Ian Fee was immersed in a culture that celebrated excessive drinking from an early age. He had his first sip of alcohol as a toddler, was a bartender at 13, and attributed his business success to martini lunches and wining and dining his clients. Yet he found the courage and determination to make a conscious choice to embrace sobriety without sacrificing the enjoyment of life. Almost 20 years ago I wrote a book called 10 Ways To Make It Great!, about some of the things you could do to take control of your life and create (make) the life you were living (it) better (great). The title of the book came from the 10 chapters and this idea - and naturally, I included one additional chapter about going the extra mile, because why the heck not? Anyway, I decided to upload the book to Google Notebook LM and see what it would create for an audio excerpt of the book. It turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. Here's what Google Notebook LM had to say about what it created:This collection of excerpts from Phil Gerbyshak's book, "10 Ways to Make It Great!", offers practical advice and actionable steps for personal and professional growth. Gerbyshak encourages readers to take control of their lives and make choices that lead to greatness rather than simply having a "nice" day. The text covers diverse topics including self-discovery through assessments, utilizing the 80/20 rule for increased effectiveness, the importance of continuous learning through reading and other methods, and building strong relationships. The author also emphasizes the significance of recharging and reflecting, finishing what you start, and consistently going the extra mile to achieve goals and make a positive impact.I hope you enjoy it. And you're welcome to buy 10 Ways to Make It Great! on Amazon if you want the full version. This is a public episode. Hello Rank Squad! Champions League Takeaway is back to take a look at the second legs of the UCL semi-finals, where we saw Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich 2-1 and Borussia Dortmund win 1-0 in Paris to set up a clash of Yellow and White in London next month! We start with Wednesday's action, with Real Madrid's late, late show yet again to beat out Bayern and send the Bernabeu wild. Dean waxes lyrical about the never-say-die spirit of both the fanbase and this team, whilst Jack pours out some love for Joselu and questions some weird substitutions from Thomas Tuchel that seemed to put his team on the back foot in the closing stages. Then in Part Two, we take a look at Tuesday – where Borussia Dortmund booked their place in the final with a backs-to-the-wall 1-0 win over PSG in Paris. Dean questions whether PSG will ever win this competition, given the roster of stars that have rotated through the French capital and failed, and Jack is impressed with the way that Borussia Dortmund earned their luck, and also a little bit disappointed with how Luis Enrique managed the game from a PSG perspective in the closing stages. We finish with a little discussion about Kylian Mbappé and how his impending departure might have affected the club as a whole this season, as well as what the future might look like without him in Paris. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?

As a studio musician, Brandon has performed on over 100 recordings including Grammy nominated and winning releases by John Mayer, Sugarland and Shawn Mullins. As a member of the multi-platinum-selling rock band Train, Brandon toured the world, indulging in his life-long rock and roll fantasy of performing a keyboard solo on a smoke-emitting Moog synthesizer. These days, in addition to touring with country music mega stars Sugarland, Brandon is a member of the music collective Songs of the Architect where he works as a songwriter, composer and producer on a wide variety of projects including film, TV, gaming and media formats. In recent years, he and his brother Kristian have been collaborators in the original project Dark Water, as well as numerous musical theatre productions with Kristian as composer and Brandon as musical director. In this episode, Brandon talks about: The many responsibilities of being MD for a musical, from the micro (drum notation) to the macro (room tuning) Being self-critical without being self-defeating How taking 16th note interpretation out of the drummer's hands can strengthen a song/groove Defining the word "swing," in conversation and within a song Turning negative feelings (envy, bitterness, regret, etc.) into positive ones (gratitude, admiration, etc.) "Correctness" vs. human-ness in music production

This is the keynote talk "Make it Great" by Joshua Dahn at the Edufuturists Awards 2021. Watch the video of this keynote at https://youtu.be/-s5BBiLCNK4 A full length indepth interview is available with Josh on episode #142 Joshua Dahn is the Executive Director and founder of Astra Nova School in Los Angeles, California. He is a co-founder of Synthesis, a company that brings students together from around the world to learn through complex games. “Six years ago, Elon Musk asked me to start an experimental school with him at SpaceX. The goal was to develop students who are enthralled by complexity and solving for the unknown.” Joshua co-founded Ad Astra School, the predecessor to Astra Nova, with Elon Musk in 2014. Joshua met Elon while teaching his children at Mirman School for highly gifted children in Los Angeles. Ad Astra School was located on the campus of SpaceX for Elon's children and some Space X employee's children. The curriculum at Ad Astra was not that of a typical school. Students learned about artificial intelligence and how to deliver "essentially a TED talk". To encourage entrepreneurship Ad Astra also had its own unit of currency called the "Astra," which the children were able to trade with each other. Joshua explains that "One of the things they do is three times a year there's a marketplace called the Bazaar and at the Bazaar the kids have their own companies essentially." Joshua will be delivering the keynote talk at the Edufuturists Awards 2021 on 2nd July. At the online event, where educators from around the UK are celebrated for their innovative approach to education, Joshua will explain the vision behind Astra Nova and how the future of education must adapt to meet the needs of our changing world. Now we’re (still) all meeting virtually, making virtual events work is a priority, but many organisations have struggled to make them work: it’s particularly an issue when we’re all fried from endless Zoom meetings anyway. This week on Learning Is The New Working, we meet someone who says they know how to fix that, and even gives us the algorithm: an interactive design, a skilled facilitator, prepared participants, equipped to learn. Sound useful to what you’re trying to do? Then check out the guidance and advice you’re about to get from virtual training consultant, facilitator, author and speaker Cindy Huggett. Cindy is convinced that virtual events can be immersive, interactive and engaging—which could also easily be our ‘review’ of this great conversation with a genuine Learning Leader. That’s our thematic season, as you will remember, where we meet new and seasoned leaders from industry, academia, and technology who have made significant contributions to workplace learning, edtech, and talent leadership discipline. And it’s also an episode in Season Five that’s been kindly sponsored by the amazing team at Arist, the pioneer of text message courses that let you teach and train in bite-size chunks that learners love, and whose use cases ranging from leadership training to knowledge reinforcement. So now we’re all set up, get ready to find out about Cindy’s 29 years of professional experience that include leadership roles in global organizations, starting a non-profit focused on volunteering and community service, serving on the national ATD Board of Directors, teaching classroom trainers how to engage with remote audiences and designers how to use typical platform tools to create interactive classes, as well as: why she’s based in North Carolina; her core definition of key virtual training terms (and why they matter); why your assumptions about virtual training were pretty much all wrong pre-2020; how design thinking, interactivity, and tolerance came to the rescue; her views on change in terms of virtual training platform tech; the highlights of her unique annual survey, especially a big drop in content prep time; our new perspective on making the best use of everyone’s time; and much more.
