In this episode, Leah and Dr. Willow sit down with their dear friend and functional medicine and Chinese medicine practitioner to draw a hard line between natural menopause and menopausal syndrome, unpack why hormone replacement therapy alone leaves a massive gap in your care, and get honest about the adrenal health, blood sugar regulation, and liver function conversations that should have happened years before your first hot flash. They also get into andropause, testosterone conversion in men, and why the most loving thing you can do for your body right now has nothing to do with hormones at all.KEY TAKEAWAYS:Menopause and menopausal syndrome are not the same thing, and confusing the two is exactly why so many women are still suffering after starting hormone therapy.Your adrenal glands become the primary producers of estrogen precursors after menopause, so chronic stress is not just emotional, it is hormonal.Hot flashes and night sweats are most often driven by hidden immune stressors like urinary infections and digestive imbalances, not declining hormones alone.A liver cleanse at least once a year is one of the most direct things you can do to keep hormones balanced, because your liver has to filter and process every hormone in your body.Men convert testosterone into estrogen or DHT under chronic stress, which explains low libido, weight gain, emotional flatness, and erectile changes far better than low testosterone alone.Shame around food creates more physiological stress on the liver and gallbladder than the food itself ever could.Menopause is not a biological mistake; it is a designed transition into the most powerful role of a woman's life, and the body will not let you access that role while it is running on empty.LINKS & RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THE EPISODE CAN BE FOUND ON THE WEBSITE: https://www.sexreimagined.com/blog/menopause-symptoms-root-cause ROOTED IN DESIRE. If you are in your 40s or beyond and wondering why everything you used to do no longer delivers results, this episode could change everything.Jenn Trepeck, host of Salad with a Side of Fries, sits down with registered holistic nutritionist and life coach Lara Frendjian to unpack why perimenopause symptoms demand a completely new approach to mornings, menopause weight loss, and daily metabolic health. Today, I am delighted to reconnect with Caroline Alan, affectionately known as the Mineral Geek. Caroline is a health survivor, mineral expert, and educator on a mission to shift the way we think about cellular health. Her transformative experience sparked a deep dive into the science of minerals and human physiology. Caroline is the author of The Mineral Reset and Co-founder and CEO of Beam Minerals. In today's discussion, Caroline shares her personal story of poor adrenal health in perimenopause. We explore the effects of plant-based minerals, the prevalence of mineral deficiencies in our modern-day lifestyles, and the impact of key stages in a woman's life, including menstruation, pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause. We examine how macro- and micronutrient deficiencies are exacerbated by poor gut health, the value of humic and fulvic acids, and how humic and fulvic molecules can support the body at a foundational level and assist in balancing our health during perimenopause and menopause. We also discuss the circumstances and challenges women experience in middle age, and highlight some essential paradigm shifts to consider as we age. Caroline truly loves sharing this vital information with the world, so you certainly won't want to miss today's insightful conversation with her. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: How Caroline's chronic health issues extended beyond mitochondrial dysfunction and hormone decline The turning point Caroline experienced after introducing liquid minerals Why are so many women currently experiencing mineral depletion? How nutrient density of produce has declined due to modern farming methods, making it difficult for us to meet our nutritional needs through diet alone Why filtered and purified water can contribute to mineral depletion. Minerals and how they support energy production and biosynthesis in the body How minerals are absorbed and used in the body Why the standard approach to supplementation often fails How poor gut health, heavy metals, and parasites can impede the proper utilization of minerals The value of humic and fulvic acids lies in their ability to help restore the body's natural replenishment process. Send us a textStress isn't just “in your head”—it's a full-body experience. And for many women, the symptoms they blame on hormones, aging, or lack of motivation are actually signs of chronic stress. In this episode, we break down what stress really is in the body—without jargon or overwhelm. You'll learn how emotional, mental, and physical stress all signal the same survival response, and why modern stressors