I'm a marketing person.Mivium, led by CEO Eric Tsai, is pioneering a new wave in semiconductor technology with gallium nitride (GaN), a material poised to replace silicon in a variety of applications. GaN not only increases efficiency but also reduces energy consumption in devices, a benefit that's especially valuable as AI and data centers grow in demand. “Our process keeps our production output clean, and we don't use toxic materials,” Eric explained. This shift addresses the environmental and health issues plaguing traditional semiconductor production. The company's unique GaN production technique offers substantial benefits, from fast-switching properties to downsized device components. “GaN has a fast-switching property... and it can perform double as fast and better,” Eric said, adding that it's currently being used in chargers, with plans to expand into data centers where it can dramatically cut energy usage. These advantages make Mivium's gallium nitride a significant contender in the drive toward sustainable tech.In a promising move for both the business and potential investors, Mivium is raising capital through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign on Equifund. This approach allows everyday investors to support groundbreaking tech, which Eric himself champions as a crowdfunding advocate. By sharing Mivium's journey with the public, he aims to democratize early-stage investment opportunities, giving people a chance to invest in future tech with high social and environmental value. As Mivium's crowdfunding progresses, it may inspire tech enthusiasts and impact investors alike to support a cleaner, more efficient semiconductor future.Explore GaN chargers on Amazon.tl;dr:* Eric Tsai's Mivium focuses on gallium nitride (GaN) to replace silicon, improving efficiency and sustainability.* GaN's fast-switching properties make devices smaller, more powerful, and less energy-intensive.* Mivium's unique, clean GaN production process avoids the toxic materials typical in semiconductors.* Nevada's tech-friendly policies support Mivium's plans to establish a new “gallium valley” in Reno.* By crowdfunding, Eric brings everyday investors into Mivium's journey, making early-stage investing accessible. How to Develop Effective Communication As a SuperpowerEric's superpower is his ability to communicate complex ideas in relatable ways. As a seasoned marketing professional, he has mastered the art of translating technical concepts into simple analogies that resonate with diverse audiences, especially in high-tech fields like semiconductors. This skill allows him to bridge gaps in understanding, helping people grasp the value and impact of innovations, even without specialized knowledge. In today's episode, Eric shared how he explains the intricate science behind Mivium's gallium nitride (GaN) technology. Comparing GaN to "flour" for baking, he helps people visualize Mivium's product as a better alternative to silicon. By presenting the science as an everyday item, he enables audiences to connect with Mivium's mission. This analogy makes it easier for potential investors and customers to understand GaN's advantages, such as improved energy efficiency, which contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable tech future.Tips for Developing Effective Communication as a Superpower:* Think from the Other Person's Perspective: Approach communication by considering the audience's interests and needs. Tailor your message so they feel you genuinely care about them and their concerns.* Use Analogies to Simplify Complex Ideas: Find familiar comparisons, like Eric's “flour” analogy, to help people understand technical or abstract concepts.* Tell a Compelling Story: Craft your messaging as a narrative. A good story resonates more and helps audiences remember your message.* Conduct Surveys and Gather Feedback: Regularly survey customers and prospects to ensure your message aligns with their needs and experiences, making necessary adjustments to improve clarity.By following Eric Tsai's example and advice, you can make effective communication a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileEric Tsai (he/him):CEO, Mivium, Inc.About Mivium, Inc.: Mivium develops advanced semiconductor materials to meet the current and future needs of society. La-Z-Boy released their earnings report during their call where CEO, Melinda Whittington, stated to their investors, "We reported consolidated delivered sales of $500 million, up 5% versus our most recent pre-pandemic third quarter and down 13% versus prior year." This announcement shows the company's progress in light of market fluctuations caused by the pandemic. On evaluating the earnings report, it was found that La-Z-Boy has experienced a 5% increase in total consolidated delivered sales, indicating an attempt at recovery from the effects of the pandemic, compared to the pre-pandemic third quarter. Concurrently, there was an improvement in the non-GAAP gross margin by 140 basis points across all segments, suggesting enhancements in operational efficacy. A look at the company's strategies and activities reveals La-Z-Boy's Century Vision. This strategy aims to