Raw Talks With Vamshi Kurapati - Telugu Business Podcast

In this Telugu podcast episode, we sit down with Malla Reddy sir,  former Minister and current MLA, whose name alone sparks attention across Telangana. Known for his iconic dialogue “Paalammina, Poolammina,” he is often seen as a viral sensation. But behind the punchlines lies a story of resilience, ambition, and transformation. For the first time, we go beyond the viral clips and political memes to explore the man behind the public persona in a raw, unfiltered, and deeply insightful conversation. We kick off the episode by asking the question everyone wonders: How different is politics from the opposition bench compared to being in power? From his time as Minister in the BRS-led government to now being in the opposition, he reflects on the shifting dynamics of power, governance, and public service. He also opens up about whether political shifts have affected his massive business and educational ventures — the Malla Reddy Group of Institutions, which spans schools, colleges, and universities across the state. We tackle head-on the public criticisms, fee-related controversies, and repeated allegations surrounding the institutions — including hostel issues during floods, net worth queries, and accusations of mismanagement. He responds with clarity and conviction, defending his model while highlighting the need for digital transformation in education, skill-based training, and AI-integrated learning environments. He explains why degrees alone aren't enough anymore, and why skills, tech awareness, and attitude are the real qualifications of the future. The conversation goes even deeper into themes that matter most today — from AI changing the nature of jobs, to reverse migration, poor placement rates in colleges, and why most students still remain unemployable despite their degrees. He questions outdated syllabus, challenges the idea of teacher supremacy, and insists students should be empowered to question and contribute — even correct teachers if needed. He talks about the gap between old education systems and current industry needs, highlighting countries like Japan that have adapted quicker than us.We also dive into his entrepreneurial mindset — how he built massive educational institutions, his financial management, the IT raids, and how he responds to allegations of land encroachments and political misuse. He even addresses the narrative that "outside they fight, inside all politicians are united,” offering his candid take on the perception vs reality of Indian politics.Beyond the institutions and politics, He opens up about his personal story — from surviving TB, the early struggles, his first school, the reason for naming institutions after himself, and his strong bond with his wife and family. He shares emotional moments, the value of hard work and luck, and what continues to drive him every single day, even after achieving wealth, fame, and political power. We also explore lighter yet meaningful moments — his speeches, unique dialogues, lifestyle, and his thoughts on the alcohol and drugs culture among today's youth, the comfort zone generation, and the psychological gap between older and younger mindsets. He reflects on his inspiration, relationship advice, the need to celebrate anniversaries with pride, and whether his kids will inherit cabins — or follow his path of staying accessible to the public.Lastly, he shares bold ideas: what happens if free education is mandated, what the role of AI and dual degrees should be in shaping students, how marketing drives mass admissions, and whether he'll one day enter film production. With honest answers, iconic one-liners, and moments that range from serious to surprisingly humorous, this episode reveals a lesser-known but deeply impactful side of him. It's more than just a political interview — Watch the story behind the headlines. Listen to the man beyond the memes.

