We Review the 11th Season Premiere of The Walking Dead
We’re back with another “We Review the Reviews” Episode! This time, we review the reviews of “Portrait in Death”! As usual, the reviews are what we would expect. One reviewer says the sex scenes were “Boring and Granny Style,” another said “the conversations made me want to gag,” and another said “she has the weirdest names for her characters….it’s really annoying.” BUT, we do read a couple of really good reviews including one that said, “I thought I couldn’t love these characters more, but I do with each book,” and another who said “I’ve read a lot of series fiction and I have never seen one just continue to go from strength to strength like the In Death series. J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts is truly something else as a creative mind and a writer who can turn them out yet keep them fresh as spring daisies.” and also: “Susan Ericksen brings these characters alive, giving each an authentic voice with a genius of her own.” We couldn’t agree more! Enjoy!
Episode 57!!!! which is really Episode 70? The Suicide Squad! The movie we have talked about for months is finally here! We Review it and talk about what we liked and didn't like. Starro the Conquerer the difference between the first one at its successor. We also talk Games as a Service! No more buying new versions year after year.... now we can look at IP's being dropped updated for years to come. Some games have been doing this.. Battlefield seems to be just catching on.. We discuss our experience with it and whether we think its good or bad for the gaming industry. Michael Keaton putting BACK on the Batsuit and what that means for him. Venom news... Him possibly showing up in Morbius and the delay moving the movie back. Crunchy Roll's new owners. Sonic 2 casting everyones favorite echidna. Both Avatars, Airbend and the Na'vi... We hope you join us for all that and more on the Alter Ego Podcast!
This week, we talk with “In Death” Series fan Katheryn, who AJ came across on Apple Podcasts. Katheryn has a podcast where she reviews books, (https://podcasts.apple.com/at/podcast/dear-author-signed-me/id1526009974?l=en) and she gave a really good review of Naked in Death and said that she was a big fan of the series, so we thought that it would be fun to have her on the show while Tara is away this week. The main topic of our discussion is Eve’s character progression. If you have listened to our earlier episodes, especially the “We Review the Reviews” episodes, you know how frustrated we get with people who claim that Eve never progresses as a character. For Katheryn, discussing Eve’s character progression is one of her favorite things. She’s extremely knowledgeable about the series and it made for a really great discussion. We hope you enjoy it!
Here we are again, folks, with another “We Review the Reviews!” This time we review the reviews of “Purity in Death!” So many BS reviews for this book! We start out with another reviewer who didn’t like the book, so therefore they question whether Nora Roberts actually wrote the book. Then there’s the reviewer who felt that Nora “made social commentary throughout that was either annoying or incredibly bigoted.” We really wish people would give us examples of what they feel is annoying and bigoted. Next, a review that feels the book was a “techno-babble bore” and that it copied the movie “Star Chamber.” Although, vigilante movies have been around since movies existed, so, “Star Chamber” didn’t invent that genre. Just visit the page on Wikipedia that lists all the vigilante movies that have been made. There’s a really pretentious a-hole who writes a really long review about how bad they feel Nora’s “mushy, irritating” and writing is. “Purity” in their opinion, is “lame, “boring,” and “tiring” with “…very poor plot line, character growth or mystery.” Plus, TWO SIMILIES IN ONE SENTENCE?? HOW DARE SHE!!?? Here’s some more things we learn about this book in this episode: there is a graphic sex scene in this book. Eve’s tragic backstory is leaned on gratuitously in this series. Also there’s this thing about a dog that’s supposed to be funny but is gross. Roarke is pushy and arrogant Eve just grumped and snarled her way through the book at everyone Eve’s never in her own office Eve is starting to resemble Anita from LKH’s series Eve is “overly arrogant, abrasive, a bully and uncouth” Eve isn’t really solving her own cases “legally,” she needs to use Roarke and do it by crossing that line Obviously, since there are no guns with bullets, the right to bear arms for Americans has been taken away On the good side, some reviewers really loved this book and the series in general, not to mention Susan Ericksen and we LOVE those reviews.

Here we are again with another "We Review the Reviews Episode!" In this episode we talk about why there are so many negative reviews for "Seduction" based on Susan Ericksen's reading of the Audiobook. Related to that, we mention a 2012 interview with Susan and husband David Colacci, where she talks about going back and re-recording some of the "In Death" books. If you are interested, here is the link to that interview. We also talk about people needing to pay attention to details when they read the books so that, for example, when Nora writes a line like: “In the gorgeous spring of 2059..." you pick up on how the book is set in the future. Or maybe pay attention to what the characters names are. We find out that you apparently won't get away with having one of your characters call John Keats' work "stupid." We have people pissed off at Eve for not taking care of herself and acting pissy when Roarke tries to take care of her. But also people pissed off because how dare Roarke be so mean to Eve by forcing her to take care of herself. Yet other people are annoyed by how "Peabody acts less like a cop & more like a teenage boy, always horny & hungry!" But we also have a few really great reviews that we love. Hope you all have as much fun listening to the episode as we had recording it!

