Recently Matt joined Moira Donegan and Adrian Daub of the excellent In Bed with the Right podcast to record what turned out to be two episodes about Roy Cohn—the "lawyer, closet case and ratfucker extraordinaire," as they describe him. These days Cohn is perhaps most infamous for being Donald Trump's lawyer and mentor, but this first episode focuses on Cohn's childhood and family life, his decisive role in the Rosenberg trial (especially their execution), and his time working with Sen. Joe McCarthy at the height of the Red Scare. After you listen, please head over to In Bed with the Right to check out the second episode on Cohn and hear the rest of his story.Sources:Nicholas von Hoffman, Citizen Cohn: The Life and Times of Roy Cohn (1988)Christopher M. Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast! On this episode we had the pleasure of having a conversation with local captain Matt Perachio of Tighten Up Charters, Cape Cod. We have known Matt for several years, and fish a lot of the same grounds throughout Massachusetts and Cape Cod Bay. Matt's offshore fishing career began during his childhood summers on Cape Cod with his family. Over the years his affinity for the ocean left him wanting more and eventually he transitioned from  recreational and commercial striped bass fishing, to the adrenaline packed pursuit of light tackle bluefin tuna and taking out clients for hire. Today, Matt is a full time charter fisherman and guide. He runs over 150 trips a season, with most of his trips being light tackle bluefin tuna trips; specifically targeting bluefin using casting and jigging tactics. Matt owns and operates a 27' Onslow Bay, and has several other charter captains and run and gun boats under his wing.Matt is a wealth of knowledge and is extremely passionate about all types of fishing. In this conversation, Matt takes us through his charter fishing program. We talk about different tactics that we use for chasing striped bass and tuna throughout New England. Matt goes into detail on how he approaches light tackle tuna fishing. He talks about everything from rigging, finding fish, to approaching schools of busting tuna. Recently Matt and his crew have started an online resource for everything light tackle tuna fishing called Bluefin Plus. If you are a light tackle junky, make sure you check it out. This conversation with Matt was awesome and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did!Stay Tight,The Sears BrothersSponsors, Information, and Links from this podcast episode:Guest:Captain Matt Perachio@tightenupcharterscc@bluefin_plushttps://www.tightenupcharterscc.com/Podcast Social Media:SeaBrosFishing: @seabrosfishingMBG Fishing Charters: @massbayguidesBryan: @mbgbryanTaylor: @mbgtaylorMonahan's Marine@monahansmarine MBG24 for 10% Off in StoreMass Bay GuidesUltimate Fishing Adventures @massbayguidesBlack Oak LEDPremium Marine LightingGiantbluefin 20% OffAfuera Coffee Company massbayguides 15% Off First Coffee Order Rhodan MarineRhodan HD GPS Anchor+® Trolling Motor@rhodanmarine L.T. When I started writing firearms-related articles in the early 1990's you didn't need to spend time telling the story of the Browning Hi-Power, AKA the P35. The majority of gun people already knew it. Now, thirty years or so later — wow, have I been writing that long? — we have an entire generation, maybe two, who weren't raised on the old WWII or Cold War guns. Some of those people confuse the term Hi-Power with Hi-Point. About a year ago, my friend Nicholas Orr wrote a book discussing the historical significance of many small arms used during the last century and a half; A Pipe Hitters Guide to Small Arms & Weapons. With Mr. Orr's permission, I've pulled an excerpt from that book.  (Click Here for Full Article)   From www.lawenforcementtoday.com: Sometimes it takes a good guy with a gun to take out someone intent on doing people harm. Such is the case in Las Vegas where a Good Samaritan did just that, likely preventing a man from killing a number of people.  Las Vegas Metro police said that a man, who was not identified, showed up for his job with a home remodeling firm and was declared "unfit" to work. He was subsequently fired by his employer. That led the man to go on an unhinged rampage, with him getting into his SUV and driving recklessly down the street, RVM News reported. Some residents who were out on the streets and sidewalks had to dive out of harm's way.  One resident told reporters about the incident.  “He was trying to hit somebody, and it was either going to be me or the kid or whoever's standing in that road,” said Richard Osayna.  However, the incident was not without victims. Two men were struck by the suspect's SUV, including his now-former boss, with the incident happening in Osayna's driveway. (Click Here for Full Article)

Tricia left her job, and made the decision to get into a management training program with Freddy's working with Lisa. We've discussed that on a previous episode, and today, we are going to discuss the decision making process that Matt went through as he was choosing a new position with a new brand. Now, things were not easy on Matt, he had multiple offers come in on the exact same day for the exact same money, same bonus structure, same benefit package. So it became an issue of what is best for his long term outlook and his career. When that was put into the equation, things started to get a little complicated because one brand had better growth opportunities for him. But the other brand, he felt like he had a better connection with.So Matt and Tricia discuss why he had the better connection with one brand and not the other. And then they also discuss what led to the final decision. When all things are considered equal. You have to get really nitpicky and start digging really deep. And Matt's decision ultimately came down to where did he have the biggest impact in the long term growth of the company? And where did he feel the most comfortable when it came to uniforms. So to hear the entire discussion about Matt's decision making process, and what he went through in the hunt for a new opportunity, listen to today's episode of The QSR guru Podcast, the podcast dedicated to helping you become the quick service restaurant leader you were meant to be.Join the conversation at www.facebook.com/groups/qsrguruEmail us at info@qsrguru.comFind our website at www.qsrguru.com

