What makes a truly extraordinary pizza? It's a question that Pittsburgh pizza masters Patrick Elston of Gus Franco's and Pete Tolman of Ironborn Pizza have spent years perfecting—crafting distinct styles that have earned them regional championships and devoted followings.(00:52) Patrick's journey began with a mobile wood-fired pizza trailer in 2018, eventually establishing Gus Franco's brick-and-mortar location in Lower Burrell. His "American baker style" pizza represents a careful evolution from Neapolitan traditions, with meticulous attention to dough fermentation and bread-making techniques. The result? A perfectly crispy yet light crust that recently earned him recognition as the Northeast Region champion for traditional pizza at the International Pizza Expo.(22:59) Meanwhile, Pete Tolman transformed a chance encounter with Detroit-style pizza during a Colorado ski trip into Ironborn Pizza, now thriving with locations in Millvale and the Strip District since 2017. His distinctive inch-plus-high crust with a lacy cheddar cheese edge has gathered its own accolades, including multiple Northeast regional championships. Beyond pizza, Ironborn's Strip District location showcases handmade pasta, fresh meatballs, and a full bar experience. What truly sets these pizza makers apart is their dedication to craft. Patrick describes the intense relationship with his wood-fired oven—moving pizzas through five different "spots" during busy service, constantly managing heat, and treating each pie as an artistic creation. Pete reveals the science behind his dough, which rises higher than traditional Detroit-style, creating Ironborn's signature airy texture. Both prioritize quality ingredients, including non-bromated flours and proper fermentation, challenging the notion that pizza is merely "junk food."(32:27) Their friendship exemplifies Pittsburgh's collaborative food scene—they attend pizza competitions together, celebrate each other's successes, and even share monthly dinners with their families. Their approach to business growth remains deliberately measured, with Patrick slowly introducing Sicilian pizzas and Pete focusing on strengthening operations at his existing locations.Whether you're craving Patrick's "Hot Dad" pizza with sopressata and hot honey or Pete's white pie with garlic cream and roasted tomatoes, these pizza masters prove that Pittsburgh's pizza scene has evolved into something truly special. Visit them soon to taste what championship-level dedication to pizza craft really means.Support the showLiked the episode? We'd love a coffee!

Hello and welcome to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire! In this episode, we kick off the Ironborn storyline in A Feast for Crows with Aeron "Damphair" Greyjoy, the least likeable youth pastor in history, as he tries to get everyone together against the devil...who just happens to be his brother. Next time: we're taking next week off, but the week after that, we jump down the Dorne for "The Captain of Guards," in which the Sand Snakes kick off the Dornish storyline by asking their uncle Prince Doran to let them kill pretty much everyone in their path. On this episode of Unsupervised Learning Razib talks to David Lightbringer, a YouTube content creator who focuses on the world of The Game of Thrones and the mythologies of ancient peoples. Though Lightbringer writes essays, and distributes his thoughts via podcast (and you can also read his views in short-form on numerous topics via his tweets on X), his primary platform is his YouTube channel. Lightbringer's videos, range across topics as diverse as “Harappans, Aryans, and the Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex: Indian Origins” to “The Grey King: Secret PreHistory of the Ironborn.” Two years ago, journalist and entrepreneur Antonio García Martínez declared that we were entering a new “age of orality.” By this, he meant that the primacy of text was declining in our culture, as younger generations preferentially consumed audio content over magazines. Perhaps Martínez could even have stipulated that this was the age of “audiovisuality.” Anyone producing podcast content knows that the “Zoomer” generation, those born after 1995, prefer not to subscribe to a feed proactively. Instead, they spend their days passively “consuming content” by leaving YouTube in the background at length. Nearly 40% of this generation spends four or more hours a day on social media, and 88% use YouTube. Lightbringer is part of this massive, new world of creators who produce history, literary and cultural commentary content for those who prefer hour-long documentaries or impassioned monologues to short clips of funny cat memes. Razib and Lightbringer discuss his analytic method for producing secondary commentary on George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire. Lightbringer points out that Martin has been explicit and open about his myriad literary influences, so filling in the “backstory” to the history and anthropology of his universe often involves detective work into its cultural roots, which go back to figures as diverse as J. R. R. Tolkien and H. P. Lovecraft, as well as ancient motifs and primal archetypes drawn from the mythologies of varied cultures. The same methodologies we can use to analyze “real” mythology, religion and cultural history, can also be employed for fantastical literary worlds. Razib and Lightbringer also shine the light on the vast world of literature and history on YouTube, which is now the primary mode for many people's autodidact pursuits. Razib argues for the value of text, while Lightbringer asserts that the visual aspect of YouTube documentaries allows for both greater accessibility and more informational richness.

