I am so excited for my guest today, Jenn Smith. Jenn and I met in a very interesting way. Jenn was listening to the Brave Women at Work Podcast, especially the show with Heather Eck. This show was just rebroadcast as the best of 2024 episode on 12/26/2024. If you haven't listened to that one, you must go back and check it out!Jenn was intrigued by my conversation with Heather, an artist with the amazing story of owning her gift of synesthesia, or the mixing of the senses. Heather is a former HR professional who bravely left the corporate world to pursue her work as an artist and specifically to own her ability to heal with color. She intuitively sees people as colors and creates prescriptive Spirit Portraits to help her clients. My portrait is magenta, gold, and violet, and is so beautiful! After the podcast, Jenn got her own spirit portrait and asked to connect with me via Heather. And the rest is history!During my conversation with Jenn, we chatted about:What does flourishing in your career mean? What are the signs you need a career change, whether that it inside or outside your organization? What is HEART centered career planning? What does H.E.A.R.T. stand for? What is the Gathering Ground? What about the Greenhouse? What is that? What is five minutes to flourish? Jen tells us all about her treehouse and why she has themed her business with nature or growth terminology.Resources:Brave Women at Work: https://bravewomenatwork.com/The Flourish Careers Podcast Podcast - Apple PodcastsCareer Coaching, Career Change Coaching, for Professionals, and HR Consulting for Business Leaders, Flourish Careers LLCBrave Women at Work Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/bravewomenatwork

Joining us today are Jenn Smith and Nisha Jaime. Jenn is 42 years old, and a 3-year breast cancer survivor. She and her husband have been married for 17 years. Nisha is 45 years old and a 1-year breast cancer survivor. She is also married with 3 school-aged children. How do you know when it is time to pivot or be pivoted in your career? Join us as we speak with Jenn Smith, founder of Flourish Careers as she shares her thoughts on how to make that transition when you are ready to pivot or if you are being pivoted. We spend 90,000 + hours working in our careers, and it is so important to be doing what you love. During our conversation Jenn shares how to reconnect from the heart as you navigate the complexities of transitioning, being aware of the energy you are generating and the impact you have on those you lead.Value alignment is so important and to break that down between your core values and your lifestyle values. To set yourself up by asking yourself what is next in your career? What industry aligns with where I want to be? Do they share the same values that are important to me or am I just drifting along because it is easier? What is the role I want to play and how do my skills transfer to this role? How do I want to impact this industry? She suggests taking an energy audit, find the patterns or clues that support you with what brings you joy, how does it align with who you are being. And that having only one career is not the goal in today's world. Seeing the many possibilities available to you is so important. There is a broken system when it comes to how resumes are received, and AI helps to filter but when you receive 1000's there is no way to get back to every person who is applying so what is a person to do? Tap into the “Hidden Job Market” – building a strong and vibrant network is key. If you are looking for a role, determine who you might know in that organization and if you don't know someone make it a point to get to know the people that work there. Find out what the company is like and how they operate to determine if it is the right fit for you. Finding a job is a full -time job and requires intention. Such a great conversation and Jenn shares so many stories and ways to support your career pivot. She also hosts her podcast “ The Flourish Careers” podcast with helpful tips and resources. Senator Elizabeth Warren is sounding the alarm ahead of the midterm elections, calling on her fellow Democrats to focus squarely on Americans' economic concerns to avoid a blowout in November. But does she have the influence to inspire President Biden and the rest of her party to act? Talking Politics Host Adam Reilly speaks with Robert Kuttner, the co-founder and co-editor of the American Prospect and a professor at Brandeis University's Heller School for Social Policy and Management, about whether Warren's political Rx would work — and whether another Warren presidential bid might be in the offing. First, though, a new poll shows that Attorney General Maura Healey's lead in the Democratic Massachusetts governor's primary is pushing fifty percent. So how much time does Senator Sonia Chang-Díaz still have tos save her candidacy? Boston Globe Columnist Adrian Walker and Jenn