency, and found even greater success - even though at times he felt like a small fish in a large ocean. Kevin's lesson - Get out of your bubble for a new perspective. Maybe it's not moving to a foreign country. But you can step outside of your sphere and learn how the rest of the world works. In episode 201 of Journey to $100 Million, Kevin dives into the experiences of starting his first business. Kevin was only 23 when he founded this company. He had no money saved, no capital investments, no loans - nothing at all to start-up his website design company. For Kevin, this experience was very challenging and scary, and he speaks on how if it was not for his wife, he probably could not have made this happen. When he first started this company, all he had was an apartment on a street by the beach with a couple of roommates. He set up a computer with basic software and started building websites. In doing this, he formulated a concept, created his own website, and started to market himself as the website guy. At that time he still had the stability of his day job and there wasn't a lot of risk at that point, until a year later when he quit his job and dropped everything to dedicate all his time to his business. Stay tuned into future episodes to learn more about this experience: how he was able to fund this company, the challenges that came along with it, and how much he ended up making! — Erik J. Apple agrees and further emphasize the importance of letting team members try out other roles as a means of facing a new challenge for them. As much as it makes sense, the competitiveness and the active search for the next challenge is something that Kevin has mixed feelings towards because it's not something that always happens. He thinks that it's a challenge because he knows that there are a lot of people that are very passive. They would not have the initiative to request these changes and so they'll just be waiting for the management to do it for them. However, if you find a person that is continuously looking for more challenges, more things to do, that's when you know that you find someone that's worth keeping. Those who have initiative, those who want to grow, those who want to face new challenges even though they're not part of their job description. Honestly, letting teammates freely look for new opportunities within the office is possible, but not necessarily easy to do. For Kevin, keeping millennial employees from leaving isn't just about bringing them new challenges. One thing he really values is the culture and close communication with the management. We've continually provided many avenues wherein our team members can communicate their thoughts and concerns with us. And based on his observations, those who participated, those who were open to sharing their thoughts and feelings tend to stay longer, when compared to those who were apathetic. Connecting with our teammates on a more personal level really helps. Since we can understand what they're going through and we'll provide advice and wisdom. Once you have this kind of relationship, you'll feel as if you have developed a different yet mutual respect for one another. Basically speaking, in order to keep millennials from leaving your company, there should be an active connection between the management and the team members. For many businesses, this connection is relatively hard to pull off, that's why I plan on releasing Teamstrr, a software that helps do just that later this year. Teamstrr aims to close the gap between team members and the management by providing a means where the team can share their thoughts, what they're thinking and feeling, to the management. This did beg the question of whether or not sharing their thoughts is a big deal for them, the Millennials. To start off the conversation, Kevin first stated that the majority of millennials are introverts. The majority of millennials are selfishly passionate. I believe that they're also primarily introverts solely because of the rise of digital. Take for example our childhood. Me and Kevin never really played with our neighbors. We had our TV, our Play Station and those were enough to make it feel like we were socializing digitally. We were cultivated to be introverts. That being said, most introverts become sociable through the use of digital systems. This is what Teamstrr aims to solve. It is a platform where the team can share their inner thoughts. Apple shares that the capability to share inner thoughts is something special. Some of our recent applicants share that in their previous jobs, all they do is just that. They don't really get to talk to the management, overtime was encouraged, everything was nothing short of toxic. They felt like they were robots. With Teamstrr, we can make every individual feel human. Everyone will almost always have something that they're going through, and that can definitely spill into the workplace. Through this tool, we can focus on empathizing with our team as well as to let them know that there is someone much like a mentor that is willing to give the time to empathize and to pray for you. This is a big Support the show (https://tribe.leadershipstack.com/)

Perhaps to best understand the musical and lyrical vision of four-time Grammy winning singer Kevin Max, it is necessary to turn to the musings of Nick Cave, another great minstrel of the rock and roll scene: “In the end, I am not interested in that which I fully understand, songs I have written over the years are just a veneer. There are truths that lie beneath the surface of the words—truths that rise up without warning like the humps of a sea monster and then disappear. What writing is to me is finding a way to tempt the monster to the surface. To create a space where the creature can break through what is real and what is known to us. This shimmering space where imagination and reality intersect, this is where all love and tears and joy exist. This is where we live.” Kevin Max too lives in such an intersection of truth and mystery, creating spaces that ponder the wilderness that is the human condition. In his own words: “I challenge and test the spirits when I write, because we all have to go on that journey of understanding what we believe in over and over again.” For Kevin, like Nick Cave before him, the process of writing a song becomes a fusion of questions and observations, both from his own life and from those to whom he has born witness in his journey as a singer, a poet, an actor, a novelist. He remains a storyteller whose fountain of artistry never seems to run dry and always challenges his audience to search for meaning in their own journeys.

