BREAK: CU of GA STORY 1: Judge Extends Deadline for New Cobb School Board Map A federal judge, Eleanor Ross, has extended the deadline for the Georgia General Assembly to pass a new Cobb County Board of Education map to January 22. The initial deadline was January 10, which legislators, including Rep. Teri Anulewicz and Sen. Ed Setzler, argued was impossible to meet. Both lawmakers have proposed different maps, but Ross rejected the previous map in December. The Cobb County School District has appealed Ross's decision to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Setzler is moving forward with Senate Bill 338, his new school board map, despite calls for compromise among legislators. STORY 2: Abby Smith Named Executive Director of Marietta Arts Council Abby Smith has been appointed as the new executive director of the Marietta Arts Council, succeeding Bonnie Buckner Reavis, who will assume the position of chair of the council's board. Smith, previously the secretary and board chair for the Marietta Arts Council, aims to advance the organization's mission of enriching the artistic and cultural landscape of Marietta. In addition to her new role, Smith will continue as the manager of the Marietta Visitors Bureau, promoting the city as a tourism destination. In less than two weeks, the Florida State Seminoles will open their 2023 season against the LSU Tigers in Orlando. It's the second time in as many years the two will face off against each other, but the stakes feel much different this go around. Tennessee football is out of College Football Playoff contention after a blowout loss to South Carolina, and Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker is no longer a Heisman Trophy frontrunner after he got outplayed by Spencer Rattler. Worse, Hooker suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the fourth quarter, ending his special season and his college career. With Hooker falling out of the Heisman debate, does the SEC still have a chance to produce a Heisman winner for the fourth straight season? Jerrell Powe, an all-time Rebel football great, will never be able to bring himself to pick against Ole Miss.But even Powe recognizes the challenge the Rebels face on Saturday, when they host Alabama at 2:30 p.m. CT on CBS. While the Crimson Tide isn't the same dominant force it's been for almost two decades, Bryce Young and Co. aren't a great matchup for Ole Miss.The Rebels have struggled with mobile quarterbacks all year (LSU's Jayden Daniels put five total touchdowns on them in their only loss of the year), and Young, a former Heisman Trophy winner, is inarguably one of the best in the country.“We struggle against guys that have mobility,” Powe said, in this edition of Powe Corner, in association with Talk of Champions. “This guy, he can beat you in the pocket or he can get outside the pocket and beat you. We're going to have our hands full.“We've got to get him off the spot. If we can find a way to get Bryce Young off the spot and contained and those guys do a good job on the back end, we've definitely got a chance. But we're definitely going to have to outscore them. The offense can't make any mistakes. LSU's Jayden Daniels is, statistically, the most effective scrambling quarterback in the country.The exact kind of quarterback Ole Miss has struggled with all season.Actually, just last week, the Rebels had few answers for a similar, if lesser, quarterback. Robby Ashford combined for 210 yards of offense and four touchdowns in a closer-than-it-should-have-been 48-34 Ole Miss win.He wasn't the only one. Braylon Braxton replaced injured Tulsa starter Davis Brin last month and posted 122 total yards, including 39 rushing, most of which came on improvised plays with his legs. Ole Miss won 35-27. The Rebels (7-0, 3-0 SEC) have matched the 2014 team for the best start to a season since the 60s. Coincidentally, Ole Miss suffered their first loss in its eighth game at LSU.How can these Rebels avoid a similar fate? Scared No. 2, LSU's pass rush is incredible, and Jaxson Dart's been pressured on a third of his drop-backs this year. I know he's not sacked very much, but they're going to take him out of rhythm, more than likely, on these pass plays. “Scared No. 3, Tiger Stadium.
