Wahoo! A busy, busty 3 weeks has gone by. The Sky Skipper event / Arcade Club party went well, Play Expo was on, Victor and Shaun have been busy as fuel injected bees with a heavy schedule and to top that we had some lovely Americans over! The past weeks have been chock full of arcade fun. “Doesn't like rum n raisin” ? “Likes slippers” ? “Pointless inertia guff” ?

Hey Friends, With the Holidays approaching, we all have extra things to do! How can we incorporate help from our little ones? We can, if we can identify what they do independently, naturally, when they don't yet have many skills - Listen to this 2 year old example! We also talk about how to identify when your child feels confident in a job and a strategy that shows your child exactly HOW YOU WANT a job done. Of course, sometimes our kids are playing a video game or otherwise buys. You need a way to interrupt and redirect them, - keeping the joy! And finally, we discuss the strategic Celebration along the way! Remember when it is good for you, it is also good for the kids. We want the joy inside during the process. :) Let me know what part is useful to you and how you incorporate the ideas! Always cheering you on! This month we go off-piste to talk about our visit to PLAY Expo Blackpool. We're joined by the super VakantScull, also from the Midlands, making Dave sound the most Northern he ever has in his entire life. Discover what we played, what we hated and what we spent our hard(ish) earned(ish) cash on.
Steve's back! In fact, everybody's back for this likely final seven-man episode of the pod. We'll be switching to a rotating foursome moving forward, so drink in the madness of too many cooks while it lasts! There's a discussion about naughty words and how they affect a film's ranking for reasons I've already forgotten and can't be bothered to check, but it's all a weird segue into a big chat about our time in Blackpool for Play Expo 2022. The Mega Drive game rankings then resume, as we finally tick off Issue 4's lot. Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Aladdin, Madden NFL '94, NHL '94 and Flashback join the hallowed ranks to make a total of 71 games at this point. Don't forget to get your questions in to podcast@sega-mania.com and here's the pre-recording list of ranked games for you to follow: Streets of Rage II Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Streets of Rage Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition Gunstar Heroes Rocket Knight Adventures Sonic the Hedgehog Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master Revenge of Shinobi TMHT: The Hyperstone Heist Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe QuackShot Starring Donald Duck ToeJam & Earl Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse Shining Force Thunder Force IV Sonic Spinball World of Illusion Sensible Soccer Columns Golden Axe Alien Storm Mortal Kombat Spider-Man vs The Kingpin Road Rash II Road Rash Strider Micro Machines Wonder Boy in Monster World Jungle Strike Landstalker Cool Spot Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun Klax Dick Tracy FIFA International Soccer World Cup Italia '90 Ghouls 'n' Ghosts OutRun Alien 3 Home Alone Desert Strike Atomic Runner Super Hang-on ESWAT The Terminator Taz-Mania Space Harrier II Zero Wing Galaxy Force II Decap Attack Kid Chameleon Turrican Splatterhouse 2 Jurassic Park WWF Royal Rumble WWF Super Wrestlemania Batman Super Thunder Blade Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle Bubsy In: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind LHX Attack Chopper TaleSpin Bart vs. The Space Mutants Shadow of the Beast Steel Talons

It seems the fallout from The Streets of Rage 2 Incident has given rise to a short hiatus for the Mega Drive rankings, and what better way to plug that gap than by answering questions from you lovely lot! We smashed through our backlog of listener emails, answering questions about our first gaming memories, most recent games we bought, our preferences for movie watching, games we want to see remade, and loads more. It's basically a two-hour long tangent. We'll have a very special ranking next time around, as well as a game we missed, so if you maniacs want to get involved next episode then please contact us at podcast@sega-mania.com. Oh, and don't forget to watch out for us at Play Expo in Blackpool - less than a month to go now!
This week, we all leave the house to go to Play Expo, an interactive exhibition celebrating computer games and gaming over the past 30 years. We spin tales of wonder on the sights we saw, the people we overheard and the old games we didn't buy. We also open with a classic slice of British humour, get into an argument over semantics and discover a hilarious new way to describe marmalade. Don't believe me? Give a listen. Enjoy. ;) You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram under Geek Theory Podcast. Listen to us through iTunes, podomatic.com or Spotify. Want to ask us a question/send in topics for the show? Once again, we return for a packed Geektown Radio podcast, and I'm joined Bex Trista of TristaBytes (who is amazingly not injured this week!) to discuss all the usual tv & film new and air date info, along with a rundown of the fun she had at Play Expo Manchester. We also have an exclusive interview with Production Designer Melanie Jones.Melanie Jones is an award-winning Los Angeles based production designer, with a diverse body of work which includes commercials, television, feature films, print and stage design. She is most well-known for her production design on Damien Chazelle's Oscar-winning 'Whiplash', but is also having a busy spring with three new and completely different projects debuting. For Warner Bros' upcoming horror film, 'The Curse of La Llorona', starring Green Book's Linda Cardellini, Melanie created a haunting, supernatural story world where a family tries to survive the wrath of La Llorona, the ghost of a woman who drowned her children. On Netflix's period Mötley Crüe biopic 'The Dirt', Melanie was responsible for recreating the iconic venues and places that the notorious band, Mötley Crüe, played at.For ABC's upcoming comedy series, 'Bless this Mess', starring Dax Shepard and Lake Bell, Melanie shaped the rural Nebraska home and farm town that newlyweds Rio and Mike leave everything in New York for. Over the weekend I headed up to Manchester to take a look at PlayExpo 2014 at Event City. There was a lot of cool stores, some tv bits and pieces, and a huge retro gaming area of old SNES, SEGA and pinball machines. However the area that really captured my attention was the indie gaming section, full of new and in-development independent games. I got chatting with a number of the developers and publishers which you can hear on the podcast below (at the bottom of this post), but I've also included videos of the games in this post so you can see what we're talking about! Chris O'Regan chats to Daniel Linssen about The Sun and Moon. When is a platform not a platform? When it turns into water and reverses the polarity of gravity. At least that is the case with The Sun and Moon. Show host Chris O'Regan first discovered The Sun and Moon at EGX 2014 but only managed to play it at Play Expo in Manchester. Using minimalist visuals, The Sun and Moon relies on both momentum and the acceptance on the part of the player to use the changing nature of the platforms to move around any given level. Developed by Daniel Linssen who is based in Sydney, Australia Chris chats to him about the Sun and Moon as well as a plethora of other topics including the cross over between tabletop and video games. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/sausage/TSF_Episode43.mp3 The Sausage Factory 43 was edited by Chris O'Regan
Show host Chris ORegan chats to Psycho Interactive, the makers of Voxelfield. There are a lot of MOBA games out there and Voxelfield hopes to be one of them. Currently in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign to get the game funded, which is a game Chris discovered while at Play Expo 2014 in Manchester. Chris chats to the developers about the destructive scenery of Voxelfield and the fact that the heroes are giant robot mechs piloted by mercenaries all working for private military contractors. Other topics covered include how to deal with toxic community members within Voxelfield and how the AI controlled creeps use the destroyed scenery for cover. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/sausage/TSF_Episode40.mp3 The Sausage Factory 40 was edited by Chris O'Regan