broaden their brand reach and expand the Furniture Galleries network, signaling a focus on strategic growth initiatives. The company's strategic investments in acquisitions and campaigns, along with brand optimization, represent an effort towards strengthening the business, improving brand awareness, and bolstering sales growth. La-Z-Boy acknowledges challenges and opportunities in meeting changing consumer behavior, caused by a slowdown in the furniture and home furnishings industry due to various factors like house turnover, interest rates, and affordability. This is validated by metrics such as a decrease in comparable store sales and weather-impacted traffic trends. For future strategies and investments, La-Z-Boy is continuing with its Century Vision growth strategy, which outlines an expansion of the Furniture Galleries network, emphasis on brand promotion, and optimizing businesses like Joybird. Additionally, there are plans for enhancing operational efficiency through supply chain optimization and plant productivity improvements. Paired with a capital allocation strategy that aims to deliver shareholder value via dividend payments and share buybacks, La-Z-Boy's direction is clear. In conclusion, based on the information provided during the earnings call, La-Z-Boy is navigating challenging market conditions by focusing on strategic initiatives, improving operational efficiency, reinforcing its brand, adapting to consumer trends, and developing long-term growth strategies. However, the projected outcomes are contingent on multiple market forces, indicating there are no guaranteed outcomes. For a more comprehensive understanding of potential growth, it's essential to consider other market factors and risks. Growing up on a farm in Denmark, Kirsten was far from the world of beauty she found herself in NYC. While her upbringing was not conventional, Kirsten knew she was destined for greatness and listened to her gut from a very young age. Kirsten Kjaer Weis worked around the world for some of the most renowned fashion magazines like Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire. As an in-demand makeup artist, Kirsten found that people were sacrificing the health of their skin by using irritating, synthetic makeup. The natural products, however, were not up to par in performance, and the luxury of the beauty experience was lost. Kirsten used her experience growing up in a natural environment and her knowledge of beauty to pursue uncharted territory in the industry, creating Kjaer Weis - a pioneer in organic, luxury beauty. Kirsten has led the brand since 2010 and it continues to thrive as one of the leading clean beauty brands.Kirsten also shares:How she pioneered the “organic” and clean beauty spaceHow the brand offers sustainable packaging optionsHow the brand has evolved over the last decadeHow the brand remains true to its ethos and avoids “trends” in beautyYou'll also hear Kirsten's advice to her younger self and what's next for Kjaer Weis.Be sure to check out Kjaer Weis at www.kjaerweis.com and on Instagram @kjaerweisWe hope you enjoy this episode and gain valuable insights into Kirsten's journey and the growth of her brand. This brand new conversation is raw, incredibly revealing, and somewhat emotional! You can't get more vulnerable than the girls are in this episode. Cait celebrates 365 days without alcohol. She discusses how drastically her life has changed – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Cait's powerful story about choosing herself and making her sober reality her favorite place to be. And then, unexpectedly, Catt reveals her own battles with alcohol. For the first time ever she details drinking before going on national television and how that reality has haunted her for years. A secret she had been keeping. Why she was holding on to some of these memories and how meaningful it is to let it go. Then, of course, as with every Catt and Cait catch-up, our host brings us up to speed on her dating life. She's come a long way baby! Is there someone new? Has a genuine connection been made for the first time in a very long time? And what does psilocybin have to do with it? Yep, this is one humdinger of a story in one of our favorite episodes of the year. We cannot wait to hear what you think! Sam and Emma host economist Michael Albert to discuss his recent book No Bosses: A New Economy For A Better World, on his theory of a third option of an allocation system, beyond free-markets and central planning, based around values of self-management, solidarity, diversity, equity, and a deconstruction of the division of labor. They begin by walking through what Albert means by “participatory economy,” and why the values he sets forwards are central to its functioning, before he, Emma, and Sam dive into why the demarkation of socioeconomic classes is so central to his program, looking at the alienating qualities of the concentration of power and decision-making in the professional-managerial class (what he calls the coordinator class). To emphasize this element, Michael Albert dives into experiences he had in Argentina in the wake of their 2001 financial crisis, working with democratized