I was recently reading the March - April 2026, issue of The Science Teacher, a publication of the National Science Teaching Association. In this issue I read an article written by Douglas Allchin. He wrote an article entitled "When Experts Disagree." Respect the consensus of the relevant scientific experts. That's the benchmark for reliable science in informing public policy or personal decision-making. But what if the experts disagree? What if there is no genuine consensus? If we cannot confidently sort fact from fiction, what are we to do?
On today’s program, we’re speaking with Columbus Community School District science teacher Tessa Pugh about her science classes’ plant sale raising funds for the school’s courtyard area and outdoor classroom.
Women in science often don't get the credit they deserve for their work. A Highland Community College club unites women across the sciences to talk about the opportunities and real challenges they face.
Day of AI (dayofai.org).

Wayne Brillhart is a science teacher and commentator who has expressed critical views about the concept of the personal carbon footprint and its role in environmental policy discussions. In talks and commentary such as Forget About Your Carbon Footprint, Brillhart argues that focusing on individual behavior can sometimes distract from larger industrial, economic, and policy factors that contribute to global environmental change. His perspective encourages debate about responsibility, scientific interpretation, and how environmental solutions should be structured at societal and governmental levels.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. I was recently reading the November 24, 2025 NSTA Blog, a publication of the National Science Teaching Association. In this blog I read an article written by Jason Strohl. He wrote an article entitled "Embrace the Chaos: Advice for New Science Teachers." Jason interviewed Madeline Grygiel, a science instructional support teacher for the Richmond (Virginia) Public Schools. The article shares four keys to successful science teaching: 1. Redefine what science looks like 2. Connect lessons to the real world 3. Collaborate with fellow educators and professional organizations 4. Remember your "Why"
What does it look like when biology leaps off the page and into the MakerSpace? Join 7/8 Grade Science teacher Carli Rivers as she discusses one of Harley's Middle School projects: building 10-foot-tall oversized plant and animal cells. Instead of just labeling a diagram, Carli's students took to the MakerSpace to engineer life-sized models. Working in pairs to tackle specific parts of a cell, students had to collaborate, problem-solve, and build. In this video, Carli shares: Why the process of building is as vital as the biological facts themselves. How the MakerSpace became an extension of the science lab. The impact of scale: Why exploring a 10-foot cell creates a memory that lasts longer than a textbook chapter.
I was recently reading the November-December 2025 issue of "The Science Teacher", a publication of the National Science Teaching Association. In this episode of Forskningspodden, we sit down with Biology researcher Stina Eriksson, whose work sheds new light on a tool many science teachers rely on every day: analogies. Analogies help students grasp tricky scientific ideas by connecting them to something familiar – but when used carelessly, they can create misconceptions. Stina's research investigates the knowledge and skills required by science teachers to use analogies as pedagogical tools. Stina has done this by developing the Analogy Competence for Science Teachers (ACT) framework, which clarifies what teachers need to know and do to use analogies effectively. The framework breaks analogy use into three parts: choosing accurate analogies, planning how to introduce them, and guiding students through the analogical reasoning process. In our conversation, we learn more about the ACT framework and how it can be helpful for science teachers. Stina Eriksson’s licentiate thesis can be downloaded from DiVA: Analogy competence for science teachers: The development and validation of the ACT framework

Growth is measured, not imagined. In this week's episode, I share why I believe the most successful shows don't rely on chance. Instead, they follow a process of testing, tracking, and measuring, just like a science experiment. Over the years and thousands of episodes, I've learned that intuition comes from data and that real growth happens when you stop guessing and start applying systems. If you've ever wondered why your show isn't growing the way you want, or how top podcasters keep winning. I've got some answers you won't want to miss.Learn more about:

Hello out there Sandwich Artists! Quick announcement here from Amanda at Poirot Pod. We are delighted to see that people are still following us after our long hiatus! We wanted to let you know the book we are reading next is“They Came to Baghdad,” in case you want to read it along with us before we release that episode, which we anticipate to be somewhere between 3 and 53 weeks from now. (I just started it and am really enjoying it! ) Shout out to the request for the next book announcement from Selçuk in 2023. You ask, and 2 years later, PoirotPod, sort of, delivers. We do hope to remember to announce the next book at the end of each episode as well as remember to complete the Portia scale, but no promises, as you see how minimally functional we have become in the middle of the night recording these days. Relatedly, you'll be able to rely on continued butchered pronunciation, Selçuk, which I do hope I'm not doing terribly badly at this moment to your name. Special sandwich artist shout out to Trey, Selçuk, Alejandro, Chawna, Kat, Science Teacher, Aisha, and the various scammy porn bot accounts that have reached out to our email. We diligently check that account every 9 to 24 months, and are legit so happy to see your emails! Side note, I am desperately missing the original royalty free intro music we used, so if anyone out there is fluent in Riverside, which is the new app where the corporate monsters have moved us to these days, and knows how to fix it, please let us know! Yours in crime, PoirotPod!

