I love hosting guest mixes here on LLM and especially love it when they come at the right time. I have been super busy so this curated set comes at the perfect time. This mix comes to us from Portland-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Eli Goldberg, aka Ann Annie. He has a new album coming out in June and a new single, Cottonwood, out now. You can listen to “Cottonwood” on all digital retailers (((HERE))) “Annie takes a transcendental approach to ambient country, coaching modular minimalism into a character that interacts with its surroundings.” - Bandcamp Daily Here is what Eli says about this mix: " 'Quiet Days' is a collection of some of my favorite artists and songs from the last year. Included are a few unreleased tracks from my upcoming album “The Wind”. I imagine listening to the mix while sitting at the coast on a foggy day." Thanks to Eli for putting together this excellent mix. Here's where you can find Ann Annie on the web: Website | Instagram | Facebook | YouTube Cheers! It's the thick of the summer, which means your Transmissions correspondents are spending as much time in cool dark spaces as possible. One record that particularly suits the mood in our summer bunker hideaway is Gia Margaret's Romantic Piano. Though Margaret's 2018 debut, There's Always Glimmer, was the striking work of a singer/songwriter, when medical issues put a strain on her voice, she turned to instrumental music, first with her ambient leaning self-titled 2020 album, and now Romantic Piano, a collection of moving piano compositions, mostly instrumental, that feels at once meditative and comforting. It's the kind of music that carves out more space for the listener—and it turns out, it's the kind of music that did something similar for its creator. In our talk, we discuss the intuitive roots of Gia's music, working with previous Transmissions guest David Bazan of Pedro the Lion, and much more. It's a thoughtful, spacey conversation for you as we weather the way out heat of summers in a changing world Transmissions is part of the Talkhouse Podcast network, check out Talkhouse for more great reading and listening. Next week on the show, archivist Andy Zax shares the story of an unheard Mort Garson soundtrack and ponders alternate musical histories.
In “Lies and Distortion,” the opening essay of his book Unstrung: Rants And Stories Of a Noise Guitarist, Marc Ribot writes: “We seem to love broken voices in general: vocal cords eroded by whiskey and screaming, the junked-out weakness of certain horn players, distortion which signifies surpassing the capabilities of a tube or a speaker—voices that damage, but (at least in performance) don't actually die…Was this always true? I don't know.” In a way, that speaks to Ribot's own playing, on his own and with many luminary collaborators. Though he can certainly play delicately, a frayed, beyond-the-limit quality informs Ribot's sensibility. Since 2008, he's released records with Ceramic Dog—a band featuring Ribott on vocals and guitar, previous Transmissions guest Shazhad Ismaily on bass and vocals, and Ches Smith on drums and vocals. On July 14th, the band releases another scalded and electrifying record with Connection. Ribot is our guest this week on the show, and we're pleased to present this rollicking, and at times charmingly contentious talk this on Transmissions. From his complicated relationship with his former Lounge Lizards collaborator John Lurie, to his views on how labor and capitalism inform his relationship with music, his history as a collaborator, Hal Willner's Night Music, his recent embrace of the Gibson SG, and much more, this is a charged chat with a jazz-punk creative icon. Transmissions is part of the Talkhouse Podcast network, check out Talkhouse for more great reading and listening. Next week on the show, Gia Margaret on her Romantic Piano.