#339 - Rethinking Hip Drive: Fixing the Dreaded Good Morning Squat

Barbell Logic

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 10, 2020 43:33

Recently Matt and Niki have been dealing with a prominent issue among their late intermediate and advanced lifters (some of them very strong too!). These lifters will descend beautifully into the hole on a squat, then while driving up allow their knees to shoot back, causing their hip angle to close and their backs to become more horizontal as more of their body mass travels behind the midline. This is a phenomenon they have experienced primarily with more experienced lifters, who perhaps have internalized the chest down/lean over/hips back/hip drive cues TOO well.   While the concept of hip drive is important for a novice lifter to understand and practice, it is really a sort of over-cue, an exaggeration of what happens in a proper squat during the concentric, or ascent. Novice lifters commonly struggle with staying too vertical in the squat, or lifting their chest (and thus becoming more vertical) during the drive up, so the hip drive cue is useful in teaching them to assume and hold a more horizontal back angle than they are used to during the movement.   However, as a lifter progresses and even becomes quite strong, it's common to see new problems emerge, such as knee slide, knees shooting back during the ascent (as described above), and knee valgus. Knees shooting back indicate that the knees are extending without causing the bar to move, and Matt theorizes that it results from a misunderstanding of hip drive. What we want when a lifter drives up out of the bottom is for the bar to start moving immediately, without a change in back angle. This can only happen if the knees extend first, because if the hips extend first, then the back angle will immediately become more horizontal. So, lifters struggling with this problem, or it's sister problems -- knee valgus and slide -- need to focus on cues that get them to extend their knees first out of the bottom.   BLOC sales and special offers: https://barbell-logic.com/offers/   Want to try online coaching for FREE? After a string of mixes from international DJs, (Gnork, Bobby Analog & Hidden Spheres) it was time to return to some Scottish talent. For Ep. 16 we invited the Glaswegian duo - Rhys & Matt. As always on Bside, the DJs were only allowed to play the B-Side of their favourite records. Having only recently started integrating a CDJ into their sets, the pair have an extensive record collection. They take us on a smooth trip, showcasing some of their favourite wax. The mix starts with some breaks & spacey chords, then progresses into some extraterrestrial house sounds, and finishes with some club equip techno. Rhys & Matt both are heavily involved with @subclub, both in promotions and DJing. Recently Matt was in charge of setting the tone for Harri & Dom, as well as Model 500 for Subculture. They also have a weekly residency at Mr Wu's Disco Kitchen, where the recording took place. Big thanks to Molly Hickey for the artwork. Recently Matt and Scott interviewed Matt's grandfather. Today they interview Scott's dad, affectionately known as "Frog." Raised by a single mom who passed away when he was only eleven, Frog and his siblings were taken in by their "Aunt" May and whipped into shape until his father returned (briefly) to take his children. Frog struck out on his own at age 15, and resolved to finish high school. Homeless, he showered and slept in the gym, until the school principal discovered him and took him into his own house.   Needless to say, it was a tumultuous childhood. Against the odds, however, Frog managed to build a successful military career and become a loving family man, breaking the vicious cycle of poverty.   For those wondering what the heck "Froggy Went A-Courtin'" is, here's a rendition from Tex Ritter's 1973 album American Legend.   Whiskey of the Week Balcones Brimstone   Connect With Matt Matt on Instagram Starting Strength Online Coaching — Matt’s website Matt on Facebook Matt on Twitter Connect With Scott Scott on Instagram Silver Strength – Scott’s website Scott on Facebook Scott on Twitter Connect With the Show Barbell Logic on Twitter Barbell Logic on Instagram The Website Barbell Logic on Facebook barbelllogicpodcast@gmail.com

They have held over 200 auctions in the last 18 months where artists and investors interact in the buying and selling of royalties. Recently Matt launched a sister company Royalty Flow–created to purchase larger royalty streams and get more investors involved. What is the process of Royalty Flow? Investors can buy shares through a platform called Folio, those shares are then transferred to a major exchange like Nasdaq. Royalty Flow was created after being approached to buy Eminem’s royalties. Royalty Flow provides a way for a pool of investors to purchase. What are motivations for investors to buy royalties? Investors view this as a hedging strategy because it is uncorrelated to their other portfolios. In contrast, what are some motivations for selling off royalties? There are hundreds of thousands of investors that contribute to artists getting their music out there – music producers, song writers, etc., not just performers. Those contributors have royalties. Artists and their contributors see the advantages to diversification and investors see a sense of security in having a steady flow of income outside of their Wall Street portfolios.