workplaces that found that, by maintaining the divisions of labor, alienation continued to find itself ingrained in unbalanced and task-based positions. Next, they dive into the role public schooling and higher education have in sorting and setting up the divide between the coordinator and task-compliant classes, before they move into the abolition of private property, but rather than putting it into the hands of the “state,” reserving it as a sort of “productive commons” where it is allocated based on responsible and socially valuable uses. Lastly, they dive into the allocation system that Albert envisions, as an evolving dialogue between workers and consumers that is aware of the necessity of pricing goods responsibly and clearly, and one that, unlike central planning or free-market systems, maintains dignity, empowers workers, promotes self-management, and maintains diversity and equity. Emma and Sam also dive into the disturbing instances of the Right's Islamophobic abuses of Ilhan Omar, alongside the bipartisan establishment's passive endorsement of this by refusing to hold GOP officials accountable. And in the Fun Half: Sam, Emma, and the MR crew unpack Michael Albert's new economic system, Matteo from Slovenia gives Sam space to wax about tax as they discuss the differences between income and VAT taxation, and Dick Durbin ponders the state of one Joe Manchin. Tucker finally finds a soft spot in his heart for brothers who defend sexual predators, before he is awe-inspired by Jason Whitlock's 40-second dash to replacement theory. Dr. Oz announces his candidacy in Pennsylvania, Jack from Albany calls in regarding the upcoming 2022 NY Primaries and Hochul's role as a wolf in sheep's clothing. Nancy Mace and Marjorie Taylor Greene give Kevin McCarthy trouble Democratic voters only wish their leadership would be able to achieve, plus, your calls and IMs! It's easy to say that traditional marketing is dead but that's false to some degree. Marketing at the end of the day is all about getting a potential customer's attention with a call to action of some sort. Either you want them to learn about you, buy from you, or set a little reminder that the brand is still around. We will see in this episode how brands are using more traditional marketing strategies to get more attention and reach new customers! To get more info on these stories, check out the original articles:Why Brands Using Catalogs During Q4Joybird Launches New National TV CampaignNike In The Metaverse With Roblox

Sam and Emma host Dave Goulson, professor of biology at the University of Sussex, to discuss his recent book Silent Earth: Averting the Insect Apocalypse, on the rampant decline of insect populations worldwide over the last few decades, and how the trend continuing could completely alter our relationships to crops and practically all plant life. Professor Goulson dives into the essential niches that insects fill, from their role as pollinators to being bio-control agents and recyclers of all sorts of life, as well as the ties between climate change and the insect apocalypse, both in terms of the issues that create them, and in how they reinforce each other. Next, he, Emma, and Sam discuss how this trend towards extinction is hitting the pollinating insects we appreciate (butterflies, bees) while the pest-like ones (mosquitoes, houseflies) have been able to adapt and thrive in human habitation, before they get into the effects we've seen, and what the future of this trend could look like, from hand-pollination to massive food scarcity. They also touch on the biggest drivers of insect extinction, with habitat loss at the top of the list, alongside insecticide, changing climates, even light pollution, and Professor Goulson reminds us of the ease with which this could be reversed, both on a structural and individual level. Sam and Emma also dive into the continued fear-mongering around inflation and the deficit when it comes to infrastructure, while we're about to pass a $780 billion defense budget and remind us of the dangers of nonstick pans as PFOS are revealed to be even more toxic than we thought. And in the Fun Half: Bro Flamingo calls in to discuss accountability and punishment, especially when it comes to the Rittenhouse case, Sam clarifies his position on being a socialist (he doesn't have one), and the crew comes up with a perfect solution to Alec from Minneapolis trying to shift his parents away from cable news: the Majority Report. Mehdi Hasan goes after Brad Raffensperger, forcing the issue of supporting Trump to the fore, Chris Christie gets shamed by Nicolle Wallace for criticizing MSNBC and CNN while letting Fox run wild, before he also births the discussion of the Mount Rushmore of Trump-Cucks. Ronald Raygun corrects the record on what's wrong with Sam, Candace Owens presents a platform of Stolen Valor, and Jeremy from TX talks doomsday prep culture, plus, your calls and IMs! Cat & Nat are the dynamic duo behind the virally famous #MOMTRUTHS videos. Through honesty and humour, these ladies have built a following in the millions (and a business empire in the millions) simply by showing up as themselves and telling it like it is. This