We're almost done with Season 4, and we begin the wrap-up phase, with Season 4, Episode 8, "The Mountain & the Viper." We obviously talk a ton about the titular fight between Prince Oberyn Martell and Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane, with Benioff & Weiss delivering yet again another one of Martin's classis pulling the rug out from under your feet moments, with Prince Oberyn literally winning the fight, only to monologue for too long, giving the Mountain the chance to knock him down and crush his skull like a grape, dooming Tyrion. We also get a nice little preview of the Battle of the Wall next episode with the Wildling attack on Mole's Town; Ramsay & Theon wrap up the Bolton's conquest of the North with Theon convincing the Ironborn at Moat Cailin to lay down their arms and surrender; Littlefinger & Sansa solidify their unspoken pact with Sansa lying to the Lords of the Vale about Lysa's death; and Daenerys finally learns the truth that Jorah was spying on her for Robert Baratheon back in Season 1. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Theon's nightly nightmares often revolve around his lies, deceits, and the atrocities he's committed. His sister Asha shoots him straight about his dire situation in Winterfell. He refuses to heed her advice and puts his last bit of hope on the shoulders of Reek. Simon and Mackelly raise their eyebrows in skepticism. Chapter Review:Theon Greyjoy wakes from another bad dream to learn that his sister Asha has finally arrived in Winterfell. On his way to the Winterfell Great Hall to see her, he's surrounded by bodyguards. Ironborn have been dropping like flies around the castle, since they returned from the mill with the bodies of Bran and Rickon. Theon knows it's Reek who has committed the murders, to keep the secret of what happened at the mill from getting out. However, Theon uses the kennel master Farlen as a scapegoat for the crimes, and beheads him.Asha has brought Theon reinforcements to help hold Winterfell. Unfortunately, she's brought him a mere 10 men. Theon says it's not enough, Ser Rodrik Cassel is riding toward the castle with an army. Asha points out that's something he should've thought about before taking Winterfell. She asks him to give up on the castle and come with her back to Deepwood Motte. He refuses, so she leaves. Theon gives Reek silver to buy men to help hold the castle. He then second-guesses why he didn't do the smart thing and leave with his sister. As dawn breaks over Winterfell, he looks at the heads of the boys on the spikes and thinks of the Miller's sons. They were the perfect stand-ins for the still-missing Stark boys.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Theon Greyjoy - Heir to the Iron Islands. We're past the halfway point of Season 4, which means we're into gangbuster territory. I'd make the argument here that the back half of Season 4 might be the best and most important stretch of this entire show, and we're kicking it off with "The Laws of Gods & Men," or as its better known as, Tyrion's trial. It's another season 4 episode written by Bryan Cogman, as well as another one that features a gigantic King's Landing event for the whole second half, in this case Tyrion's trial, the next even in the awesome King's Landing arc this season. We get a few brief check-ins with Stannis visiting the Iron Bank and Daenerys realizing that ruling Meereen is going to be much harder than she originally thought. We also get possibly the worst sequence in this season with Yara attempting to lead an attack on the Dreadfort to rescue Theon, and not only does he not recognize her, but somehow Ramsay fights off multiple Ironborn with no shirt on? And then, the entire sequence is used to give Ramsay the ammunition he needs to use Theon to...look, it's a really dumb sequence, it doesn't work, and it's better in hindsight not to talk about it. Instead, we have the star of the episode, and arguably his last great performance and monologue on the show, because Peter Dinklage really brings it this episode, channeling all the hurt, the betrayal and the misery his family's put him through the last couple seasons into the monologue to end all monologues as he calls for trial by combat after Shae's devastating betrayal. Pat & I are covering every episode of this show all the way up until the finale, and it's all covered here on #talkinthrones --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talkintvpodcastgmailcom/support
