'Keep digging' with Dice Mayhem's Trucking, growing dump roots to long-term small fleet success

This week's edition of Overdrive Radio is another in our series highlighting contenders for 2025 Trucker of the Year, with Overdrive Senior Editor Matt Cole's talk with Virginia-headquartered two-truck straight dump owner-operator business Dice Mayhem's Trucking, headed up by owner-operator Hunter Hubbard and her husband, Tim. Hunter's just about six years into truck ownership herself, her husband a good bit longer, yet clearly she's harnessed a quality that current reigning Trucker of the Year Alan Kitzhaber sees in all successful people when it comes to business. As he put earlier this year in his “Plan for better business,” authored for our Overdrive Extra blog, “99.9% of success is desire.” That is, those who have a clear case of the want-tos, ultimately, probably will do whatever it is they set out to accomplish: https://www.overdriveonline.com/15712314 Cue Hunter Hubbard's own advice for any aspiring truck owner when it comes to success in business for themselves. "If you have your mind set to do it, go for it. Nothing's stopping you but yourself, and the worst thing you can do is fail. But at the end of the day, nobody wants to fail. You're going to figure it out one way or another." Some days will be awful, but "you'll sit back a month down the road, two months down the road, and be like, 'that was rough, but hey we're still here.' You just gotta keep digging on it." As she well acknowledges, challenges will present themselves day-in, day-out, but those who keep digging will get through to the other side. Clearly, Hubbard herself has been one of those sorts these last years in business. "I might be a little stubborn sometimes," she said. She and Tim have built a steady base of customers for their two-truck straight dump business in and around their Virginia home base, weathering an array of their own customer challenges in recent years when a buyout of one of their main customers and integration of the two business left their own trucking company in an uncertain position for hauling work, given the company's small size. Last year, she pivoted to a certain extent, with purchase of an older Peterbilt tractor, utilizing mechanical prowess with a new shop, too, to get it in working order and standing up a new, one-truck business for livestock hauling regionally: Dice Logistics. Yet dump work remains the Hubbards' bread and butter, and the seasonality of both businesses continues to inspire the occasional second-guessing of their commitment to niche specialization. They could be hauling food, which always has to run, Hubbard notes, telling her story to Cole in this episode. They could be, that is, but "I didn't really choose that route. Everything's seasonal, everything depends on the weather," she said. "You just wait it out." They're doing more than just waiting, that's sure. In celebration of Women's History Month, this week on the Access Hour, we are sharing two book launch events by amazing female historians that were held recently at the Filson Historical Society in Old Louisville! First up, we'll take you back to February 25, 2025, when the Filson hosted the book launch for Jessica K. Whitehead's insightful new text, "Driftwood: The Life of Harlan Hubbard." Jessica offers remarks on her comprehensive biography of the writer, artist, and sustainability pioneer Harlan Hubbard (1900-1988) and the deep impact Harlan and his wife, Anna, have had on Kentucky's culture. Whitehead's book delves into Hubbard's family background, education, and relationships, and into his theories on art, writing, music, and philosophy. Using journals, letters, paintings, manuscripts, and sketches, Whitehead pieces together the distinct phases of Hubbard's life, providing new insights into his character and legacy. Following the remarks, members of the NouLou Chamber Players, Heather Thomas (violin) and Cecilia Huerta-Lauf (cello), join with pianist Sebastian Chang in the world premiere of composer Daniel Gilliam's “Piano Trio No. 2: Payne Hollow.” This exciting new piece of music, written by Gilliam in conjunction with the book launch celebrates the Hubbards' vision of living and working on their own terms. The trio also honors the Harlan and Anna Hubbards' deep love of classical music performance—showcasing the instruments they once played: piano, cello, and violin. Jessica K. Whitehead, writer and curator of collections at the Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville, is author of "The History of the Kentucky Derby in 75 Objects" and a contributor to "The Watercolors of Harlan Hubbard: From the Collection of Bill and Flo Caddell." Daniel Gilliam is a composer from Louisville, KY. He is also the program director, and an announcer, on 90.5 WUOL Classical Louisville. Watch a recording of the evening and see the musical performance and images referenced