In all the episodes I've had, I've yet to hear a guest talk about how easy it was to make their way to the top. In fact, many of them had their greatest epiphanies when staring down a bowl of Ramen noodles. So I faced Kevin Neff's new show, "Speaking of Success," with some trepidation. Is it going to be a sound bite of how Entrepreneur X took their company to $6B in 6 months? His answer is refreshing. Some of his guests aren't even "famous" at all. Or some tell stories of how they've fallen from grace to build success from the ashes. The best revelations are toward the end when Kevin offers some self-reflection on how he defines success for himself. On Branding: You'll find many pearls in this episode in Kevin's notorious in-your-face rapid-fire delivery. How do you not only GRAB their attention but KEEP their attention? "Your brand should punch people in the face. You're not a grain of sand on the beach, you're a grain of sand on all the beaches of the world." And thus begins our entry into the world of Kevin Makes Sense.com How he met Mark Shulman Kevin's no stranger to punching people in the face with his branding. An 8' tall banner attracted Mark Schulman - drummer for Pink, Beyonce, Cher, Billy Idol (among others,) to Kevin's booth at the National Speakers Association convention. The banner pictured an electric chair with "Don't Be a Dead Brand Walking - Give Your Marketing a Jolt" emblazoned on the front. He got the gig. Kevin continues,"Your brand should speak for you even if you're not in the room." His take on C-Suite Network CEO Jeffrey Hayzlett: We talked about our mutual experience interviewing Jeffrey Hayzlett; yes, you sit up straighter in your seat and you'd better be quick on your feet; Jeffrey doesn't suffer fools. Only Kevin Neff would be able to boldly ask about the gift Jeffrey Hayzlett received from KISS Gene Simmons. Take a listen to learn what it is (and yes, I laughed...) When did Kevin know when he was successful? It's easy to assume you gain success by garnering the spotlight, and grabbing it by results. For Kevin, there was a time where success was making it month-to-month. He talks about going from hero to zero overnight and went from 6 figures to nothing. This experience helped him re-define success, "Success is doing biz w/ people you wanna work with, do work you enjoy doing and getting results for clients and knowing they would refer and use us again." He still faults himself on caring TOO much about what others think. "People wear failure like a lapel pin, but failure can sometimes be part of the process. It's what comes out of the failure - Did you pick yourself up by the bootstraps?" One and Done - do it right the first time. We talked about setting plans in motion and dealing with doubt. "If this doesn't work, what's Plan B? There is no Plan B... Plan B means there's an iota of failure." For Kevin, he can't have a seed of doubt. He would be so distracted by that grain of sand of doubt, that it would take his time and focus away from Plan A. What you focus on grows - focus on doing it right the first time. On this episode we’re joined by the two-time champion, nine-time All-Star and MVP, Kevin Durant. Kevin and Gil go way back to Agent Zero’s days in DC when KD was a young, up-and-coming hooper -- that’s Seat Pleasant and the DMV. We learn Kevin slows the game down, and when he put it all together to be effective at the highest level. He also takes a minute to acknowledge where he’s at in this window of the prime of his career. More importantly, how he’s playing with true happiness. We also find out what it’s like to get every team’s best shot, and also how to keep your focus when you blow them out. And what we’ve always wanted to know, how they decide in the huddle who gets the last shot. For Kevin and the Warriors there is a different level of sacrafice that comes with the territory, which is maybe what we should appreciate most about their dominance. For Gil and Kevin what they have in common is the priority of basketball over everything. With that in mind, how they approach choices players make not only in their careers, but also their lives. Make no mistake about it, the money and the status is major, but the championship is the ultimate dream.

