And we put GPT-4 to the test in Last Com-AI-c Stand and show just how terrible it still is at writing jokes. Join your hosts Kevin Pereira, Gavin Purcell, and this week's co-host Eunice, a senior citizen AI who's been around since the early days of computing and loves Kevin, for a wild ride of AI adventure. ***WE GOT A SPONSOR*** Visit Supermanage.AI/humans and sign up for the waitlist to support the show and learn more about this very cool AI management software. What is GLIF? GLIF is a brand new, hands-on AI playground where you can experiment with generative multi-media projects. Essentially, you make forumlas of how you want your AI to turn out, from images to words and more! https://glif.app/glifs What are HeyGen's Hyper-realistic Digital Avatars? We'll discuss the advancements in digital avatars, featuring HeyGen's technology. HeyGen has been around for a bit making digital avatars to use for marketing or personal use. But CEO Joshua Xu unveiled the next level this week and it has us questioning wether or not we'll even be able to differentiate between avatar and real human in the future. What is Last Com-AI-c Standing? First, we're sorry. Second, we send three figures from history, powered by ChatGPT (Shakespeare, Cleopatra & Napoleon), to see which one can write the funniest jokes! Spoiler: They're all pretty bad but still entertaining. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.04.03.535350v1?rss=1 Authors: Marasco, A., Tribuzi, C., Iuorio, A., Migliore, M. Abstract: Efficient and accurate large-scale networks are a fundamental tool in modelling brain areas, to advance our understanding of neuronal dynamics. However, their implementation faces two key issues: computational efficiency and heterogeneity. Computational efficiency is achieved using simplified neurons, whereas there are no practical solutions available to solve the problem of reproducing in a large-scale network the experimentally observed heterogeneity of the intrinsic properties of neurons. This is important, because the use of identical nodes in a network can generate artifacts which can hinder an adequate representation of the properties of a real network. To this aim, we introduce a mathematical procedure to generate an arbitrary large number of copies of simplified hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons and interneurons models, which exhibit the full range of firing dynamics observed in these cells - including adapting, nonadapting and bursting. For this purpose, we rely on a recently published adaptive generalized leaky integrate-and-fire (A-GLIF) modeling approach, leveraging on its ability to reproduce the rich set of electrophysiological behaviours of these types of neurons under a variety of different stimulation currents. The generation procedure is based on a perturbation of model's parameters related to the initial data, firing block, and internal dynamics, and suitably validated against experimental data to ensure that the firing dynamics of any given cell copy remains within the experimental range. This allows to obtain heterogeneous copies with mathematically controlled firing properties. A full set of heterogeneous neurons composing the CA1 region of a rat hippocampus (approximately 500K neurons), are provided in a database freely available in the live paper section of the EBRAINS platform. By adapting the underlying A-GLIF framework, it will be possible to extend the numerical approach presented here to create, in a mathematically controlled manner, an arbitrarily large number of non-identical copies of cell populations with firing properties related to other brain areas.
Tom and Dan discuss with Myke what it was like to see the Glif on stage at an Apple keynote, then the 3 discuss Mark One Apollo and Theme System updates.
In this episode, we talk with Shan He from Uber, the founding member of Uber’s data visualisation team. Combing backgrounds in architectural generative design (gained in China) in the physical space with generative software design and data visualisation (learned at MIT) she created a new field that becomes increasingly important. By using geo-data and design visualisation tools she is able to design eye-opening visualisations that help in the communication of scientific findings and enable better decision making for cities and governments. Based on the data from Uber's global user in over 600 cities the visualisations can show when and how people move in the environment. In addition, her team developed an open source tool called “Kepler.gl” which gives everyone access to these powerful visualisations tools. Furthermore, the data is empowering research and science to easily create stunning infographics and presentations out of their data. For cities and urban planners its crucial to understand how people move, if they drive alone or with multiple people and understand citizen behaviour in general. Shan and her team work closely with cities to foster better and more strategic urban design. In this episode we’ll hear from Dan Provost, 50% of the Studio Neat team. They started in 2010 with a piece of hardware, called a Glif, that mounted a smartphone onto a standard camera tripod. They were aiming for $10k for the campaign and ended up reaching almost $140k. They rebooted the Glif in 2016 and raised $208k, passing their $50k goal in less than a day. Their ridiculous success on Kickstarter isn’t the story here though. What’s interesting about Studio Neat is that the company is just two people: Dan and his business partner Tom. That’s it. Their office is a garage behind Tom’s backyard in Austin, Texas. They’ve been able to build a company of one, with two people, shipping thousands of orders at a time after successful crowdfunding campaigns, and make the whole thing work without sacrificing having a good life. They embody the ideas and mindset of thriving as a company of one.e without scaling his company. Learn more at https://ofone.co
Tom Gerhardt and Dan Provost are the founders of Studio Neat, a design company making gadgets and tools through Kickstarter. Their first campaign, the Glif tripod mount, helped launch other Kickstarter hardware back in 2010. Since then, they’ve crowdfunded seven more projects, everything from the Cosmonaut to the Neat Ice Kit. Their products are simply designed and delightful to use. On this episode, Tom and Dan share how a diverse product offering and slow-but-steadfast audience growth are tenets of running their business (7:00). Stephan, Tom, and Dan ponder being generalists versus specialists (12:17). Tom likens Studio Neat to a band (16:04). They talk about growing their email list through Kickstarter (21:18) and the long tail benefits of selling through Amazon (22:40). They talk about the creative process of making practical products (25:10) and how a product story is important (28:05). They explain why outsourcing works for their small operation (40:44), and finally, they talk about jealousy as a source of inspiration and motivation (48:25). Tom and Dan had one of the most successful Kickstarters of 2010 when they released the Glif. But was that enough to launch full-time careers as product makers?
