We bring in our friend Sydney, an Apex Swiftie and OG Post-Weird supporter, to walk us through what this means for Taylor and what might be next.Hosted by Stephen Williams and Zack Miller. Fresh off her latest mixtape ''CAPSULE_002: CLUB DIOSA', Shandelle brought the same fun vibes & energy to this week's episode of Bad For The Community! Things kicked off with Shandelle reflecting on her previous night's DJ set, which led to a conversation around "wall huggers" and people not dancing enough at the club. Shandelle then took us on a deep dive into her project and the mindset she was in during its creation, while she was dealing with real-life daily challenges. In the later half of the episode, we also reacted to the 2025 Met Gala, breaking down our favorite and least favorite outfits of the night. In this episode we welcome not one but two guests and ask them to talk about their long-time friend and mentor Dave Marsh. Daniel Wolff and Danny Alexander co-edited 2023's Marsh anthology Kick Out the Jams: on the eve of his 75th birthday they reflect on his powerful writing, his impassioned politics and his career from Creem and Rolling Stone to the Rock & Roll (subsequently Rock & Rap) Confidential newsletter he launched in 1983. An audio clip of Dave being interviewed by Daniel for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame takes us back to the former's championing of his Detroit contemporaries the MC5 and the Stooges. Meanwhile pieces about Creem itself and about his friend and frequent biographical subject Bruce Springsteen prompt our guests' amused thoughts on Dave's trenchant opinions and general combativeness. A 1990 Vox piece about 'The Star-Spangled Banner' leads us to clips from a 1996 audio interview with one of Marsh's many Black music heroes: the sainted Curtis Mayfield. On the 60th anniversary of the Impressions' 'People Get Ready', we talk about the Chicago soul star's songs, politics, guitar-playing — and the sheer wisdom and serenity of the man. (News of the death of Mayfield's old friend and fellow Impression Jerry Butler only reached us the day after this episode was recorded.) After we've paid our respects to Jam drummer Rick Buckler, Jasper quotes from recently-added library interviews with Lil' Kim (1997) and Hipgnosis boss Merck Mercuriadis (2021). Many thanks to special guests Daniel Wolff and Danny Alexander. Kick Out the Jams: Jibes, Barbs, Tributes and Rallying Cries from 35 years of Music Writing by Dave Marsh is published by Simon & Schuster and available now from all good bookshops. Pieces discussed: Creem Reflects Detroit Rock 'n' Roll, Barry Kramer 1943–1981, Sour Creem, Bruce Springsteen: Shouldn't He Be Famous?, The Incredible Story of Iggy & the Stooges, 'The Star Spangled Banner', Curtis Mayfield audio, Rick Buckler, Lil' Kim and Merck Mercuriadis.

Andrew Peterson is, as the old saying goes, a “man of many parts.” I first discovered Andrew's music in the late 1990s, when his song “Nothing to Say” first became a favorite – and it still is. I began following his musical career and quickly discovered that he had more on his mind that music. He was building a community of artists in Nashville that were slowly making something great. Musicians such as Ben Shive, Sandra McCracken, Jill Phillips, Andy Gullahorn, Andrew Osenga, and many others started collaborating on each other's projects. Many of them became a part of Andrew's annual “Behold The Lamb of God” tour, which has become an annual Christmas tradition for many of us. An Easter tour, called “Resurrection Letters,” just finished a 15-city run. In fact, I got to see it and hang out with Andrew here in North Carolina near the end of that tour last week. Andrew Peterson's creative energy has other outlets, too. His Wingfeather Saga books have sold more than a million copies, and it's now an animated series. The second season drops this week. He also founded a non-profit organization called The Rabbit Room, with his brother Pete Peterson, a fine writer himself. The Rabbit Room hosts events and concerts and now has a headquarters in Nashville, called Northwind Manor, which has become a gathering place and work space for writers and artists of all kinds. We talk about all of this and a lot more in this conversation I had with Andrew Peterson last week via zoom. Though we covered a lot of territory in this interview, the “breaking news” here, as we say in the world of journalism, is that Season Two of the Wingfeather Saga just dropped from Angel Studios. If you get a chance, check it out. The producer of today's program is Jeff McIntosh. Here at MinistryWatch we get technical, editorial, and database support from Christina Darnell, Kim Roberts, Rod Pitzer, Casey Sudduth, and Stephen duBarry. And in the spirit of Andrew Peterson's Resurrection Letters, let me mention that Easter is not a day, but a season, so let me wish you a happy and joyous Easter season, and – until we meet again with Natasha Cowden on Friday for our weekly news round-up…May God Bless You!

I hope you enjoy this week's episode. On this week's episode, we discuss: How music principles apply to photography, How and why Holger pairs his photography with music and writing, Holger's process for self-evaluation in the field, Printing at smaller sizes, Emotional response from our viewers, And a lot more! Over on Patreon for our bonus episode, Holger and I talk about practicing photography without a camera - something he does every day. Other items mentioned on the show this week: 1. Welcome to Episode 3 of our Making of an Album series For this episode, Nick and Andy (Cosmic Bos) take you through a selection of alternative writing techniques, discussing The Beatles contribution to the world of songwriting, in particular their later more experimental work, to the general explosion of alternative techniques of music creation that came about in the 1960's. After that, Cosmic Bos turn their attention to their own writing techniques, breaking down the improvisation process, following the trajectory of 'Rainbow Appearing', a song improvised last year in the 3rd full improvisation session (Summadelica), through to it's development for live performance and preparing the song to be an album contender. After improvisation comes improv-revisation, the basis of the first two seasons of Cosmic Bos Improv Music Podcast, where the music was improvised and then revised in the edit. The boys discuss this and play an example song 'Hold Me in Slow Motion'. After Improv-revisation comes Improv Squared, Cosmic Bos's current alternative writing technique, essentially a mash up of improvisation and improv-revisation. Nick and Andy talk you through this with an example song 'Badder Decisions' from their Improv Squared album - Petit Champignon de Lumiere https://cosmicbos.bandcamp.com/album/improv-squared-petite-champignon-de-lumiere To conclude the episode, Nick and Andy put together a brand new improv squared song called 'The More You Learn, The Less You Know', a video for which is available. The Instrumental version of 'The More You Learn, The Less You Know' will be available on bandcamp for you to come up with you own vocals to if you so please. If you wish to participate in future Improv Squared shenanigans please email us at cosmicbos@gmail.com Please like, share, comment and subscribe Peace and Infinite Love Cosmic Bos

Music is the oldest type of media we have, both in terms of when it was probably created (40,000 years ago) and when it was first recorded (the late 1800s). Music is in the background of our lives from beginning to end: from birdsongs and train whistles to lullabies and symphonies. And as tricky as it may be to write about music, that hasn't stopped critics, analysts, theorists, biographers, and fans from trying their hardest anyway. In this episode, we look at our relationships with music and music writing, and how what we know about music informed what we read for this episode. Music is a deeply personal medium in a way that television, film, and even books are not: music is essentially built to access our emotions directly, which means that comfort zones, even in reading about what we like, can be very isolated. We also discuss the future of music, which is speeding rapidly away from a physical medium at a rate we've never seen before. How that impacts music writing is anyone's guess, but we share a few ideas of what we expect to see over the next ten years.
