Hey gang! It's the 49th episode of Sprinklez!Today we have three HBO shows you are sure to love!!First off my brother recommended,  Station Eleven (HBO Max) which is a show about a pandemic (no not this pandemic) and surpise: iit doesn't have any zombies!! It is such a beautiful, impactful, at times it is a Shakespearean tragedy you shouldn't allow yourself to miss!Secondly, I heard a review of HBO's Somebody Somewhere, on NPR and started watching it and immediately fell in love with this dramedy (I hate that word). It is funny but oh so real. You will laugh-out-loud and cry at the same time.Downton Abby fans rejoice with Julian Fellowes new work: The Gilded Age (HBO MAX). Glamorous and soapy, what's not to love?!This week's tasty-treat-sensation is the new Coca-Cola with Coffee, its addictive and delicious but not overly caffeinated, try the Vanilla flavored one! Tangent:Tron Uprising is amazing anime on Disney +.

Oops!  Jennifer forgot the show was called Circa SUNDAY Night,  and posted this week's episode on Monday.   But, we'll forgive her this time because tonight's show is all about the Gilded Age in New York, and as this episode of Circa Sunday Night goes up, a new episode of the HBO drama The Gilded Age is airing as well.  Wait...could this have been part of her brilliant plan all along?  We'll never know.  But what we can say is that tonight's show is weird.  One minute we're talking about Downton Abby, the next we're talking about the Vanderbilts, and somewhere in between we're taking a stroll down memory lane with Jennifer as she recounts key moments from high school at her old hometown's soon-to-be-demolished shopping mall.  On second thought, it's not so weird; it's just another romp around Circa 19xx Land.  Once we leave Jennifer's childhood mall we'll make our way to a sparkling 19th Century dinner party, meet the Mrs. Astor, and learn about the fine art of ormolu.  It's all in a night's work.  Won't you come along?Hey, did you know that Jennifer's on YouTube now?  Please visit her channel and subscribe.  She's desperate.Circa 19xx Land on YouTubeShow LinksReally beautiful and awesome books for this episode:The Gilded Age in New York by Esther CrainA Season of Splendor: The Court of Mrs. Astor in Gilded Age New York by Greg KingWhen the Astors Owned New York by Justin KaplanThe Gilded Age: Overture to the American Century by Alan AxelrodArticleExamples of Ormolu:  The Mayfair GalleryArticle about Ormolu: The Mayfair Gallery BlogUrban Explorer Video about White Lakes Mall that Upset JenniferLook for the Orange Julius Canopy!Circa 19xx LandYouTube ChannelWebsiteInstagramMeet your Podcaster