Smith, a correspondent for the Dorchester Reporter and co-host of the Horse Race political podcast, sized up the state of the Democratic contest, as well as Republican candidate Chris Doughty's still-evolving description of his own political philosophy. Jenn Smith started quilting about 15 years ago but put quilting on the backburner when kids came into the picture. Now, with the kids all in school, she's sewing and quilting again and hasn't looked back. After a few years of making quilts and pattern testing, she decided to take it one step further and start at the beginning of the creative process--writing her own quilt patterns. Jenn loves modern quilts and the freedom they give her in choosing colors and shapes and , as well as giving the negative space the same weight as the space which is filled with color. In this episode, I chat with Jenn @jennbquilts about finding inspiration in architecture, the magical feeling of seeing a quilt come to life, and learning about the background stories of quilts. You can find Jenn online at www.jennbquilts.com and @jennbquilts on Instagram, FB, and Pinterest. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rachelle-craig/support
Catharine Young was named executive director of the New York State Center of Excellence for Food and Agriculture in March 2019. A longtime champion of agricultural and economic development, Catharine served for 20 years in the New York State Legislature representing western New York. During that time, she chaired the Senate Agriculture Committee, founded the Legislative Wine and Grape Caucus, sponsored legislation to create the New York State Council on Food Policy, and chaired the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources. Today we talk with the amazing Jenn Smith of The High Rollers about her upcoming Boudoir Live Event in Las Vegas! Plus we have a HUGE announcement!!!
Jenn and I have now been able to hang out twice in Texas in person and hug each others' necks. We have been able to chat about our faith, our love of the outdoors, our family and who we are. When we were discussing what this podcast was going to involve it was hard because Jenn is on Instagram just to almost treat it like a journal of her love of the outdoors. Her question to me "what makes me different than others or how do I stand out beyond others" is a valid question. An easy answer though...authentic living at its finest! Jenn and I talk about how the outdoors was a huge part of her life growing up but she lost it a bit along the way of adulthood. So listen in to find out how she found herself again in the mountains. We talk about how hunting and fly fishing is very very similar. Hear how living real and honest is so much easier than working the "fake Social Media life" and what it has meant to her finding others who are like minded!
Episode #39 of the Fact Up Podcast features Jenn Smith Nelson, Travel Writer, Photographer, Author and the woman behind Travel + Happiness, a site dedicated to experiences that promote gratitude, the beauty of wildlife and the importance of conservation. 10/14/20-- While Stephanie Murray could not make it on The Horse Race this week, she did not fail to bring us the content that really matters. By this of course we mean her Bachelorette recap complete with a #MApoli connection. The bachelor Stephanie had her eye on was, "Certified Harvard Guy" Bennet Jordan. She ran his name through the FEC database and nothing came up, but because he's 36 - 37 years old, it means he likely crossed paths with a number of familiar #MApoli faces who were at Harvard University the same time as him. Can you figure out who they were? And in *actual* #MApoli news, state budget season is a few months late this year due to COVID-19. Governor Charlie Baker submitted his annual budget in which he pulled from the emergency fund to cover the anticipated loss of revenue for this year. Jenn Smith notes, “There might be some interesting implications / kind of agonizing, frustrating implications if you start thinking a year out. What do you do if we have another year of this kind of loss in revenue?” Of course, Baker's proposal has yet to undergo a probably lengthy process of workshopping by the legislature before it is finalized. Also happening this week are Senate hearings of Supreme Court Justice nominee Amy Coney Barrett. So far, Jenn says, the process has been "interesting but predictable." Senate Democrats are pushing Barrett for answers on how she might rule on Roe v. Wade, the Affordable Care Act, and whether she'll recuse herself in the event of an election result dispute. Barrett has mostly refused to come down one way or another on any of these topics, taking the conventional route of vowing not to enter the Supreme Court with an agenda, and rather stick to the rule of law and decide cases as they come. -- A new Suffolk University / Boston Globe poll shows Joe Biden with a 10-point lead on Donald