The Get Paid Podcast: The Stark Reality of Entrepreneurship and Being Your Own Boss
This online business world is full of coaches and consultants whose expenses are limited to team members, software and maybe some extra coaching. But what do you do if the thing you want to sell requires a mold that costs $10,000 just to get started? Lots of industrial designers will turn to Kickstarter when they want to validate a product idea before investing tons of money in making it. The Glif, created by Tom and Dan from Studio Neat, was among the earliest campaigns to really blow up in the physical product space, and since then they've continued to use the crowd-funding platform to launch new products.

Followup Poslao nam Sloba: A man just got a pretty hefty fine for using his Apple Watch while driving Hvalio nas Sloba: Zaista odlicna epizoda. Uzivao sam izistinski. Dan Provost and Tom Gerhardt are Studio Neat, a small design and software group that produces nifty products. They began with the Glif, and when I talked to them last over a year ago, they had launched their second software product and were deep in planning on a new, more complicated item: the Neat Ice Kit. They funded the kit on Kickstarter in September 2013, raising $156,000 against a $50,000 goal. We talk through the challenges of fulfilling that campaign, more lessons learned, and their recently launched follow-up, the Simple Syrup Kit. Studio Neat, one of my favorite companies, was back at the expo this year showing off their newly revamped iPhone tripod mount, the GLIF ($30). Unlike previous versions that were designed to hold a specific iPhone model, the updated GLIF is adjustable, meaning it can hold just about any smartphone, with or without a cover. Most universal tripod mounts feature a spring-loaded clamp to hold your device in place. This means you can instantly swap out one smartphone for another -- a nice benefit most mobile filmmakers will never need. The downside of this approach is that the clamp may not hold your device as snugly as you'd like. The GLIF takes a very different approach. Using the included hex key (allan wrench), you can tighten the GLIF around an existing iDevice. This results in a mount that fits your gizmo like a glove. Then, when you get a new iPhone (or Android), you can pull out the hex key and adjust your GLIF to fit. In other words, the GLIF doesn't allow for quick swaps, but it will remain useful even as you upgrade to new devices with different form factors. Sweeeeet! The GLIF is small enough to slip in your pocket, and just like the previous incarnation, this new model doubles as a table-top stand. It looks like it could open a beer, but I have yet to be successful with that. I'll keep you posted. In case you were wondering, this bad boy started its life in 2010 with a Kickstarter campaign. Studio Neat was hoping to raise $10,000 to get the GLIF off the ground. Instead, they raised... wait for it... $137,417! That's a lot of GLIFs! At least 50, right? I failed math.
Our guests today are the two co-founders of Studio Neat, Dan Provost and Tom Gerhardt. Their design for an iPhone camera mount, called Glif, was the very first product design project to launch on Kickstarter way back in 2010. Since then they have launched two other projects, Cosmonaut, a wide grip iPad stylus, and Simple Bracket, an easy to use iPhone app for filling out March Madness tournament brackets. Now they're back with a new project called the Neat Ice Kit (video below), which is designed to help you easily make clear ice for cocktails at home. If there is a theme to their work it's this: smart, simple, and successful. We talk about their approach to running a Kickstarter campaign, how they pick projects to work on, our favorite cocktails, the new iPhone 5C, and vintage software.
