If you've ever found yourself feeling constantly tired — even after a full night's sleep — or like you're pushing through your day on sheer willpower, today's conversation is going to resonate with you. So many busy moms are juggling work, family responsibilities, and full schedules, and somewhere along the way exhaustion just becomes normal.  But what if it's not supposed to feel that way? Today I'm joined by Michelle McCoy, a wife, mom, board-certified holistic functional health coach, and high-functioning fatigue expert who helps midlife Christian women uncover the root causes of exhaustion and restore their energy naturally with God at the center. She's also the host of the globally ranked Treasured Wellness Podcast. In this episode, we talk about the high-functioning fatigue trap many women find themselves in, simple nutrition shifts that can help boost energy, the importance of tracking wellness habits, and a few lab tests to consider when fatigue won't go away. This is such a helpful conversation about listening to your body, stewarding your health well, and remembering that rest was part of God's design for us.  So grab your coffee or tea, settle in, and let's dive in. I pray this episode blesses you! Lionel Messi is a global sports icon and had a deep-pocketed strategic partner at his side. So why did his sports drink brand Más+ fail? The hosts break it down and also discuss how protein snack brand Wilde is turning heads with a new take on a cheesy cracker. Plus, Patrón's Roberto Núñez & David Rodriguez reveal how the leading tequila maker scaled globally without sacrificing its handcrafted roots. Show notes: 0:20: Face Tattoo. Shelf Talkers. Mas Authenticity. Super Salsa. Wilde Ideas. Ray's New Substack? – Ray and John congratulate — and rib — Mike about Arsenal finally winning the Premier League before highlighting opportunities for BevNET Live attendees to connect directly with retail buyers from Whole Foods, Vitamin Shoppe, Wegmans, and Walmart. The conversation then turns to the shutdown of Messi's sports drink brand, Más+, and why celebrity alone isn't enough to build a durable consumer brand, underscoring the importance of authenticity and founder involvement. That theme carries into a discussion of Ithaca Hummus founder Chris Kirby and his new venture, Guillermo's Salsa, with the hosts crediting the brand's early traction to strong execution, product quality, retail expertise, and Kirby's operational experience. The latter half of the episode shifts into rapid-fire product tastings, including Armra's new colostrum soda, which sparks a conversation about rising consumer interest in gut health ingredients and functional beverages. The hosts also heap praise on Wilde, whose protein crackers impress with their Cheez-It-like taste and texture, while spotlighting several other brands, including protein- and probiotic-infused Rogue Snacks, Summer Camp iced tea concentrates, and Holy Tshili chili crisp seasonings. 29:17: Interview: Roberto Núñez & David Rodriguez, Patrón – On location at Patrón Tequila's sprawling hacienda and distillery in Jalisco, Mexico, U.S. National Brand Ambassador Roberto Núñez and Master Distiller David Rodriguez discuss the company's emphasis on craftsmanship and tradition while highlighting the launch of Patrón 100, the brand's new distill-proof tequila. From tahona wheels and copper pot stills to the decision to scale without automation, the conversation offers a rare look inside "the Patrón way" and the philosophy that continues to shape one of tequila's most iconic brands. Brands in this episode: Patron Tequila, Cabu, Trip, Zico, Nantucket Nectars, Culture Pop, Athletic Brewing, Mas+ Messi, White Claw, Prime, Armra, Ithaca Hummus, Guillermo's Salsa, Jalapa Salsa, Svedka, Wilde, Cheez-It, Khloud, Summer Camp, ogue Snacks, Holy Tshili

The Future of Summer Camp, Post-Camp Mystic

I grew up going to all manner of camps: church camp, science camp, French camp, cheerleading camp... if there was a way for me to be away from home (and have a fun packing list), I took it. I loved the freedoms and rituals of camp, the goofy, cool counselors who felt like visions of my potential future, and the cachet that accumulated with each passing summer. Camp was a place where I could be a different person, or at least a better, more likable one. I thought I was a camp person. But when I reached adulthood, I realized my camp-ness was nothing in comparison to the people whose families had dedicated their kids' summers to one camp... for decades. That's what Camp Mystic was — and still is — for thousands of former campers. So when a flash flood last July took the lives of 28 Mystic campers, questions about the future of the camp also became questions about the future of that identity. Kerry Howley spent six months reporting a stunning feature for New York Magazine on the aftermath of the Mystic flood. She joins the pod to answer your questions about Camp Mystic itself, but also the larger culture of camp and its role in identity formation. This conversation's going to stick with me for a very long time. Ep 426 Gratitude, Attitude, Courage: What Summer Camp Taught These Two About Marriage w/Kate & Cole Kelly