week, we sat down on the podcast to chat with them about how the last year and a half has looked with 7 kids at home and how moms have really carried a burden like no other during this pandemic. They're also just days away from heading back out on tour and we talked about how letting go of the reins a bit is really one of the best things you can do to raise resilient kids. PLUS, Shenae shares a brief story about how she literally had her husband on her vision board. This is a two part episode, so to listen to the second half of this episode where Annalynne and Shenae dive deeper into their 90210 history, head over to the MOMTRUTHS podcast anywhere that you listen to podcasts. Positive psychology is a relatively new area of study and it's garnered a ton of attention over the last few years - but what exactly is positive psychology, how is it connected to the relationships we have, and what can you start doing today to find more fulfillment, happiness, and success in life? What to Listen ForWhat are the core teachings of positive psychology and how can you implement them to get through the lows of life? What is the danger of identifying yourself with work or hobbies or relationships and if those are not ideal, where should you draw your identity from?Rob Mack touches on cognitive agility and emotional regulation and why those two ideas help explain why so many people suffer from addictionWhy is it unhealthy to perceive relationships as something to “complete” you and how should you look at them instead? What can you say to someone who is clearly playing the victim and help them move beyond it?What is the one thing we know about the effective therapies around the world and how can you use it to ensure you don't push people away? Why can comparing yourself to others be detrimental to your happiness and how can you avoid the comparison trap? What can you do to make life cooperate with you and make those challenging times more manageable? How can you interact with toxic people in a manner that allows you to maintain your positive attitude?Happiness is both a choice itself, as well as the result of choices you make in various areas of your life. To be as happy as you want to be, you must take full responsibility for everything in your life, and that includes everything that happens to you. The more blame you try to shift onto other people and things, the more power you give away, and that power is what enables you to choose your happiness. On top of that, the people you spend time with absolutely have an influence over your ability to choose your happiness, making it harder or easier to make that choice. You can be happy and fulfilled around toxic people, but if it's easier to be happy when you're around people who support and encourage you and choose to engage you in positive conversations, why would you want to spend your time with anything but?A Word From Our SponsorsShare your vulnerabilities, victories, and questions in our 17,000-member private Facebook group at theartofcharm.com/challenge. Happiness is not meant to be a permanent state you exist in, but if you're not meant to just feel good all the time, what is the end goal of creating our happiness and how do we approach the inevitable pain and suffering we all face in life? What to Listen ForWhy can negative emotions be your best friend when it comes to your happiness?Russ Harris debunks the popular myths about happiness and explains how they can actually lead you to be miserableIn what ways are meaning and purpose related to your ability to maintain your happiness in the long term? How does Russ Harris define a rich and meaningful life that leads to an overall feeling of happiness? What can you do to be more comfortable and accepting of “negative” emotions and how does doing so help you avoid suffering? What is the difference between values, virtues, and morals? Why is it so important to define your values if you want to lead a rich and meaningful life full of happiness?Russ Harris explains what the “reality gap” and “reality slap” are and how your awareness of them can lead you to better handle life's challengesWhat is the magic wand question and how can you use it to narrow down your most important valuesHow do you translate values into goals and action plans to ensure you don't stagnate?4One of the most popular myths revolving around happiness is this idea that once you “achieve” it you'll transcend feelings like anger, sadness, pain, and hate, but these are all part of the full depth of human experience. To attempt to remove them from your experience is to remove a part of your humanity. We utilize all of our feelings and emotions to better understand ourselves and the world we live in.Instead, we want to change the way we look at such emotions, strive to understand what is causing you to feel unpleasant emotions, and make better choices about how you respond to them when you start feeling them. Finally, we want to learn to look inward for explanations instead of reacting outward with blame and spite.A Word From Our SponsorsShare your vulnerabilities, victories, and questions in our 17,000-member private Facebook group at theartofcharm.com/challenge.