In Episode 119, Bloodrider Jon joins Matt and Scad to talk about everyone's favorite bludgeoning instrument of death, Victarion Greyjoy, in the second of his POV chapters of A Feast for Crows: The Reaver. It's a chapter of three parts including a raging sea battle, roiling self-reflection and introspection, and a celebration feast. But no celebration feast is complete without an overt challenge to authority, at least not when the Ironborn do it, and Euron's plan for the Ironborn's immediate future is given a harsh rebuke by Rodrik The Reader. As usual though, the best part of this episode is diving deeper into the folds of our guest (eww). Jon doesn't disappoint as we talk hockey, cheese fries, and all things nerd. So sit back and enjoy Khalasar. We will be taking a short break for the Holidays but will be back in mid-January with more Meet the Khalasar episodes and, for patrons, furthering our coverage of the I Am Mercury series by Grant Piercy. In part 2 of this interview, the editors ask Brendan Cowell about living in London as a hedonistic Aussie thespian. Where was he when his beloved Cronulla Sharks won the 2016 Premiership? How did he celebrate? And how did his life change after getting a start on Game Of Thrones as the Ironborn sea captain, Harrag. Brendan imparts a lot of wisdom on these simply country folk from Betoota - his strongest words of advice, don't catch COVID-19 while living in a rat-infested underground basement apartment in Notting Hill. We chat to Curtis Napier, who played both an Ironborn and Tully soldier in seasons 6, 7 & 8 of Game of Thrones.
This week, I sit down with the great Ryan Peters to talk all things pasta. I've known Ryan for a while now. When we first met, we were sitting down to record his first episode. All I knew about him was that he was a great chef that had a passion for pasta. His Instagram was riddled with photos of egg yolk piles and precisely cut pasta shapes. When we talked back then, he was getting ready to head the new pasta program at Ironborn Pizza. If you've ever had the pleasure of having some pasta from there, I'm sure you know how good it is. When he was done slinging pasta at work, Ryan was coming home and putting in a whole other shift creating content. Fast forward a year and a half, now Ryan is a god damn TikTok star. Having quickly building a community of over 2 million followers, Ryan decided to step away from his position at Ironborn and focus on being a content creator full time. This is a great episode. It's unreal to watch Ryan become a full blown tiktok star in real time. He even tells a story of how he found out Ren Stevens from 'Even Stevens' was a big fan of his tiktok. How wild is that? He's a hard worker and deserves every bit of success he has. “We should start back” sono le primissime parole de “Le Cronache del Ghiaccio e del Fuoco” di George R.R. Martin e noi abbiamo pensato di fare esattamente così. In this week's episode, Raven tells Jess about her new vibrating gaming chair and the COVID-19 protesters she saw outside her workplace. And, in A Clash of Kings, Raven rejoices when Theon's chapter finally hints at his thoughts on betraying Robb and Winterfell, and Jess points out an interesting similarity between Theon and Sansa. The sisters find themselves disappointed in Arya for the first time, learn a new word, and Raven drools over Jaqen H'ghar's coolness. Also, Jess defines a "woman's courage," Raven accidentally gains some respect for Catelyn, and questions everything. Other topics include gaming headsets and sour beer. Character perspectives in this episode: Theon, Arya, and Catelyn... Thanks for listening! Brotherhood Without Manners - A Game of Thrones reread Podcast
