Keizer-based nurse Yvonne Groenhout has decades of experience as an intensive care unit nurse. She’s officially retired, but fills in at a local hospital in Southern Oregon when the need arises. Groenhout has also volunteered her medical expertise in Chicago, Los Angeles, Ukraine and, most recently, Gaza. English Version: Today we are talking about "Enabling Humanitarian Logistics" with Lynn C Fritz. In a recent episode, we spoke with the International Medical Corps. They won the Logistics Hall of Fame award last year, which Lynn donates. And today we talk to Lynn himself. He tells us about his past in logistics, why he decided at some point to do something else and what he is doing today. At 82, he is the guest with the most life experience on our podcast - and he shares plenty of it with us. We were impressed by how someone who has really achieved a lot in his life is dealing with humanitarian logistics and trying to get involved here. The dent he has made in the universe is now huge. And we are incredibly grateful that Lynn took the time to talk to us. Thank you Lynn! Vielen Dank Lynn!

Today we are talking about a project dealing with humanitarian logistics. International Medical Corps won the Lynn C Fritz medal for the Pharmaceutical Information Management System (PIMS) and their efforts to make goods available in very difficult situations all over the world. We are very grateful that three people from International Medical Corps agreed to talk about the digitalization of the pharmaceutical supply chain and the last mile, but also about their organization and the topics they deal with. The PIMS is a technical solution to help getting an overview about where goods are available and where they are needed. It was built to work in the field under very harsh conditions and it effects thousands of lifes. It serves medics and staff that act according to their claim "First There, No Matter Where." Thank you for your time Shelley, Mohammed and Yazeed. It was an honor talking to you! Best wishes for your future plans.
The Russo-Ukrainian War is an ongoing international conflict between Russia and Ukraine. At times such as these, medical training is essential and sometimes required of laypersons. International Medical Corps partnered with the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI) to provide comprehensive emergency and trauma care training to healthcare workers, public safety professionals, and the Ukrainian community. Course Coordinator Kevin Collopy and Instructor Brock Jenkins, live from AMTC23, join us for an eye-opening podcast episode where we discuss their role in this mission and the personal experiences motivating them to continue their efforts. Healthcare needs vary the world over, and for many people, accessibility is the number one challenge - especially when disaster strikes. International Medical Corps is a large organization, with a current presence in 30 countries and a staff of about 8,000. While most of their team is local to each country, the emergency response unit is comprised of just 20 people, each with expertise in a certain field – including logistics. In this episode of Logistics with Purpose, Ronny Elfassy, Deputy Director, Emergency Response Operations at International Medical Corps, joins hosts Enrique Alvarez and Kristi Porter to discuss his field experience and the important role that logistics plays in their disaster response operations.Additional Links & Resources:Learn more about Logistics with Purpose: https://supplychainnow.com/program/logistics-with-purposeLearn more about Vector Global Logistics: https://vectorgl.com/Subscribe to Logistics with Purpose: https://logistics-with-purpose.captivate.fm/listenThis episode was hosted by Enrique Alvarez and Kristi Porter. Millions of people around the world go to bed hungry every night. It is an appalling fact, especially in a world where billions of tonnes of food is wasted every year. There are few places on Earth, if any, were hunger is more of a critical issue than in Somalia, East Africa. Malnutrition is rife in the country, which has been beset by drought and conflict. Government officials warn Somalia is on the brink of famine. In this episode of the Food Matters Live podcast, we meet the people who are working tirelessly to stop hunger, in Somalia and elsewhere in the world. Action Against Hunger works in more than 50 countries around the world, providing life-saving programmes and helping millions of people. But how does an organisation like this go about helping so many people? The Love Food Give Food Campaign Action Against Hunger UK's Love Food Give Food campaign brings together the food and hospitality industry and their customers to take action against hunger. Through our shared love of food, we can fight the hunger crisis and help vulnerable communities to build a brighter future. Just £1 can provide a mother with a day's worth of life saving therapeutic food to treat a malnourished child. In September and October, you can support our life-saving work by donating on Action Against Hunger's website or at one of the restaurants participating in the campaign. It's time for a Collider Ladies Night bucket list guest! With The Thing About Pam in the midst of its run on NBC (and streaming on Hulu), Judy Greer took the time to join Perri for an extended interview. The Thing About Pam is based on the true story of Pam Hupp, played by Renee