Hey, Everybody! We’re back again with another “We Review the Reviews” Episode! This time we are reviewing the reviews of “Indulgence in Death.” Before we go any further, we talk a bit about the next dustup on the J.D. Robb Official Facebook page where Denise argues with Nora about whether or not the reader “collaborates” with the author. We will talk about this more in depth on the next “Briefing Room.” Anyway…back to reviews. With these reviews, we learn a lot in this episode, including: This book is Fluff This book is badly written romance They’re written specifically to familiarize new readers with this series, and therefore, yes, they rehash some details. Sex scenes are “done to death.” Susan Ericksen is an amazing reader, and if you don’t think so, maybe YOU are the Worst. Reader. Ever. Some readers found this book Boring, Boring. Some people only read the novellas because they are “Completists.” Regular Nora Roberts novels have little to none profanity and sex. Eve Dallas can be judgmental, and that IS in character for her. Some fans are really amazing reviewers and we really love those people.

#JoinTheConversation as Stylez welcomes guest host, Shevy (@StheSuperstar and @ShevyTheSuperstar), as we discuss Marvel's The Falcon & The Winter Soldier! We Review and Recap Episode 1 (SPOILERS), and our theories on what's to come! You don't want to miss this one!
We're taking on the topic of the Rumor that Wouldn't Die, also known as “Nora Roberts Must Have Ghost Writers.” For more context, here is the link to the original post by Nora Roberts that we reference in this episode: Zombie Ghosts post from Fall into the Story Look, everyone: If you write like it's a full-time job like Nora does, it is entirely possible to write four books (or more) per year. AJ and Jen have both participated in “National Novel Writing Month,” and completed a 50,000 “novel” in one month. If we can write 50,000 in a month while still working at our full-time jobs, Nora can write twice or three times that in a month for her full-time job. (And do it 10 times better, probably). We read a review of “Shadows in Death” that came out after we did our “We Review the Reviews – Shadows in Death Edition” episode. It's a really obnoxious review that is pretty typical of what obnoxious assholes say when they accuse Nora of having ghostwriters. Also, we just want Nora to know: If you haven't picked up on it by now, let us be clear: We are all HUGE fans. There will always be an open invitation for Nora (or Nora's publicist Laura) to be a guest on this show, and we would be honored should that ever happen. Honestly, we're good people and really fun. Just ask Susan Ericksen.

We're back with one of our most popular topics: We Review the Reviews! This time, we are reviewing the reviews of Betrayal in Death! We talk about the bad and the good reviews including: THESE BOOKS ARE PADDED WITH GRATUITOUS SEX SCENES!! THESE BOOKS ARE NOT REALISTIC!! THESE BOOKS ARE CRAP!! EVE IS LETTING EVERYONE ELSE TAKE CREDIT FOR HER WORK!! THE AUDIOBOOKS MAKE EVE SOUND SARCASTIC AND BITCHY!! THE AUDIOBOOKS ARE AMAZING AND EVERYONE SHOULD LISTEN TO THEM!! THE ENDING FOR THIS ONE WAS DISAPPOINTING!! NO MOMENTS OF LEVITY TO BREAK THE TENSION!! (although, this person thinks Roarke is much sexier than Christian Gray and we agree!!) EVE DALLAS IS CRUEL TO OTHER CHARACTERS!! ROARKE IS TOO BUSY BEING A TYCOON TO GET UPSET AT EVERY EMPLOYEE THAT DIES!! THERE'S NO CRYING IN TYCOONING!! THERE'S TOO MUCH HEAD HOPPING, THOUGH YOU ROMANCE READERS WILL BE FINE WITH THAT!! WHY DOESN'T EVE HAVE FRIENDS!! A couple of our favorite good reviews of all time like this one: Someone has sent an assassin to kill off Roarke's people, one silver wire garrote at a time. Well, Eve's not going to stand for that. Also, This One: You know I love my badass jerky alphas. Roarke is an alpha but he is not an asshole. The opposite in fact. I love him. I love how he loves and desires Eve. She is his everything. We feel you, reviewer. But we mostly love this review because they used a photo of Hugh Jackman, and we are here for it: ALSO: And apparently, AJ and Jen like the dirty men, and we're here for that, too!