You will love hearing Laura Thomas's story today, not only because she's from the UK and sounds like she lives at Downton Abby, but because her love for God and others shines through everything she says. Laura is an author, speaker, and mentor and blogs at laurathomasauthor.com. She dreamed of becoming a writer as a child and kept it a secret dream for 20 years, and now is a published writer of mostly Christian fiction.  Laura will be giving away a signed, personalized copy of The Glass Bottom Boat - first in her Flight to Freedom Series. Leave comment to be entered! Her legacy is storytelling not just because she writes stories but because she has seen the value of how our stories can touch and encourage others. We don't have to have a grand story of success or a painful story of crisis to have our story be used of God. He's created us uniquely and all stories are of value. A published Christian author, Laura writes heartwarming encouragement for your soul. She has three Christian romantic suspense novels published as well as a Christian teen fiction trilogy, marriage book, middle-grade novel, several anthology books, devotionals, articles, and stories in magazines and online. Laura is a chocoholic mom of three, married to her high school sweetheart—originally from the UK, they live in Kelowna, British Columbia as audacious empty-nesters.Find more on her website: https://www.laurathomasauthor.com INSTAGRAM: @lauracthomas  FACEBOOK PAGE: @LauraThomasAuthor TWITTER: @Laura_Thomas_ PINTEREST: lauracthomas GOODREADS: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/5837074.Laura_Thomas BOOKBUB: https://bit.ly/2Uj4gyRYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAIg1LlXedxtfqmEAssdgnQ   “A storytellers' job is to find the common threads in this tattered world and hold them out so that a reader will grab and pull until the veil is torn in two and they behold the heart of God.” --Robin Jones Gunn   “After nourishment, shelter, and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.” --Philip Pullman   And here's Laura's recipe for her go-to chocolate cake, the perfect accompaniment to a good story!   "PERFECT CHOCOLATE CAKE" Ingredients: 2 cups sugar 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 cups cocoa 1 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 2 tsp vanilla 2 eggs 1 cup milk 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1 cup boiling water (Frosting) 1/4 cup butter or marg (melted) 2 cups icing sugar 1/4 cup cocoa 1/2 tsp vanilla 1-3 tsp milk as needed   Directions: 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees 2. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl 3. Add eggs, oil, milk, and vanilla— mix well 4. Carefully stir in boiling water (batter will be thin) 5. Jesus replied simply: "Love God, love your neighbor." I imagine He was thinking,"It's not rocket science" or "What's not to like?" or  "It's not complicated." He was right, it's not complicated. Merry Christmas Noir Fans! We hope you enjoy our Christmas set noir pick for this episode, in which Carly yet again confuses Jason with her pigs in blanket crisps and Jason is unveiled as a closet Downton Abby fan. Lady in the Lake is a 1947 American film noir that marked the directorial debut of Robert Montgomery, who also stars in the film. The picture also features Audrey Totter, Lloyd Nolan, Tom Tully, Leon Ames and Jayne Meadows. The murder mystery was an adaptation of the 1943 Raymond Chandler novel The Lady in the Lake. The film was Montgomery's last for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), after eighteen years with the studio. Montgomery's ambition was to create a cinematic version of the first-person narrative style of Chandler's Philip Marlowe novels.[notes 1] With the exception of a couple of times when Montgomery (in character) addresses the audience directly, the entire film is shot from the viewpoint of the central character. The audience sees only what he does. MGM promoted the film with the claim that it was the first of its kind and the most revolutionary style of film since the introduction of the talkies. The movie was also unusual for having virtually no instrumental soundtrack, the music in the film being instead provided by a wordless vocal chorus. The film did not use Raymond Chandler's own 195-page screenplay adaptation dated July 5, 1945 which he wrote for MGM, but instead used a 125-page version written by Steve Fisher, which was filmed two years later.[2] The film's script changes the novel's midsummer setting to Christmastime, frequently using holiday themes as an ironic counterpoint to the grim aspects of the story. The opening credits are shown on a series of Christmas cards, which turn out to be concealing a gun. Directed by Robert Montgomery Screenplay by Steve Fisher Based on The Lady in the Lake 1943 novel by Raymond Chandler Produced by George Haight Starring Robert Montgomery, Audrey Totter, Lloyd Nolan, Tom Tully, Leon Ames, Jayne Meadows, Richard Simmons, Morris Ankrum Cinematography Paul Vogel Edited by Gene Ruggiero Music by David Snell --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/speakeasy-noircast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/speakeasy-noircast/support

We speak with Michael Dorman who is one of the stars of The Secrets She Keeps an Australian psychological thriller that debuts Thursday, July 16th on Sundance Now.The show boasts a great cast that features former Downton Abby star Laura Carmichael who plays Agatha Fyfle and Jessica De Gouw who plays Meghan Shaughnes the wife of Dorman’s character sportscaster Jack Shaughnessy. The story revolves around Meghan, who has two young children and a husband working as a television sportscaster, and Agatha who is single and works at a local mini-supermarket. It is obvious that Agatha envies Meghan, unaware that life inside her beautiful home is more complex than the view from over the fence. Meghan and Jack are experiencing financial and marital troubles – but from Agatha’s perspective, lonely and stocking shelves, things very good. The pair do have one important thing in common: they are both due to give birth around the same day. If Meghan’s baby was unintended, Agatha’s could not be more welcome; she longs to have a child after losing a previous pregnancy at 32 weeks. But they become close and that is when things start to get very interesting and where the plot twists will have you going in circles. It is a very binge-worthy six-part show. I can tell you that once you start watching The Secrets She Keeps you will not want to stop. The show is actually based on Michael Robotham book of the same name, which is inspired by one of the most well known kidnappings of Abbie Humphries. Be sure to check out The Secrets She Keeps starting on Thursday on Sundance Now. Promotional consideration for Stream On with Jim Williams comes from Sling TV. Dan Stevens Talks Eurovision, Stand-Up Comedy, James Bond, and Narrating Audiobooks [The Fourth Wall #22]

