TUNE IN TO LEARN: Behavior change is the foundation of all transformation, yet we often approach it backward. Instead of trying to change people's deeply-held beliefs or identities, the most effective approach starts with small, simple behavioral shifts that gradually reshape how people see themselves. And that changes what people choose to do or not do.Isn't this what sales are all about? An invitation to change?Drawing from behavioral science research and personal experience as a change consultant, this episode reveals why attempting to change people's minds directly often backfires by triggering resistance. The key insight comes from understanding that our brains are wired to conserve energy - learn how the best salesmen and business owners use it when designing products. This perspective shift has profound implications for anyone trying to create change. Instead of asking, "How can I persuade or motivate others?" start asking, "How can I make the desired behavior easier and simpler?" Stop expecting people to leap into new ways of thinking, and instead create pathways for them to tiptoe forward with minimal resistance. Whether you're trying to transform yourself, your team, your organization, or sell more - this episode provides actionable tools that will start things moving. In the 20th installment of the Inside JABA Series, I'm joined by Drs. Brennan Armshaw, Manish Vaidya, and Sachen Mehta. As always, I'm also joined by JABA Editor in Chief, Dr. John Borerro. In this episode we discuss a fantastic paper that is out in the summer issue of JABA titled, “Surface electromyography-based biofeedback can facilitate recovery from total knee arthroplasty.” In brief, this study that examined a novel treatment approach for rehabilitating patients following knee replacement surgery. And guess what, they used simple behavioral techniques to radically improve physical therapy outcomes! Orthopedics is something that's been on my mind lately as I am recovering from a broken metacarpal bone in my hand. It's probably something of interest to others who have either had orthopedic problems themselves, or who have taken care of hose who have. However, even if you're not interested in orthopedics, I encourage you to really dig into this episode because it's just a great case study of applying our science to a novel problem that affects millions of people . As always, there are no advertisements in the Inside JABA Series shows, but I will mention that if you would like to get a CEU for listening to this episode an answering series of questions related to its content, you can find out how to do just that by clicking here. Perception vs. perspective has either ended businesses before they got off the ground or saved businesses with a phenomenal pivot. Many entrepreneurs, startups, business leaders, marketers, and go-to-market specialists need to acknowledge that their perception of themselves, value, product, service, or interpretation of the marketplace can be flawed, narrow-minded, or completely inaccurate. To combat this, you must embrace gaining a better perspective by exploring other possibilities of the source of truth beyond what you see, know, can identify, or believe at times. The more value threads you create in the minds and literal usability of the consumer, the stronger the bonds, and the higher the probability of becoming a buyer, an advocate, a connection conductor, and part of an engaging community of support, referrals, and brand resonance. The question is, how do you create and maintain value threads effectively? Most brands will tell you they put the customer first. But how far are they really willing to go? For instance, how many companies make consumer needs priority over the fiscal bottom line? How many brands would be willing to recommend a competitor's product if it served their customer's needs better? Probably not a lot. In our newest frog report, 'The New Terms of Engagement' we explore these tensions with our guests and report authors Bhavesh Unadkat, Vice President of Brand, Marketing and Content Services UK, frog, Kerry Lee, Director of Commerce and Customer Transformation UK, frog and Christopher Baird, Global Head of Loyalty. At a time of unconditional responsibility, where consumers care more than ever about their purchasing decisions and customer experiences, with an eye toward sustainability, inclusivity and purpose, companies may need to change the way they act and communicate to meet a consumer base looking for more meaning in their marketing and commerce interactions.Brought to you by frog, a global creative consultancy. frog is part of Capgemini Invent. Between wrapping up spooky season and Diana's high school friends tracking her down, we're sure thankful to have the time to discuss all the episodes coming out in this long-ish month. First, we finally get to talk about Direct Instruction, thanks to our awesome patrons. Then we discuss new ways to think about collboration, behavior analysis in the training of dogs, and treatment of sleep problems in ASD, though not necessarily all in the same episode. I'm sure special guests Rose Griffin, Emily Varon, and Ran Courant-Morgan and Dr. Stephanie Keesey-Phelan will get those topics straightened out.
