How do you know when a decision is right for you? What does that vague restless feeling tell you about your current life path? This mini episode is about a key concept I learned from my Orgasmic Meditation training - being on vs. off the spot - and how that concept has influenced the way I look at subtle energetics of life choices. It's been one of the most life-changing concepts I've found. Hope you enjoy it! Key Topics: Having an “off the spot” moment misaligned with a desire [1:05] What is “on the spot” and “off the spot”? [2:24] As in orgasmic meditation, as in life — listening to subtle signs within yourself [4:43] Trusting your instincts to bring you back on the spot [7:00] The difficult emotions that are sometimes coupled with being on the spot [8:10] —- If you're curious about my offerings, visit me at www.megandlambert.com.
Just as soon as we cover a poop-scooping robot, the fleshy beasts could be rendered obsolete by a new robot dog from researchers at Florida Atlantic University. Researchers took the SpotMini from Boston Dynamics, mounted a 3D printed Doberman pinscher head on it, and gave it a brain. Astro was outfitted with a deep neural network, or digital brain, and is being trained to act like a dog. It can understand simple commands like stand, go forward, stop and, the classic, sit. The 100-pound robot has more than a dozen onboard sensors, radar imaging, cameras and a directional microphone it uses to navigate. It also has a pair of kill-crazy digital eyes. Next, the researchers are working on training Astor to understand hand commands, detect colors, understand multiple languages and coordinate with drones. You can imagine a pack of these things autonomously coordinating search and rescue efforts with a swarm of drones. The dog will have facial recognition as well, being able to identify people as well as other dogs. Other potential missions include detecting guns, explosives and gun residue. Nothing on excretion yet. Maybe the Beetl can be retrofitted to clean up oil spots.
Late last night Boston Dynamics dropped a new video of its robot dog, SpotMini, in action. It walks up some stairs (no big deal—it's done that before) and then through some corridors, periodically extending its camera-equipped arm to survey bits of a construction site. Then it walks backwards down some stairs and through a doorway and then … Fade to black.
At the WIRED25 festival in San Francisco Sunday evening, Boston Dynamics' SpotMini robot got onstage and did what no other quadruped robot has done before: It danced the running man like it was born to. It was a bit more, well, robotic than a human, but it illustrated just how far Spot has come: Twenty-five years into both WIRED's and Boston Dynamics' lives, robots have finally grown sophisticated enough to dance through our world. And a lot more than that, of course.

On this episode of The Sofa King Podcast, we oil up the servos and get ready to fight the upcoming robot overlords by exploring the history, robots, and unique funding source of the strangest corporation most people have never heard of—Boston Dynamics. Boston Dynamics was founded in 1992 as a means to fulfill its founder Marc Raibert’s lifelong dream of making robots that are supernatural in their abilities. That’s not creepy at all. It was an offshoot of the prestigious MIT, and its initial goal was to create functioning robotic legs. It did. And then some. Most people who have heard of Boston Dynamics learned of them when their video of their first big robot, Big Dog, went viral in 2005. This robot was meant to be a pack mule for US troops and was able to carry 340 pounds up a 35% hill, even on ice and mud. It worked, but it was too loud since it relied on a diesel generator, so the project was scrapped by DARPA, the group who funded it. But that wasn’t all DARPA funded through Boston Dynamics. In fact, before Google bought the company in 2013, it had given a total of $150 Million to the firm to push the boundaries of robotic innovation, even if they didn’t have a viable product to show for it. That’s what DARPA does, after all; it funds moonshot type projects like the Internet and GPS and gets them to work for the entire world (after, of course the US government uses the hell out of them first). Boston Dynamics was sold off by Google to a Japanese firm called SoftBank once Google realized they made no products to sell (their money came from government contracts, which Google refused to accept). Oh, and they also wanted to distance themselves from the creepy robots that scarred the pants off of everyone with YouTube. Seriously, give them a look at the links below. We talk about Sand Flea, Little Dog, Spot Mini, Atlas, and any number of robots this firm has created. One day, their creations will kill us all. Seriously. Don't even worry about Dyret the robot. At first glance, the scrawny quadruped looks pathetic, as it struggles to walk without collapsing. But keep watching, and you'll see it start to improve—walking slowly, yet ever more proficiently. Dyret the robot is teaching itself to walk. Or even, according to a new class of robotics researchers, evolving. Machines like Cassie the biped or SpotMini the robot dog are quickly mastering locomotion, thanks to line after line of meticulous code.