Late last year, the 2024 recipients of the Prime Minister's Prizes for Excellence in Science Teaching were announced. The national Prizes recognise and celebrate the role primary and secondary educators play in inspiring and encouraging students to take up an interest and consider careers in STEM. So for this episode of School Improvement, we had the pleasure of speaking with Alice Leung from Concord High School in New South Wales and Daniel Edwards from Montello Primary School in Tasmania about the work they've been recognised for with this Prize. If Daniel Edwards' name sounds familiar to you, it might be because we spoke with Daniel early last year all about the value of teaching STEM as a subject. Our conversation with Daniel shares some other great insights, such as some favourite learning activities to run in the classroom. We also asked Alice to share some of her favourite lesson activities, and we're sure they might be ones you might like to consider working into your lesson planning this year if you're a secondary science teacher. Guest: Elizabeth Vosseller, Founder of Growing Kids Therapy Center and I-ASC Host: Vaish Sarathy, Math and Science Teacher, Learning Strategist This episode challenges the assumption that low cognitive skills in children with disabilities are due to a lack of intelligence. Instead, the conversation focuses on how motor skill limitations can significantly impact a child's ability to communicate and learn. Elizabeth Vosseller is a speech therapist and founder of S2C (Spelling to Communicate). She talks to me this week about how Motor Issues Autism can seem like cognitive disorders. For more details visit here. “What we observe often is the body. We can't really observe intelligence directly.” Tune in to listen to how powerful using motor-skills appropriately can be. Key Takeaways: Traditional assessments of intelligence often rely on motor skills, which can be misleading for children with motor difficulties. Speech itself is a fine motor skill, and difficulties with speech production can be a sign of underlying motor challenges. Sensory processing issues can further complicate motor skills and communication. Many children with disabilities, including Down syndrome and autism, experience difficulties with motor skills. The "least dangerous assumption" is to believe a child may be capable of more than they can currently demonstrate. Get In Touch:

[2.5+ HOUR LONG SHOW! JOIN THE PIZZA FUND! $12 level. https://podawful.com/posts/2483] MOLESTERY SCIENCE TEACHER 3000: My former high school teacher, David Kielbowick, was an odd duck that all the kids laughed at and ridiculed. He couldn't look the kids in the eyes. He had a tremble in his voice. But he was a pretty decent teacher, and I always thought he was ok. Turns out I was wrong. A few years ago, Kielbowick was arrested on absolutely HORRIBLE, predatory charges, involving a minor female family member. I didn't even know this was illegal, but apparently he made cheese pizza with her. I dunno, maybe he used the wrong type of sauce or something. Anyway, I decided to dig down into this rabbithole and unlock a few mysteries about this story that always bugged me. Who was the family member? Were there any signs or red flags? Turns out, not only was there evidence in plain sight all along, but he had uploaded it himself to Youtube a year before his arrest. And after everything I've uncovered, I've formulated an even DARKER, SICKER theory, that makes an already horrifying story even worse. Did you know that food is the most important “school supply?” Join Food Sleuth Radio host and Registered Dietitian, Melinda Hemmelgarn, for her interview with Stephen Ritz, award-winning science teacher and founder of the Green Bronx Machine. Ritz teaches in the poorest school district in the nation but has turned children's lives around with food and love. He explains how food injustice is racial injustice, and that the cheap and convenient foods readily available in his students' neighborhood are in reality, costly and deadly. He views children like seeds – full of potential. Ritz describes how his successful model of science education (growing food in the classroom) began and continues to thrive. Ritz, his students and the power of the Green Bronx Machine are featured in the documentary film, Generation Growth: https://generationgrowthfilm.com/Related Websites: Americans Who Tell The Truth: https://americanswhotellthetruth.org/portraits/stephen-ritz/ https://greenbronxmachine.org/ Generation Growth: https://greenbronxmachine.org/generation-growth/