Trump in New Hampshire. This is notable for a couple reasons, one of which brings us back to 2016. During that election season, a conspiracy theory claiming hordes of Massachusetts voters illegally cast votes in New Hampshire for Hillary Clinton gained an outsize amount of attention. The theory was perpetuated by the president who claimed he would've secured the popular vote if not for the "voter fraud" in New Hampshire. The theory was unsurprisingly debunked, but, as Steve points out, with a much wider margin being shown so far in 2020, such conspiracy theories likely won't be given as much weight. Instead, Steve says, they'll be called out for what they are -- "quackery." -- GBH News Reporter Paul Singer stops by The Horse Race to discuss his recent coverage of Boston's failure to comply with ordinances on hiring diversity. As of 2017, most large public and private construction projects in the city are mandated to employ 51% Boston residents, 40% people of color and 12% women. Time and again, however, builders have not met these standards. Singer explains that some subcontractors have shown "terrible performance" on hiring residents, people of color, and women. But, he says, "None of them ever get punished for it, and they still get rehired for the next job, so there's no real consequence for blowing it off.” -- New measures to improve police accountability and transparency are in the works in Boston. Mayor Marty Walsh and Police Commissioner William Gross said Tuesday they plan to implement all recommendations from the city's police reform task force that includes replacing the city's community oversight panel with an independent office with expanded powers. Sarah Betancourt of CommonWealth Magazine reported on this and joins The Horse Race hosts to talk about it. Along with the new independent oversight office, Walsh and Gross committed to adopting an expansion of the body cam program, greater enforcement of use of force policies, improving data collection, a new diversity unit, and better access for anyone who wants to get body cam footage.

9/24/20-- This month has proven to be a sad one for the courts both here in Massachusetts and nationally, with the passing of Justice Ralph Gants, and more recently, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Jenn, Steve, and Stephanie discuss the commonality between Governor Charlie Baker and President Donald Trump -- appointing a significant number of justices. In Boston news, city councilor Andrea Campbell put an end to speculation today when she made the announcement that she is in fact running for mayor. That makes two female candidates running for the position. Mayor Marty Walsh has not yet declared whether he'll run for re-election. Dorchester expert Jenn Smith gives her take on how Campbell will likely position herself in the race if Walsh is to seek re-election. As Americans wonder what will happen to the vacant Supreme Court Justice seat, many are concerned if a conservative justice is confirmed before the election, reproductive rights may be in jeopardy. Rebecca Hart Holder, executive director of NARAL Pro Choice Massachusetts joins the show to talk about what's at stake for Massachusetts if Roe v. Wade is overturned, and she explains the renewed push by pro-choice activists around passing the ROE Act.
On this week's Media Project Alan, Judy, Rex and Jenn talk about media coverage of the national conventions, whether the Huffington Post reporter should have asked the President if he regrets lying so much to the American people, the issues surrounding voting by mail and the post office, and more. Jenn Smith, a transgender identifying male, returns to the show to discuss a court case over a transgender-identifying natal female, in which the father's right to refuse medical treatment on her behalf has been blocked. This is not so unusual, sadly, but in this case the judge is also ordering the father to refer to his daughter only with male words, and is trying to block him from communicating with the press, even when the name of his daughter is protected. Jenn Smith is not only a journalist, speaker and activist, but has also been hit with court orders due to their reporting on this issue. He reports how he informed the judge that one of the reasons why so many people were breaking the court ordered silence, was lack of respect for a court that was trying to force people to speak a lie. Let's talk about Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Jenn Smith Nelson has co-authored a book called "110 Nature Hot Spots in Manitoba and Saskatchewan." These two provinces are sometimes viewed as flyovers—especially next to tourism heavy-hitters like Alberta, BC, Ontario and Quebec. So what do they have to offer? What does it mean to be a Saskatchewanite? And why should you touch down in Canada's heartland? Plus, we'll discuss her new book and why the guidebook format still has a place in the 21st century.