Today’s guest is Brian’s long-time friend, Kevin Easterly. Currently investing in the West, Kevin and Brian met at a mobile home park boot camp. In today’s episode, Kevin shares stories of the good, bad, and ugly sides of real estate. Tune in to hear about the lessons he learned, and how he’s succeeding today.   Key Takeaways:   [2:10] Kevin didn’t have the best experience with his first mobile home park. He ended up putting more money into it than he was getting back and it turned into a money pit. He lost about $100,000 in a year on the property once he sold it. [6:15] After that loss, Kevin started researching and studying multi-family properties; he started going to shows and boot camps to learn more. He also got a mentor — finding someone who knows what they’re doing is a great asset to people just getting started in the business. [9:55] After the mobile home park, Kevin made his way through some single-family flips and four-plexes. He eventually purchased a 57-unit with two other partners; they all went in together and pulled the money. [11:40] The 57-unit uses the same principles as a four-plex or an eight-plex. You are still responsible for the interiors and the rehab, you just have to watch your numbers. After they found the deal, they got a traditional loan. [12:50] Kevin talks about the specifics of the loan, and what differs for commercial loans. With commercial loans, a lot of it is based on the building itself. To get the loan you need the down payment (usually a larger percentage down than single-family homes), prior experience, and what your plan for the property is. [15:28] If you don’t have prior experience, you can get someone who has the experience to sponsor the deal. That way your name is on the loan. You usually give the sponsor a percentage of the deal, and they’re usually non-recourse — they can’t come after your personal assets. [18:50] Currently, Kevin has 105 units total in Arizona and Nevada. He found one of his bigger complexes through a property manager, which is a great way to find any type of property. [23:20] Buying local, or close to where you live, is important. If you live close to your properties, it’s easier to get there to check on things. You can get to the property and back in a work day, which is convenient for people with families. [25:40] In addition to his multi-family units, Kevin also has some franchises. Advertising and marketing are essential for real estate, but especially the franchises. For Kevin’s current franchise ventures, he could eventually sell and make money on them. [30:15] Moving forward, Kevin and his team plan on picking up at least 30 more franchises next year. That will hopefully allow them to buy $40 million/year in property. [31:35] Kevin has a multi-family/franchise Facebook community, where other people share about themselves and Kevin learns how he can provide value. [34:05] You shouldn’t be buying for appreciation; you want to be buying for cash flow. This is especially true in a down market. [36:00] Kevin is really building his personal brand. A lot of people encounter a block where they don’t know how they’re going to get to the next level with their goals. You have to tell people what you’re doing and what you hope to achieve — the more you spread the word, you never know what kind of opportunities will arise. [38:50] The idea behind Kevin’s Facebook group is that he’s going to hold members accountable and make them take action. Being a part of these groups and attending seminars/masterminds is crucial to taking your business to the next level. [41:20] Pay to be in the right room with the right people — networking is what it’s all about! Go to shows, get coaching, and read every day. Those three things are Kevin’s keys to success.   Mentioned in This Episode:   Meetings Daily REIA Show Facebook Page Brian’s Book 10X Facebook Group

In this episode Phil’s guest is Kevin L Jackson, who is a senior information technologist specializing in information technology solutions that meet critical business and mission operational requirements.  Kevin is founder and CEO of Gov Cloud Network. He is also a published author and a regular speaker.  Over the years, he has worked with many different companies including IBM, JPMorgan Chase &Co, and the SENTEL Corporation. He also enjoyed a 15-year US Navy career as a pilot and aeronautical engineer. KEY TAKEAWAYS: (0.52) – Phil asks Kevin to tell everyone a little more about himself. Kevin explains that his IT career began while he was serving in the Navy. For 10 years he was a carrier pilot but, later, he trained as an aerospace engineer. In that role he worked on Low Earth Orbit Systems, which are used to deliver vital information to the Navy and Marine Corps. His work as an aeronautical engineer gradually led him into the IT sector. This was before the modern internet existed. Instead he worked with the early packet-switching network The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) and HoTMetal one of the earliest HTML authoring software packages. (4.21) – Phil asks Kevin if he has a unique career tip to share. Kevin’s advice is – "Don't do a job unless you have a personal goal in doing it, unless at the end of your timeframe and that job, you're going to