at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BucL0S6vD94. Following that, we'll hear from another amazing historian, Eliza McGraw, who spoke at the Filson Historical Society on March 6, 2025 about her brand new book, "Astride: Horses, Women, and a Partnership That Shaped America." In the book, Eliza weaves together stories of women who pioneered in worlds such as Thoroughbred breeding, the circus, and horse rescue at a time when American women in general internalized the lessons of horsewomen: take chances, take up more space, and learn to get back on. From tamers to caretakers and performers to teachers, all worked with horses to buck the status quo. Expressing the idea of femininity with athleticism and authority, these trailblazers changed the way America understood women. Richly illustrated with period photographs, Astride demonstrates that even small changes can advance the fight for progress. Eliza McGraw is the Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award–winning author of "Here Comes Exterminator! The Longshot Horse, the Great War, and the Making of an American Hero" and a contributing writer for EQUUS magazine. Watch a full recording and see the slides at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1HKDSSs3-4 The Access Hour airs on Forward Radio, 106.5fm, WFMP-LP Louisville, every Wednesday at 2pm and repeats Thursdays at 11am and Fridays at 1pm. On this week's show, your host, Justin Mog, floats up river to a special place on the banks of the Ohio River with Jessica Whitehead & David Wicks, two Board members of Payne Hollow on the Ohio (https://www.paynehollowontheohio.org/), a new non-profit organization whose mission is to sustainably preserve the structures and land at Payne Hollow in Trimble County, Kentucky, as a means to protect and promote the legacy of Harlan and Anna Hubbard. On October 14th, they announced that the organization met its Phase I fundraising goal and officially closed on the property. With gratitude to all of its Founding Partners, Payne Hollow on the Ohio is now ready to begin its next phase of fundraising and mission-driven work. The organization is seeking donors from the community who will be able to support the vital and ongoing preservation and restoration of the structures, land, and artifacts at Payne Hollow. Harlan Hubbard (1900-1988) was considered by many to be a modern-day Thoreau. Hubbard is widely beloved for his writing and art, but he and his wife, Anna Hubbard, captivated the public imagination when, after years of living on a shantyboat, they settled down in Payne's Hollow–later shortened by Harlan to “Payne Hollow” along the banks of the Ohio River. There they built a charming, bespoke homestead where they lived for thirty-five years. The Hubbards spent their days living sustainably–foraging, fishing, gardening, chopping wood, as well as writing, artmaking, and playing music. They were unique in twentieth-century life, choosing a life of quiet solitude, foregoing electricity and running water, shunning modern tools and amenities, all to live “on the fringe of society.” When the Hubbards died in the 1980s, Paul Hassfurder, a friend and fellow artist, inherited and maintained the property. Now that responsibility has passed to Payne Hollow on the Ohio, an organization which seeks to honor the Hollow's former owners by tirelessly bringing the land and structures back to their former glory. To learn more about Payne Hollow on the Ohio's goals, work, team, and future, or to make a donation to our ongoing projects, visit https://www.paynehollowontheohio.org or follow them on Facebook and Instagram @paynehollowontheohio. Donations and gifts of any amount will help Payne Hollow on the Ohio meet its Phase II fundraising goals. They can be made through the website or via check. Due to the severe topography, habitat concerns, historical landmarks, and management, access to Payne Hollow on the Ohio is by permission only. Guided tours and events on the property will be announced in the coming months, and property access will be limited to those events. Talking with Barrel Culture and Une Année/ Hubbard's Cave at one of the Southeast's best beer fests Recently one of the best beer festivals in the Southeast descended on Atlanta, GA (OK, technically Chamblee).  I'm sure I'm a bit biased with it being on my home turf, but when you have nearly 70 highly regarded breweries from around the country bring out their best IPAs, Sours, Stouts, Pilsners, and Meads it's going to be a great party.  In addition to Barrel Culture and Une Année/ Hubbard's Cave, breweries like Carton, Civil Society, Horus, Old Nation, and The Answer were also pouring.  Blue Pants even had a Pilsner on slow pour, and if you're a regular listener you know we're loving that right now. Barrel Culture's head brewer Paul Wasmund joined us to talk about what's coming up at their brewery.  