BONUS EPISODE – Pack your bags for Italy and dust off some clues with us as we dig into our first episode of a new ongoing bonus series – Ancient Venues. For this first episode we take a look at the Amphitheatre of Capua (Anfiteatro Campano), located in modern day Santa Maria Capua Vetere, Italy. We are joined by Valerie Higgins, Associate Professor of Archaeology at The American University of Rome, who guides us through the history of this legendary venue from the Roman Empire. The current amphitheatre sits on the site of two former, smaller amphitheatres, the first of which is presumed to have been built close to 100 B.C. It is second in size only to the Roman Coliseum and is located next to what was the most notable school for gladiators, where Spartacus was from and began his rebellion. We learn all about this incredible venue, historic venue terminology, seating and ticketing, events that were hosted, why large scale events like this took place, concessions and design, and its fascinating hypogeum – located under the arena floor where they staged scenery and warriors for the events. Whether you're a venue nerd or a history buff, or a little of both, you'll love hearing all about this ancient wonder that helped shape the venues we all know and love today.Valerie Higgins: Website | Papers | Book ––––––ADVENTURES IN VENUELANDFollow on Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, or X/TwitterLearn more about Event & Venue Marketing ConferenceMeet our team:Paul Hooper | Co-host, Booking, Branding & MarketingDave Redelberger | Co-host & Guest ResearchMegan Ebeck | Marketing, Design & Digital AdvertisingSamantha Marker | Marketing, Copywriting & PublicityCamille Faulkner | Audio Editing & MixingHave a suggestion for a guest or bonus episode? We get back to covering actual Worst Picture Winners with 1998's An Alan Smithee Film: Burn, Hollywood, Burn, winner at the 19th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards! You can tell how excited we were to talk about this one by how long we talk about whether Batman's a fascist in the opening. We break down what did and didn't work about the movie, marvel at how anyone could possible cast Harvey Weinstein in an on-screen role, dig into what went wrong with this film's bizarre soundtrack, lambast Joe Esterhaz's lazy writing while defending his Wookiee-like appearance, and try to grasp how a movie like this can be so bad that the director took an Alan Smithee credit himself unironically. We come up with film aliases for ourselves, Jack recounts a bathroom crime, and Joe struggles and fails to remember the title of Comedy Central's single-season adult animated series Kid Notorious about producer Robert Evans. Get comfy, enjoy the episode, and please let us know if you know anything about Michael Ovitz. This week, we watch the film that allowed Stanley Kubrick full creative control over all his subsequent projects. This film was out of his control, however, and he later tried to disassociate himself from it. Structured as one half war epic and the other half sappy romance, Kirk Douglases chin might not be enough to save this one. Spartacus (1960), directed by Stanley Kubrick.
McKay tells his story about his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He shares his experiences on his mission and how another missionary groomed and abused multiple missionary companions. He shares his insight about the culpability of the church leadership in unsafe coniditions for young missionaries.

After much speculation, Sony's revamped PlayStation Service has been revealed. Long gone is the code name Sparticus and what we have left is simply…PlayStation Plus. But don't let the name fool you, this service is all-new, mostly. With multiple options, a soft release window, and a handful of titles announced, we dig into PlayStation's newest offerings for current and legacy generation games in their updated subscription model. Some time ago an action RPG set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter was leaked. Finally, after much anticipation, we have seen real gameplay; approximately twelve minutes worth. Hogwarts Legacy dazzled fans during its proper reveal by PlayStation, which featured in a solo State of Play. We give our first impressions of the long-running franchise's biggest game to date. You have all asked for it and Fortnite has finally granted your wish; you no longer have to build. Simply dubbed “Zero Build”, the world's most popular battle royale is reaching new heights by staying on the ground. Will this get us playing again? Most assuredly not, but we weigh in anyway. All that and much more on this week's episode of Oblivious Games….RIGHT NOW!!!! Music: Electric Mantis - Daybreak https://youtu.be/Lz68DccWZ4U