Citing national security concerns, the White House said that automobiles would be subject to 25 per cent tariffs starting on April 3 — a day after US reciprocal tariffs are set to come into effect — while auto parts would face similar tariffs “no later than May 3 2025,” unless such actions are expressly “reduced, modified, or terminated.”South Korea's government has been held responsible for multiple human rights violations for fabricating birth records, falsely reporting that children had been abandoned over decades for a programme which sent about 200,000 children and babies abroad for adoption, a landmark enquiry by the truth commission has found. In fact, by 2021-22, the per capita income in the top five states was 3.3 times higher than in the bottom five—a clear sign of the widening divide. So, what does this uneven growth look like?In the 1960s, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal were leading India's economy with contributions of 14.4%, 12.5%, and 10.5% of GDP, respectively.  Today, Uttar Pradesh's share has fallen to 8.4%, and West Bengal's to 5.6%, but Maharashtra remains a top contributor.Gujarat's share grew from 6.4% in 2000-01 to 8.1% in 2022-23, driven by strong industry and urban centres. Southern states like Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala now make up about 30% of India's GDP, boosted by cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad. In this NEON Show episode, economist and policy advisor Sanjeev Sanyal discusses India's economic journey and why growth has been so uneven across states. He explains why some regions have surged ahead while others have lagged behind, touching on the role of anchor cities and old policies like the Freight Equalization Policy that held back Eastern states.Time stamps00:00 - Trailer02:40 - Banking Reforms and Creative Destruction03:20 - Process vs. Structural Reforms05:33 - Bureaucratic Challenges Affect Efficiency14:09 - Autonomous Bodies and Obsolete Institutions16:02 - Is it time to rethink outdated National Monuments?26:06 - What Does Data Reveal About Indian States35:03 - Did “Freight equalization” Rob Kolkata of its Competitive edge?36:25 - East vs. West: Is this India's true economic divide?37:32 - Southern and Western India's Success42:42 - High Growth States Rely on Anchor Cities44:01 - Reviving Kolkata and Eastern India45:12 - Local policies that can make or break state economies.49:11 - Tourism Has Made Sikkim and Goa Economic Stars.53:35 - India Needs to Modernize the Shipping Sector01:00:36 - India Needs a Healthy Clash of Ideas------------Hi, I am your host Siddhartha! In this powerful and historically rich podcast episode, we dive deep into the untold stories of Hyderabad's past, featuring the iconic Pasham Yadagiri Sir. Known for his extensive knowledge of the region's history and his fearless critiques of modern society, Yadagiri Sir sheds light on many hidden aspects of Hyderabad, the Nizams, and their rule. We begin by revisiting the famous “Bandi Venaka Bandi” song, which leads us into a detailed discussion about Hyderabad's Nizam era, particularly what transpired on September 17th. This was a turning point for many, especially for farmers and certain communities like the Brahmins and Padmashalis, who faced brutal killings. Yadagiri Sir unpacks the complexities of the British taxation system and how the Nizams acted as allies to the British crown. He touches on significant events such as the hanging of 1,000 Gonds in Nirmal and emphasizes the need for a 'mosaic vision' to truly understand the British rule in India. We explore how the Nizams first came to power in India and whether there is any confusion between the Nizam army and the notorious Razakars. Yadagiri Sir breaks down the difference between the regular and irregular armies, drawing parallels to contemporary cases like Disha and Nayeem, showing the long-lasting impact of these historical systems on today's society. We discuss infamous cases such as Belle Lalitha's death and the mysterious ways in which these deaths are often brushed under the rug. Yadagiri Sir raises concerns over critical thought in journalism and why cases like Nayeem's death were never properly filed. The conversation also takes a turn towards Operation Polo, the military action that led to Hyderabad's annexation into India. Yadagiri Sir speaks passionately about the massacre that occurred afterward, often referred to as the second Jallianwala Bagh, and the forgotten figures like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Chaakali Ellamma who played crucial roles during this period. He shares insights into the once-wealthy regions of Hyderabad, such as Vagul and Adilabad, which were richer than Kashmir. Yadagiri Sir also discusses how the oppressive 'Dhora' taxation system and violent events like the Puligiri massacre shaped Telangana's fight for survival. The podcast delves into intriguing questions about Belle Lalitha's death and its connection to Nayeem, exploring the larger political context that led to her tragic end. From the closure of all CBM factories, including Asia's largest sugar factory, to the Charminar cigarette industry, Yadagiri Sir points out how these economic collapses affected common people. He argues that certain political parties, like TRS, TDP, and BJP, have ultimately put an end to the vision of Graama Swaraj, leaving us in a cryptocracy rather than a democracy. Moving on to caste dynamics, Yadagiri Sir explains the historical origin of caste titles like Reddy and Choudary, clarifying that these were originally professions rather than social hierarchies. In the case of Reddys, they were land contractors, while Choudary referred to tax collectors. With his trademark candor, Yadagiri Sir also delves into human evolution and how the rise of industrial economies disrupted natural societal progress. With the rise of social media, Yadagiri Sir ponders whether YouTube could become the next mainstream platform for journalism. Citing the example of Dhruv Rathee, who has reportedly influenced up to 20% of voters, he discusses how mobile phones have become the new 'AK47s' in the hands of the people, reshaping political discourse and the flow of information. Finally, Yadagiri Sir shares his thoughts on the Emergency of June 25th, 1975, revealing the harsh conditions of the time, including mass sterilization and the draconian actions of Sanjay Gandhi. In a thought-provoking discussion, he touches on the long-term changes to India's Constitution and the rise of systems like HYDRA that continue to influence the nation today.

