In this episode, the focus is on mastering the art of pitching within the context of growing a company, emphasizing the importance of engaging people effectively despite their inherent complexities and irrationalities. Recognizing that people, including ourselves, operate in ways that might only make sense to them, the episode delves into how to craft a pitch that resonates and leads to more affirmative responses. The key lies in sharing a compelling vision of the future that addresses a problem or gap and depicts an improved future state. This approach not only demonstrates an understanding of the current challenges but also ignites excitement and passion, crucial elements for driving decision-making and action. The episode further explores the significance of personalizing the pitch to align with the interests and desires of the audience. This requires setting aside one's own objectives to contemplate what truly matters to the other party, speculating on their motivations, and explicitly connecting the benefits of the proposal to their specific needs or goals. By articulating how the proposed vision relates directly to them, it's possible to create a more persuasive and impactful pitch. This strategy, comprising a clear depiction of the problem, a vision for a better future, and a personalized connection, is presented as a reliable formula for consistently perfect pitches, transcending the need for perfectly chosen words and instead focusing on genuinely addressing and engaging with the other person's aspirations and challenges.

Born and raised in a small town in Mansfield, Connecticut, Alexa Curtis knew she didn't fit into the “normal social mold”. When she was 7 years old, her father was wrongfully convicted of a heinous crime and put in a maximum security prison.  By the age of 12, her father was released from jail but during that challenging period of life, Alexa started writing and expressing herself through fashion to help her cope, starting a fashion blog; A Life in the Fashion Lane which became a platform for her to express her feelings about everything relating to teens, body image, and mental health.  As Alexa evolved, her blog naturally shifted from fashion to discussing sensitive topics that teens and young adults face every day. A Life in the Fashion Lane was changed to Life Unfiltered with Alexa Curtis.  It became a lifestyle website and podcast for teens & parents discussing topics such as social media and mental health.  Not only did Alexa turn her little fashion blog into a full-time lifestyle platform for teens, but through cold-pitching, she got sponsored by brands like British Airways, T-Mobile, Lands' End, and more.  Today, on top of helping her consulting clients pitch themselves with her tried and true framework, Alexa is the CEO and founder of Be Fearless and the Be Fearless Summit, a pop-up summit that appeared at Drexel University right before we were in a pandemic lockdown in 2020 and has since premiered at UCONN, Vanderbilt, Central Connecticut State University, and UC Berkeley.  Alexa has spoken at numerous colleges; (Northeastern, UConn, Eastern Connecticut, Rutgers) along with high schools – discussing how to be fearless as well as on mental health and social media.  Alexa has had the honor of speaking alongside Amal Clooney and Serena Williams at Penn Women and in Sept 2018, she added ‘host' to her arsenal as she launched her own radio show on Radio Disney called “Fearless Every Day” with Alexa Curtis which was the first of its kind and broke new ground for the Radio Disney where Alexa interviewed various guests who shared their journey of overcoming obstacles/challenges and chasing after their dreams.  Recently, Be Fearless Summit was acquired by upskilling and mentorship platform GrasshoppHer. Alexa works with the co-founder Heather Miller on their membership model and reinvented career fairs. Follow and Connect with Alexa: Alexa Curtis Instagram Alexa Curtis Consulting Be Fearless INC. Happy Mural Month! This week's episode features California-based muralist and business mind Derrik Diza. Not long ago, I came across one of Derrik's posts in a Facebook group talking about how he's getting new business and advising other artists on how they can too. Another business-minded artist looking to share industry “secrets” in order to help others make more money with a paintbrush? Hello! I had to introduce myself and get him on the podcast. Derrik and I talked on the phone about business for an hour prior to this conversation, then another hour after we concluded the interview. Basically, we both love the topics of murals+money+mentorship, and it's so motivating for me to chat about it with someone else as interested in it as I am. I think you'll find this chat motivating because Derrik breaks down the process of pitching and sets realistic expectations for results. This is the non-sexy side of running an art business but as he's proved in his own business, if you put in the work the results will follow. A good pitch can help you land big deals, secure important investments, and forge meaningful connections. One of the most important steps to perfecting your pitch is putting yourself out there. You must be willing to network, meet with potential clients and investors, and make a lasting