In this episode, Troy interviews Dr. Lee Mathias, shareholder/director at Tend and Pictor. She's based in Auckland, New Zealand. Dr. Lee has an illustrious career, she served as a Principal Nurse at Middlemore Hospital, and she was a critical figure in the transformational changes to primary maternity services as the founder of Birthcare, now she is continuing her career as an entrepreneur by being a director at Pictor, an in-vitro diagnostics company that is still running strong after 13 years. After seven years as a Principal Nurse, she took her MBA in ‘85 to ‘87' an academic degree that she used to its full extent to manage multiple companies. Keeping Pictor afloat by valiantly finding ways to fund the business, such as various public sector funding sources, angel investors, series fundings, etc., whilst generating revenue to compensate for burning $700,000 a month. Apart from all the things that Dr. Lee loves about growing a business, the one thing that she doesn't is funding. Dr. Lee heavily emphasized the fact that when developing a business, “you need to have a pretty good idea where your money is going to come from.” to plan, determine how much money you have available to invest in new projects, hire employees, or expand operations. This Cast Covers: The remarkable accomplishments of Dr. Lee Mathias throughout her career. Various public healthcare services. Developing your brand through transparency and empirical evidence. Exhausting every possible way to raise funds. The difficulty of running out of money in a business. Getting people to understand exactly what the product you're selling is. Always having a process and method for your business. Celebrating achievements to build a sustainable culture. Heavily investing in your professional and personal development. Making sure to have the best hardware you can afford. Dr. Tadd Lazarus is the Chief Medical Officer at Pictor, working on innovative diagnostic tests to provide answers to complicated clinical questions concerning the status of a patient's level of antibodies. From one specimen, their test can determine if the antibodies have been produced as a result of vaccinations or boosters and if the patient had the disease being tested for. Their mission is to help patients determine if they have effective antibody levels and are able to have the kind of response that will be protected them over time. Tadd explains, "We develop innovative diagnostic solutions to enable more informed clinical decisions both in human and animal health. Specifically, we have a highly multiplexed platform that really changes the way antibodies are detected. As we know from COVID, antibodies are proteins that our body manufactures in response to infectious agents, except we detect them differently. We detect antibodies in an incredibly focused and what we call highly multiplexed manner, so that we have an incredibly sensitive and specific test. But moreover, it's able to detect multiple antibodies that the body produces for multiple infectious agents at one time. That's a very big change." "One of the reasons why it is important to determine if vaccinations and boosters are effective is that there are antibodies that can be administered to patients intravenously if those patients are determined not to have a clinically significant antibody response to vaccinations/boosters and/or infection. And those formulations are getting tweaked now for more predominant strains, so making sure that they're covered. So there's something that we can do about that for the immunosuppressed, the elderly, and the immunocompromised, who are not showing a healthy and protective antibody response." @PictorLtd #pictor #PictArray #IVD #Biotech #Innovative #HumanHealth #COVID #Antibodies #AntibodyTest #ImmuneSystem PictorDX.com Listen to the podcast here

X-ray Spectral Analysis of the Jet Termination Shock in Pictor A on Sub-Arcsecond Scales with Chandra by R. Thimmappa et al. on Monday 21 November Hotspots observed at the edges of extended radio lobes in high-power radio galaxies and quasars mark the position of mildly-relativistic termination shock, where the jet bulk kinetic energy is converted to the internal energy of the jet particles. These are the only astrophysical systems where mildly-relativistic shocks can be directly resolved at various wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum. The western hotspot in the radio galaxy Pictor,A is an exceptionally good target in this respect, due to the combination of its angular size and high surface brightness. In our previous work, after a careful {it Chandra} image deconvolution, we resolved this hotspot into a disk-like feature perpendicular to the jet axis, and identified this as the front of the jet termination shock. We argued for a synchrotron origin of the observed X-ray photons, which implied maximum electron energies of the order of 10--100,TeV. Here we present a follow-up on that analysis, proposing in particular a novel method for constraining the shape of the X-ray continuum emission with sub-arcsec resolution. The method is based on a {it Chandra} hardness map analysis, using separately de-convolved maps in the soft and hard X-ray bands. In this way, we have found there is a systematic, yet statistically significant gradient in the hardness ratio across the shock, such that the implied electron energy index ranges from $sleq 2.2$ at the shock front to $s> 2.7$ in the near downstream. We discuss the implications of the obtained results for a general understanding of particle acceleration at mildly-relativistic shocks. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2208.10648v2
A new test is now available to enable those who are curious about whether or not they've ever had Covid-19 to find out, for a fee. It's been made available by Rako Science, in partnership with an Auckland diagnostics company, Pictor. Auckland University senior lecturer and immunologist Dr Anna Brooks spoke to Māni Dunlop.
Pictor is an in-vitro diagnostics company that has a patented multiplex platform for highly accurate testing for complex and infectious diseases in human and animal health. PictArray™ multiplex technology makes it possible to detect multiple disease markers in a single test simultaneously. The lead product is a diagnostic for Covid 19 which can detect multiple antibodies. The company has also developed tests for M. bovis, for maternal infections and other diseases. www.pictordx.com