Your favorite full spoiler reread podcast of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, Brotherhood Without Manners is back with the another chapter from Clash of Kings. This time we are reading Bran 6! Bran shares the mind of Summer as the wolf senses the coming betrayal coming over the walls. Theon arrives to claim Winterfell as his own, leaving poor Bran with a difficult decision. We lose some more of the men of Winterfell as the Ironborn show no mercy to those who refuse Theon. We discuss how much we detest Theon in this very grim chapter that hits us straight in the feels. As always we give our chapter inductees and read some listener write ins. Be sure to check out @SerBuckley on the Isle of Faces podcast. This week we appear on his special Sporcle Spectacular episode. Hello and welcome back to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire one chapter a week! In this episode, everything goes exactly according to plan for our new protagonist, Theon “The Ladies Love Me” Greyjoy. This week, we: - Talk about our favorite to least favorite Greyjoys - Emmett analyzes how Theon came into being as a POV character and why his character beats far outshine his actual plot beats. - Analyze Theon in how he constructs his identity around Ironborn lore he doesn't have a personal connection to and how awful this manifests itself in his treatment of the captain's daughter. - Muse on the worldbuilding George puts into the Ironborn culture, and how these sparse, bleak lands speak volumes on GRRM's opinion of them and their culture. - Pour one out for Balon Greyjoy who has a sad, and that sad is going to result in a disastrous war which will give the Ironborn nothing - Is the Captain's Daughter pregnant by Theon? We discuss! Next week, ACOK Daenerys I where we finally check in with the Mother of Dragons and her tiny band of followers wandering the desert. No religious imagery there whatsoever. The History Behind Game of Thrones The North Remembers David Weinczok is back so - "LET'S GEEK OUT ON CASTLES!" David is a Canadian born, castle enthusiast, daily found waist high in nettles, tramping the ground of a Scottish castle. There are approximately 2,000 castles to conquer and David has put (to date) 400 under his own foot. Powered by a passion for history, and a love for the environment David gets to most of these sites via bicycle. David has yet to find a dragon in his journeys. However, the patterns he noticed and the history he uncovered made him literally jump out of his seat watching Game of Thrones. He was watching a fictionalized explainer on the actual events of Scottish history and folklore. https://files.fireside.fm/file/fireside-uploads/images/0/037e01ef-c3bb-4048-9bb2-f57e8e9144e2/tsFiUTn-.jpg (https://nordvpn.com/?utm_medium=affiliate&utm_term&utm_content&utm_campaign=off&utm_source=aff) There was a tourism companion to be written and a map to be drawn! David took on this challenge and the result is the newly released, "The History Behind Game of Thrones The North Remember" and the, "Scotland and the Lands Beyond The Wall Map". Both the book and the map aim to help enthusiasts visit the real life Scotish locations that inspired many parts of Game of Thrones. PART 1: Today's episode will feature two chapters from David's book and the Map. The next episode will feature two more. I editing I noticed that it was really long and wanted to make a clean break for listener ease. David also talks about his "fan boy" moment while observing Game of Thrones actors sharing a quiet and cominal moment that would have been unthinkable in the Game of Thrones series. 13th Century Map of Britain http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/onlineex/mapsviews/mapgb/mattparismaplge.jpg Matthew Paris 13th Century Map The first chapter we feature today will focus on the actual land of Scotland. Key points of geography and castles that serve as strategic defense points for both Scotland and Game of Thrones. So significant are these factors they led to the real life Black Dinner and the fictional Red Wedding! Scotland And The Lands Beyond the Wall Map https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/assets/img/scotland-and-the-lands-beyond-the-wall.jpg Scotland And The Lands Beyond the Wall Map, credit Bob Marshall, historical illustrator. Stirling Castle, photo credit David Weinczok http://castlehunter.scot/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/20160708_191230-e1506282310195.jpg Stirling Castle, photo credit David Weinczok The second chapter will talk about the warrior's themselves. David compares the Lord of the Isles and the Isles men to the Ironborn. In a real battle David says he would pick the Islesmen. He makes some interesting observations. Lastly, we talk about the art or lack there of as seen in these two cultures. David reads a portion of his book that captures these sentiments perfectly. Please see the links below to find David's book and the map. Special Guest: David Weinczok.