impression. You can do this by attending events and conferences. Next, it's important to have a strong pitch. You need to be able to articulate your idea or product clearly and concisely. Practice your pitch in front of friends, family, and colleagues until you feel confident in your ability to communicate effectively and efficiently. It's also important to research your target people. Before you make a pitch, do your homework and find out who your prospective clients and investors are. Knowing who they are and what they're looking for will make it easier to craft a pitch that caters to their needs. Be confident in your skills. Believe in yourself and the value you can offer. It's important to be open to different types of people and to learn how to effectively communicate with them. Finally, don't be intimidated to explore new angles. Sometimes the best opportunities come from unexpected places. You never know who you'll meet or what opportunities may arise from networking and putting yourself out there. CONCLUSION: Perfecting your pitch is essential for any entrepreneur. You must be willing to put yourself out there, craft a strong, unique pitch, research your target people, and be confident in your skills. Don't be afraid to explore new angles, and be open to different types of people. With these tips, you'll be well on your way to success! As recession fears continue to muddy the waters of progress, your story is more important than ever. Your narrative—what you tell and sell in the market—will be responsible for the interest and investment you get in your next round—or unfortunately for some, the interest and investment you don't get... So on this week's episode of The SaaS Brand Strategy Show, we take a page out of Sequoia Capital's playbook, and break down the actual pitch deck they ask for from companies pitching them, slide by slide. We'll walk you through the narrative they ask for, why they ask for each element, and how you can (and should) illustrate your story and your category to match their roadmap, in as concrete and compelling terms as possible. Plus, an episode about the perfect pitch wouldn't be right without an in-depth discussion of the merits of Kacey Musgraves. You'll get all that and a whole lot more, on this week's episode of The SaaS Brand Strategy Show. About DRMG: SaaS Brand Strategy (SBS) isn't about the colors you use, or the typeface you choose. It's about the category you design and the story you tell. DRMG exists to help SaaS businesses find their magic bullet, load it, and fire it into the market. Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content, and PR so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it. In this episode, I'm going to be talking about perfecting your pitch to the media. I love talking about this, and it's something that a lot of people feel a bit scared about when they first start doing it, but the more you do it, the easier it gets. So perhaps you're trying to market your business or share a charity event or something that's happening in your world, here are 10 tips to help you pitch to the media, take a risk. {1.26} Pitching stories is really about taking risks because you don't know what the outcome will be. If you're worried about putting yourself out there, think, what is the worst thing that can happen? Literally, the worst thing that can happen is that you get ignored or someone says no, in which case, you can just move on and try something different and just think, well, that one didn't land, I'm going to try another one. {2.56} You need to approach journalists effectively. I can't tell you how many press releases I've been sent, where they got the wrong publication and the wrong name. Now, this might sound a bit ego led, but people don't tend to read emails that aren't addressed to them. {4.38} Provide extra content. Journalists are super busy and have many deadlines to meet. So they want someone who's prepared and ready. Providing extra content to your pitch will definitely give you an advantage. {6.59} You can give an exclusive to one publication, and then a different angle to the others. That way, you can still release your full story to other places too. If you're going to offer exclusivity, make sure it's for that dream publication that your ideal client loves to read. {7.26} Don't be rude. It's not personal. It will be down to their news agenda, their editor, what other news stories are breaking that week. Sometimes you even land a story and then a bigger news event will happen and all of the stories that have been scheduled to go that day will be knocked off by a breaking news event. So, it's never ever guaranteed that your story will make the press. Andrew Ford, Founder of Social Star, has turned the elevator pitch on its head with his own pitch structure which aims to be more conversational. The standard elevator pitch, he insists, is one-directional and lacks true engagement. With practice, your pitch shouldn't feel like selling; instead, it should feel like you're providing answers to someone's questions. The challenge Andrew sets out to solve is getting them to ask you questions.   Business Essentials Daily is produced by: SoundCartel soundcartel.com.au +61 3 9882 8333 See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