You ready for this, Playa? Welcome back to the Player's Club! This week, Emmett Watkins Jr and Allan Muir are reunited to talk about the upcoming upgrade to both PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now that is currently code-named “Sparticus”. It's expected to be announced this month, so we decided to meet list the games we hope to see arrive with this service. It's rumored to featured classic PlayStation games heavily, so until they announce what that actually means, we meet Sony halfway and talk about games from PlayStation's past we want to see return. From forgotten PS3 shooters to PS2 classics to PSP cult classics, we go through every console and handheld to advocate for our favorites. But first, in our Whatcha Playin segment, Al talks about their time with Pokemon White and Pokemon: Legends Arceus while Emmett talks about his time with recent releases Risk of Rain 2: Survivors of the Void DLC and Shadow Warrior 3. Spirituality is something that some of us inherit while others must go on a journey to find. Debbie Kirsch was raised in a loving, nominally Jewish household that she describes as simply “American.” In her youth, Jesus was a fascinating figure, but one as remote as Zeus or Sparticus. In college, experiences with Christians and praise music drew her in... so far, in fact, she joined a Christian household made up of a young family and other singles modeled on First Century Christianity as it is described the Bible in the Book of Acts. Today Debbie’s Christian faith is half a century in the making. She shares with Fr. Scott how faith helps her through the trials of living with an abundance of physical pain, and, for the past decade, in a wheelchair.
Talking bee-realism, female friendship and the intoxication of undeserved power and position, Charles Adrian revisits the three books he was given by guests at the end of the third season of the podcast. More information and a transcript of this episode is at http://www.pageonepodcast.com/. Correction: Contrary to what Charles Adrian says in this episode, The Bees by Laline Paull is not really a Sparticus story. Flora 717 is, in effect, an enslaved bee but she does not exactly gather an army to revolt against her hive and nor is she defeated ultimately. You can read about what is known of Sparticus in Live Science here: https://www.livescience.com/39730-spartacus.html and about Cape honey bees (who, while more likely to be parasites than slaves, display traits similar to Flora 717) on Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_honey_bee. It is also possible that there is no type of bee that is, in fact, known to enslave other types of bee in the way that ants do. You can read about enslaved ants and cuckoo bees on the OUP blog here: https://blog.oup.com/2016/02/enslaved-ants-and-cuckoo-bees/ Clarification: While Charles Adrian mentions radio waves as an example of damaging human intervention in the natural world, he is not a 5G truther; he is taking an example from the book (The Bees by Laline Paull) which may be based on contemporary research. You can read about a study into the effect of cell phone radiation on bee behaviour in the PMC here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3052591/ and about 5G truthers in The Atlantic here: https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2020/05/great-5g-conspiracy/611317/ You can read about the waggle dance that foraging bees perform for other members of their colony on Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waggle_dance You can read about The Hero’s Journey on Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero%27s_journey Also mentioned in this episode are Tom Brown’s Schooldays by Thomas Hughes, The Prisoner Of Zenda by Anthony Hope and Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov; Pale Fire is discussed in Page One 119 and Page One 151. You can read about the Schleswig-Holstein question on Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schleswig-Holstein_Question and in the Encyclopaedia Britannica here: https://www.britannica.com/event/Schleswig-Holstein-question Books discussed here were previously discussed in Page One 104 (http://www.pageonepodcast.com/season-3#/104-daniel-elliot/), Page One 105 (http://www.pageonepodcast.com/season-3#/105-tina-sederholm/) and Page One 106 (http://www.pageonepodcast.com/season-3#/106-neil-spokes/). Jamaica Way - Luciano – The Messenger We spoke with Luciano and he reasoned on Rastafari and his visit to Africa. This podcast features that commentary along with a series of ”mutant singles” by Luciano. Mutant in the sense that they are all 7” releases not thought to be widely distributed (not on albums or major labels). In the late 80’s – early 90’s, Luciano recorded dubplates for neighborhood sounds until he and Ricky Trooper crossed paths. Trooper recognized Luciano’s singing ability and took him to the Aquarius recording studio in Half Way Tree Square. Fatis Burrell of Exterminator Productions managed Luciano along with Sizzla and Turbulance at a time of dramatic growth of the Bobo Dread movement. Over time Luciano expanded his recording limitlessly, recording on singles, albums and under contract with International labels. Luciano clearly does not believe in overexposure. In the early 1980’s when Yellowman and singer Don Carlos released volumes of singles and albums, some felt that recording and releasing too much would be harmful to an artist. Overexposure appears to be a thing of the past as the baritone voice of Luciano has benefitted from recording widely, now with over 40 albums in his wake. *Thanks to the Central Village Crew from Cleveland – Survivalist, Sparticus, Willpower, and Tan Tan. Much to our disgust, Mark provides further updates on the status of his dog's anal health. A shocking new plot line is developed for Little House on the Prairie, and Mike discovers that Steve's wife wishes he had nicer friends. In movies we check out Oz. Is it Great? Is it Powerful? Also up for review is Identity Thief, possessor of a great trailer, but does it have the script to match? On the small box we finally get a look at the much anticipated Bates Motel. Mark is disturbed at how excited Mike is about this. Second TV is the new offering from the History Channel, Vikings, where Gabriel Byrne and a bunch of Canadians play Sparticus in the cold. Shaun sends us a super hero themed Bag Of Cans which triggers Mark into a flurry of super hero previews which somehow all fade into a Gwyneth Paltrow induced haze.

Raider Nation Podcast - Oakland Raiders News and Opinion with Raider Greg
TOPICS: Segment #1: "Raiders Beat Chiefs In Overtime 23-20" The Chiefs got out to a 10-0 lead early, the Raiders had little offensive output in the first half, but the defense was tough the whole game. Special teams started the 2nd half with a kickoff return for a touchdown and Raiders were on their way. The Raiders took the lead, the Chiefs took it back, then the Raiders tied the game at the end of regulation to send it into overtime. Jacoby Ford had one of several huge catches to set up the winning field goal after the Raiders defense held the Chiefs to 3 and out in their opening possession of overtime.
