In this episode, I interview Bharat Kanodia, the Founder and Chief Appraiser at Veristrat based in San Francisco, USA, helping clients with raising capital, estate planning, and mergers & acquisitions. Bharat has been in valuation since 2000 and has valued assets in real estate, industrial, personal property, and financial assets. With his extensive experience in valuation, he started his own valuation company in 2010. It was self-funded and was a tough start. He started with zero people and by 2013, he got 35 employees. Unfortunately, during the first six months of the pandemic, he had to let go of some of his employees and a few months later got some of them back to the company with a total of 25 FTEs now. Bharat says that two things make the business very sellable: “One, you need a consistent cash flow, you set up a business model, which makes your customers or your clients pay you on a monthly or a quarterly basis. And two, you need to set up systems and processes so that you can service those clients and customers on autopilot.” This Cast Covers: The company provides services to people who want to know the worth of something such as buying a business or selling a business. "No" Oriented Question Another counterintuitive at first, and highly effective tactic. If you'd like people to say yes to your request, formulate a question that makes them say "NO" "People are "YES" addicted "YES" is becoming a dirty word. YES means obligation, YES means commitment, Yes means I HAVE NO ROOM. You are giving them a choice when you change to NO ORIENTED question. They feel like they have an option." It was the summer of 1949. Young geologist Vadim Kolpakov was on a mission to northern Russia in the Irkutsk region. His job was to draw a geological map of the area. While on duty, he came across something so mysterious and remarkable, it'd continue to puzzle experts decades later… ooh, what could it be? Though it's now more famous as the Patomskiy Crater, locals had dubbed it Fire Eagle Nest, probably because it looks like a giant bird nest sitting on the hill. The Taino civilization was decimated by Christopher Columbus and other European explorers during first contact, but the legacy of these people, who inhabited what is today called the Caribbean, continues to this day.In a small exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, titled Arte del mar: Artistic Exchange in the Caribbean, Assistant Curator James Doyle showcases some of the rare wooden objects, along with the intricate gold pieces, fascinating stone stools, and other objects that have survived over the centuries. On tonight’s Out d’Coup LIVE, we’re talking higher education organizing during the coronavirus pandemic. As the beginning of the school year draws ever closer colleges, and universities have been struggling with how to go back-to-school and keep students, teachers, staff, and community members safe. I feel for the people who have to make these decisions at a time when the Federal government is almost completely devoid of help for colleges and universities - in terms of clear, transparent, and evidence-based guidelines on the one hand and financial assistance to enact necessary safety measures. To make matters worse, some university administrations have their heads in the sand, relying upon magical and wishful thinking. As you’ve heard me say before, my university, Kutztown University, is occupied by just such an administration. The pandemic shutdown has also posed challenges for activists and organizers who have had to shift strategies and tactics as well. As regular listeners to Out d’Coup podcast know, last spring I began working with a group of students, faculty, staff, and community members on a project called the Healthy Campus Bill of Rights. The initial project set out to demand 1. A Healthy Working and Learning Environment; 2. Campus Investment in the Financial Health of Our Community; and, 3. Campus Infrastructure Changes to Meet the Challenges of the Climate Crisis. Now, the Healthy Campus Bill of Rights has shifted to deal with the most pressing issue before us: Kutztown University’s insistence on returning to face-to-face classes in the fall, despite rising coronavirus cases and the fact that 9 out of 14 PASSHE universities have gone to mostly online classes in the fall. On tonight’s show, we’re talking to guests who are organizing in higher education in the middle of this pandemic. When I was a kid, I frequently got into trouble. Nothing serious, but I always liked to "push the boundaries". Especially when driving. I LOVED driving fast. I was always watching the road carefully, but I loved to drive fast. And I hated stop signs...especially in the country. There are NO PEOPLE...so why do they need stop signs. Well, the police knew my name. I guess that I received at least 5 tickets for speeding, not stopping, illegally parking, illegal U-turns... Like I said, nothing serious, but I did get A LOT OF tickets. And each ticket--I had to pay money! That "money" is called a FINE. And today's expression will tell you HOW painful those fines were!