Marriage Therapy Radio

Play Episode Listen Later May 26, 2026 45:16

Zach sits down with Kate and Cole Kelly, married co-directors of Camp Equahic in northeastern Pennsylvania and the authors behind the relationship practice they built almost by accident: Three Happys and an Appreciation. What started as a long-distance dating ritual, Kate asking Cole to name three things that made him happy each day just so she could get to know him, became the through line of a 25-year marriage, a shared business, three sons, and a camp community that now serves 450 kids per session from 15 states and 14 countries. The conversation moves across a lot of terrain. Cole grew up in Athens, Georgia, went to Dartmouth, coached golf at the University of Virginia, and came to camp life through Kate, who had already found her footing running a boarding school and never wanted to be in a classroom. Together they took over a camp that was quietly dying after a family ownership dispute, grew it back from the ground up, and built their philosophy around three values they believe transcend religion, background, and age: gratitude, attitude, and courage. Along the way they layered in everything from Viktor Frankl and Tony Robbins to Alison Armstrong's research on how men and women communicate differently, and applied all of it to the work of staying close while also running a business that puts 675 souls in their care every summer. The emotional center of this episode is surprisingly practical. Kate and Cole are not people who talk about their marriage in abstractions. They talk about the appreciation Cole had to ask for because Kate was falling asleep before he got it. They talk about what it cost Kate for Cole to travel most of the year meeting families in person, and why they kept doing it anyway. They built a coming-of-age ritual for their three boys because there was no secular equivalent to a bar mitzvah and they thought someone should. Their oldest son Cole Jr. is getting married this summer at camp, with half the wedding party made up of his childhood bunkmates. This episode is a portrait of two people who decided very early that marriage is a practice, not a feeling, and then built the systems to prove it.Key TakeawaysGratitude is a skill, not a mood. Building a daily habit of noticing what is good, no matter how small, physically changes how you see your partner and your life. The appreciation piece is the one that often gets resisted most and matters most. Telling your partner specifically what you noticed and valued about them that day is different from a general "I love you," and it hits differently too.Scanning for the good in your partner is something you have to train yourself to do. It does not happen naturally for most people. The three happys practice creates the conditions for it.Men and women often process differently, and understanding that is an attitude adjustment in itself. Cole stopped resisting Kate's multi-threaded thinking when he understood it was not chaos; it was wiring.Courage in marriage looks less like big dramatic moments and more like saying the hard thing, asking for help, or admitting you do not have it today.Kids grow by being allowed to fail. Snowplowing the obstacles out of their path also removes the muscle they need to handle real life.Consistency beats perfection. The three happys practice works not because every night is meaningful but because doing it every night makes the meaningful nights possible.A system is not a substitute for connection. It is the container that makes connection repeatable.Guest InfoKate Kelly is the co-director and operational backbone of Camp Weequahic, one of the top co-ed overnight camps in the country. A former boarding school educator, Kate has spent over two decades building systems, leading staff, and quietly running the kind of operation that camp families trust with their kids for up to six weeks at a time. She and Cole are co-authors of the book Three Happys and an Appreciation, available in both a family edition and a couples edition on Amazon.Cole Kelly is the co-director of Camp Weequahic and the front-facing voice of the Kelly family's camp community. A Dartmouth graduate with a background in sports psychology and golf coaching, Cole spends much of the year traveling the country to meet prospective families in person, a practice he refuses to give up despite the flight miles it costs him. He is a student of Tony Robbins, Viktor Frankl, and Alison Armstrong, and has spent years thinking intentionally about how to raise good men, including building a secular coming-of-age program for his three sons and a cohort of their fathers.Website: https://weequahic.com Podcast and relationship resources: https://campfireconversation.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this lively episode of Reading With Your Kids, Jed welcomes author-illustrator Maddie Frost to celebrate her new illustrated middle grade novel, Really Ruby, along with her other upcoming releases. Maddie introduces us to Ruby Fox, an 11-year-old heading off to a month-long summer camp in Vermont—without her best friend Riley, who's sidelined with a broken ankle. Based on Maddie's own camp experiences, the story explores anxiety, homesickness, friendship shifts, and the scary-but-exciting feeling of stepping outside your bubble. Maddie shares her journey from Mass College of Art animation student and restaurant worker to full-time children's book creator—complete with the "no backup plan" leap where she quit her teaching job to seriously pursue books. She talks about the joy of making deeply personal, funny, slightly awkward stories for middle grade readers and how Ruby's doodle-style illustrations let her embrace imperfection and authenticity. We also hear about her whirlwind June releases: Really Ruby, Stuffy Stand (a picture book about burnout, asking for help, and collaboration), and Farm Shark, a wildly silly farm story written by former Simpsons writer Bill Canterbury. Later in the episode, Jed is joined by Paul Paolilli and Dan Brewer, co-authors of Pondering: A Story in Cinquains. Dan, a high school English teacher, explains how the American cinquain form helps kids play with language, rhythm, and imagery, while Paul reflects on ponds, nature, and how poetry invites kids to slow down, observe, and imagine. Together, they and Jed explore how poetic picture books can spark conversations, creativity, and deeper family reading experiences.