One of Wasmund's goals when joining Barrel Culture in late 2018 was to introduce clean beers alongside their delicious sour beers, which they launched just before the festival.  Wasmund also talks about the addition of spontaneously fermented beers and brett Saisons, and we get his thoughts on superheroes. Jerry Nelson, the founder of Hubbard's Cave and Une Année, has quite a story.  He initially launched Une Année with a focus on classic Belgian Ales, but consumers didn't want classic Belgian Ales.  Coupled with a few other hurdles, his brewery nearly went bankrupt.  Nelson decided to create a new identity in Hubbard's Cave to offer more popular beer styles.  Soon, he'll open a new brewery in Niles, IL.  In a development with a replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.  No kidding. None of this would have been possible without the hard work of the guys from distributor Modern Hops.  Partners Philip Barnes and Michael Lowenberg (pictured bottom center in the above photo) talk about their unique approach to beer distribution and how they made the festival happen, as well as their support for the Georgia Transplant Foundation with the event's proceeds. Doubtless, they will someday say, “Inspired by Roycroft and Bohemian Grove, Pennie and Roy Williams built Wizard Academy…”But they will be wrong. Yes, the Princess and I – with the help of hundreds of good friends around the world – began constructing the Wizard Academy campus in 2004. The “wrong” part is that we were inspired by Roycroft and Bohemian Grove. This error is forgivable, however, because jumping to conclusions is what makes us humans so adorable.Elbert Hubbard was a marketer whose magazine, The Philistine, was read by subscribers around the world 120 years ago. Likewise, my Monday Morning Memos and the e-zines of Indiana Beagle are read by subscribers around the world. But Elbert Hubbard did not inspire me to become a marketer or to write these Monday Morning Memos. And I'm pretty sure Indy Beagle wanders http://www.mondaymorningmemo.com/rabbithole/ (the rabbit hole) for reasons of his own, as well. Elbert Hubbard published a book on advertising but I did not write my Wizard of Ads trilogy because of him. Elbert and his wife, Alice, began building the Roycroft Campus as a writer's and artist's enclave in East Aurora, New York, in 1895. But Pennie had never heard of the Hubbards or their Roycroft Campus when she decided to build Wizard Academy. I know this to be true. I was there. Yet there are definite similarities between our organizations. Wizard Academy bridges the gap between business and the arts. Like the Roycrofters before us, we celebrate the study of the arts for the furtherance of business.*San Francisco's Bohemian Club began constructing Bohemian Grove in 1878. The “Bohemians” in those days were writers and artists. But business people wanted to hang out with them and were immediately attracted to the club. Oscar Wilde attended The Grove in 1882. Afterwards, he said, “When bankers get together they talk about art. When artists get together, they talk about money.” Think of the annual encampment at Bohemian Grove as the original TED Conference. An invitation to The Grove remains the hardest of all tickets to obtain. Security is incredibly tight. The guests invited to Bohemian Grove today are Nobel Prize winners, top-tier artists and authors, Senators, and Fortune 500 CEOs. Interestingly, Wizard Academy attracts many of these same people, but on a smaller scale. The official motto of The Bohemian Club is a line taken from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, “Weaving Spiders Come Not Here.” It means, “Business deals and any thoughts of ‘networking' are to be left outside. This is a place of escape.” Like Bohemian Grove, Wizard Academy is a place of escape, renewal, and inspiration for people who wrestle with giants.Do you have a dream, an enterprise, a mission, a purpose that occupies your heart and hands and mind? Come. You have a tribe. Hang out with us. You will be a stronger wrestler when you leave. Roy H. Williams

Noah Oldham's church: http://augustgate.com/ Principles and Practices of Church Planter Coaching free ebook: https://www.namb.net/send-network-blog/sending-well-principles-and-practices-of-church-planter-coaching Introduction: Thank you for joining us on the Coaching Podcast. As part of the Send Network, we are passionate about equipping church planters to live out the call God has placed on their lives. Join us as we talk through healthy coaching practices and why every church planter needs one. Here's your host, Dino Senesi. Dino Senesi: Welcome to the Send Network Coaching Podcast. My name is Dino Senesi, and I'm the director of coaching for the Send Network, and today, I have a guest from St. Louis. His name is Noah Oldham. Now, Noah is a utility player. Now you know I'm going to segue into baseball, right? He's a utility player in the kingdom because he's a Send City Missionary, and