like constant busyness, skipped meals, poor sleep, people-pleasing, and overtraining keep the body stuck in “go mode.”We explore how chronic stress impacts:Hormones and energy levels (fatigue, crashes, wired-but-tired feelings)Digestion and metabolism (bloating, cravings, irregular appetite)Mood, sleep, and emotional resilience (anxiety, restlessness, feeling on edge)We also challenge the idea that healing from stress requires doing more. In many cases, pushing harder with intense workouts, restrictive eating, or added routines only deepens burnout.Instead, we share realistic, sustainable ways to support your nervous system and build true stress resilience—through consistent nourishment, restorative rest, gentle movement, boundaries, and daily signals of safety for your body.Because resilience isn't about pushing through—it's about recovery. What's one way you can support your body this week instead of pressuring it?Join us in our private Facebook group. If you are exhausted all the time and can't figure out why, this episode is for you. Today I'm breaking down the real truth about adrenal health, cortisol, and fatigue, and why so many women feel stuck, dismissed, or confused when it comes to their energy. Fatigue is not one thing. It is not always just stress, and it is definitely not something you should be told to "just push through." One of the most frustrating things about fatigue is that so many symptoms overlap. Low energy can come from nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar instability, thyroid dysfunction, estrogen or progesterone imbalance, adrenal dysfunction, or cortisol issues. This is why guessing rarely works. When women ask me: Why do I feel like this? Are my adrenals burned out? Is my cortisol too high or too low? Why does nothing I try actually fix this? The answer is not a guess. The answer is data. This is one of the reasons I love the DUTCH test so much. It shows us what your body is actually doing with cortisol, not just a single snapshot in time. I recently reviewed a DUTCH test for a woman whose main concern was low libido. She had tried every testosterone supplement out there and even changed her workouts to boost hormones. Her testosterone looked great. The real issue was her cortisol and adrenal function. This is incredibly common. Cortisol issues can shut down libido, energy, motivation, sleep, and even weight regulation, especially in women. High Cortisol vs Poor Cortisol Clearance Sometimes fatigue comes from producing too much cortisol. Other times, it comes from the body being unable to clear cortisol effectively. The DUTCH test shows us both. Elevated cortisol production can look like feeling wired but tired, anxious, inflamed, unable to sleep, or constantly on edge. Poor cortisol clearance can lead to puffiness, brain fog, inflammation, weight gain, hair loss, and a sense that stress just keeps piling up. These require different strategies, and this is where personalized care matters. Why Lifestyle Has to Be Part of Healing If someone is helping you with hormones but never asks about your sleep, stress, digestion, or daily life, you are not getting full care. Sometimes healing looks like: Supporting cortisol regulation with adaptogens and targeted herbs Improving protein and mineral intake Fixing sleep timing and consistency Supporting liver, gut, lymphatic, and kidney clearance Learning how to stop living in constant survival mode And sometimes the most powerful changes are surprisingly simple, but only once you know exactly what your body needs. How We Actually Fix This Once we know what's going on, the next question is always: "Okay, what do I do about it?" This is exactly what we do inside The Hormone Foundations Program. This is a six-month, one-on-one program where we: Run a DUTCH test at the beginning Create a fully personalized plan based on your results Adjust support as your body changes Address adrenal function, cortisol production, and clearance Re-test at the end so we can compare and confirm progress There is no cookie-cutter timeline. We focus on what your body needs, not what a generic schedule says you should work on. This is our most popular program for a reason. It gives you answers, a plan, and support every step of the way. You will learn about the five macro minerals as the big players that run your electrical system, stress response, thyroid, blood sugar, and detox pathways, and why I always start with a straightforward hair test before worrying about smaller numbers. What is really happening when these core minerals drift out of balance and you feel fatigued, anxious, constipated, bloated, unable to sleep well, or emotionally numb while your blood work keeps looking normal? Chronic stress, mold, gut and absorption issues, restrictive eating, big hormonal transitions, and even over filtered water can quietly drain these minerals long before anything shows up clearly on your standard labs. Your body has been compensating