Today I've got a really interesting conversation for you about a relatively new instruction model that is designed to create learning environments that truly meet the needs of every student. It's called the Modern Classroom Project, and my guest is Robert Barnett, is the co-founder of the model as well as the author of the new book that describes this approach called Meet Every Learner's Needs: Redesigning Instruction So All Learners Can Succeed. Rob has spent years teaching across different subjects and age groups, and he's passionate about transforming education to be more flexible, engaging, and student-centered. In this episode, you'll hear Rob broke down the Modern Classroom instructional model, which gives students more agency over their learning by allowing them to move at their own pace and collaborate with each other to achieve mastery. He also explained why instructional videos can enhance accessibility, how mastery checks help confirm readiness before advancing to the next lesson, and how, ultimately, this model prioritizes the critical role of teacher-student relationships in fostering engagement and trust. Rob also shared insights into why traditional education systems often struggle to meet the needs of all the learners, as well as how parents can share the Modern classroom resources with their kids' teachers or school administration. I love talking with people who are on a mission to shake up big systems, and this is definitely one of those inspirational conversations. I hope you enjoy this conversation with Rob Barnett. About Robert Barnett Robert Barnett co-founded the Modern Classrooms Project, which has empowered 80,000+ educators in 180+ countries to meet every learner's needs. Before that he taught math, computer science, English, social studies, and law, from the middle-school to university levels, at public and private schools in the U.S. and abroad. He is the author of Meet Every Learner's Needs: Redesigning Instruction So All Learners Can Succeed and he hopes his children will learn in Modern Classrooms someday! Things you'll learn from this episode How the Modern Classroom model supports flexibility, student agency, and individualized pacing for deeper learning Why instructional videos enhance engagement, comprehension, and accessibility, allowing students to learn at their own pace How mastery checks help confirm readiness before advancing, ensuring a strong foundation for continued learning Why building relationships with students fosters trust, engagement, and better behavior management in the classroom Why equity in education means adapting teaching methods to support all learners, and parents can advocate for modern approaches that benefit their children Resources mentioned Meet Every Learner's Needs: Redesigning Instruction So All Students Can Succeed by Robert Barnett Meet Every Learner's Needs book website Meet Every Learner's Needs Substack Modern Classroom Project Book giveaway for listeners Khan Academy Universal Design for Learning (UDL) The Disengaged Teen: Helping Kids Learn Better, Feel Better, and Live Better by Rebecca Winthrop & Jenny Anderson The End of Average: Unlocking Our Potential By Embracing What Makes Us Different by Todd Rose Learn more about your ad choices. Y'all probably know I'm not the biggest fan of the way learning happens in most classrooms…and oh, there are so many reasons. I have believed for a long time that traditional education is outdated and needs a ginormous revamp. However, I wasn't willing to homeschool my own kids.I liked the break and having my days as my own. So year after year, I made a “self-ish” decision when it came to my own kids' education. I always felt a tinge of guilt and don't really think they received the best. So I was super excited to talk to Rob Barnett. He's a former teacher and co-founder of the Modern Classrooms Project. They're a non-profit that envisions a world where technology can help kids learn at their own pace, by making space for teachers to give every kid the time and attention they need. Rob's new book, Meet Every Learner's Needs, builds on his experience in the classroom and as an education advocate. It's a blueprint for changing the way kids learn, and making teaching more rewarding. I just know you'll hear something that you'll want for your kids in their classrooms! As always, thanks for listening. Head over to Facebook, where you can join my free group Mastermind Parenting Community. Unwavering Loyalty. That is what is required at a time deep convictions on God's promises to Israel are far and few between. We stand with the Nation of Israel and Jewish people everywhere. The one through whom all things were and for whom all things were made came in Jewish flesh and will return as the Jewish King. As Gentiles it is our prerogative to stand with and for God's nation, regardless of what may come as a result. Masterfully so, brothers Asad Robinson, Rob Barnett, and Abimbola Daramola showed us through Matthew 25 that how we treat the least of Jesus's jewish brothers is how we treat him. Dig down past all the rubble of public opinion and the flood of dissipation in our day, and build your house upon the foundation of the Jewish nation.

Today on the podcast, I'm glad to welcome Kareem Farah, founder of the Modern Classrooms Project. As a teacher in Washington D.C., Kareem faced problems that many teachers can relate to - students missing class all the time, and classes made up of students at hugely varied levels. He wanted to try something new, because he felt the practices he had been taught were not working. Together with his friend Rob Barnett, he created a new instructional model that took into account the fact that students were approaching the materials from different levels and often, on different days following absences. He now shares his methodology through his non-profit, The Modern Classrooms Project, in use by 58,000 teachers in over 150 countries. In this interview, Kareem and I talk about the blended learning approach of the MCP and how to try it out for yourself, and dig deep into how to combine this approach with creative practices and projects. I keep reading about unemployment being at a record low! Headlines scream "Hot Job Market" "Workers have the upper hand" and other stories along those lines. So why are so many of us running into brick walls when searching for that next great gig? Age? Perhaps! Ageism is unfortunately alive and well in the corporate world. Today's guest is a long-time friendly acquaintance of mine who, shockingly, also hit the dead zone when applying for jobs the last time he found himself without a job. He stumbled into a new career as a headhunter, and wrote a book to share his new-found expertise with the rest of us. Today I'm joined by Rob Barnett, former big shot at MTV/VHI, Amazon/Audible, past president of CBS Radio, founder/creator of My Damn Channel and lots more, author of "Next Job, Best Job: A Headhunter's 11 Strategies to Get Hired Now". I promise some entertaining stories and strategies to help you finally get that next, best job.

Rob Barnett @RobBarnettMedia joins me to share his story, he talks about how much his Mom loved him (she let him practice his drums in their apartment) how a DJ & his Step-Mom helped him find Bruce, his book Next Job Best Job and his work with Why Hunger https://robbarnettmedia.com/
After college, Kareem Farah became a high school math teacher, teaching in the traditional way that most of us experienced as students, with the instructor standing in front of the classroom and lecturing on the information that students were supposed to learn. Much to his frustration and dismay, however, he soon discovered that there were some things that were shockingly wrong about traditional teaching and learning, namely that the instructional model was largely broken and kids in his classroom were not being well-served by it. As such, Kareem, along with fellow teacher, Rob Barnett, co-founded The Modern Classrooms Project – addressing their personal Job To Be Done of “Help me to replace this broken instructional model so that I can better serve my students.” In this episode, and through the lenses of the Jobs To Be Done framework, Kareem joins The Christensen Institute's Tom Arnett to discuss the unique instructional delivery professional development model that they're building at Modern Classrooms Project, including features such as the model being opt-in only and both curriculum and grade level-agnostic, and also how it results in more student-centered classrooms, along with better outcomes for both teachers and students. The Modern Classrooms Project is a great example where the founders' own struggling moments were indeed the seeds for innovation in the K-12 classrooms where teachers have adopted the Modern Classrooms instructional model.