that's part of his role, and the other part of his role is that he is a church planter and pastor of a multi-campus church in St. Louis, August Gate Church. Welcome, Noah, to the podcast. Noah Oldham: Thanks Dino. Appreciate you having me. Dino Senesi: Yeah man, and so let's talk Cardinals. What are you thinking? What's it going to look like this year because at least now, we're in March, so we're thinking baseball, right? Noah Oldham: Ah man, yeah. I think the Cardinals always kind of look middle of the pack strong, even when we've been the best in the division or ended up best in the division, but folks are pretty depressed right now. We just had a pitcher that we offered money to, and he took $5 million less to go to another city- Dino Senesi: Ouch. Noah Oldham: So that he could win, so I think that people are a little bit down in the dumps right now. Dino Senesi: Well let me tell you, as a baseball fan, I've never been anti-Cardinal, but I've been a Reds fan and a Braves fan, and so great deal of respect for a great organization, and yes, many years, you have looked like middle of the pack, and you've come out with a World Series on those years, so be encouraged. You can do it without what's-his-name, so very good. What's one place I need to eat in St. Louis the next time I come? Noah Oldham: I'm not sure if you've eaten there already. I may have pushed you this direction, but Bailey's Range. It's a restaurant at 10th and Olive downtown. It's a St. Louis original restaurant. The owner, Bailey, everything he touches turns to gold. It's a craft burger, craft milkshake place, all locally sourced, in-house baked goods. It's an amazing place. Dino Senesi: Wow. You’re making me hungry. Yeah, so very good. We went to a good place last time we were there with your coaches, your existing coaches. We got some good food. Do you remember where that was? Noah Oldham: Man, I don't. Oh yeah, we went to Tuckers. It was steak house. Dino Senesi: Oh dude. That was some good grub right there. So, it was very good. What is your wife's name? Noah Oldham: My wife's name is Heather. Dino Senesi: Yeah, Heather. And I met Heather at either a Send Conference or ... I think it was a Send Conference at Long Beach. So I met her, but how's everything with Heather? Noah Oldham: It's great. She's busy these days. She's the pastor's ... The planter wife care advocate here in St. Louis, and she homeschools our four children, and she's a lead pastor's wife, and so she does a tremendous amount. She's busy, but she's thriving. She's doing well. Dino Senesi: Wow. And she is busier than you, and you're a utility player. Noah Oldham: That's right. That's right. She keeps it all together here. Dino Senesi: Very good. What's something your family loves to do in St. Louis together? Noah Oldham: We love to hit up some of the free spots in St. Louis. St. Louis is known to be one of the most budget-friendly, family cities. We got a world renown zoo that's absolutely free, and so we like to hit that up. We like to go to Cardinal's baseball games. We like to spend together. Since we homeschool, we enjoy our time together, and so we try to do a weekly family worship with the kids, break out musical instruments. Some of them dance. We put music on YouTube on the TV and just let loose for Jesus. It's a lot of fun. Dino Senesi: That sounds so cool. Appreciate your family. Appreciate Heather, and I know that's something that's vitally important to what's going on in your world, so I appreciate you as well, my friend. I want to talk about coaching in St. Louis. Obviously, this is a coaching podcast. I'm just a curious guy, and I love big cities and what God's doing in those cities, but we'll just talk about church planter coaching. You gave us a longer story in a previous podcast, but coaching ... There's a personal meaning to coaching to you. Could you give us a thumbnail of that story? Noah Oldham: Yeah. The story goes that we had a miscarriage, early in the life of our church after years of infertility, and then getting pregnant on our own, we lost a baby in the middle of the pregnancy, we were just alone, and we were crushed. It was in that season of life, when we felt like we had no one to turn to that my coach pursued me deeper in conversation and deeper in relationship in the midst of our coaching relationship, and through that, brought his wife into the situation to help care for my wife, and they became some of the most dear people to us. Again, I always say, if it wasn't for the Hubbards, we might not be in ministry today. Dino Senesi: Yeah, yeah. It's really a great story. I would surely recommend to our listeners, if you did not hear the previous podcast, you could find it on the Send Network Coaching page, and you'd love to hear the details as how God used Mike Hubbard as a shepherd coach to walk alongside and shepherd the soul of Noah and Heather during excruciating circumstances, and