In this on the road episode of the Dudes n Beer podcast, host Christopher Jordan is joined via skype by special guests Randy Jordan as well as Jon Bowne, host of Jon Bowne Politix and the Blah Blah Show to discuss whether or not Google and Boston Dynamics officially begun Skynet? With the recent announcement by Boston Dynamics that their robots are now learning to walk, run and even jump autonomously, how far away are we from seeing robots in our daily life? With the Spot-Mini robotic dog by Boston Dynamics officially going on sale in 2019, what does the future hold for the relationship between man and machine? With recent advances in Artificial Intelligence as well as the ongoing projects to build digital brains that are analogues of our own human brains, when do we think we'll see the beginning of digital sentience? What are we to make of the fact that scientists have recently performed a successful memory transplant from one snail to another? Why are Google A.I. programmers protesting in droves after a recent announcement that Google is helping develop A.I. for the Pentagon's Drone Program? Larry Snow with the Secure Transportation and Executive Protection News for Monday, May 14th, 2018. In Vehicle News A report from the New York Times found that dozens of people have been poisoned by carbon monoxide after failing to shut off the keyless ignition on their vehicles. Since 2006 at least 28 people have died and 45 others have suffered injuries from the gas after they thought they had turned off their vehicles, the Times found. The report highlights the efforts by some groups to push for new regulations from automakers to combat the problem. Keyless ignition allows drivers to start their cars with the press of a button while an electronic key fob remains in their pocket or purse. The technology first entered the American market in the early 2000s. In 2015, a class action lawsuit claimed there had been 13 carbon monoxide-related deaths linked to keyless ignition cars. A judge dismissed the suit in September 2016. The Times report, published Sunday, indicates the problem may be more widespread than previously thought. The Society of Automotive Engineers, a leading standards group for the auto industry, seven years ago called for requiring automakers to include warning signals — such as a series of beeps — to alert drivers if their cars were left on, according to the Times report. Robots can walk, talk, run a hotel … and are entirely stumped by a doorknob. Or a mailbox. Or a dirty bathtub—zzzzt, dead. Sure, the SpotMini, a doglike domestic helper from Boston Dynamics, can climb stairs, but it struggles to reliably hand over a can of soda. That's why some roboticists think the field needs to flip its perspective. “There are two approaches to building robots,” says Maya Cakmak, a researcher at the University of Washington.

Join us for a very special Important If True, as we celebrate the season by giving thanks. Thanks for treasured relics from childhoods long passed, for new creations from Boston Dynamics, and for the gift of humanity itself—at least for a little while longer. Along the way, we'll answer pressing questions, like: Is a clumsy and dubiously-sentient cube of metal your friend, your enemy, or a citizen of Saudi Arabia? Who will triumph in the inevitable conflict between backflipping robots and totally ripped biojackers? And if a podcaster falls in an empty forest, do their metrics reflect an uptick in engagement? Discussed: Thanksgiving, how holidays are good but terrible, Jake's cursed Pizza Hut lamp, childhood arcade memories, trolling by eBay seller, Boston Dynamics robots SpotMini and Atlas, the slow-brewing robot revolution, Back at it Again at Krispy Kreme, Saudi Arabia granting citizenship to a robot, C-3PO's implied humanity relative to R2-D2, Rian Johnson (director of three upcoming Star Wars movies), Star Trek's Data being fitted with an emotion chip, Star Wars' R2-D2 being fitted with a speech chip, CRISPR-enabled genetic biohacking, totally ripped farm animals, injecting yourself to get totally ripped, the cyberpunkiest cyberpunk shit, Josiah Zayner, super-ripped biojacker CRISPR dudes, swiping CRISPR biojackers on Tinder, "Human Mini-Brains Growing Inside Rat Bodies Are Starting to Integrate," getting clever-girled by thirty ripped pigs, Warner Bros.