The Davos’ Fingers podcast has come to the conclusion of our Feast/Dance re-read in Episode 074: The Blood Before the Pain. Tears of joy and tears of sorrow. But we soldier on! In this episode Sam and Gilly reach Oldtown amidst Ironborn reaving. Kevan deals with a docile Cersei, quarrels on the small council, and a quarrel in his chest. There is unrest in Mereen as Barristan tries to calm the murder in the streets and maintain the peace outside the gates. Lastly, Daenerys stumbles away from her Dragon and vaguely in the direction of Mereen, but finds an old enemy instead. We’d like to thank Game of Owns for their reading order, which we enjoyed thoroughly. Though we have finished it, you can always find it on afeastwithdragons.com. We still maintained our spoiler free path in the main portion of the cast for those worried about Winds of Winter spoilers, but stick around for what may be the final Davos After Dark if you want deeper speculation and spoilers. The Podcast is going on a bit of a break, but we are still here! We will be on twitter, our email is not paused! So send us your thoughts and ideas. We’d love to hear from you at wearedavosfingers@gmail.com, on twitter @davosfingers, on facebook, on our tumblr at davosfingers.com, or on our patreon at patreon.com/davosfingers. We will see you in a couple months when we kick off our coverage of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms! Chapters Covered: Samwell 5 (AFFC), Epilogue (ADWD), The Queen’s Hand (ADWD), Daenerys 10 (ADWD)

Episode 62 has a heavy slant toward the Ironborn and Slaver’s Bay. First we meet the company of the Windblown, a company of sellswords hired to fight with Yunkai that also has our favorite little Dornish Prince. Next we get to crawl into the skins of perhaps the two most opposite Ironborn around, Victarion and Asha as they fight battles with very different outcomes. Tyrion is in Volantis, captured by Jorah Mormont, but given a ray of hope, and lastly Daenerys Targaryen comes to terms with a decision she has REALLY been wanting to avoid and she's doing it all for the betterment of the Meereenese. Check out our combined reading order at davosfingers.com or through its creator at Game of Owns at afeastwithdragons.com. Welcome to the Weirwood Compendium, where we will begin to reveal the secrets of the greenseers through the use of mythical astronomy analysis. Our journey to the heart of the weirwoodnet actually begins with the Ironborn mythology, believe it or not, for the Ironborn folklore is actually shot through with covert references to weirwood. Whether it's the weirwood staff of the greatest Drowned Priest, Galon Whitestaff, or the ribs of Nagga, which are almost certainly petrified weirwood, or the tale of the Grey King carving the first longship from the hard, pale wood of the demon tree Ygg, we find that Ironborn culture once had a much stronger connection to weirwood that it does currently. Not only is this connection concealing a huge secret about greenseers and the Ironborn, it's also where we can begin to suss out the relationship between the moon meteors and the greenseers, and that's really the heart of the Long Night story. The matching text to the podcast can be found on lucifermeanslightbringer.com

*This SobieCast contains content that is only intended for mature audiences. Listener Discretion Advised!* Welcome to Game of Rants: Oops I Made a White Walker! In the 7th SobieCast for Comicnoobs, Caitlin Macatee returns to the pod so Sobie and her can process the deaths of Episode 5 of Game of Thrones. In this therapy session, Sobie and Caitlin talk about how Littlefinger wore the brown pants for his meeting with Sansa, how she is masterminding Jon Snow and the North, and #Tarthbane is in full force (4:15), They also talk about Arya’s endgame for the entire series (17:35) with a Shakespeare tangent in lieu to the Braavosi players theater (20:00-23:10), Caitlin disproves of Ser Jorah’s Friendzone status by saying he was never in the Friendzone (25:35), Varys and Tyrion talking to the Red Priest of Meereen (33:00), how the Kingsmoot was a little anti-climatic for our liking (38:15), and the ramifications of Holding the Door for people, the origin stories