Our annual 4/20 episode is back, and this year? Good songs only!!! You may be surprised to hear that we were still able to find two good weed-themed winter holiday songs, but indeed: "High on Hanukkah" by Micah E. Wood (featuring Ari Pluznik and Seth Kibel) is an enjoyable ode to holiday paranoia, and "Kushmas" by Smino is... well, surely it's about something, but that's sort of beside the point. The ranking music in this episode is "Sleigh", also by Smino (featuring Monte Booker and Masego)!

Sad Boys For Real! Owner of Classick studios, Chris Classick, slides to PVTSTCK to discuss managing Smino & Monte Booker, starting Classick studios, losing his mom at 18, and learning to let go of things that no longer serve a purpose. In the song, "End Of Youth," Ed Sheeran says, "Is this the ending of our youth when pain starts taking over? / I just don't know if I can ever just let it go / Everything's falling apart, when love is real, there's never closure / I guess it's all part of life, but I can't help but feel low," and this was the reality for Chris. The moment his mother left this earth, his world was turned upside down & sent him into a deep depression. However, throughout this time, there was one thing that saved him & helped him find his reason... music. Music was the thing that healed Chris, and allowed him to express the pain he was going through. Chris' form of expression helped build a reputation that precedes him, and allowed him to help countless artists achieve their own goals. Chris took the darkest moment in his life and found his reason. Also discussed, working on SZA's CTRL album, learning to be a father, music community in Chicago, and

Following a few popular online singles in the previous years, St. Louis artist Smino has been able to establish an audience thanks to his slurred hometown accent and fresh beats made by Chicago producer, Monte Booker. In 2017, He dropped Blkswn, an album that not only had some speaker-worthy bangers, but managed to add a sense of humanity to a city still healing three years after a summer of trauma. The critical success of Blkswn has made Smino a standout in the late 2010s and he continues to grow with the help of new sounds Kenny Beats. Along with our guest Josh (@BlackOrpheus) we choose our top three tracks and discuss Smino's versatility, the rise of Chicago music during the blog era, and how he used an experimental project to let the world know where he's from. I open up about me being molested at age 15, and the importance of fighting for more public policies for Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention. I really hope you all listen to this podcast, and share this. My only hope is to create a space for people like myself to feel safe and ready to combat this and seek help. Chris “Classick” Inumerable discovered his love and talent for music at a young age. The native Chicagoan comes from a musically-inclined family and in 2006 built a small recording studio in his parents’ basement. Chicago being the big small town that it is, his clientele list quickly grew via word-of-mouth. Classick quit his bank job and transferred from DePaul University to Columbia College Chicago to study Audio Arts & Acoustics.creative output from Classick Studios this decade has gone worldwide, with Classick’s studio being the home of some of the biggest releases from the city. Classick now manages two of the brightest talents the city has produced in years: St. Louis native Smino and producer Monte Booker. He’s one of a very small list of Chicagoans who have their finger on the pulse of what’s going on culturally in 2019 and I’m sure you’re going to enjoy this.

Welcome back to Don’t Alert The Stans! For this week’s episode, Eden, Sope and Nicolas are joined by Kadeem Tyrell. A rising R&B singer-songwriter from who released his debut EP ‘Feels’ earlier this year. Thus far, garnering acclaim from Ghetts, Monte Booker and Krept and Konan while amassing over 100k streams. He joins the boys to discuss his journey in the industry to date, what templates he’s taken from Brandy and Aaliyah and why Britain has such a fickle history with R&B music. Elsewhere, much to Nicolas’ chagrin, the guys discuss the latest chapter in Nicki Minaj’s disastrous 2018; being sued by Tracy Chapman. Eden leads an impassioned discussion on the cognitive dissonance surrounding XXXTentacion and his abusive history. Lastly, the boys break down the heavily prevalent culture of intra-racism and colourism in the black diaspora in response to Spice’s controversial ‘Black Hyporcrisy’ stunt. Not one to miss! Full moon vibrations on high this week as we move through a rare blue blood moon eclipse on Wednesday night. I wanted the first and last song to reflect that vibe like bookends. I start to show off with a talent out of Toronto by the name of Joseph Shabason who has recently put out an album full of cosmic textures and noise. Avant-garde is the only way I can describe it! Go find 'Aytche' now!As far as Canadian content for the episode includes Maylee Todd, Merkules, Drake, LNDN DRGS and finishes with one of my favorite songs by the lovely Claire Mortifee. Also on the show are tracks from Monte Booker, AGO, Joyce Wrice, Kendrick Lamar, August Greene, Asal Hazel, Earth Wind & Fire and towards the end of the show I feature a couple tracks from the brand new self-titled Chris Dave album. That FUNK is also scattered throughout the episode, I hope you enjoy and I'll see you next week.
Ravyn Lenae Talks Growing Up On The Southside of Chicago, Touring at Age Fifteen, Working On Her New Record, and Performs “Spice” Live In StudioRavyn Lenae is a phenomenally talented singer from the South Side of Chicago. She's part of Zero Fatigue crew with the likes of rapper Smino, producer Monte Booker, and others. Consequently, her sound has a familial feel next to her musical comrades. Her angelic falsetto, story telling lyrics, and the chosen bouncy on-beat-off-beat rhythms create a soulful dreamscape of every song.A wunderkind of sorts, Ravyn has been a standout since childhood solos at church. By high school she'd been accepted to the Chicago High School for the Arts to continue honing her craft. Soon thereafter she met Booker, and they created Moon Shoes when she was 15. By her sophomore year she was mentally checked out of high school. Music and touring seemed to become viable options. She was adopted into a thriving Chicago music scene. She's collaborated with the likes of Mick Jenkins, Noname, Saba, and the aforementioned Smino. If you're a fan of the broodingly poetic music coming from Chicago currently, you're probably already familiar with Ravyn. We've been working towards this episode for a while now. I've been observing Ravyn's artistic growth over the last few years, and hoping to have her on before her certain explosion. We caught her while she was in LA working on new music with Steve Lacy. Be on the lookout for her next record, it may very well be her big cross over.–Lee See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Monte Booker makes sounds you've never heard in a song before, but seem like you've heard them around you your whole life–the clicks and whirs of machinery, the hums and whistles of a flock of birds, the resonances inside our heads. An undeniably innovative talent, The Chicagoan producer has been making sonic tidal waves with rapper/crooner Smino, AirGo alum Ravyn Lenae, a bunch of other talented folks, and the groovy radio show Soulection. He takes a break from a studio session at Classick Studios and gets groovy. Recorded live 3/30/17 at WHPK 88.5FM in Chicago Music on this week's show: 2099 Flow - @montebooker Cereal - @montebooker Glass Flows feat. @ravynlenae (prod. @montebooker) - @SminoWorld

Ravyn Lenae makes elegant music. The ChiArts High School student released Moon Shoes, an EP largely produced by 20 year-old Monte Booker, a couple months ago, and the eight-song project has been an AirGo favorite since it dropped. Her elegant writing fits Monte's production so well that Chicago heavyweight Saba said, "Ravyn and Monte together [are] damn near the best collab in music.” She swings by the WHPK studio to talk that collab, high school life, and more.