Most actors wouldn't consider leaving a role as one of the most popular and beloved characters on one of the most acclaimed BBC costume dramas in it's prime. However, most actors aren't Dan Stevens. To avoid being typecast, the "Downton Abby" alum boldly exited the series in 2012 to pursue a career in American cinema. Since then, Stevens has strived to diversify his filmography. He's had great success in genre films such as "The Guest" and "Colossal" and even lent his musical talents to Disney's live-action "Beauty and the Beast" as The Beast. He also helped challenge cable television and the comic book genre with his titular role in Noah Hawley's thought-provoking series "Legion." All of this is to say that Dan Stevens is a performer with range and someone who's imagination knows no bounds. This summer, Stevens not only returns to the paranoia driven psychological thrillers he's so fond of but lends his charisma and charm to the first-ever Eurovision movie. In Dave Franco's directorial debut, "The Rental," Stevens stars opposite Allison Brie in this timely thriller following two couples who rent an Airbnb for a weekend getaway. Shortly after arriving, they suspect the owner is spying on them. What follows will make audiences reconsider before booking their next Airbnb (if COVID-19 hasn't already). "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga," sees Will Ferrell reteam with "Wedding Crashers" director David Dobkin and former SNL writing partner Andrew Steele. The film tells the story of an Icelandic duo (Ferrell and Rachel McAdams) competing in the world's largest international song competition. While the movie is full of entertaining performances, Stevens steals the show with his turn as the suave and eccentric Russian billionaire Alexander Lemtov. Stevens has an attuned ear when it comes to dialect. In fact, the 37-year-old actor revealed that if he converses with someone for long enough, he'll start unintentionally adopting their speech pattern. More often than not, Stevens' entry point into a character is in how they speak, and his attraction to dialect has informed some of his other career decisions. Many may be unaware, but Dan Stevens is a rather accomplished audiobook narrator with credits ranging from Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express," to "The Illiad" and "The Odyssey," to "Frankenstein," "War Horse," and Ian Fleming's "Casino Royale." Perhaps much of his fascination with audiobooks stems from his love and degree in literature. However, there's something to be said about how Stevens is drawn to words and the endless creativity they inspire when a camera isn't around. Over the course of our conversation with Dan Stevens, we discussed Eurovision, ambitions of pursuing more voice acting, his time doing stand-up comedy, collaborating with a first-time actor turned director on "The Rental," and more. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theplaylist/message

The 1900s are here, and it is a time for change in Europe. Calvacade follows two different families over the first three decades of the 20th century, for better or for worse. Their stories intertwine with achievement (Louis Bleriot's flight over the English Channel), tragedy (the voyage of the Titanic) and war (both the Boer War and World War I). Combining the class commentary of Downton Abby and the time-hopping of Cimmaron, Cavalcade offers an early (and at times depressing) review of the 20th Century.Cinema Cemetary will need to decide if this film is a Cavalcade...or a Cataclysm.Music by Chaz HearneCurrent Rankings:5. Overview of Episode #43 -  Understanding the importance difference between anger and rage. Nine things we all do when we think we are expressing anger, but we're actually expressing rage.   How regression happens to all of us at times, and leads to rage and what we can do about it to move rage to appropriate anger.  Actions we can take to help someone who's in rage.  The Detour Method: The five questions we can use on ourselves or with another to move out of regression and rage. Tell us your favorite guilty pleasure TV show(s): Downton Abby and Poldark What actor would you want to play you in a movie?: Will Smith Timing on Recording: @ 17:00  --- Topic 2: How did the topic of anger become a topic that you write about? Why does this topic matter to you and how did it become part of your specialty? “You are the angriest man I have ever known.”  “I just wanted to do this so that nobody else that I loved or I was loved by would be hurt by my repressed, stored-up, bottled-up anger that I didn't even know that I had.”  " I read every book that was written on anger, and none of them were satisfactory to me because they were leaving out big, big parts. They were leaving out the body, anger management and anger books make it an intellectual and head issue."  People get confused between anger and rage, and using those terms interchangeably as if they meant the same thing. Anger expressed appropriately equals: Energy, intimacy, and serenity.  Anger is about what you said or did or didn't do last night, yesterday or today. Rage is about what you've been saying for 20 years.  Three Ds: Distance, Disaster and Divorce.  Inrager vs. Outrager. Timing on Recording: @ 26:05  --- Topic 3: Triggers. If you're Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired, H.A.L.T. Four drinks metaphor. Rage is contagious, anger is spontaneous. Emotional regression.  Nine things we all do when we think we are expressing anger, but we're actually expressing rage: Shaming Blaming  Demeaning  Demoralizing Preaching  Teaching Judging Criticizing Analyzing Rage is an action or  behavior that numbs people's feelings.  Anger is a secondary emotion and it covers up what people are really feeling.     Timing on Recording: @ 39:45  --- Topic 4: The Detour Method. Catch your rage and regression before you do too much damage. What are your triggers? What are your “buttons?”  Cornerstone for doing the Detour Method: Attention is key, Empathy, Listen to people, Time, give them time, Contact and Release.  The Detour Method questions:  How am I feeling right now? What does this remind me of from my history? (stick with this…) Has there been anything else like this, in my past?  What would I have liked to have said?  What do I wish the other would have said or done?  (Usually moved out of Rage and ready to express anger appropriately- go back to present day session) Now, what do I want to say to this person/in this situation – now?  Examples of the Detour Method Timing on Recording: @ 58:00  --- Topic 5: Changes/differences made as people better understand anger/rage. “I've never heard this before.”  Body signals.  Locate where in the body that they're feeling this overreaction, disproportional reaction. Timing on Recording: @ 1:03:15  --- Topic 6: What to do when you're not the person in rage, but someone around you is. Difference between empathy and sympathy.  Ask questions and listen. Timing on Recording: @ 1:06:20  --- Topic 7: Close. Your billboard – “Treat our children with respect and cherish them and get rid of this petty, scary, inappropriate racism.” Advice to 25/30 year-old self – “Buy stock in Whole Foods, Dell, Microsoft,” and “Just relax.”  Biggest takeaway you want everyone listening to podcast to remember – “Before you make somebody angry, walk a mile in their shoes, and then if they get angry, you're a mile away and you've got their shoes,” and “There-Are-No-Big-Deals.”