attain a goal that you want." (5.18) – Phil then asks Kevin what you should do if you lose enthusiasm for a project part way through. Kevin explains you need to remember that everything in life is connected. While completing that job you will inevitably learn new skills that will benefit you in the future. Every year, Kevin imagines where he wants to be in five years and works out how what he has learned in the previous year can be used to get him to where he wants to be. (6.10) – Phil points out that every career has its ups and downs. The path to success is not a linear one. (6.40) – Phil asks Kevin to share his worse IT career moment. Kevin went on to talk about the fear he felt when he lost a job because the firm he was working for went out of business. It was an experience that demonstrated to him the importance of building a true career and believing in himself. The fact that he had done this enabled him to fall back on his network and quickly identify his next step. (7.50) – Phil then wanted to know about Kevin’s career highlight. When he left the military, Kevin worked on the New Horizon spacecraft for NASA, which travelled to Pluto and photographed it. Working on this project was his career highlight. But, unusually, it took him 10 years to realize this was the case. The spacecraft took 10 years to reach the planet and for Kevin’s work to bear fruit. Only at that point did he really understand that he had worked on something that the whole of humanity could benefit from. (10.11) – Phil asked Kevin to tell everyone what it is about the future of the IT industry and careers that excites him. For Kevin the fact that IT is now a business driver rather than just a “must do” task is exciting. Information Technology is now seen as an enabler. Technology is now pushing the pace of business change. (12.06) – What is the best career advice you’ve ever received? Surprisingly, Kevin said it came from The Art of War by Sun Tzu. Simply put it is “know thy self”. (12.36) – Phil asked Kevin what he would do if he were to start his IT career again. Kevin said he would focus on the application of the technology rather than the details of the information technology. He explained that you need to understand how and why stuff works. (13.22) – What are you focusing on now Kevin? Building a strong network is an important aspect of any successful career. Kevin explained that connecting with others, understanding their thoughts and exchanging ideas all help to bring your own thoughts and ideas into sharper focus. Doing this has really helped Kevin to accelerate his career. (14.33) – Phil asked Kevin, What is your number one non-technical skill? Kevin explained that writing was something he struggled with for many years. He did not really see it as an important or relevant skill for him. When he started to write his blog he began to find writing much easier and found that doing it drastically improved his ability to communicate. (15.49) – Kevin shares a last piece of career advice by explaining that it is important not to underestimate the power of social media connections. They are crucial. BEST MOMENTS: (4.32)  Kevin - "The best thing to do for any career is to do something you love. If you're not doing something that you enjoy, you won't be good at it." (6.10) Phil - "Using what you've learned, what you've taken on board over the recent period to understand where you might be able to go in the future." (6.19) Kevin - "You're always doing a course correction in your career. Don't expect to be right at the very beginning. You don't know enough to be right." (6.32) Phil - "A lot of people think about careers as being linear, and they're not at all They take all sorts of routes and paths and ups and downs." (7.58) Kevin - "A lot of highlights in your life come from things that you don't expect." (10.18) Kevin - "IT is no longer just something you have to do to be in business, it drives business, it creates new business models." (12.10) Kevin - "The best career advice actually came from a book, Sun Tzu's The Art of War and it was basically - know thy self." (13.29) Kevin - "Your career is really mostly about your network and the network, in today's world, is mostly not a physical network. It's a virtual network." Happy Holidays Wonderlings, How’s your December been so far? Ready for the big day next Monday? Hard to believe that Christmas is a week from today. Got all your gifts bought and wrapped? Holiday cards all mailed out? Make any Christmas cookies yet? I am so excited for this episode I watch it every December to get into the Christmas spirit. Let’s jump into the fun filled holiday fun time with S2E3 Christmas which aired on December 14, 1988. In this episode Kevin and Wayne try to convince Jack to buy a color television for Christmas. Meanwhile Kevin tries to find the perfect present for Winnie after she unexpectedly gives him a present. I’m giving this episode 5 out of 5 Flower Power Petals: 1. For the allure of color tv. 2. For Kevin getting Winnie the snow globe instead of perfume. 3. For Paul being a good friend while he was dying of sinus issues at the perfume counter while Kevin figured out which perfume Winnie wore. 4. For Jack finally coming out of his sour mood when the family gets rained on during the Christmas caroling and Jack bursts out laughing and the family dries off in the kitchen drinking hot cocoa finally coming together as a family. 