When is a concert film not a concert film? It's an existential question that's particularly fitting for this episode, as we focus on a movie that is literally about death. And also new-wave-slash-electronic-music legends Depeche Mode. The unfortunate intersection between those two subjects is the death of the band's keyboardist, Andy Fletcher, in 2022 and subsequent release of 2023 album Memento Mori. During that difficult time, remaining members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore went on tour to support the record and invited Mexican director to Fernando Frias capture their performances in Mexico City in September of 2023.Combining the footage with "interpretive interstitials and archival material," Frias delved into his culture's relationship with death and came away with Depeche Mode: M. On this episode, Kpolly leads our own delving with a specialized crew representing the two major sides of the movie: On the music front, we called in 88Nine program director, DJ-about-town and big Depeche Mode fan Kenny Perez. To reinforce our cinematic cred, we got 88Nine on-air personality and multidisciplinary artist (with an emphasis on film) Paula Lovo. You'll hear what all three of them had to say about the documentary, how well it connected to the culture and whether it'll hit with people not quite as familiar with the band (like Paula). Plus, there's a quick detour into favorite concert films, first movies and — perhaps in response to all the death talk — laugh-out-loud comedies.#####Cinebuds is sponsored by Joe Wilde Garage Door Company.

Have you ever felt guilty for taking a break from work? Do you find it challenging to balance your creative pursuits with your professional responsibilities? If so, you're not alone. Many therapists struggle with feelings of guilt or abandon if they take time away from their practice and worry that clients will need them while they're gone or not come back to therapy once the vacation has ended. Edgar Fabián Frías, LMFT, and graduate of the Money Skills for Therapists course, brings their current challenge of allowing themselves permission to rest, trust the systems, and redefine what sustainability looks like in their work and life to the show. Edgar has built financial buffers and created sustainability in their practice, but not yet allowed themselves a real break. Balancing Rest and Business Growth If you are someone who finds it hard to take time off, and you know you need a break but you keep pushing that vacation into the future, here are a few questions Edgar and I work through: What if I lose connections with my clients during my time off? Will I have to start over again after taking a vacation? Will my clients seek support elsewhere if I'm not available for a month? What if my absence affects the progress and goals of my clients? What if taking time off leads to missed opportunities or setbacks in my practice? How can I take time for myself but also serve my clients well? Conquering the Fears Around Taking Time Off (00:00:10) Balancing Creativity with Professional Responsibilities (00:09:33) Therapists' Emphasis on Personal Growth Practices (00:14:06) Creative Breaks: Nurturing Therapist's Business Growth (00:16:28) The Transformative Power of Rest and Exploration (00:17:27) Creative Time Management for Productivity and Balance (00:22:35) Maintaining Financial Security During Extended Absences Elevating Your Therapy Services from a Place of Rest Overcoming the fear of taking time off is a journey that requires self-awareness, resilience, and a willingness to prioritize your well-being. As a therapist, it's essential to find a balance between work responsibilities and creative pursuits, while also ensuring financial stability and taking breaks to recharge. One practical tip is to create a schedule that allows for dedicated time for both work and creative activities. Set boundaries and stick to them, ensuring that you have time for self-care and relaxation. Remember, you deserve time off to rest, relax, and rejuvenate. Taking breaks can actually boost your creativity and productivity in the long run. (00:23:34) "And I honestly as like, you know someone who was so tainted by money and felt so out of control with it. It's been so amazing to be on the other side of it and be like, oh, my gosh, I'm comfortable with money. And I also feel like I have this ability to dream." - Edgar Fabián Frías (00:28:13) "When we never take time away, when we don't show them that we're living expansive lives, they know that on some level, you know, that we are someone who works all the time and isn't actually out exploring and enjoying the world, as we are often supporting our clients to be able to do so." - Linzy Bonham Interested in working with Linzy?

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Fratello Cigars certainly had a busy 2025 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show. Each year I try to come up with a theme for a booth, but when it comes to Fratello owner and founder Omar de Frias, there is one word that comes to mind - "excitement". Omar brings an energy and genuine excitement to the projects he is developing. Like each year, Fratello's booth is quite busy in 2025, but our team managed to get to Omar on day one as opposed to trying to catch him before the Trade Show closes on the final day. With over a decade in the cigar business, Fratello Cigars has built up a nice portfolio of core and limited edition offerings. 2025 saw several new additions introduced at PCA 2025. In this episode, Dr. Steve Edelman and Dr. Jeremy Pettus dive into a little-known but critical complication of diabetes—fatty liver disease. They are joined by Dr. Juan Pablo Frias, an endocrinologist and metabolic disease expert, to explore why people with diabetes are at significantly higher risk of developing fatty liver and what can be done to prevent, detect, and treat it before it leads to serious complications. They discuss the direct connection between insulin resistance, obesity, and liver health, the silent progression of fatty liver disease, and why liver health should be a key part of diabetes management. The episode also highlights how diabetes medications like GLP-1 receptor agonists (Ozempic, Mounjaro) and SGLT2 inhibitors may help protect the liver in addition to their benefits for blood sugar, heart, and kidney health.Key Topics:Why fatty liver disease is a major but often overlooked complication of diabetes and why doctors are just starting to take it seriously. How insulin resistance drives fat accumulation in the liver and why people with type 2 diabetes are at much higher risk. The silent progression of fatty liver disease, why most people don't have symptoms until it's too late. How fatty liver impacts blood sugar control, and why treating your liver could actually improve your diabetes management. Why people with diabetes should ask their doctors about liver screening, and how simple lab tests like FIB-4 can detect early signs of trouble. The growing connection between diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and fatty liver, and why experts now see them as part of the same metabolic syndrome. Can diabetes medications also treat fatty liver? The exciting potential of GLP-1s, SGLT2 inhibitors, and new liver-specific treatments like Rezdiffra. What lifestyle changes really make a difference? On this episode of Rising Tide the Ocean Podcast, David & Vicki speak with Florida-based oceanographer and marine ecologist Dr. Sara Frias-Torres about her life and work, the tragic “death by a thousand cuts” of the Florida Keys coral reef tract, and the more hopeful recovery of the “Lord of the Rocks” the Goliath Grouper. Despite poaching and pollution, this massive, curious fish is making an impressive comeback from near extinction. It's essential for the ecosystem and inspiring for divers. Yet, it could be lost again if the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission doesn't listen to scientists like Dr. Frias-Torres, who say their protection must be continued. Dive in to learn more.
