Anaconda (2025) dares you to answer a simple question: if your childhood favorite movie was a giant snake thriller, would you really remake it in the Amazon with your friends? We take that absurd premise and pull it apart from every angle, because this one sits right on the fault line between horror and comedy, and our reactions could not be more different. With a 47% Rotten Tomatoes score, it's the perfect pick for a Screams and Streams review where the arguments are as entertaining as the movie. We dig into the film's “movie within a movie” setup, the midlife-crisis nostalgia engine driving the plot, and the way celebrity casting changes the feel of the jokes. We talk candidly about Jack Black's very specific style, why it works for some viewers and completely bounces off others, and how Paul Rudd and Steve Zahn shape the best moments. Then we get into the creature feature essentials: jump scares, lost signal, characters making questionable choices, and the big issue for a modern monster movie, CGI that looks a little too fake when the snake should feel terrifying. You'll also hear our category breakdown, including one-liners, laugh-out-loud scenes, what does not hold up, and what surprisingly still works. We compare the movie's meta ambitions to Tropic Thunder and its stalking tension to classics like Jaws, and we end with our watchability scores so you can decide if this belongs on your queue.Follow for more spoiler-filled horror movie reviews, then subscribe, rate, and share the show so more horror fans can jump into the debate.

Directed by Tom Gormican, Anaconda s the action-adventure comedy horror film that serves as a meta-reboot of Anaconda (1997) and is the sixth installment in the Anaconda film series. Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) have been best friends since they were kids and always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. We break down all things meta-reboot, movie references, "themes", and of course... big snakes.

Since this was the winning choice from our monthly member vote, we're skipping the deep-dive history and getting straight into the fun. We discuss whether Tom Gormican's meta-comedy approach actually breathes new life into the franchise or if the CGI giant snake still feels like it belongs in the 90s. From the comedic chemistry between Rudd and Black to those unexpected cameos that had us shouting at the screen, we're breaking down everything we loved (and everything that felt a bit "snake-bitten") about this theatrical release.

This film serves as a reboot that is based on the 1997 original film while also being the 6th film in the “Anaconda” film series, following the 2 main stream films and the other straight to video films. The movie was directed & co written by Tom Gormican and stars Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Steve Zahn & Thandie Newton. In this film, 2 childhood friends turned filmmakers decide to make a gritty remake of the 1997 film, “Anaconda” but while shooting the film, an actual Anaconda attacks their set and quickly stalks them as they try to escape the jungle. In 2020, Columbia Pictures had announced a remake of the 1997 film but as the film was getting off the ground, it was changed to a reboot rather than a straight up remake. The film hit theaters nationwide on Christmas Day 2025.

We watched the 2022 film from Tom Gormican, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.I'm putting it out there right now: Nic Cage is one of our finest actors. Not only is he a freaking Oscar winner, but he also does weird meta movies like this one. Doesn't he seem like the craziest hang imaginable? There may have been some tough years in his past. Who among us doesn't occasionally have some money troubles and have to accept work we'd rather not do? But should we get on his case for stuff like Bangkok Dangerous and Drive Angry? For every one of those films, there's a Moonstruck, a Leaving Las Vegas, a The Rock. As a post-holiday treat, Marvel Animation dropped its first look at Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, premiering in January. The short teaser trailer gives us a good look at the Hudson Thames-voiced Peter Parker and a glimpse of Norman Osborn, who is voiced by Colman Domingo. Other voice talent for the show features Hugh Dancy, Charlie Cox, and Vincent D'Onofrio. If you enjoyed diving back into the dark, broody, Gotham of Matt Reeves Batman universe during The Penguin, get ready to be disappointed. It was announced that The Batman II has been pushed from its 2026 release date to October 1, 2027. The film is set to begin production in the last half of 2025 and DC co-chief James Gunn cited Reeves working to perfect the script as some of the reason for delay. The October 2, 2026 date formerly held by The Batman II is being taken by a film coming from The Revenant director Alejandro González Iñárritu and Tom Cruise. The triumph of the sequel movies continues at the box office this holiday season with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 having a very successful opening before Christmas to a $62 million domestic debut and has now climbed to a worldwide total of $159.5 million. Though Disney's prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, fell short of opening projections, the holiday season has been kind to the film as it currently holds a $221.7 million global box office. Wicked and Moana 2 still hold the overall crowns at the box office and Matt Eggers' Nosferatu, which debuted on Christmas Day, is sitting quietly but solidly at $26 million domestically for three days. The first trailer for A24 dark comedy Death of a Unicorn has been released. The film, written and directed by Alex Scharfman in his directorial debut, stars Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, and hits theaters in the spring of 2025. Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra recently told the Los Angeles Times that Kraven the Hunter is “probably the worst launch we had” in the nearly eight years he's been at the studio, adding: “I still don't understand, because the film is not a bad film." Vinciquerra also blamed the press for the bombing of Madame Web. Paramount+ has renewed the Jeremy Renner-led series Mayor of Kingstown for a fourth season. Netflix has released the first trailer for The Electric State, a sci-fi thriller from the Russo Brothers that stars Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, and Millie Bobby Brown. The film will debut on March 14. Paramount is moving forward with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 to continue the video game adaptation film franchise. Currently, the film is targeting a Spring 2027 release. With an animated series already in development, Sony Animation and Netflix are looking to expand on building on their Ghostbusters universe as sources tell Deadline the two are teaming on a Ghostbusters animated film. Insiders add that the project is still in early development but that Kris Pearn is attached to direct. HBO has renewed Dune prequel series Dune: Prophecy for a second season. Sony has announced that the 28 Years Later sequel titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple directed by Nia Decosta will hit theaters on January 16, 2026. The movie is the second installment in Danny Boyle and Alex Garland‘s planned zombie apocalypse follow up trilogy. Jared Leto will officially play villain Skeletor in the upcoming live action Masters of the Universe from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Evil Dead Rise filmmaker Lee Cronin is writing and directing a new take on The Mummy for New Line. Horror powerhouses Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, along with Cronin's banner Doppelgängers, are producing and the film is currently set for an April 17, 2026 release. Sony has announced that filmmaker Tom Gormican's reimagining of the 1997 snake-focused horror movie Anaconda will hit theaters on December 25, 2025. Paul Rudd and Jack Black star in the new feature from Columbia Pictures.

