It's a 3 stringer in DG and in a style that dates to the 18th cent. The songs are Un Canadien Errant, the wandering Canadian, which was written in 1842 as a lament for rebels exiled from Canada after the failed Lower Canada Rebellion, 1837-8. The 2nd is A La Claire Fontaine, by the clear Spring, which dates back to 1604 and was originally a song of lost love but also become a resistance song after the British takeover following the F&I War. I wanted to learn some French Canadian song for French reenactors at vous and the Battle of PDC Wi. since a unit portraying the one that fought in that siege would come from Canada to participate in the event as it neared the 250th anniversary of the battle. From Ryan Kirk: Mary Scott Hey Jeremy here's a quick run at Oswald's variations on Mary Scott, a tune I learned from your podcast! I [am playing] an Aulos plastic [flute], copy of a 18th century Grenser. Very nice Instrument for the price. Thought about a wood one but humidity control in our old house is not great. From Dave Rowlands: This is 'La Bernardina' by Josquin des Pres (1450-1521). Not known as a composer for bagpipes, but the leading composer of his time. I have chosen this because a) it is a new find for me, b) because if pipers had access to this music and good instruments they would have played it, and c) because we should not be hidebound to 'tradition', just because it does not come from a bagpiping tradition, does not mean we cant play it, and i cite Amazing Grace as just one case. This is played by Three Swayne D pipes, and one Swayne G pipe. I hope you like it and include it. Best wishes, Dave R From Charlie Rutan: Tu Scendi Dalle Stelle is the traditional Italian Christmas carol played by zampognari. Originally called 'Quanno Nascente Ninno', it was written down in 1754 by St Alphonsus Ligouri, with text in the Neapolitan language: and became so popular that it was later translated into Italian and became 'TU SCENDI DALLE STELLE', undergoing several small changes in its melody during that process. The melody probably existed in various forms for several centuries prior to its 1754 transcription, and is still a basis for many improvised PASTORELLES by zampognari today. I'm playing both Ciaramella ( the Italian folk oboe) and Sei Palmi Zampogna on this track. 'Sei palmi' refers to the length of the instrument's longest chanter, measured by the outsretched palm of the pipe maker's hand, much like the 'cubit' of the ancient world. Zampongne have existed in this form since at least the early 1300's; where we have evidence of the instrument being played in frescoes dated to that time. The zampogna is endemic to southern Italy, exists in about 20 different iterations in several sizes, and is a thriving bagpipe tradition to this day. In this sermon, Pastor Anthony Uvenio delves into Isaiah 9:1-7, emphasizing verse 6, which prophesies the birth of a child who will bring light, joy, and peace, and be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Pastor Anthony provides historical context, explaining the division of Israel into northern and southern kingdoms, the apostasy of the northern tribes, and the impending judgment by Assyria. The prophecy offers hope to Judah through God's grace and mercy, foretelling the coming of Jesus, who fulfills these prophecies by bringing salvation and peace. He also shares personal Italian Christmas traditions, drawing parallels between the anticipation of Christmas and the anticipation of the Messiah. The sermon closes with a prayer emphasizing the significance of God's actions and a call to glorify God and make disciples. #IsaiahProphecy #princeofpeace #christmasmessage #adventseason #christianfaith #jesusisthelight #hopeandjoy #reformedtheology #faithandtradition #gospeltruth 00:00:24 - Reading and Reflection on Isaiah 9 04:10 - Division of Israel and Judah's Kings 08:00 - Israel's Rebellion and Assyria's Judgment 11:46 - Isaiah's Prophecy of Hope and Mercy 15:30 - Fulfillment of Isaiah's Prophecy in Jesus 19:13 - Jesus as Light and Messiah 22:53 - Jesus Brings Peace and Fulfillment 26:24 - Birth of Jesus and His Significance 30:06 - Jesus' Kingdom and His Authority 33:36 - Jesus as Wonderful Counselor and Mighty God Podcast: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/reformedrookie/episodes/Isaiah-96-Gloom-to-Glory-e2t4e93 www.ReformedRookie.com Podcast: https://anchor.fm/reformedrookie Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheReformedRookie Twitter: https://twitter.com/NYapologist Semper Reformanda!