5. Kevin opening Winnie’s gift finding a four leaf clover. Time for my Wonderling Words of Wisdom: It’s Christmas time, it’s not the amount you spend on a person, it’s the love and thought you put behind the gift you give. We don’t always have to have the latest and greatest piece of technology as soon as it comes off the assembly line or the day it’s released. Jack waited two years to get the family a color tv and I’m sure the price came down at least a few hundred dollars by then. Here’s my quote of the episode: Narrator: I don't even remember what I got for Christmas that year. But Dad gave Mom a bracelet that knocked her socks off. Oh, yeah... and he did get us that color-TV... two years later. For me, that year Christmas stopped being about tinsel and wrapping paper, and started being about memory. At first I was disappointed. Until I learned that memory is a way of holding on to the things you love, the things you are, the things you wish to never lose. And I learned from Winnie, that in a world that changes too fast, the best we can do is wish each other Merry Christmas. [Kevin opens Winnie's present, which is a four-leaf clover] And good luck. Hey Wonderlings, Grab your Kleenex, hankies, TeePee, your shirt sleeve, what have you, because today we say goodbye to an amazing teacher, Mr. Collins in today’s episode of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. Hi I’m Angela Bowen your host of Looking Back on My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. As I said above this episode S3E20 Goodbye which aired on April 24, 1990 is a tearjerker. In this episode Kevin's grades in Mr Collin's Math class are not that good. After talking to Kevin, Mr Collins suggests that he could give him extra lessons to help him on the upcoming test. Kevin seems to be getting better, until one day when Mr. Collins fails to show up. Time for my Flower Power Episode Rating: I’m giving this episode 5 out of 5 Flower Power Petals. 1. For Mr. Collins helping Kevin get prepared for his midterm exam. 2. For Jack encouraging Kevin in his school work. 3. For Mr. Collins giving Kevin a chance to make his test up even after he had passed away. He knew Kevin was angry and wanted him to have a second chance to prove himself and ace that exam. 4. For Mr. Diperna taking Kevin aside and personally telling him Collins had passed. I think he must of seen the sincerity in Kevin’s eyes otherwise he would have just slammed the faculty lounge door in Kevin’s face. 5. For Kevin realizing he didn’t need his teacher’s help any longer because he knew the answers and For Mr. Collins last appearance as a ghost as Kevin turns to him and tells him Good Job Mr. Collins”. Also when Kevin had dropped off his test the first time and Mr. Collins called him Kevin. That broke my heart because he really tried to reach him there but Kevin was too angry to bother to turn around. My Wonderling Words of Wisdom: I’m sure there are some of us out there who at one point in their life has had a teacher or a mentor that has made an impact on their life. I know of a few that I had when I was younger in elementary school and high school. They were teachers who took the time to listen when I had a problem or encouraged me to do better at school. Looking back on this now as I’m in my mid 30’s I wish I could have that kind of impact on someone’s life. I do these podcasts for fun but hope that maybe I’m making someone feel better or something. My Wonder Years Quote Of the Episode: Narrator: Teachers never die. They live in your memory forever. They were there when you arrived; they were there when you left. Like fixtures. Once in a while they taught you something. But not that often. And, you never really knew them, any more than they knew you. Still, for awhile, you believed in them. And, if you were lucky, maybe there was one who believed in you. Join me this weekend for S3E21: Cocoa and Sympathy which aired on May 1, 1990. In this episode When Paul is voted "Brainiest" on this years Lisa Berlini Poll, he goes through some self esteem problems. That is until Kevin's mom tries to help Paul's confidence and in return Paul develops a crush on Kevin's mom. Have a great day and I’ll be back for another episode this weekend.

Hey there Wonderlings, I hope you’re having a weekend! I’m Angela Bowen the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. Today I’ll be reviewing S3E13: She, My Friend and I which aired on February 6, 1990. In this episode Paul and his girlfriend Carla have a falling out. Wanting to make his friend feel better, Kevin offers to set Paul up with Winnie. At first Kevin is happy about the idea, but after awhile, he begins to wonder if he's made a mistake. Time for my Flower Power Episode Rating I’m giving this episode 3 out of 5 Flower Power Petals 1. For Kevin cheering up Paul by having Winnie go out on what I believe is a pity date with Paul. 2. I loved the boys scrapping it up during wrestling. It was fun to watch them get their aggressions out since they clearly couldn’t talk it out. 3. Kevin going up to Winnie at the end of the episode and confessing his awareness of her interest in him. I knocked two flower power petals off this episode. 