Planning to build a custom home? Lighting and electrical planning is one of the most important (and most overlooked) parts of the design process. And here's the thing ... it's not something you can figure out "later." It needs to happen before your electrician shows up on site and your walls go up.In this episode, I'm talking to Jenn Smith, a licensed residential architect with over 20 years of experience helping families navigate the custom home process. Jenn specializes in one of the most overlooked yet transformative parts of design: lighting and electrical planning. We're covering the biggest mistakes homeowners make (like waiting too long to plan), how to future-proof your home with smart electrical decisions, where to splurge and where to save on fixtures, and the exact spots you'll wish you'd added more outlets and switches....

What happens when the host becomes the guest? In this final episode of our Brave Women at Work: Lessons in Letting Go series, we're flipping the script. My dear friends (and co-authors) Jackie Cetera and Amy Quesenberry take the mic and interview me about my chapter in the book, “Blood, Sweat, and Careers.” I won't lie—I was nervous (still am). Sharing this story out loud is vulnerable. But like so many women in this book—and life—I've learned that letting go of old identities, relationships, expectations, and the weight of other people's actions has been the hardest and most freeing work of my life. We talk about: What led me to walk away from a "successful" corporate career How a health challenge became the wake-up call (and permission slip) I didn't know I needed And why I chose to build a business rooted in heart This entire season of The Flourish Careers Podcast serves as a reminder that letting go is not loss—it's liberation. And sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is write your own story. With all my heart, thank you. Thank you for listening, for supporting, and for walking this path with us.

I am so excited for my guest today, Jenn Smith. Jenn and I met in a very interesting way. Jenn was listening to the Brave Women at Work Podcast, especially the show with Heather Eck. This show was just rebroadcast as the best of 2024 episode on 12/26/2024. If you haven't listened to that one, you must go back and check it out!Jenn was intrigued by my conversation with Heather, an artist with the amazing story of owning her gift of synesthesia, or the mixing of the senses. Heather is a former HR professional who bravely left the corporate world to pursue her work as an artist and specifically to own her ability to heal with color. She intuitively sees people as colors and creates prescriptive Spirit Portraits to help her clients. My portrait is magenta, gold, and violet, and is so beautiful! After the podcast, Jenn got her own spirit portrait and asked to connect with me via Heather. And the rest is history!During my conversation with Jenn, we chatted about:What does flourishing in your career mean? What are the signs you need a career change, whether that it inside or outside your organization? What is HEART centered career planning? What does H.E.A.R.T. stand for? What is the Gathering Ground? What about the Greenhouse? What is that? What is five minutes to flourish? Jen tells us all about her treehouse and why she has themed her business with nature or growth terminology.Resources:Brave Women at Work: https://bravewomenatwork.com/The Flourish Careers Podcast Podcast - Apple PodcastsCareer Coaching, Career Change Coaching, for Professionals, and HR Consulting for Business Leaders, Flourish Careers LLCBrave Women at Work Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/bravewomenatwork

To set yourself up by asking yourself what is next in your career? What industry aligns with where I want to be? Do they share the same values that are important to me or am I just drifting along because it is easier? What is the role I want to play and how do my skills transfer to this role? How do I want to impact this industry? She suggests taking an energy audit, find the patterns or clues that support you with what brings you joy, how does it align with who you are being. And that having only one career is not the goal in today's world. Seeing the many possibilities available to you is so important. There is a broken system when it comes to how resumes are received, and AI helps to filter but when you receive 1000's there is no way to get back to every person who is applying so what is a person to do? So how much time does Senator Sonia Chang-Díaz still have tos save her candidacy? Jenn Smith started quilting about 15 years ago but put quilting on the backburner when kids came into the picture. Now, with the kids all in school, she's sewing and quilting again and hasn't looked back. After a few years of making quilts and pattern testing, she decided to take it one step further and start at the beginning of the creative process--writing her own quilt patterns. Jenn loves modern quilts and the freedom they give her in choosing colors and shapes and , as well as giving the negative space the same weight as the space which is filled with color. In this episode, I chat with Jenn @jennbquilts about finding inspiration in architecture, the magical feeling of seeing a quilt come to life, and learning about the background stories of quilts. You can find Jenn online at www.jennbquilts.com and @jennbquilts on Instagram, FB, and Pinterest. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rachelle-craig/support

Jenn Smith, a transgender identifying male, returns to the show to discuss a court case over a transgender-identifying natal female, in which the father's right to refuse medical treatment on her behalf has been blocked. This is not so unusual, sadly, but in this case the judge is also ordering the father to refer to his daughter only with male words, and is trying to block him from communicating with the press, even when the name of his daughter is protected. Jenn Smith is not only a journalist, speaker and activist, but has also been hit with court orders due to their reporting on this issue. He reports how he informed the judge that one of the reasons why so many people were breaking the court ordered silence, was lack of respect for a court that was trying to force people to speak a lie. Locked On Blue Jays - Daily Podcast On The Toronto Blue Jays
It's a sweep-celebrating episode of the podcast today! But does host Ryan Andrews have an interesting plan for the Blue Jays to discuss? In the first segment, Andrews praises the efforts of young Thomas Pannone and his dazzling performance against Baltimore. The host is especially pleased with Pannone's seventh-inning efforts when things could have easily unraveled for the Blue Jays. Andrews says that is the real sign that Pannone can be a key piece for this club.In the middle segment, Andrews turns to Joe Biagini and another strong outing from the erstwhile starter/reliever. The Nova Scotian cites a great interview done by Jenn Smith for The Sporting News that offers some insights into how Biagini is attacking the rest of the season and trying to establish his rhythm. Andrews approves. In the finale, Andrews discusses a plan for Teoscar Hernandez and that plan is demotion. With Billy McKinney playing well and Lourdes Gurriel set to return from the DL, Andrews says that Hernandez should be sent on the Devon Travis express to Buffalo to regain confidence in the tail-end of the AAA season. It can't hurt.Check out Jenn Smith's article at the link below and follow her @Baseball_Jenn!http://www.sportingnews.com/ca/mlb/news/joe-biagini-toronto-blue-jays-reliever-consistency-up-down-season-marco-estrada-marcus-stroman-mlb-news/a9kw5tmrxwx41o35qgv2oxk3nFollow the podcast on Twitter @LockedOnJays and follow the host @NeoAC18!Subscribe on Google Play and iTunes! This episode is sponsored by Locked on NFL and Locked on College.