How much has Italian Christmas changed over the years? Turns out, even in the last ten years, since we began this show, the way Italians celebrate Christmas has evolved. We listen back to one of our very first episodes, when we discussed Katy's first (and only) Christmas in Italy back in 2013. How did it feel different to her from Christmas in the States, and what makes an expat Christmas different from one in your home country? Listening back, Tiffany observes how different Christmas in Italy feels only ten years later. ------------------------------------- ADVERTISE WITH US: Reach expats, future expats, and travelers all over the world. Children may not look at her without suffering consequences. The origins of La Befana may lie in an Etruscan/Sabine goddess, and the paradoxical nature and perception of this witch figure may tell us something about the uneasy relationship of a patriarchal world with Nature.

The boys are back this week ready to talk about exactly what you wanted to hear: their Christmas traditions. Seeing that it is, in fact, the most wonderful time of the year, Josh and Dante talk a little bit about how they usually spend their holiday. Josh explains why he loves that his Christmas is much like another holiday we've discussed on the show, and in a very surprising turn of events, Dante tells us that his Italian family does not partake in a certain Italian Christmas tradition. Nevertheless, however you spend your holiday, make sure to be thankful and enjoy the time with family, friends, or whomever you celebrate with. Getting into the sports talk of the week, The Ravens took care of business against the NY Giants with a 35-14 win. Lamar Jackson continues his record setting season throwing the football, and one of our co-hosts believes that he is still the MVP. Rashod Bateman is also having the best year of his career, notching an 80 yard performance to go along with his 2 touchdowns this week. As Rashod Bateman truthers, the boys are very happy. The defense continues its strong stretch of games, and Ar'Darius Washington finally caught an interception. All in all, the Ravens did exactly what they should've done against the 2-12 Giants, and we're on to Pittsburgh. The Steelers are coming down to Baltimore for their yearly matchup and this one is all hands on deck. The boys reiterate what they said a few weeks ago in this game is a MUST WIN. John Harbaugh needs to prove he doesn't have a Mike Tomlin problem. Lamar Jackson needs to prove he can beat the Steelers. Finally, the Ravens need to prove that they are capable of winning the big one, and beating the Steelers is the first step. Josh gives his thoughts on the game, and Dante takes us through the numbers for Pittsburgh on the year along with his keys to victory. In the college football world, Bill Belichick is now the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels. Travis Hunter wins the 2024 Heisman Trophy. The boys give their favorite Christmas songs, and we send you into a wonderful weekend. We love you all and are so thankful for you. If this is the last episode before Christmas, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you. Cheers!

WE'RE BACK, BAYBEEE!IIt's time for the annual Italian Christmas special! This is the second story in "The Italian's Christmas" trilogy; a series of 3 books all about sexy Italian men at Christmas. Last year, we read "The Italian's Christmas Housekeeper," a story about an English housekeeper who got pregnant with an Italian billionaire after a one-night stand despite literally using up an entire box of condoms. This year, our story is about Mia James, an executive assistant who, you guessed it, gets pregnant after a one-night stand with an Italian billionaire. As our guest stars Vittorio Leonardi and Alex Byrne put it, "This story is like someone put Tumblr through an AI-book generator and sold it to Easons."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bad-book-bash--5889791/support.