1. Poor Paul got dumped twice in the span of a school week once by Carla and then Winnie. Although maybe Winnie needed to go out with Paul to affirm her true feelings for Kevin. 2. Two out of the five Arnold family members were not seen in this episode Norma and Karen, Jack and Wayne were also only in one scene in the whole episode. My Wonderling Words Of Wisdom: Please don’t do what Kevin did and set your friend up on a pity date with another friend. In fact don’t do what Kevin did at all in this episode if your friend gets dumped don’t suggest they date someone else to move on and make their ex jealous. Kevin was already on Paul to find someone new hours after Carla dumped him. Let him heal and lick his wounds first, Kev. Here’s my quote of the episode: Narrator: I'd never felt so lost in my life. I tried to make sense of what had happened. I wanted to believe Paul had lied to me. Winnie, too. But somehow, I knew better. I'd been lying to myself. The funny thing is, now that I was sure about my feelings for Winnie... There they were: my best friend and my best girl. I'd brought them together. And now I had no right to interfere. Join me tomorrow when I review S3E15: The Tree House which aired on February 20, 1990. In this episode Kevin and his Dad decide to build a tree house in the backyard. However, their father/son bonding is soon derailed when their work gives them a birds-eye view of an attractive female neighbor. Hey there Wonderlings, Hope you’re having a good Monday. Let’s get into some furry cuteness this episode with the introduction of the newest Arnold family member Buster in S3E12: The Powers That Be which aired on January 23, 1990. In this episode Grandpa Arnold visits the family and gives Kevin a puppy as a gift, but both Kevin and the pup get caught up in the middle of tensions between Jack Arnold and his father. Time for my Flower Power Episode Rating: I’m giving it 5 out of 5 Flower Power Petals: 1. For the introduction of Buster. 2. For the introduction of Holly Jolly Grandpa even though he stepped on Jack’s toes a lot which ultimately lead to an uncomfortable shouting match at the table causing the rest of the family to vacate. 3. For Kevin learning how hard it is to raise a puppy. 4. Kevin giving up the puppy in hopes of mending the rift between his father and grandfather. 5. For Jack finally accepting the puppy and telling Kevin. “I think we need a dog”. My Quote of the Show: Narrator: And for some reason, maybe the way he said it, I began to understand. He wasn't giving me an order. My dad, was asking me for help. That morning, as I stood with the man who was my father... The son of my grandfather, the man who would one day be the grandfather of my sons...I realized something. That not all gifts are simple. That some battles are fought out of love. My Wonderling Words of Wisdom: Sure we only all love puppies, the cuteness, the softness, that puppy breath, but we also know how much work it is to raise them financially along with the mental and physical exhaustion of training them and housebreaking them. Now I don’t know this personally because as an adult I’ve never raised a puppy before but hope to one day. That all being said please take this all in to consideration never gift a pet especially a dog unless you know the person in question you’re giving it to is ready to financially accept the responsibility and are ready to have one in their life. Hey there Wonderlings, How’s it going? Let’s jump right into the first of these two episodes S3E5: On The Spot which aired on November 7, 1989 in this episode Kevin joins the school play just to get out of Gym class, while Winnie and Paul seem to take it very seriously. Winnie has problems with her performance, and Kevin unexpectedly helps her during the show. I’m giving it 5 out of 5 Flower Power Petals. 1. For Norma supporting the arts and suggesting the family goes to the play. The arts are important in school. 2. For Winnie giving an amazing performance and it’s so amazing it made her father move back home 3. For Kevin although he was not being the greatest friend supporting Winnie and Paul in joining the play, he came around in the end when Winnie needed him the most. 4. For Mr. Webber the dramatic arts teacher for him not being a tyrant and helping the kids to understand their roles better and not screaming at them. He didn’t make anyone cry or run out of the room. His guidance helped the kids put on a great performance. I took off one Flower Power Petal for Paul being the demanding tyrant after Kevin gave up his cushy job as spotlight operator and Paul lording over him shouting demands. Wonderling Words of Wisdom: Encourage your friends when they try out for something new, don’t suggest they quit when it gets too hard and they want to give up. Tell them to push through it and that they’re doing a great job. S3E6: Odd Man Out that aired on November 14, 1989. In this episode When Kevin and Paul have a disagreement, they decide to find new best friends. Kevin starts hanging around with Doug Porter while Paul befriends Brady Ryland. Time for my Flower Power Episode Rating: I’m giving it 4 out of 5 Flower Power Petals. 