sent $$$ this week to Save the Omni Commons.omnicommons.org / gf.me/u/ykrbkt“Four years ago, the collectives that make up the Omni Commons obtained a loan to purchase the building at 4799 Shattuck Avenue in North Oakland. Since then, we have offered event space to the wider community and workspace to collectives on a sliding-scale basis. The Shelter-in-Place order issued in mid-March in response to the pandemic, as well as subsequent restrictions, have prohibited the gatherings that rent our event space and provide half of the income to make our monthly loan payments and keep the Omni Commons open.We have been able to keep the building open for the essential services that some of our collectives provide to the community. Additionally, we collaborated in forming the North Oakland Mutual Aid Drive together with other community organizations. The Omni has become a local distribution site for the curbside and low-income communities, disproportionately people of color, in North Oakland. We’re using our ballroom and entrance hall to gather canned food, water, masks, hand sanitizer and other items, and then distribute these items to those who need them. While the Omni Commons continues to keep the building open for our collectives to offer essential services, we now face a big challenge. In the midst of pandemic restrictions limiting our income, we must refinance the original five-year loan on the building by May 1, 2021. We’re working hard to save enough money to show lenders that we are able to make loan payments until restrictions are lifted and it’s safe to open up event rentals again. So, we’re asking you, our friends and supporters, to make a generous contribution to our GoFundMe campaign to Save the Omni Commons. If you can make a contribution to help us through this crisis, we will thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”DOWNLOAD RECORDINGsubscribe to the podcast here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/5432fun(intro by omar)TV Ugly “Trash Party Island” UCLA Yankee ColaCharlyne Yi “The Saddest Clarinet in the World” Woman of the SeaHot Missoury “Who cooks for you?” Kitchen Folktweedle “kill bros” dear diaryheaPink Grapefruit “Give Me Home” Alien InvasionCellular Chaos “Gaslight” Dirty GirlLily McKown “Leftover Dimes” Count The Death Rate Over The Birth EPMoonfich “Helium Balloon” Moon The FichPac and Seep “One” Cap and PieceThe Pink Noise “Crystal Ball, Crystal Skull” BirdlandGia Margaret “Birthday (demo)” BeforeBeatles HC “Q&A” Beatles HCleor miller “lazy” GIRL (split w/ Francie Cool)Posse “Dream Sequence” Horse BlanketScammers “Love Me Back” love is a rough stone cutStay Cool Forever “hOodie MeLo” Current Songs4 The SeancePower Snuggle “Jack” Cop A FeelingScary Balance “Pretty Things” what’s up, day?dad thighs “sometimes underwater” easy listening

You'll Get Eaten, Too”.
This week, Features Co-Director Jessi D spoke with Izzy Olive, the songwriter and multi-instrumentalist behind Half Gringa. They discuss her collaboration and friendship with fellow Chicago artist Gia Margaret, the stylistic choices on her new album reflecting the lack of resolution in grief, the mourning process, and growth in chaos. After Eight Show - Music That You Just Don't Hear Anywhere Else!
We had an ocean of #NewMusic in our playlist! An eclectic mix of original, intelligent, melodic, grown-up songs - #electronic, #rnb, #jazz, #blues and #acoustic. And mostly from artists who you have not heard of - yet! Think 'next series of Jools' - that's the kind of artists that we play. Amongst our selections, there was #NewMusic from Valentina, Seth Walker, Angelica Garcia, Sans Soucis, The Assist, Vita and the Woolf, HANA, Madeleine Mayi, Gia Margaret, Timothy, Benny Braun, BlackMantis, From Apes To Angels, MALMØ, Ninebarrow, Sebastien Tellier, Kidnap + Leo Stannard + Submotion Orchestra and Chidi Sings. Our Luvva Cover feature, this week, was a cover version of a song by Gotye which appears on a new Songs for Australia charity compilation album put together by Julia Stone and designed to raise funds to help heal the damage wrought by the bush fires. In particular, it hopes to assist in rebuilding some of the damage to the culture of the First Nations there. This amazing cover version is by Joan As Police Woman. https://songsforaustralia.com/ New Music That You Just Don't Hear Anywhere Else! www.theafter8show.com Playlist: RestingHeartRate – Valentina Inside – Seth Walker Agua De Rosa – Angelica Garcia Visible – Sans Soucis Life – The Assist Operator – Vita and the Woolf Cowgirl Bebop – HANA love me – Madeleine Mayi Babies – Gia Margaret Home – Timothy Hearts A Mess – Gotye Hearts A Mess – Joan As Policewoman (Luvva Cover feature) Gentle Ride Through Kuiper Belt (Album Mix) – Benny Braun PianoVerb – Blackmantis Works Out – From Apes To Angels Farewell Roaring Ocean – The Inevitable End, Pt.