Hey Gang!! This is a special themed episode of Sprinklez! It's the PERIOD PIECE show!! This episode is a Victorian/Edwardian bonanza, starting off with my recommendation of the delightfully charming 2007 British series: CRANFORD (Amazon Prime) starring Dame Judi Dench, Julia McKenzie, Julia Sawalha, Michael Gambon, Imelda Staunton, Jim Carter and scores of other amazing actors/actresses. Then I fill you in on PBS's 2002 amazing and enthrallingly educational series MANOR HOUSE (Amazone Prime) which is full of Downton Abby type period drama with a reality show twist. A group of regular people live in a 1906 Manor House for three months living out the roles of either a privileged family or their dutiful servants. It s an Edwardian social experiment gone awry! Fabulous, fascinating and fun. I conclude the episode with a 117 year old Tasty-Treat-Sensation: Hershey's Chocolate Candy Bar! It is still a delectable treat when combined with graham crackers and marshmallows in the form of a s'more!!! Enjoy! Tangent recommendation: Lark Rise to Candleford, 2008 (Amazon Prime, Hulu)

This week an intrepid three man team sets out to right wrongs, deliver justice to the unjust and bring order to chaos... but sadly just ends up just mostly trolling TinTin. In this episode Robin, Tintin and Will chat about such randomness as... Alien, Golden Axe, iPhone 6s, Live action Akira, Xbox Elite controllers and TinTins mum. We also give our thoughts on the latest Downton Abby mobile game... a game Tintin's girlfriend helped make. Despite most of not having played it I think we gave it a fair review.

Listen! During this week’s visit with our trio of Grumpy White Men, we pay tribute to Congressman Aaron Schock, or as we fondly refer to him: Representative Schlock, and his Downton Abby inspired walls.  Cabbage Patch Geoff sings a short, but indignant song about the alleged gag order from Florida Governor Rich Scott, forbidding state employees to mention “Climate change”.  Plus, in our title story, we look at Operation Acoustic Kitty- the CIA’s attempt to train cats as spies (no, we didn’t make it up.)  Plus, during this week’s salute to a Scottish Fisherman, we may have stumbled on the answer to the question: Where did Putin disappear to?  Please give us a listen…and, if you can take the time, review us on ITunes.

MBP Episode #3 opened with a quick description of my whirlwind research trip to Edinburgh and a brief look at the news coming out of the Digital Book World conference (more on subscription services) as well as how Big Brother is watching you when you use your ereader. This week’s podcast introduced a new author, Ashley Weaver, and her debut novel, Murder at the Brightwell, a 1930s mystery set at a posh seaside resort. If you’re a fan of Downton Abby or Agatha Christie’s Tommy and Tuppence novels, this book will appeal to you.