1. For Kevin and Paul being the best of friends hanging out in a tent playing Mad Libs and Truth or Dare then we see the friendship unravel as Kevin picks apart Paul during an Adams Family episode and then does the unthinkable when a baseball card trade doesn’t go according to Kevin’s liking. 2. Kevin and Paul finding other friends to make each other jealous as was my understanding or at least in Kevin’s case basically using poor Doug. 3. Winnie being the go between for the two friends trying to patch things up. The Hermione to Harry and Ron. 4. Kevin realizing the errors of his ways and finding himself being the odd man out, but patching things up with Paul and seeing Doug better off with a true best friend like Brady. I knocked off one flower power petal because Kevin was a major ass this whole episode at least until the end. Wonderling Words of Wisdom: Look we all know in all friendships there are going to be ups and downs. That’s just life. But there are lines we never cross, words we never say because sometimes we can’t always take it back. Things get in the way and people sometimes change as they get older are maybe you don’t see eye to eye like you used to. If you feel the friendship going stale, take time apart, you don’t have to do everything together, make other friends too. The friendship will still be there. Sometime you just have to make adjustments, sacrifices and compromise like all good relationships, it takes work. Join me October 29 when I review S3E7 The Family Car In this episode The Arnold Family's car seems to be on it's last legs, but Dad just can't bring himself around to buy a new car for the family. In S310: Rock n’ Roll New student Larry Beeman turns Kevin on to the wonders of rock and roll. Pretty soon, Kevin purchases his own guitar and is rocking with Larry and his band. Hey there Wonderlings, Happy Back to School Day, I know, I know, booo! But I thought we’d kick off the new school year with a Back to School Wonder Years Special with three episodes Season 3 Episode 2 Math Class, Season 4 Episode 1 Ninth Grade Man, and Season 5 Episode 2 Day One. In these three episodes we see Kevin facing a new school year and the trials that come with it starting a new grade, new challenging teachers, new bullies, new friends and new girls. Let’s kick this special off with the first of the three episodes S3E2: Math Class which aired on October 10, 1989. Time for my Flower Power Episode Rating: I’m giving it 3 out of 5 Flower Power Petals 1. Kevin starting a new school year and we get two see some new teachers. 2. Kevin actually struggling at something and making him seem relatable to young viewers who also may struggle in school. 3. For Jack encouraging Kevin throughout the episode and then helping Kevin during the close out scene. I knocked two flower power petals off because of Kevin hassling Paul about his high Math grade and also because he crossed the line with his friendship with Paul by almost cheating off his paper. Paul look of hurt and betrayal that his friend would resort to that is sad especially after he offered to study with Kevin and Kevin turned him down. My Wonderling Words of Wisdom for this episode: Just because you need a tutor or ask for extra help in a class doesn’t make you stupid or less of a person it just means you’re not giving up and you’re willing to do whatever it takes to improve and better yourself. Alright let’s move on to S4E2: Ninth Grade Man which aired on September 26, 1990. Time for my Flower Power Episode Rating: I’m giving this episode 2 out of 5 Flower Power Petals: 1. For Kevin being a good comforting boyfriend to Winnie calming her fears of a new school. 2. For Kevin being a good comforting friend to Paul. I knocked off 3 flower power petals for Becky Slater’s vendetta against Kevin and men in general adding to the misery of his first day ex. Pouring milk on his lunch and slugging him in the stomach. The introduction to Madeline the harpie who I feel breaks up Kevin and Winnie or at least contributes to the downfall of their relationship. The damn P.E. teacher for just laughing and shaking her head at Kevin when Becky slugs him in the stomach. What the hell!! My Wonderling Words of Wisdom: Don’t worry if your first day of school is a flop you still have 9 months to make it better or at least maybe have a better day. Let’s move on to our last Back to School episode S5E2: Day One which aired on October 9, 1991. Time for my Flower Power Episode Rating: I’m giving it 3 out of 5 Flower Power Petals: 1. For Stuart Carpazian. He’s awesome. 2. Paul’s cut off sleeved sweatshirt and no glasses.Love that. 3. Kevin and the classe’s revolt against Botner. I knocked two off because of Botner and because of Kevin whining of how high school wasn’t what junior high used to be. Wait a minute didn’t he complain about 9th grade too. My Wonderling Words of Wsidom: High School supposedly being the best year of some people’s lives but not all. My high school years sucked big time and I would never want to go back especially with the way schools are today. Take each day as it comes and make the best of it and know your best days are yet to come. All right Wonderlings this is the last podcast episode for now. See you in October!