for years using every mineral trick it has to keep your blood looking stable, and the question is whether you'll help it move from survival back into actually feeling good. You'll Learn:[00:00] Introduction[02:49] What a cellular-level mineral test reveals long before blood work changes[04:57] How calcium can steady your system or silently block hormonal signals[05:51] The surprising ways low magnesium derails energy, mood, and digestion[06:52] What sodium levels expose about your stress load and resilience[18:52] How mold strips key minerals and creates the “four lows” pattern[20:26] Why arsenic and other heavy metals rise when minerals crash[32:40] What it really takes to move from mineral survival mode back to stabilityResources Mentioned:Master Your Minerals Course | WebsiteOther Hormone Healing episodes to listen to:Zinc deep dive | EpisodeCopper deep dive | EpisodeIron deep dive Part 1 | EpisodeIron deep dive Part 2 | EpisodeAll about the Copper IUD | EpisodeSelenium deep dive | EpisodeNothing boring about Boron | EpisodeMaster your minerals. It's time to simplify, take control, and make wellness work for you—without the stress! The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, who discusses wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store. IN THIS EPISODE: (02:44) Don't allow your health plan to stress you; focus on what works for your body and your life(06:19) Limit how many content creators you follow and the truth about protein and fiber(10:31) Clean, lean protein, veggies and fruit, and eating at certain times of the day(15:27) Fasting, the difference between unprocessed and processed foods, and movement(23:40) Listen to your body, stress, sleep and supplements(31:15) Social connection and community are key for longevity(33:08) Sleep is the ultimate biohack for a healthy body(37:02) The quality of a supplement mattersKEY TAKEAWAYS:If your health plan feels overwhelming, it might do more harm than good. Simplify your wellness by focusing on what works for you and limiting the experts you follow to avoid confusion and decision fatigue. Our bodies are wired to respond to stress as a survival mechanism, but modern-day stressors—like emails and phone notifications—trigger the same physiological response as life-threatening situations. This prolonged fight-or-flight state shuts down essential functions like digestion, immune response, and detoxification, contributing to long-term health issues.Simple actions like deep breathing before meals, movement, quality nutrition, fresh air, and social connection can help regulate stress and improve overall well-being. Prioritizing sleep and establishing consistent routines further support mental and physical health.Supplements can be a powerful tool to add on, but they cannot take the place of other healthy lifestyle choices.QUOTES: (07:48) “No expert knows your body better than you do. We teach ourselves not to listen to our bodies, we outsource all of that to the rules, and we follow the rules and ignore the signs and communication coming from our bodies.” Jenn Trepeck(11:45) “The difference between a meal and a snack is how much we have at a time and how long till we might need to eat again.” Jenn Trepeck(21:33) “We've heard sitting is the new smoking. Right? The thing we're doing that we don't realize is slowly killing us because sitting all day is not human.” Jenn Trepeck(27:34) “The physiological response designed to save our lives now contributes to our demise.” Jenn Trepeck(42:54) “Anything we're doing for one part of the body supports everything in the body.” Jenn TrepeckRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramTop Five Tips for Digesting Nutrition NewsNutrition Nugget: 30-30-30The Ultimate BiohackSleep On It 60 Second Health Quiz

Mario Brainovic is the creator of the Analemma Wand, a tool that transforms regular water into its super-charged, full-spectrum coherent state. Mario came across the profound influence of water quality on human health and made it his life's work to uncover and share knowledge surrounding structured and mother water. WHAT WE DISCUSSED: [6:25]- How did Mario get interested in coherent water? [12:47]- Are structured water and EZ water one in the same? [15:06]- How did water naturally found in nature become unstructured? [16:50]- Does water sitting next to a computer or phone make it dirty due to the electromagnetic wavelengths? [22:50]- How does the human body react to structured water? What is the fourth phase of water, a gel-like phase? [37:26]- Does water have memory? Is water intelligent? [53:26]- Can the Analemma Wand help heal gut dysbiosis? [1:01:23]- How long does it take to create structured water from home? How much structured water should someone drink? [1:07:05]- Does structured water influence pet health as well? [1:12:00]- Closing thoughts from Mario... including how one's limiting belief about their health may be the reason they are not able to truly heal.
