THE SECOND EPISODE of the show features one of my best friends - producer, engineer, and video director Rocco Guarino. I first met Rocco in the era of Myspace. At the time, I was a skinny highschool kid with a bootleg Motley Crue haircut. I'd just begun falling in love with music and learning how to play guitar, and Rocco was working with one of my favorite bands Velvet Revolver and their singer, the late Scott Weiland. From working together on my first recordings when I was a teenager, to the six-hour Zoom call that I trimmed into this podcast and then sat on for two months - and every 3AM Canter's Deli trip in between - Rocco has been an monumentally encouraging friend, collaborator, and mentor. ROCCO AND I talk about the early experiences that led us both to careers in music, his early adventures in Los Angeles working on sexually-suggestive movie sets, the mayhem of touring with a platinum-selling rock band, directing a music video for VR, and how some of the nightmare recording sessions we've worked on together have also resulted in some of the most fun we've ever had. Good Morning Veterans, Family, Friends, and Everyone else who wants to listen in on the SECOND EPISODE of the Veteran Doctor Podcast. My name is Dr. John Heintzelman and I am your host and the founder of the Veteran Doctor. So first off some of you are probably wondering why is this podcast called Veteran Doctor? Great Question. So, you are probably wondering, is he really a Doctor? Yes, I actually am! Not in the Medical sense, but I have a Ph.D. So, my academic resume includes a Master’s degree in Sports and Performance Psychology and a Doctorate in Psychology where my specialty lies in Research. I also am a retired Army Airborne Infantry Veteran with 22 years of service. So, Veteran Doctor kind of fits, and as you keep listening you will see how it all works out. On this week’s Podcast, we will be discussing the holidays and veterans. During this time of year, it is always a wonderful time for most people, but for many, it can be a stressful and conflicting time due to past events in their lives. Many veterans have deployed multiple times during the holidays, and currently, many soldiers are deployed during this holiday season. Many experience an array of emotions during this time of year from injuries in combat during the holiday period. So, it is good to try to think of the holidays with whimsical feelings of warmth, comfort, and good cheer to help compensate for the negative experiences of the past. How is this done, you ask? It is not very easy, but there are many ways in doing so. Being with family is a great way to help distract these negative feelings. The holidays offer a unique opportunity for families to connect and spend quality time together having fun, both locally and away from home. Another way is to decorate the house for Christmas both inside and outside to spread the good cheer to other neighbors. This can become infectiously in the neighborhood and fun for everyone if you do it in a creative and constructive manner. Another great way is to volunteer or donate to a veteran’s organization. During this time of year, they have Christmas Tree Wish Lists, Christmas Dinners, Shelters, and other events that need help to provide for veterans and their families who are having either tough times or maybe experiencing stress from deployments overseas. That brings up another subject of the Soldiers who are currently deployed. Do not forget about them. We were those guys too at one time in the past. We know how it feels to be deployed during the holidays. They need words of encouragement from people who have been there and can relate to what they are going through. Here are some helpful tips in letter writing to deployed service members. This is both therapeutic for them and well as it is for you.

Hey Guys! Welcome to the SECOND EPISODE of the Money On My Mind Podcast. Today I interview David Angel, a sales guru with over $20,000,000 in sales, a restaurant-owning chef, a businessman and a sales coach. We talk about how David got his start as a salesman without a university degree with him starting as a door-door salesmen. We then venture onto why he believes having many streams of income is very important (once you have an established job), and why his breakdown changed him for the better. Thank you so much for listening to the first episode. I really enjoy this long-format speech, and will continue to be better and improve the podcast. Hope you enjoy listening!

Second Episode better than the first one?
In FedRadioDetroit’s Second Episode, Dr. Howard Lupovitch Defines, Debunks and Details Anti-Semitism’s Past and Present After the Tree of Life massacre in Pittsburg, everything changed for Jewish Americans. You could no longer talk about anti-Semitism in America the way you could the day before. That may sound like a bold statement, but it’s one that Dr. Howard Lupovitch makes and backs up in FedRadioDetroit’s most recent episode. “For a long time in the United States, anti-Semitism was a relatively marginal phenomenon,” says Lupovitch. “We could talk about a significant difference between anti-Semitism in Europe and anti-Semitism in the United States, because, up until a year ago, anti-Semitism in the US had been largely non-violent. [Tree of Life] really changed the situation. It was the first instance of real mass violence against Jews in America..” Dr. Lupovitch is an associate professor of history and director of the Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic Studies at Wayne State University. He specializes in modern Jewish History, specifically the Jews of Hungary and the Habsburg Monarchy. He is also a well-known author and lecturer and one of our foremost experts on the topic of anti-Semitism here in the Metro Detroit area. FedRadioDetroit hosts Beverly Liss and Sam Dubin welcomed Dr. Lupovitch in the studio earlier this month to discuss the alarming rise anti-Semitism in the United States. In this episode, he also explains the history of hate against Jews in this country and clarify some common misunderstandings including the difference between right and left wing anti-Semitism and what we really mean when we say “anti-Semitism” and “anti-Zionism.” You can listen to the episode in its entirety. Stay tuned for Episode #3 coming out next month.

In our Second Episode, Pastor John and I sit down to tackle the subject of Evangelicals and the Life of the Mind. Using Mark Noll's book, The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind, as a jumping-off point, we do a deeper dive into the history of evangelicalism in America, describing the emergence of fundamentalism (and dispensationalism) and the growing strain of anti-intellectualism that so often marks evangelicalism in contemporary American life. We discuss how evangelicals' loss of power and influence in culture repeatedly leads to over-reaction, rejection of culture (rather than a deeper witness and engagement with ideas and issues in culture), and finally, legislation. A very real historical cycle of revival, dissolution/corruption, and reaction can be seen repeating through this history from the Puritans through the 19th century up to the present day. As we trace these patterns, we encounter such touchstone moments as the Salem Witch Trials, both Great Awakenings, the birth of Fundamentalism, the Scopes Monkey Trial, and the rise of the Moral Majority. Finally, *gasps for air* we attempt to encourage a way forward for Christians seeking to have a genuine, long-term witness to Christ in our culture, Christians who want to engage the life of their minds, who want to be able stay engaged in the important debates of their time for the sake of the world and the glory of God.