We're back with a film about filmmaking, spycraft and celebrity, starring the one and only Nicolas Cage. In the movie, Cage plays a fictionalized version of himself, down on his luck and struggling to connect with his teenage daughter, when a wealthy fan (who may or may not be a kidnapper and arms dealer) makes Cage an offer he can't refuse. Co-starring Pedro Pascal, this two-hander is equal parts bromance, action-comedy, and homage to Cage's lengthy career. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is a 2024 American action comedy film directed by Mark Molloy and written by Will Beall, Tom Gormican, and Kevin Etten from a story by Beall. Serving as the fourth installment in the Beverly Hills Cop film series and a sequel to Beverly Hills Cop III (1994), Eddie Murphy (who also produces) reprises his role as Axel Foley, with Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot reprising their roles from previous films in the franchise, while Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, and Kevin Bacon star in new roles. Axel Foley has returned to Beverly Hills after his daughter Jane's and his old partner Billy Rosewood's life is threatened. She and Axel team up with her ex-boyfriend Bobby Abbott and his old pals, John Taggart and Serge, to uncover a conspiracy. The film entered development in the mid-1990s, under Murphy's production company. Various directors and screenwriters were attached over the years, including the filmmaking duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, but the project had faced multiple issues and has undergone development hell. In April 2022, Molloy was hired to direct, with production beginning in California that August. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F was released on the streaming service Netflix on July 3, 2024.

ASSINE: https://www.catarse.me/cinematico SIGA @CINEMATICOPOD   Apresentação: Carlos Merigo Produção e Pesquisa: Pedro Strazza Edição e Sonorização: Marcelo Miranda Atendimento e Comercialização: FTPI / Boo-Box Contato: cinematico@b9.com.br See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Director Tom Gormican discusses his new film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, with fellow director Scott Z. Burns in a Q&A at the DGA theater in Los Angeles. In the conversation they speak about the letter that convinced Nicolas Cage to do the movie, directing the film from an Ipad in a hotel room, and the importance of music in a film with a constantly changing tone. The film stars Nicolas Cage as a fictionalized version of himself who is hired to attend the birthday of a superfan, who is actually a dangerous drug cartel kingpin. But when Cage is recruited by the CIA to help bring him down, he's forced to channel some of his most iconic on-screen characters. Please note: spoilers are included. If you wanna see Nick Cage playing Nick Cage in a meta-narrative that's unlike any other Nick Cage movie (even if you haven't seen every Nick Cage movie), this Nick Cage movie will surely make you go full Nick Cage mode. But all Nick Cage jokes aside, this episode of the FILM ETC. podcast has host Mike Webb giving his full thoughts on THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT, starring (who else, than) Nicolas Cage. THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT stars Nicolas Cage as himself in this meta-narrative where he is clearly looking for a new role in a film and is in financial ruin. He is then given an offer of $1 million to attend the birthday party of a wealthy yet dangerous superfan named Javi (Pedro Pascal) in his estate in Mallorca, off the coast of Spain. Things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by two CIA operatives (Tiffany Haddish and Ike Barinholtz) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones. The film also stars Sharon Horgan, Alessandra Mastronardi, Jacob Scipio, Lily Sheen, Paco Leon, and Neil Patrick Harris. Directed by Tom Gormican. Tom Gormican directs and Nicholas Cage stars as….Nicholas Cage, the famous Oscar-winning actor/former movie star who has spent much of the past decade acting prolifically in many smaller movies but still remains a household name.  He's struggling to find exciting new work as an actor and decides to take up on the offer of wealthy olive oil tycoon from Spain who pays him $1 million to attend his birthday party on the coast of Spain as a special guest.  The olive oil tycoon is Javi played by Pedro Pascal – he is literally THE biggest Nic Cage super-fan you are ever likely to meet and needless to say, the two of them become instant friends.  Unfortunately, all might not be as it seems with regards to Javi and his business – the CIA suspects him of foul play and lead by Tiffany Haddish's operative, they need to recruit some one to infiltrate Javi's world to get to the bottom of things…..and yup, guess WHO they recruit to do so?