it gives you a little bit of different vision of the value of coaching. For some planters, Noah, you know they perceive this as, "Well, this is what NAMB is making me do." Or, "This is what my network's making me do. I got to have a coach. Oh no. I hate it." And when, in reality, a great coach is a gift from God. Noah Oldham: Absolutely. A hundred percent necessary for the life and the health of a planter. Dino Senesi: Yeah, very much so. And so, tell me ... Give me an update. How are things going for church planter coaching in St. Louis? Noah Oldham: It's going really well. St. Louis has always been, since I've been here, at least, a strong city for coaching. When I was going through the planting process nearly a decade ago, immediately the different networks that exist here were all pushing coaching as something that was necessary and helpful and beneficial coaching, but what's been so cool about the last season for St. Louis ... Dino, you brought it to St. Louis, this unified vision for what our coaching can be, and so while we have a couple different state conventions that we work with and local associations, we've been able, through our NAMB Coaching, our Send Network Coaching, to bring one central lane for coaching instead of three or four or five different avenues, and that's been so helpful. We can track coaching better. We know who and who isn't in coaching, and it helps us to find coaches in an easier way as well. Dino Senesi: Yes. Very much. When you think about something that'll last and something that'll grow, there has to be some unity in what does it mean to have a coach, and how often does someone meet with their coach, and what do they talk about. I've been having these conversations, specifically in the NAMB context, for five years, many years before that as well, and it's ... Coaching has been very random across North America. Some guys, like yourself, you had a great, great coaching story, but there was probably three or four guys in St. Louis that didn't have that same opportunity. The sheer numbers get ahead of us, but by having a system that creates a culture, then the number of coaches that know what they're doing and are passionate about what they do, continues to grow as your church planters grow, and then every planter has what they need, which is a great coach. So, what's your biggest challenge right now with church planter coaching? Noah Oldham: We need more coaches. We have had a lot of guys doing a lot of things for years, and we're trying to grow our pool of coaches. Guys that are interested in it, even guys who aren't connected to church planting. We have a lot of guys who are getting coaching who we think are going to be tremendous coaches after this initial season of planting of receiving coaching, but we need to grow our pool, and so we're beginning to look even outside our region and even outside our tribe a little bit to get guys that are excited about the process of drawing out these church planters and helping them to flourish as they do it. Dino Senesi: Yes, and definition of coaching, I'm thinking of this too. As you find the coaches, as you train them, as you assign them ... Well, there's two things. I want to address the one at the end, but one of the things that our coach developers, such as your top-level coach developer, Kevin Wright, on your staff, they often say, "My coaches just want to hang out with their guys. There's not that level of intentionality." What are you doing, and what could we do to help move our coaches to being more intentional? Noah Oldham: Well I think one of the number one things is finding that coaching champion. Kevin Wright, our coaching champion, I can't say enough good things about. Not only is he, like you said, he's on my staff, we planted August Gate Metro East together. He leads that gathering for our church, but he's a natural coach. He is so good at it. So when this role became available, and it was placed in front of him, it was just a perfect fit, and so he is reproducing that. He's encouraging that culture. He's reminding people of what coaching is and what coaching isn't, because I think in most of our lives, especially those who played sports, we hear the word coach. We often think more like a mentor. We think like a sports coach as somebody who was really good before, and now that since they've got bad knees, all they do is tell people how to do it, but that's not what we're looking for, and Kevin understands that, and he is creating a culture here that is just exactly what we have needed in this season. Dino Senesi: Well, he is doing an incredible job, and I could attest of that from my seat on the bus, and you're a great team because you have the bigger picture. You have the heart. You have the personal experience that says you really need a coach, and Kevin's doing a great job implementing it, and he really does embody what a great coach is like and how a great coach