A New Zealand biotech company hopes results from a clinical trial it plans to run in Auckland could ultimately reduce the need for MIQ and limit vaccine wastage around the world. Auckland-based Pictor Limited is seeking 300 volunteers for a trial of its COVID-19 IgG antibody test, which can determine whether someone has a Covid spike protein, indicating they've been vaccinated, or whether they have both the spike AND nucleocapsid proteins, which indicates they've previously been infected with Covid. The company says the test could be used to identify people at the border who are less of a risk and might not need 14 days isolation. In this show I talk with Apostolos and Vasilis who I met at FOSDEM 2020 about the Pictor radio telescope which they created and now maintain. Using free and open source software and hardware they have made a radio telescope that anyone can operate via a simple web page and which can return results to you within a minute or two. In fact you'll hear me get excited during the show when I realise this and submit an observation request, the results of which came back immediately and which you can see below. To date Pictor has performed 3,500 observations from over 700 users from all around the world. Additionally, the PICTOR web platform is now equipped with a 3.2m antenna, which is about 4 times more sensitive than the previous 1.5m antenna, so users can observe the radio sky for free with an even more sensitive instrument. On top of that, after 204 hours of integration time and over 3 TB of data, they have produced a Northern Sky Hydrogen (HI) Survey produced with the PICTOR Radio Telescope. This effort actually marks the very first radio-image obtained in Greece, shown here: Pictor all sky images of hydrogen in our galaxy Here are the results of the observation I performed during the show. The body of the email pictor sent back to me confirms the observation I requested: Your observation has been carried out by PICTOR successfully! Observation name: mcnalu first try Observation datetime: 2020-12-08 12:40:09 (UTC+2) Center frequency: 1420000000.0 Hz Bandwidth: 2400000 Hz Sample rate: 2400000 samples/sec Number of channels: 2048 Number of bins: 100 Observation duration: 10 sec Observation ID: 82937104 Your observation's averaged spectrum, dynamic spectrum (waterfall) and Power vs Time plot are attached in this email as an image. And this is the plot attached to that email: Graphs showing raw and corrected radio spectra for mcnalu's observation request Please do have a go at using Pictor and let us know how you got on by recording an HPR show.

Welcome back to another Podcast everyone. First of all thanks so much to all of you who have listened, downloaded and left reviews to our Podcast- We really appreciate it! This is still very much early days (as you can probably tell with a few teething problems) and we can't wait to bring you along with us on this journey. In this Podcast we talk to a very good friend of mine, training partner and Professional Triathlete; Sam Pictor. This is a long one so knuckle down for the ride as we have a pretty chilled chat with Sam about how he started this journey, when he realised he had the potential and his future goals. We want to make this Podcast as chill as possible so this is less of an interview and more of a chat with a good mate. We talk about some serious stuff but also have some good banter- we really hope you enjoy this style of podcast. At the end we ask Sam some rather random quick fire questions. We'd love it if you joined in with those.

Dr Matthew Hunter (McGill University) Did Joshua Reynolds Paint his Pictures? Professor Mark Hallett (Paul Mellon Centre) Point Counter Point: Josua Reynolds, portraiture and late eighteenth-century exhibition culture. Abstracts Matthew Hunter. In May 1773, an open letter to London’s Morning Chronicle lodged a peculiar complaint with Sir Joshua Reynolds. Pigmented ooze—paint—had, in the view of this critic, come to bear in upon British art with undue, defacing force. The problem followed from conceptualizing artistic identity through an excessively literal translation of French Peintre as “Painter, and the materials which ingenious persons of that denomination make use of to display their talents, we have, from that word, calledpaint, which in French is named coleurs.” Closer to the liberal art actually practiced and promoted by Reynolds, this anonymous critic proposed, sculptors and architects could offer useful counter-models: “Why not like these have a peculiar name, Sir Joshua, for your very profession? Why not like these take up at once your classic name? Why not Pictor?” Situated within the rich, period discourse and extensive, modern documentation of Reynolds’s chemical experiments, this paper aims to take theMorning Chronicle’s complaint seriously. It considers the ways in which Reynolds and his contemporaries understood interfaces between paint and image, while exploring the broader stakes (then as now) of apprehending the President’s temporally-evolving chemical works as “pictures.” Mark Hallett. This talk, which will focus on the portraits submitted by Joshua Reynolds to the annual Royal Academy displays of the 1780s, explores the workings of the painted object within the crowded, ephemeral and spectacular exhibition displays characteristic of the late eighteenth century. Particular attention will be devoted to the ways in which, within the Academy's Great Room, Reynolds's individual portraits of women were played off against each other and against portraits of male subjects, and thereby became part of an extended and highly intriguing form of visual dialogue and counterpoint.
