Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of July 28, 2023. Fans of Disney's Haunted Mansion ride will probably love the latest “Haunted Mansion” movie, but what about Non-Disney fans? It's a tougher sell. There is a highly fictionalized movie about the people behind the Beanie Babies craze in the 1990s called "The Beanie Bubble". (Spoiler: Ty Toys does not come off well.) A Sundance 2023 film hits wide release, “Theater Camp,” starring Ben Platt, and is full of funny moments and characters. On Netflix, there are two new movies this week “Happiness For Beginners,” based on the book of the same name, about Ellie Kemper's character going to re-center herself on an extended backpacking trip; and younger kids are beside themselves excited to watch “Miraculous Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie.” Also available to watch, a new horror movie called “Talk To Me” that's pretty terrifying and dark, a hyper-violent comedic action series on PeacockTV based on the “Twisted Metal” video game series, and a reunion movie of the mid-2000's show “Zoey101” cast called “Zoey 102” on ParamountPlus. Experts from The Marshall Project and Lakeith's legal team unpack the systemic issues within these laws. We then pivot to an insightful discussion on the evolving perceptions of Black masculinity, with thoughts from Tyler James Williams, Dr. Jeff Gardere, and others. The show later investigates the unfulfilled promises of major corporations to invest in Black-owned media. Hey Breakdown Crew! We've been rocking together now for over 4 years and have gotten SO MUCH good done together. Today is one of those days where I need each of us to show up, OK? Have you heard the name LaKeith Smith? When he was just a 15 year old boy, police shot and killed his best friend, but prosecutors then went and charged LaKeith, who they openly admit was unarmed and non-violent, with his murder. It's an abomination. I already hate the felony murder rule, but I have NEVER seen it applied in this outrageous fashion. LaKeith was then sentenced to nearly 70 years in prison after police shot and killed his friend. And I have promised his dear mother, Tina, that we would raise enough money for her to take off of work for the next year so that she can fight full time to get her son free. Please, go now to my Instagram page, and CLICK THE LINK IN MY BIO to chip in. We're already past 50% of the goal but predict we need 1,800 more donors to cross the finish line. Let's do this! To listen to today's FULL EPISODE of The Breakdown go now to Apple Podcasts or Spotify and search for “The Breakdown with Shaun King.” Subscribe there for FREE and listen to the whole podcast. If you are already on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, please subscribe, listen, share, leave reviews, and listen daily to the entire episode. The more of it you listen to, the better it is for us. In 2015, a police officer shot and killed LaKeith Smith's friend, A'Donte Washington, during a burglary gone wrong. But years later, LaKeith is the one behind bars for murder. LaKeith was originally given a sentence of 65-years, after beingc onvicted of burglary, theft, and something called felony murder. In certain criminal cases, the felony murder rule allows a person to be charged with murder even if they're not the one who did the killing. Experts say it's a legal charge that disproportionately hurts young, Black and brown men. In a March resentencing hearing, a judge ruled that LaKeith's sentences could be served concurrently, thus reducing his overall time; but LaKeith's family and supporters were still left heartbroken, because even with this reduction, he's facing a 30-year sentence.Trymaine Lee spoke to LaKeith's mother, Tina Smith, about her family's continued fight for justice. And we talked to lawyer Leroy Maxwell and activist Daniel Forkkio, along with Andre Washington, the father of A'Donte Washington, about what true justice for his son would look like. “For Us Therapeutic” Episode 163 In this interview, I sat down with Brian and Lakeith Sutton, brothers and co-owners of “For Us Therapeutic” and we had an amazing conversation about mental health. We discussed their story and upbringing and why they got into the mental health field. Additionally, we talk about how therapy should be a part of everyone's healing process. We also talked about how context, around the situation we are talking about, is one of the most important things. Often people talk and have conversations without context and it does not always work out. This was a super dope conversation. Listen and enjoy! Brian and Lakeith's Story: We are Brian and LaKeith Sutton, two brothers born and raised in Washington, DC. We are two Black male therapists looking to support our community. We strive to provide quality professional care to the community through our efforts and our team of Black therapists. We grew up in SE DC, in Section 8 housing, and managed to overcome many obstacles to do what we love. We took two separate paths to reach the same goal. That goal is the empowerment and betterment of the Black community through mental health services. We noticed that there are not many Black people in mental health, especially Black men. Our primary purpose is to provide our culture and community with people who can help that come from the same community that looks just like them. Allow us to be there for you when you need it the most. Time is the currency of life, so take some of it for healing and thriving.

Ro & Kriss are back to review and discuss the last three episodes of season 2 of Snowpiercer. As usual, Layton is showing how out of his depth he is when it comes to being in charge of Snowpiercer. Part of that could be that there really hasn't been any time for Layton or the people of Snowpiercer to catch their breath since the war to take the train. But it's also because Layton is hard headed and doesn't want to listen to anyone, particularly women. Melanie tried to help him and tell him that he needs to keep Ruth in the loop and to not lie to her but he then immediately goes about shutting Ruth out. That leads to her to go to Zarah and well, she's a whole ass Lakeith right now (for that reference listen to our Judas & the Black Messiah review). There's a lot of moving parts going on and while Layton thinks he's on top of it all, it's clear he's being outmaneuvered. He's also not listening to Bess who he made train Detective about the fact that there are clearly dangerous Wilford loyalists on Snowpiercer. Again, more proof that Layton doesn't listen to women. Or at least, not the right ones. We're enjoying this season so far but we do have some gripes. We don't think they needed to go as far as they did with Wilford and Audrey. It was pretty reckless and unnecessary. Also this season is oddly paced. Like the last season of The Expanse, this season is focusing more on politics (which is really relevant) but the episodes feel more conducive to watching in 2 or 3 episode chunks versus episode by episode.