We are a blended family of 6 and all of us have disabilities. Some of our kids have complex medical issues as well as intellectual and physical disabilities, and we're increasingly neurodivergent. Summers get emotional, kids get boring, and the parents work from home without a "village" or the luxury of childcare. In this episode of Carpool Conversations, Amy and Sara sit down with Taylor Shannon from ESP (Extra Special People) to talk about what it really means to help kids with disabilities experience belonging. Taylor shares how ESP creates relationship-centered spaces where individuals with disabilities and their families are known, valued, and included, and offers practical encouragement for parents who want to raise compassionate, confident kids who see and celebrate others well. Together, they discuss how to respond when kids ask awkward questions in public, simple ways families can build genuine friendships within the disability community, and what parents should look for when choosing inclusive environments like summer camps. Taylor also speaks directly to parents navigating a new diagnosis or difficult season, reminding them that they are not alone and that their child's value has never changed. Whether your family has firsthand experience with disability or you simply want to help your kids grow in empathy and kindness, this conversation is full of insights, wisdom, and hope. The Bitcoin Matrix

Jeff Casler and Angelo Firenze don't run a Bitcoin conference. They run a Bitcoin camp. Jeff is a serial entrepreneur and MS survivor — co-founder of Camp Nakamoto and @btc_mass, with a thesis-forward "why this matters" voice. Angelo grew up on Sandy Island. He spent decades as director of the original family camp the property was built around — and now runs the Bitcoin version of the same idea. Every summer, the Bitcoin world boards another plane to another conference. And every summer, some of us come home wondering if we actually made a single real connection. This is the conversation about what happens when someone looks at that and decides to build the inverse — four days on a 66-acre private island in Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire. Cabins. Campfires. All-inclusive meals including the Cattleman's Feast. A speaker series that doesn't feel like a speaker series because you're sitting with the speakers at dinner. June 18-21, 2026. I'm speaking there — and I said yes because I believe in what they're building. Their thesis is simple: the typical Bitcoin conference is great for introducing ideas. Camp Nakamoto is great for integrating them. You don't have five minutes after a keynote to ask your question — you have 72 hours. Larry Lapard, Tom Luongo, Efrat Fenigson, Joe Consorti aren't in a green room. They're at breakfast. Around the campfire at sunset. In the cornhole tournament. As Angelo puts it: the whole thing is the lobby. We also get the "last boat" moment — what Angelo realized after the first event in 2025, why he didn't believe it would work until the last ferry pulled away. The 2026 speaker lineup including Tom Luongo, Ben Justman, Efrat Fenigson, Joe Consorti, Seb Bunny, Luke Broyles, Anders Jensen, Matthew Lysiak, Kevin McKernan, Haley Lennon, Brandon Gentile, Beau Turner, Kyle Huber — plus Ainsley Costello playing live. The Cattleman's Feast partnership with Texas Slim's Beef Initiative. And the family case: why parents on the island let their kids run free in a way you don't see in modern society anymore. If you've ever wondered what the post-orange-pill phase actually looks like in person — not on Twitter, not in a conference hallway, but around a campfire with people who showed up for the same reason you did — this is the conversation. We discuss: Introduce vs. integrate — why ideas land differently when you have 72 hours with the speaker instead of five minutes after a keynote, and Angelo's design principle that "the whole thing is the lobby" The "last boat" moment — Angelo's emotional origin moment from the first event in 2025, why he didn't believe it would work until the last ferry pulled away, and what it taught him about the difference between selling tickets and building community The Cattleman's Feast — Texas Slim's Beef Initiative partnership, the grass-fed high-omega-3 steak that made attendees say "the best I've ever had," Peony Lane Bitcoin wine pairing, and why food became one of the strongest brand moments of the first event Kids running free — what happens to parenting when an island full of Bitcoiners decides to let their children explore, why it feels like 1950s parenting in the best possible way, and the case for bringing your family Why community in 2026 matters more than ever — Jeff and Angelo's "we need our peeps" thesis, the move from talking the talk to living the life, and what real-life Bitcoin community looks like after the orange pill metabolizes Subscribe so you never miss an episode.