It’s Friday Wonderlings time to celebrate!!, I’m your host Angela Bowen and you’re listening to Looking Back On My Wonder Years A Wonder Years Podcast. Today I’ll be reviewing S2E14 Brightwing which aired on April 18, 1989. In this episode we get to see the brother sister bond between Kevin and Karen as she ropes him in to be her messenger boy having him dropping notes off at the high school for her and Kevin gets to discover his free spirit at “the hill” while hanging out with Karen and her hippie free loving friends. That’s the end of the episode. Time for my Flower power episode rating: I’m giving it 3 out of 5 flower power petals 1. For the flashback of Kevin and Karen when they were younger showing us they’re strong bond compared to present day. 2. For Kevin and Karen bonding at the hill 3. For the sweet scene between Karen and her parents and the look shared between Karen and Kevin at the end. I knocked off two flower power petals for one the whole going back to the school to drop off notes I mean we saw it three times, that really drapped the episode down. While I enjoyed the message of the bonds of siblinghood, this episode kind of fell flat for me especially because we’ll get it again in Season 3 Episode 22 Daddy’s Little Girl when Karen prepares to graduate and turn 18. We get it she’s rebellious and has a difficult relationship with Jack, although this episode was more Kevin and Karen focused. My Wonderling Words of Wisdom: What I got from this episode this episode focused primarily on the bond of siblings and how even though they had grown apart over the years they were still there for each other. Even though my sister and I didn’t have the best relationship growing up and aren’t really that close now I know she will always be there for me. One memory I have is when our mother passed away from Lupus 15 years ago. I was at the visitation and when I walked in and saw my mother lying there in her coffin, I broke down and my sister wrapped me in her arms and held me as we both cried. I felt so close to her then united in sisterhood and grief together. Here’s my quote of the episode: I didn't sleep. I laid there... thinking about what had happened to Karen... to me... to all of us. About how big the world is, and how full of strangers. And how I might never see my sister again. In nineteen-sixty nine, people tried so hard to find themselves. Sometimes they got lost. Sometimes they found their way home again. I want to give a sincere thank to all you listeners out there whether you listen to this podcast on Itunes or Soundcloud or any other listening platforms that you may use to hear this podcast. In this episode The gym class is engaging in square-dancing, and Kevin is paired up with Margaret Farquhar, the strangest girl in 7th grade. While Margaret enjoys spending time with Kevin, her presence makes Kevin wary of his junior-high image. All right Wonderlings, have a great weekend and we’ll meet again same place, same time next Friday!!

So take me along wherever you go or whatever you’re doing. Season 2 Episode 5 Between Me and You and Kirk and Paul and Carla and Becky which aired on January 18, 1989. This episode the kids at RFK Junior High mainly Kevin and Kirk are trying to solve the mystery of who Winnie Cooper like likes or just likes. Becky Slater is back again as Kevin’s girlfriend (surprising because I thought they broke up in the last episode) and both she and Kevin face off in a battle of the sexes when dealing with matters of the heart when she finds out he’s just stringing her along as he continues to debate his feelings for Winnie. Time for my flower power petal rating: I’m giving it 3 out of 5 flower power petals: 1. For The term like you or like like you 2. The use of the term bo thrown around Kevbo, Paulbo, Ericbo 3. Winnie’s joke at the end I knocked off two flower power petals 1. For Kevin stringing Becky along then breaks up with her. 2. For Kevin demanding to know who Winnie like like’s and mocking her “I don’t know” answer. The best song goes to “I am an island” by simon and Garfunkel Far out threads award goes to Kirk mcCray’s blue, purple, and white shirt. Who was the worst this episode Kevin for stringing becky along, and shaming practically slut shaming Winnie, his outburst in the cafeteria. What I got from the episode: If you like someone else don’t go out with someone else while you’re deciding about the other person. You make yourself look bad and hurt innocence people. I want to give a sincere thank to all you listeners out there whether you listen to this podcast on Itunes or Soundcloud or any other listening platforms that you may use to hear this podcast. Aside from referring to entrepreneurs as “superheroes,” author, speaker and top entrepreneur Kevin Johnson and I have a lot in common. For one, we both love coding and programming. Yep. I’m a closet geek. The difference is that Kevin entered his entrepreneurial experience as a programmer during the DOT COM boom days, creating websites that rock. Programming was just a hobby to me growing up that serves me today, because I look at building businesses in logical steps. For Kevin, what began with a random phone call from a company that wanted to pay him to advertise on one of his sites put him on a path he’s still on today. Becoming a successful entrepreneur wasn’t always easy, says Kevin, but he learned to put fear aside and move forward anyway. He plays a game to help him minimize his fears. Obviously the jitters haven’t stopped him, because he’s been on CNN, Good Morning America, CBS and Oprah Radio, and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Fast Company and other publications. Kevin shares his tips and tactics, and talks about the importance of either embracing marketing skills or hiring those who have the right skills. A lot of entrepreneurs are born, Kevin says, and others are made, but a lot of times we have innate abilities upon which we can build a business. Listen to this fun and enlightening Cash Flow Diary podcast episode about how to raise entrepreneurial kids, how to bring the entrepreneur within to life and a whole lot more!
