This episode we welcome back Cecil Burch of Immediate Action Combatives for a third time! Cecil holds the record for most appearances and said on the air that he would have to ensure that no one took his lead....hehe! - We do an After Action Review of the Immediate Action Jiu-Jitsu and Pugilism seminar we hosted in Tulsa OK 16-18 July 2021. The course was very transformative for all the students, frankly it had some of the same impactful learning experiences as Shivworks ECQC. Eric and Aaron speak on some hard learned lessons they experienced during the weekend, lessons that audience members may learn from as well. Also a very important discussion was on the value of simulation and force on force training with simple blue guns. We all loose sight of the fact that we do not have to use simunitions or UTM all the time to get value. Blue gun work has 80-90 percent of the value and is way easier and cheeper to implement. Per the discussion on the show please pick up the book Safe Force on Force Firearms Simulations By Ralf Mroz Cecil Burch is a like long martial artist training in a multitude of systems for over 40 years. Some of the systems have been Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Martial Arts under Dan Inosanto and Paul Vunak, he has trained in Thaiboxing, western boxing, Sevate and Pentjak Silat and many more. Currently Cecil's primary focus is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in which he has a Black Belt under the legendary Megaton Diaz. Furthermore Cecil is an avid shooter and is a part of the Shivworks Collective which is a scholarship of the finest minds in integrated martial arts, combining combative sports modalities with force on force stress inoculation using sims guns and training blades to pressure test those modalities. https://www.iacombatives.com/just-like-you/ Evolution Security is Eric Davis, Aaron Davis and Brian Schilt; specializing in self-protection education, defensive pistol and carbine, consulting, and weapons based grappling. On their way out of town, they stop at the home of Lady Entress, as they heard she was interested in acquiring their services for an issue in her province. We had just returned to the studio after the national and state lockdown mandates for the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic of 2020. It was time to begin making sense of what we were experiencing. This episode takes us back to the early months of the confusion and fear. David Pierce of Pugilism and Politics joined me as we discussed the political landscape, medical and science aspects of coronoavirus, and shared what we understand the pandemic to mean on an individual and global level, based on the ancient teachings of elders that came before us. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for January 6, 2021 is: pugilism PYOO-juh-liz-um noun : boxing Examples: "Floyd Mayweather says he'd be willing to come out of retirement to fight Conor McGregor again—but only for, say, 'an easy $300 million.' Which just goes to show that Floyd—in finance as well as pugilism—remains a big fan of the must-score system." — Dwight Perry, The Seattle Times, 2 Oct. 2020 "Born on June 7, 1952 in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, William Neeson originally had his eyes set on pugilism, not acting. In 2014, Neeson recalled being 9 years old and attending Sunday Mass when his parish priest, Father Darragh, announced he was starting up a youth boxing club." — Jake Rossen, Mental Floss, 18 Nov. 2020 Did you know? The sport of boxing had its Olympic initiation more than 2,500 years ago in the 23rd Olympiad of 688 BCE. The ancient Romans adopted the sport from the Greeks, and we adopted the word pugilism from them: the Latin word pugil means "boxer." (The word is related to the Latin pugnus, meaning "fist.") Boxing faded out with the decline of the Roman Empire, but resurged in popularity in the 18th century. By the century's end, pugilist and pugilism were firmly entrenched in the English lexicon, and pugilism now sees additional use in reference to metaphorical sparring, as in a political debate.

Considering he's going for the rare title of first professional boxing champ with Tourette Syndrome, Zack Rice has the perfect ring name: TicNTimebomb. We could pun the description of this episode as a hard-hitting interview, but it's so deep into the realities humanity that ... hard-hitting is probably appropriate, actually. Zack's a boxer, and while it's possible you're not into the sport, it's really just kind of an operative backdrop in this episode -- especially for the second half. Yeah, he answers questions about what got him into pugilism, how he trains and what it means to him, but from there it opens up wide into the philosophies of self acceptance and the personal punishment of being a people pleaser -- focusing on earning the admiration of other people due to insecurity, to the degree where you're subtracting too much from yourself. We talk about the motivation that gets him out of bed everyday with lots of good reminders for living a better life. This one just gets better as it goes. Hang out with us. In three years, he went from being a homeless ex-convict to becoming a 6-figure earner, successful entrepreneur, community leader, founder and visionary of Fort Collins’ only boutique boxing studio, Beautifully Savage: The Art of Pugilism. There are moments in life when we find ourselves completely open, vulnerable, and ready to share our truth for reasons that reach beyond fear, and into the heart of our purpose. My conversation with Joe Buckner was one of these moments. He is more than just a powerful example of someone whose embraced the dark lessons of his life, he’s a man who is building a legacy of hope, and inspiring others to fight for the lives that they want. So if you’re curious to find out what it means to let go of the person you are, in order to become the person you’re meant to be, this episode is for you.

Is the original Pugilism or Bare fist fighting relevant for todays modern streets as a self defence system ? In this episode we discuss why it is relevant and why it is effective as well as addressing defence against knives and other weapons. We discuss the technique and the principles as adapted to the art as a self defence art. Excuse the background noise as I was in a noisy area when this episode was recorded as well as all the breathing noises as I had to use the proximity effect of the microphone to get a decent recording.
In this episode we look at some of the comparisons between the old English art of Bare Fist Fighting oe Pugilism and the modern sport of MMA. We talk about how similar and different they are in their approach to training and how the competition of the different eras differed. We also talk about how they trained and the mental training of the fighters, as well as their defensive uses on the street.
Should man mate with apes? How do you survive a bear attack? And what exactly is dibbling a man's clay? All of these questions are answered in the first ever mini episode from Yesterday's Chip Paper. As well as this, there are tales of unbelievable bravery, saving mail trains and novel tactics from a creative policeman. YCP Extra! Sees Jim and Violet pick out the best of the shorter stories they stumble across while looking through the archives, those that aren't long enough to make a full episode, but are brilliant nonetheless. Yesterday's Chip Paper is a fortnightly(ish) podcast that looks at true stories found in historic newspapers from across the world. With hundreds of years of history at their fingertips, the only real limit to the stories that are told is that they have to have happened - or, at least, been reported. Whether it's true crime, mass hysteria or unusual reporting of famous events, it's always guaranteed to be downright bonkers. The core of this test was a variety pack of the Polish Chopin vodka, In potato, wheat, and rye varieties. Potato-based Spud vodka, also from Poland was put head to head against Chopin Potato, American Grays Peak was put against the wheat. Ultimat vodka, also from Poland, is a blend of potato, grain, and rye. These were all unknown quantities to us, so we also threw in the perfectly adequate bargain priced grain based Rokk as a baseline. There were a couple of real stinkers and one was even officially denounced, but a challenger emerged to put the venerable champ Crystal Head to the test. The ending was a little ambiguous, as you’ll see.

Pugilism is a hobby you must consider the hidden costs of before partaking in. For example, those bandages are not free gifts. And water sponges to not buy themselves. You have been warned.