Zellweger. When her best friend Betsy (Katy Mixon) is found dead in her home, Betsy's husband Russ (Glenn Fleshler) becomes the prime suspect when all eyes should really be on Pam. However, when prosecutor Leah Askey (Greer) takes the case, her determination to win leaves Pam free and clear to continue manipulating the situation and hatching deadly schemes along the way. It's flat-out impossible to cover Greer's mile-long filmography in a single episode of Collider Ladies Night — or even a fraction of it for that matter. But we did touch on a number of pivotal experiences as she made her way from 1999's Jawbreaker to starring alongside Renee Zellweger in The Thing About Pam. The Russian invasion of Ukraine shocked the world, but this conflict was foreshadowed in Ukrainian and Russian speculative fiction. I talk with several fantasy writers in Ukraine about how they've used speculative fiction to break away from Russia's sphere of influence, and why magic and folklore can be valuable tools to explore and defend their sense of national identity. I also talk with Ukrainian ex-pats in the U.S. about how Russian fantasy and sci-fi has grown increasingly imperialistic in recent years with fantasies of restoring a lost empire. Featuring Maria Galina, Borys Sydiuk, Volodymir Arenev, Svitlana Taratorina, Alex Shvartsman, and Anatoly Belilovsky. You can help donate to organizations resettling refugees like Direct Relief, Mercy Corps, International Medical Corps and Save the Children. This episode is sponsored by Brooklinen. Eric invites the boys over for our first official book club. We're drinking wine, eating gluten free cookies, and playing his first book club selection: Ocean Software's 1991 "classic" (?) Hook. The sleepover antics don't stop there: Eric asks Alex and Matt questions, promptly yells at them, makes everything wonder why we're playing this god-forsaken game based on a Robin Williams movie from 1991, and in the end nearly (almost. not really.) has a cathartic moment. Also: Elden Ring! The Peterpaniverse! Buying games as children! And some real honest-to-goodness conversation about game design. Wouldn't you know it, we walk away appreciating the artistry of our lovely Itch.io developers and their access to game development tools and resources. On that note: our cause this week is The Bundle for Ukraine, on Itch.io. If you haven't purchased it yet, what are you waiting for? Support an important cause during a dire time, play games alongside the podcast, and receive an absolute treasure trove of incredible indie gems. All proceeds from this bundle will be split between the following charities: International Medical Corps provides medical assistance in the region. They have very low fundraising overhead (1% of income), with 89% of donations going to medical aid and 10% to administration. Voices of Children, a Ukrainian organization that helps children cope with the horrors of war, PTSD, readjusting to school, and getting back to being kids. They have also been doing a lot of grassroots impromptu work during the war, such as helping set up shelters. Our hope is that this war will be over soon, and they can begin the work of healing these kids' hearts.

Twitter users…if you've ever taken to Twitter to share details of a mistake you made - for example putting diesel in the petrol tank or salt instead of sugar in your coffee…it could prove to be a lucrative move. We've discovered that Specscavers is going round looking for ‘blunder' Tweets and then paying the original composer of the Tweet if they give permission for Specsavers to turn it into an ad. Dan Beasley Harling, who appeared on the Great British Bake Off a few years ago is one example, with a Tweet he sent back in November about putting instant yeast is in tea. So if you do something similar, don't despair, you might still end up on top. Elsewhere across the internet over the last 24 hours, the world has been marking International Women's Day with celebrations of all things womanhood along with attention being paid to inequality and some of the obstacles many women still encounter as they go about their lives. Some big brands got involved too - some with more success than others - catch up with it all at #internationalwomensday on Twitter and Instagram. Finally, Apple, Facebook, Google, Twitter, IBM and other tech firms are joining the humanitarian mission for the people of Ukraine with donations to relief agencies such as International Medical Corps, International Rescue Committee and Doctors Without Borders.
Kidsave, a Culver City-based nonprofit that has operated in Ukraine since 2016, is currently helping families get to safety following Russia's invasion. International Medical Corps, a nonprofit headquartered in LA, is providing medicines, critical care equipment, and health care personnel to Ukraine as the conflict with Russia continues. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to review Bill Cosby's case, and former Trump lawyer John Eastman faces an ethics investigation. American pianist Ruth Slenczynska, 97, is releasing a new album called “My Life in Music.” She began performing at 4 years old, studied with Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, and has played for multiple U.S. presidents. Low-rise jeans, baby tees, and shrugs from the early 2000s are back. But overweight women were absent from these styles, says freelance writer Jess Sims.