In this episode of Carpool Conversations, Amy and Marissa sit down with Beth Guckenberger – co-founder of Back2Back Ministries, author, speaker, and mom – to talk about a parenting challenge many families face – helping kids process difficult, confusing, and sometimes complicated news. So how do parents talk honestly about hard things without overwhelming or frightening their kids? Drawing from her experience as a missionary, parent, and ministry leader, Beth shares practical, faith-filled wisdom for navigating tough conversations with confidence and compassion. Together, they discuss how to discern what to share (and what not to share), signs your child may be struggling even when they aren't saying much, simple ways to create safe spaces for emotional processing, and how families can remain rooted in hope when the world feels heavy. If you've ever wondered how to help your kids make sense of complicated news while pointing them back to God's truth, this conversation will equip and encourage you. -- BacktoBack Ministries Trauma Free World Resources Book: Presence Matters by Beth Guckenberger -- Question of the Week: When you hear something bad in the news or in your life, what questions pop into your head? -- Hosts: Amy Lowe and Marissa Ray Guest: Beth Guckenberger Producers: Emily Alters & Cody Braun -- Learn more about WinShape Camps at WinShapeCamps.org! Southern University in Baton Rouge is requesting urgent funds from the state legislature. Interim President Orlando McMeans is asking lawmakers to approve a $19 million one-time investment to help address infrastructure concerns and campus blackouts. The Louisiana Illuminator's Piper Hutchinson joins us with more. The Louisiana legislative session is in its final months, and there have been both wins and losses for environmental causes. There are new protections for river basins, failed efforts to curb carbon dioxide pipeline storage, a lawsuit against the Army Corps of Engineers over dam construction and more. The Louisiana Illuminator's Elise Plunk has been covering it all. She joins us with the latest. The New Orleans-based hair salon Silk Me Kids recently announced the launch of its 2026 summer camp. The program will offer hands-on beauty and barbering experience to youth while helping build their confidence, creativity and styling skills. This summer camp also comes years after many New Orleans schools lost their beauty and barbering programs after Hurricane Katrina. Founder of Silk Me Kids, Megan “Meme” Kelly, tells us more about the summer camp and the significance of grooming programs for kids.—Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Karen Henderson. Our managing producer is Alana Schreiber. Have you ever looked at your life and realized that while everything is "okay" on paper, something is deeply off?   You aren't alone, and I don't think the problem is you. I think the problem is the invisible pressure we all feel to be "good enough" at everything we touch.   Welcome to the first Report from the Creative Closet—a new series of dispatches designed to help you move past the "shoulds" of adulthood and reconnect with your own aliveness. In this inaugural report, I share one of the weirdest but most effective ways I know to escape the perfectionism trap: making bad art on purpose.   In this episode, I discuss: The Falling Down Machines: Why we forget how to learn like toddlers—who fall on their faces and laugh rather than giving up. The 30-Day Experiment: What happened on Day 15 of my journey writing 30 "bad" poems for YouTube. Summer Camp for Critics: How to send your inner critic away on a scary ropes course so you are finally free to play. The Creative Authority: Why doing things "badly" is actually the fastest path back to your real self. My Promise: I will never tell you that you need to force your way through resistance or ignore your intuition to follow a rigid self-help script. I'm here to provide a sanctuary, not another to-do list.   Ready to stop performing and start living? If this resonates, I invite you to join me for a free Creativity Circle. We get together once a month for a relaxed session where you can experiment without any pressure to do anything you don't want to do.