The holiday season is upon us, and we're ushering it in with joy and music! A cherished family tradition of baking Italian Christmas cookies sparked a creative journey that has blossomed into our latest project: a complete Italian American Christmas album. Joined by our guest the remarkable Jenna Esposito, whose talents have shaped this festive musical creation, we reminisce about our past triumphs like "Twas, the Feast of the Seven Fishes" and last year's delightful "We All Say Buon Natale" music video. Jenna's energy and passion shine through as we share our excitement for this year's musical celebration, which promises to captivate hearts and bring communities together. But this episode isn't just about music; it's a heartwarming blend of cultural anecdotes and laughter. Picture this: a spirited debate over tea preferences at an Irish diner, a grandmother's tale from Belfast bridging cultural divides, and the timeless humor we all share with the holiday. We take you behind the scenes of our recording sessions, filled with camaraderie, humorous chaos, and perhaps one too many pizzas. It's a celebration of tradition and giving back! With each note and harmony, our album supports a charitable cause, making it a true labor of love. Join us as we share heartening stories of collaboration with the Bloomfield Mandolin Orchestra, delving into the magic of rare songs like the one about La Befana, and highlight the accordion's charming legacy in Italian music. This episode is a festive tapestry of nostalgia and new beginnings, inviting you to embrace the holiday spirit through music, laughter, and the rich tapestry of Italian American culture. It's finally here - the first of our Christmas specials. Rosalind has been getting out and about to talk to businesses and producers about all things Christmas - how they are preparing, what it entails, recommendations, tips and tricks - the Scran Christmas specials have it all! Across the two episodes Roslaind looks at the option of dining out on Christmas day with a trip to One Devonshire Gardens by Hotel Du Vin Glasgow. She investigates some of the best food and drink gifts available with long established retailers Valvona and Crolla and Mellis Cheese. Anyone for cocktail tips? Rosalind gets the inside track on creating festival tipples and boozy gifts this year from The Good Spirits Company. On Part 1 Rosalind visits the UK's longest running Italian deli - Edinburgh's Valvona and Crolla. Mary and Francesca Contini, who run the business, tell Rosalind all about the fascinating history of the business, the produce their customers keep returning for as well as tips for gifts and how they will celebrate a traditional Italian Christmas themselves. Each Christmas here at Scran we like to celebrate the work of a charity who is helping those in need all year round. This year Rosalind visits The Big Issue in Glasgow to hear all about how the magazine came about as well as its purpose and aims from editor Paul McNamee. Ever wondered how to ace your fantasy football game by employing shrewd tactics and strategies? Well, strap in folks, we're about to delve into a world of discussion and dissection of the Premier League and Fantasy Football. We're your hosts, Dan Adams and Dominic Adams, and today's episode is a whirlwind tour of an upcoming Manchester City and Liverpool match, the potential players to pick for fantasy football, and making well-reasoned captain choices. We've got key insights, playful banter, and a sprinkle of our favorite game of predicting clean sheets. We're going to tackle the challenging task of dissecting the Premier League landscape, starting with Burnley vs West Ham, moving to Luton vs Crystal Palace, and ending with Brighton vs Nottingham Forest. We'll navigate through the thorny issue of Bowen's injury, highlight the potential of Sam Johnston for a clean sheet, and even assess the penalty prowess of Carl Palmer. We'll also spotlight the current form of Chelsea and their fast-approaching fixtures, and the potential impact on your fantasy team. In our final act, we're going to help you navigate the often tricky world of Fantasy Premier League captain choices. We'll weigh the options of Salah, Haaland, Saka, and Sun, and reveal our top pick. We'll discuss how Matoma's injury could affect Brighton's game against Nottingham Forest, and the potential impact on your fantasy team. And to wrap things up, we'll share the changes we've made to our own fantasy football teams, and how these changes could potentially affect your game. So, ready to up your fantasy football game? Buckle up, and let's dive in!

Holiday spirit was flowing on our Friday, December 16 @NoFilter and @TwitterSpaces simulcast. Tony went off on the Twitter files drop proving the FBI and intelligence community were heavily involved in meeting and banning accounts to stop Trump in 2016 and even more so in 2020. The Covid Files should expose more collusion and treasonous attempts to limit free speech from legit doctors who were silenced for offering any blowback on the masks, mandates and vaccines. We had a bunch of fun talking college and pro football and came up with new bowls names more interesting than the 42 being played. Our Pal @NickKayal jumped on to talk reparations and how we can cash in our 800K from California by figuring out how much African blood we have in our DNA. We played a hilarious Italian Christmas song anyone ever near to a Family gathering would enjoy. We relived our 2010 Christmas Eve Show back in Philly when our official archivist Jim from Cheltenham racked the audio from it.
