Our guest today is one of the finest British soul singers of her generation. Whether leading the line or offering support from the background Dee C Lee has made an incredible contribution to the UKs music scene. She has created underground bangers and graced to the top ten both as a solo artist and as part of various collaborative projects. Having sung with the likes of Wham! The Style Council and as part of Guru's seminal Jazz Hip-Hop project Jazzamatazz. She has had and incredible career but now she is back front and centre with a new release on Acid Jazz records called 'Don't forget about love'. Before we talk to Dee we add a little seasoning to the pod as Deb and Eamon sprinkle Sault into the chat. Eamon tries and fails to get angry while Sault no doubt put out yet another album. Also featured this week is a discussion with writer and director Aaron Trinder whose latest film 'Free Party: A folk history' takes Eamon back to the glory days of rave and highlights the unsung history of the role that the traveller movement played in popularising the culture. We look at how the government tried to surpress the movement through blatant acts of violence and then used the rave scene as an excuse to pass draconian laws that have outlawed the traveller lifestyle and the right to listen to the music of your choice in the open air.Top one, nice one, sorted. I don't ONLY like to listen to one type of music,” says Resavoir frontman Will Miller. So, of course, his new work is a blend of genres. Resavoir started as a musician collective, but during the pandemic Miller embraced a more solitary style of making music. The hard work paid off, and the new album is out now. Reset talks with Will Miller, frontman of Resavoir and the man behind the project.

In this episode, we begin with UK artist DJ Shy One who explains the technical aspects of turntablism and the creative process of including jazz in her House Music sets. Black House Black Joy producer Shayna Wakefield and WBGO radio host Sheila Anderson, unpack the history of jazz in mainstream culture and its historical parallels to House music as a radical Black music tradition. Dr. Jasmine Henry speaks about the struggles of higher education institutions not accepting electronic music as Black music and how she found purpose and comfort when she places Jersey Club at the center of her research. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/blackhouseblackjoy/message

I was livestreaming a DJ mix and played 3 John Coltrane flips back to back and began to ponder doing a mix featuring Jazz/Hip Hop hybrids. I decided to challenge myself and only include tracks I've received in 2020. The result is FlyJazzSounds, the 30 minute mix you hear once you press play. Although, inspired by Jazz, the mix is primarily Hip Hop, unlike my Some Jazz series. Sadly, while completing the mix, Jazz critic Stanley Crouch passed away. I admired Crouch for his beautiful writing and intelligence, but largely disagreed with his thoughts on Jazz and especially Hip Hop. He had a really interesting idea that Davey Crockett was the first embodiment of Hip Hop. I'll share the link if I can find it again. RIP Bro Crouch. I'm still livestreaming, and can be found at www.twitch.tv/djrahdu. Please sign up so you can enjoy the mixes every Sunday at 1 30 PM CST.