thinks, so I've seen, even in my own journey, I learned the most about coaching through having a great coach and then through coaching reps. Just getting out there and doing it. Kim Robinson spoke to our team. He used something in a broader context, but it's like, "Get out of the huddle and run some plays." A lot of times, we have coaching huddles, right? Let's train. Let's advance our skills. Let's go to advanced training. Let's go a hundred hours of training. It's like the training can help prepare you to coach, but only coaching can make you a great coach. Reps, reps, reps. And so, you got somebody like Kevin around and others. I know some of your other coaches, and appreciate their passion. Of course, Mike Hubbard, the veteran in your coaching system. A great coach, and so I think that's great for your culture. Now, another thing that I get from coaches is my church planter doesn't want to be coached, and so normally who's listening to this podcast is coaches, but I think what words would you give that planter, maybe that's words this coach is going to pick up and give to a planter to help them really want to be coached or be coachable? What are some words of encouragement you'd give there? Noah Oldham: Yeah, we just try to give testimonials. We walk a planter through the process. We really don't make coaching optional. We don't force it on them either, but we tell them, "Here is what NAMB is giving to you. This is what we're going to provide for you." And we just tell the story in a compelling way how this is how coaching can help you and benefit you. We frame it, and we shape it as the gift that it is instead of a jumping through hoops, and we've had a couple guys who have gone through that who feel like they don't necessarily need it, and when that happens, I generally have a one-on-one conversation with them, and I ask them this question: "Have I ever asked you to do something that's a waste of your time?" Dino Senesi: Wow. Noah Oldham: And thanks be to God, they usually say, "No. Absolutely not. Everything you've asked me to do or told me I need to do has been really beneficial." Coaching is even more important than that. And so this is going to be good, and we're going to get you the right coach too. So I think that's necessary. If you have a system where you're matching guys up in a relationship that's going to be beneficial, a guy taste it just a little bit, he's going to be sold on it, and so I just tell a guy, "Trust me, and let's move forward in this together." Dino Senesi: Yeah, that's good. Match-ups are important. Getting the right match-ups. Creating the right culture, which you guys have done, and it really does take time, and so building a coaching culture in most cities, although St. Louis had the benefit of having a longer history of coaching, it takes a while. It takes a few people going through a coaching cycle, those informal conversations that a person coached has, that's worth a hundred points on a zero scale to say ... It just takes one of those from somebody like you with leadership cred that says, "Trust me. This is going to help you." Noah Oldham: One of the other cool things too, Dino, is that in our process, after we do the one-day coaching map, we do peer-to-peer coaching for a few months, and I have grown so much in peer-to- peer coaching, and so I'm able to tell planters that as well. Like, "I've gone through coaching, and here's the ways that it's benefiting me. You want to do this." Dino Senesi: Yes. And at least in our process practicing, Keith Webb says that when you have follow up practice to do after training, the results go up 300%. I would scare to think about what our results would be without peer coaching, and that's where we take two participants, two coaches that are going to be deployed within 60 to 90 days, we let them practice for a couple of months together. We even look in on them and give them some feedback because we don't want it to be okay coaching. Our target is for it to be great coaching, and so those relationships help prepare them for their planter. We want the planter to get the best possible coach they could get. So, that's another word too. If we've got crummy coaching in our city, we're kidding ourselves when we're trying to talk a planter into having one. Noah Oldham: Right. Right. Dino Senesi: So, hey Noah, I appreciate it. This is a lot of value, I think, for our listeners today, and if you'll check our show notes, you'll be able to see a link to August Gate Church, a link to our Send Network Coaching page, and even a way to get access to more podcasts than just this one. The podcast is focused on helping coaches become great coaches, so we appreciate you listening. We appreciate your feedback, and Noah, thank you for the update on the St. Louis Cardinals, but even more important, for church planter coaching in St. Louis. Noah Oldham: Thanks for having me, Dino. Dino Senesi: That's awesome. Until the next time, keep coaching. Speaker 1: You have been listening to The Coaching Podcast, a resource of the North American Mission Board. Life on Fire TV (Audio) – Online Business Coaching With Nick Unsworth