Jenn Smith is a 53 year-old transgender identified male. Born in Oliver, British Columbia. He has degrees in history and political science, and has extensive life experience being transgender and interacting with the transgender community. He first began expressing as the opposite gender when he was about 9 years old and believes these impulses came out of childhood trauma and a sense of rejection. He has battled these impulses in himself for decades. He has been writing and speaking on the dangers that transgender ideology poses to women and children, and more recently has focused his efforts on exposing SOGI 123 in schools and its assault on parental rights, freedom of religion, and freedom of conscience. He has done countless public talks all across BC, Staged rallies and protests, presented to School Boards, and his TV interview with Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson was banned from broadcast because of the alleged “offensive” nature of the subject matter. The title of his most recent public talk is “Destroying Our Most Vulnerable Children and the Assault on Religion: A Transgender Perspective on Why SOGI 123 Must Be Scrapped.” Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jennsmith64 Twitter: https://twitter.com/JennSmith64 Youtube: @Transanity - Jenn Smith Web: https://transanityca.wordpress.com ___________________________________________________ Video of Episode: https://youtu.be/SjAAbT2x4E8 —WEBSTUFF— ★ https://www.markhughescomedy.com ★ To donate to the cause, visit SubscribeStar: https://www.subscribestar.com/markhughescomic ★ Merchandise: https://mark-hughes-comedy.myshopify.com/collections/all —FOLLOW ME— ■ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/markhughescomic ■ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/markhughescomic/

If you think your career path's been weird, you've got *nothing* on today's guest, career coach Jenn Smith. Jenn started her career as the graveyard shift potato chip manufacturing supervisor in upstate New York. (Seriously!) But, spoiler alert: she didn't stay there forever. She's an inspirational story about the power of tenacity (and grit) when it comes to creating the career you want. (Even when you initially get rejected for your dream job in HR!) Jenn found a way to make a professional pivot from the manufacturing floor shoveling potatoes into a HR office job by taking some big career risks, and is now loving the “chapter 2” of her human resources work as a career coach -- but she definitely experienced twists and turns along the way. Who gets to assign meaning to the names our favorite dishes and drinks? Should plant-based beverages be called milk? Is ramen quintessentially Japanese? Who gets to decide what ciders can be labeled "dry?" And why can't tiki bars have white walls and windows? After this episode, you'll never think of these foods the same way! This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York State Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council. Additional music includes "Secret of Tiki Island" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Meat + Three is powered by Simplecast.
The title of his most recent public talk is “Destroying Our Most Vulnerable Children and the Assault on Religion: A Transgender Perspective on Why SOGI 123 Must Be Scrapped.” Facebook (private right now because of multiple attempts to get Jenn banned): https://www.facebook.com/jennsmith64 Twitter: https://twitter.com/JennSmith64 Essay: https://transanityca.wordpress.com/2017/08/13/synanon-the-brainwashing-game-and-modern-transgender-activism-the-orwellian-implications-of-transgender-politics-by-jenn-smith/ Web: www.markhughescomedy.com Twitter: @PTT604 Facebook: www.facebook.com/PTT604/ Patreon: www.patreon.com/markhughescomic

The excitement of Cider Week NYC continues. Jenn Smith, Eleanor Leger, Kyle Sherrer, Gidon Coll, and Ron Sansone stay in the studio to continue their conversation about the trajectory of the cider industry, cider’s variation across regions, and cider’s role in the food and agriculture sector. Reverend Nat calls in from Portland Oregon. He recognizes how unique Portland’s cider scene is but has a clear message for the industry at large: ‘Educate, educate, educate!’ This will be made possible by new organizations like CINA: the Cider Institute of North America. Nick Gunn, the co-founder of Cider Con calls in to tell us more about it. In the meantime the question remains: what is the market ready for and what path will this developing industry follow?