for Hodor and the White Walkers (53:10). Other topics discussed in the pod include: Littlefinger jamming out to Drake during his travels AKA Littlefinger’s Views from the Veil, Brienne and Tormund’s shared Bearstory, Theon’s regenerating appendages, Danish Pacey from Dawson’s Creek is now the Iron King, Is there a shed full of dead Ironborn Kings who didn’t survive the drowning?, Sobie confuses the spice Spotted Dick with Salted Dick because its an Ironborn thing, the lyrics to Game of Thrones music adaptations (“Wouldn’t It Be Nice If We Had Dragons” “Oops I Made a White Walker”), and Bran the Drunk Driver. We loved this episode! S6E5 The Door has been been the best episode we have seen this season thus far. Sansa confronts LittleFinger Carcetti, Bran has a bad trip on his vision quest, Tormund gapes at Brienne, We learn how the Ironborn get drowned crowned and Hodor. So much Hodor. This one is a doozy so order a few pizzas, bust a fat dab and get ready for Game of Stoned! The Door Episode 3 is packed with the feels. It's also packed with information and plot development! Also we didn't have to look at stupid Ramsey's face even once! Sansa gets an invite from pervy Littlefinger to meet up at a shack in Moletown, a town of moles. Arya gets a death assignment from Sexy Jesus (I did not coin that), and it looks like it's going to be a personal one. The Ironborn choose their new ruler with a profanity laced debate, and we get to see how terrible the crowning ceremony is. Bran observes how the first OG White Walker was made, and it's... disturbing. And in the last scenes of the episode we witness a super unfair battle, and learn how Hodor became Hodor, while simultaneously losing Hodor. You may shed some man tears. It's a sad one folks but a very good one and we hope you like our crazy ride through this episode. Rate us on iTunes! It's episode 5 and this season just keeps getting better and better. Julian and Dan breakdown this emotionally charged episode, which has proven to be another classic for the series, and one of our favourites to date. "The Door" is everything we know, love, and have come to expect from a Game of Thrones episode; combining political intrigue and genuine human conflict with a world of fantasy, magic, and mystery. Arya is faced with a new and dubious mission, Jon and Sansa plan to retake the North, the birth of the White Walkers is revealed, Jorah is given his final command, Tyrion invites a new ally to Meereen, the Ironborn hold a historic Kingsmoot, and, while testing his new abilities, Bran provokes an ancient enemy.
Julia and Kylie sit down for two hours to gush about "A Feast for Crows" and "A Dance with Dragons," the two more divisive novels in the A Song of Ice and Fire fandom. Which frankly, confuses them, because these books' literary value is off the charts. They break it down, first with overviews of the plot-lines, and then discuss the thematic significance surrounding them. For related episode links, please visit the gotgifsandmusings tumblr page.Episode Breakdown: 0:00 - Intro & gap-scrap explanation; Plot-line Breakdowns: 12:36- Prologues & Epilogue 16:24 - Mel & JonCon 20:11 - Sansa & Bran 24:40 - Barry the Scary & Quentyn & Davos 28:10 - Arya & Sam 32:19 - Dorne & Theon 37:39 - Jaime & Brienne & The Ironborn 41:01 - Dany & Tyrion 48:39 - Cersei & Jon; 55:00 - Theme time! #1, “The carrion crow” 1:05:17 - #2, Identity 1:20:01 - #3, Womanhood/manhood 1:35:45 - #4, Leadership & concessions 1:48:04 - #5 Intersection of personal & political, and futility/failure 1:58:44 - Conclusion
Julia and Kylie push themselves to discuss one aspect of ASOIAF that they are less compelled by: the Ironborn chapter (Theon excluded). Can they find an appreciation? Or literary significance? It's the greatest showdown in history. The Bastard of the Dreadfort shows up to show Theon, the Garbage of the Greyjoys, how being an awful human being is really done. Never has the tearing of down of the irritating Ironborn been so bittersweet, as when two awful elephants fight, it is the innocents of Winterfell who suffer.
AFTERBUZZ TV – The Game of Thrones edition, is a weekly “after show” for fans of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