Hey hey! Welcome to episode 226 of Life on Fire. Today we've got a unique show for you! Instead of Nick or a guest of Nick's, I am here: the first lady of Life on Fire, Megan Unsworth. I'm sharing my very first experience preaching at our church, C3. The preach is called I Am Worthy and it is my personal testimony of finding God. Today's show is about how this experience literally changed the course of my life and how you can find your own purpose, and worthiness too. It's all here on episode 226 of Life on Fire! In this episode you'll hear: Why the people you surround yourself with matter so much. (2:15) The difference between being a “checkmark Christian” and a Christian. (2:30) How do you know you are worthy? (4:30) How to have love in your heart and peace of mind. (6:50) Who will bless you far more than you ever thought possible? (8:30) And so much more! More About This Show At 24 I was in a direct sales jewelry company that was Christian-based. At their rallies and monthly meetings they talked openly about God and His love. I was open-minded and curious so I asked one of the leaders of my group if I could attend church with them. The leader said yes and I attended church for the next few months. One Sunday they did altar call and with a fast-beating heart I raised my hand and accepted God into my life. But here's the kicker: I thought of myself as “Christian”, but I wasn't fully living a Christina life. I had one foot in the kingdom and one foot in real life, and by one foot in the kingdom I mean one pinky toe! The people I was surrounded by didn't serve me, and I knew it but I hadn't fully committed my life over to God yet. So I went to church every Sunday, and that was it. It was like a "checkmark" - I wasn't with God the rest of the week. Instead, I sought man's approval. I was the girl who always had to be in a relationship. When one ended I went right into another one. The reason I was doing that was my abandonment issues: my father committed suicide when I was 8 and my mother left when I was only 3 months old. After my father died I was raised by my grandparents and aunts and uncles. It was a great life but that little girl who lost her parents so young still longed for relationships. I sought that out in romantic relationships. I ended up in relationships that didn't always serve me and I didn't always serve them; it reached a breaking point when I heard the words I don't love you and I never will. My confidence was so low at that point, it was rock bottom for me. Until I found C3 through the Hubbards. I saw their marriage and how God was at the center of it all; I was inspired by it, and vowed to have the same in my life. Ever since that day - four years ago - I have been in attendance at C3! Shortly after meeting the Hubbards and joining C3, I went to a Cherish conference. The pastor prophesied over me and told me I am a child of God. God is my Father and He loves me, He wants me to stay on the path and not do things on my own. He loves me unconditionally and will show me the way. In that moment I finally understood I had a father, and a daddy in heaven who will never forsake me. I knew I had found my worthiness, God made no mistakes when He created me or any of us. He saved me from a downward spiral and I regained my self-worth through Christ. And that is my message for you too: you are worthy. Through God you are saved from your enemies, including yourself! Those negative thoughts, the comparisons and the not-good-enough moments, they can creep into your future. God created you to be bigger, dream bigger and have a vision that He created for your life. God has not given you a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, love, and sound mind. God doesn't want any of us to live in fear, He wants us to live with the power of the Holy Spirit. To have love in our hearts and peace in our minds. Once I understood that and reclaimed my worthiness through Him, I declared I would find the love of my life. I started praying for him and God brought me Nick. On Sept 18, 2015 we were married and have surrendered it all to God: our life, marriage, business, finances, and family. Life isn't always easy for us but with God there is always an ease. I am now more on purpose than I have ever been in my life and I will forever praise God for that. I knows I am worthy of love, abundance and a life God has called me to and so are you. Like our beautiful son Aidan, who was born six weeks early but is perfect and blessed in every way, you too are a child of God. Hear about our journey with Aidan and more on this episode of Life on Fire.  EPISODE RESOURCES   C3 Church Life on Fire Subscribe to Life on Fire TV Podcast Write a Review on iTunes