his is the Catch Up on 3 Things for the Indian Express and I'm Flora Swain. It's the 10th of July and here are today's headlines.Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a delegation-level meeting with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, according to news agency ANI. He will also meet the President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, and hold a high-level business meeting in the country. He arrived in Vienna on Tuesday from Moscow for a one-day visit to the country. This visit, the first by an Indian prime minister in over 40 years since Indira Gandhi in 1983, aims to explore ways to further deepen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation on various geopolitical challenges. The Mumbai police investigating the BMW hit-and-run case said today that the family members of accused Mihir Shah, including his mother and sisters, escaped after the accident on Sunday. According to the police, they were scared of being attacked by a mob and also of being interrogated by them. On Tuesday, the Crime Branch arrested Mihir Shah and detained his mother Meena, his sisters Pooja and Kinjal, and a friend from a resort in Murbad in Thane. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde removed his father Rajesh Shah from the post of deputy leader of the Shiv Sena's Palghar unit.Opposing the Enforcement Directorate's plea to cancel the bail granted to him in the excise policy case, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal informed the Delhi High Court that the agency had implicated him in a “false concocted story” and his arrest was “absolutely illegal”. The submission was made in the Aam Aadmi Party convener's reply filed in the ED's plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to him by a trial court on June 20. A single-judge bench today listed the matter on 15th of July, granting the ED time to respond to Kejriwal's reply. The Supreme Court today held that Muslim women can claim maintenance from their divorced husbands under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1973. The Supreme Court was hearing an appeal by Mohd. Abdul Samad, who had been ordered to pay maintenance of Rs 20,000 to his ex-wife by a family court in Telangana. The woman had moved the family court under Section 125 of CrPC stating that Samad had given her triple talaq. He appealed to the high court which, while disposing of it on December 13, 2023, said “that several questions are raised which need to be adjudicated” but “directed the petitioner to pay 10,000/- as interim maintenance”.Pakistan has legally authorised its army-run spy agency to tap telephone calls and messages, further strengthening its key role in the politics of a nation ruled by military regimes for almost half its independent history. The powerful military plays an oversized role in making and breaking governments in Pakistan, where the new powers for its Inter-Services Intelligence agency provoked outcry from the opposition and on social media. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar told parliament the ministry of information technology and telecommunications had been advised of the change in a July 8 notice. This was the Catch-Up on the 3 Things by The Indian Express.

Stringers and the Journalistic Field: Marginalities and Precarious News Labour in Small-Town India (Routledge, 2023) is one of the first ethnographic works on small-town stringers or informal news workers in Indian journalism. It explores existing practices and cultures in the field of local journalism and the roles and spaces stringers occupy. The book outlines the caste, gender, class and region-based biases in the production of Indian-language journalism with a specific focus on stringers working in Telugu dailies in small towns or ‘mofussil' areas of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, states in south India. Further, it captures their daily work and processes of news production, and the precarious lives they often lead while working in small towns or mofussils. The author, by using Bourdieu's field theory, introduces the journalistic practices of stringers working on the margins and how they negotiate the complex hierarchies that exist within the journalistic field and outside it. This book will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of ethnography, media sociology, journalism and media studies, labour studies and Area studies, especially South Asian studies. Dr. Nimmagadda Bhargav is a faculty member in the Communications Area. Before joining IIM Indore, Bhargav taught communication theory and media practice courses at Manipal Institute of Communication, Manipal. In addition to holding doctoral and master's level research degrees in Communication Studies and Social Sciences, respectively, from the University of Hyderabad, he has worked as a journalist in both the editorial and reporting sections of national English language dailies. As a postdoctoral Research Assistant, Bhargav was part of a UKRI-funded research project – “Framing the Nation: Citizenship, Conflict, and the Media in Contemporary India”, with Loughborough University as the lead research organisation. Specialising in Media Sociology, his broader research interests fall in the overlapping areas of economics, geography, and communication and digital media studies in India and the Global South.
