Part 3 - "Wake Up! The Bandits Are Coming!"At the end of March this year, officers from the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) responded to a request for assistance when an armoured Haitian National Police vehicle became stuck in a ditch near Pont-Sondé in Artibonite. The ditch was believed to have been dug by a local gang.As the MSS officers arrived to help, they were ambushed by armed men, allegedly from the Gran Grif gang. During the firefight, three armoured vehicles were set on fire, and one MSS officer went missing, presumed killed. This incident marked the second casualty for the Kenyans in about a month. The MSS was deployed to Haiti to help stabilize the security situation and combat the growing power of gangs. Unfortunately, since their arrival, the MSS has faced the same challenges as the Haitian National Police: a lack of manpower, inadequate equipment, and insufficient funding. The gangs continue to maintain the upper hand.Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Haiti continues to deteriorate. In the final part of this series on Haiti, we will explore the challenges facing the Haitian National Police, the fall of beleaguered Prime Minister Ariel Henry, the rising confidence of the Viv Ansanm gang, the arrival and difficulties encountered by MSS officers, and the escalating humanitarian disaster in the country.SpeakersJacqueline Charles, Haiti/Caribbean Correspondent, Miami Herald. Part 2 - 'Fighting Back'In 2022, a video emerged of an alleged senior gang member, Zo Pwason, who had been caught by an armed group of Haitian citizens, led by Commissioner Jean-Ernest Muscadin. Zo Pwason was allegedly a senior member of the 5 Segond gang. He was executed by the armed group.Muscadin declared that “As long as I am government commissioner, the city of Miragoâne will remain a cemetery for bandits”.In this episode we look at those citizens that have fought back against the growing power of the gangs, and the emergence of the 'Bwa Kale' movement in 2023. These self-defence or vigilante groups protect their neighbourhoods from the gangs, and target suspected gang members. We'll discuss how the gangs control areas through violence, limiting movement and the frequent targeting women and girls. But we'll also follow on from the last episode and explore the connections to other illicit markets like drugs and people smuggling, as well as the proliferation of firearms flowing into the country, the vast majority of which come from the US.And finally, we'll discuss the previous scandal-ridden recent UN mission to the country.SpeakersJacqueline Charles, Haiti/Caribbean Correspondent, Miami Herald. Haiti is a country that has suffered through a long, hard history. From disasters, both natural and man-made, the people of Haiti continue to strive to create a bright future for themselves. However, today that goal seems further away than ever and many people would be hard pressed to see the light at the end of the tunnel. How did a land that was once the Pearl in the Crown of the French Empire ends up in such chaos? In this episode we explore the rich and challenging history of this country, while looking at the current crisis and explaining the difficult road ahead. The subcommittee, according to The Washington Post, will also examine the federal government's response to the COVID-19 outbreak. In a memo, Secretary of State Lloyd Austin announced that the U.S. Department of Defense will no longer mandate the COVID-19 vaccine for U.S. military members. According to The Daily Wire, "House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) forced an end to the program last month when the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the annual defense policy bill, was passed.” According to a study from the New York University Center for Social Media and Politics, Russian bots had little to no influence over voters in the 2016 Presidential election. According to The Daily Wire, "House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) forced an end to the program last month when the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the annual defense policy bill, was passed.” 3:30pm- According to a study from the New York University Center for Social Media and Politics, Russian bots had little to no influence over voters in the 2016 Presidential election.  3:35pm- Last week, Governor Phil Murphy signed into law a bill requiring public schools to teach media literacy to all students in kindergarten through 12th grade—making New Jersey the first state to pass legislation combating misinformation academically. But what exactly will the state consider “misinformation”? 3:45pm- In a new National Review article, journalist Nate Hochman warns ChatGPT—a sophisticated chatbot utilizing artificial intelligence—may have been designed with algorithms that push left-leaning political stances.  4:05pm- Breaking News: President Joe Biden mishandled more classified documents than was originally believed. According to Ken Dilanian of MSNBC, a “second batch of classified documents at a different location than the [University of Pennsylvania] Washington office" have been discovered.  4:10pm- Earlier today, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked if Joe Biden may have mishandled additional classified information after concluding his second term as Vice President. Jean-Pierre stated, “this is an ongoing process.” Was she attempting to mislead the White House press? 4:25pm- In a 365 to 65 bipartisan vote in the House of Representatives, Congress approved the establishment of a committee to investigate the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the threat the CCP possesses to the United States, as well as Chinese citizens. However, progressive Congressman Jamaal Bowman bizarrely claimed the committee is xenophobic.  4:40pm- Jimmy Failla—stand-up comedian & Fox News Radio host—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss medicating fat kids, Victoria's Secret going broke after adopting “body positivity” as their business model, and woke M&M's. Zeoli notes that as Vice President, Biden did not have authority to declassify any of this information at the time.  5:15pm- Joe Biden's 21 craziest lies! 5:25pm- While appearing on CNN, former FBI agent Peter Strzok did his best to draw distinctions between Joe Biden's mishandling of classified information and Donald Trump's mishandling which resulted in his home being raided. 5:35pm- On Wednesday, Republicans began voting on two pieces of legislation intended to curb abortion. The House also held a vote to condemn attacks on pro-life facilities. Democrat Congressman Jerry Nadler objected to the bills, oddly claiming that they “endanger some infants.”    5:45pm- While appearing on Fox News, New York Post columnist Miranda Devine accused President Biden of having a “symbiotic relationship” with University of Pennsylvania which subsequently attracted large sums of Chinese money.  6:00pm- On Tuesday, Governor Phil Murphy delivered his annual State of the State address—taking a shot at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and insisting “woke” won't die in New Jersey. Murphy also bragged about New Jersey's economic growth, but outside sources suggest the state's economy isn't something to boast about.  6:15pm- According to National Review, the House Oversight Committee has requested Twitter executives Vijaya Gadde, Yoel Roth, and James Baker testify regarding their roles coordinating with the federal government to censor speech on the social media platform.  6:25pm- Zeoli is preempted for sports!

He collaborated with organizers and leaders to advocate for the DREAM Act, fight against SB1070 and challenge Sheriff Joe Arpaio's discriminatory practices in Arizona. In 2008, Luis joined the Obama campaign where he got insight on cornerstone aspects of electoral organizing. This knowledge, paired with technologies developed to boost volunteer engagement, is applied now in all his advocacy and community engagement work. Luis spearheaded Somos América in 2011, the largest immigrant-rights coalition in Arizona, and currently sits on the Boards of Advisors of the National Council for La Raza and The New Teacher Project, an organization working to end education inequality. A long-time family and community engagement expert, Luis has designed engagement models for domestic and international organizations and school systems. In 2016, he served as Nevada's Democratic Coordinated Campaign Field Director, contributing to major victories in the state legislature, electing the first Latina Senator and delivering the state to Hillary Clinton, and he’s currently launching Instituto, an organization to build political infrastructure in communities of color in Arizona. American officials have accused the company of violating an American trade embargo against Iran and with assisting China with spying on U.S. companies.