We review "Midnight in Death." This is Nora's first "In Death" novella. This novella originally appeared as part of the "Silent Night" Anthology which also included novellas by Susan Plunkett, Dee Holmes, and Claire Cross. Our overall feeling about this book is that it's a bit unsatisfying, and we think that's because this is such a short book and although it has everything in it that we would want from an "In Death" book, we just want more of it! So many great moments in this book, but again, we want them in a full length book. As we have noted with the other books we read, the plot device that Nora has used for this book is, surprise, surprise, MIDNIGHT! All of the murders that happened in this book happen at midnight, and the murderer gives Eve an ultimatum to meet him at midnight on new years eve, or he will kill Dr. Mira. The murderer is David Palmer, someone Eve had helped put away before. But he managed to escape an off planet facility?? We really want to know how that happened, but we don't know because Nora couldn't put all that into a novella. Eve and Summerset have called a truce for Christmas, so no throwing her jacket over the newel post for Eve. We also love hearing about how Galahad spent his Christmas. People always want to see all the characters from previous books make an appearance, and in this book, Nadine makes an appearance, but that seems weird to us. Why did Palmer contact Nadine? Then we never see Nadine again? This book also has a YANNI (Yet Another Noticeable Nora Inconsistency), where Morris is called "Morse" and we really wish Nora had a better editor back in the day. Just like Summerset, we're all irritated by the fact that Eve would put "Seal-it" onto the brand new gloves that Roarke gave her for Christmas! She should have known they were expensive gloves that might get ruined by "Seal-it." Take your gloves off before you seal up, Eve!! But also, why is Roarke giving her gloves like that knowing that she would get blood and crime scene gunk and seal it on them!? Also, would people in 2058 still be wearing actual fur? As some of you might remember, we said in our "We Review the Reviews: Shadows in Death Edition" we thought people who say Eve is a "strictly by the book" cop who would never "cross the line" just don't really know Eve. In this book we are reminded of that when she tells Feeney: “If he hurts her, I’m taking him out.” She lifted her gaze again. “Whatever line I have to cross, I take him out.” Robb, J. D.. Midnight in Death We love the gift that Peabody gives to Eve...really, all the gifts given in this book. Then we go off topic and talk about gift giving during Christmas. The end of this was a bit abrupt and weird, because Roarke rushes into the basement of David Palmer's house to see Eve take Palmer out, and put out a fire, literally, but nobody else rushes in? Then Mira just walks out of the basement by herself, to leave Eve and Roarke alone to have a moment. This all seems weird, like we said, but what can you do? One of our listeners, Michelle, corrects Jen from the last podcast. Jen insisted that at the end of "Shadows in Death," Brian Kelly just happened to be at the Lannigan farm to pick up a "Jumper" or a sweater that Sinead made for him. But Michelle points out that Roarke says he sent a "jumper" (or a "puddle jumper") for Brian, which is a small airplane, to bring Brian to the Lannigan farm to help take down Lorcan Cobbe. Jen still wants it to be Brian picking up a sweater from Sinead, and may write a fan fiction where Sinead makes Brian a sweater. Then we go off topic a bit to talk about fan fiction. We read some comments about the "We Review the Reviews" episode, and how much you all loved it. Don't worry, there will be more of those coming!

We Review peer-to-peer SAAS travel booking platform Trvl.com on this edition of Fusiontourism Podcast Show. With today’s ever-evolving technology, the way we research and book trips look drastically different to how it did a decade ago. According to Skift, 31% of hotel bookings are now transacted on mobile, and at TRVL, we see a similar trend. Another momentous change, which is linked closely to mobile, is the role of chat in people's everyday lives. Surprisingly (or maybe unsurprisingly) messaging apps now account for 91% of app usage in the US. Simple Summary about Trvl.com What is TRVL for you? A peer-to-peer travel booking platform. Our mission is to empower travellers. How does it work for you? Step 1. Your trips. When you are acting as a TRVL Agent for the people you travel with, you’re entitled to a commission. Step 2. For others. You can also share and recommend trips to others and earn a commission when they make a booking. Step 3. Set up shop. Vanessa was getting ready to throw away a magazine (because of course, she practices the "one in one out rule") and the headline on the cover was: The Balanced Life! She told me that she paused for a moment and thought, "Do I have balance?" We hear so much about it, but how do we define work life balance? What does it really mean? Can we really achieve a balanced life? And so we got to talking about balance for a while, and thought we’d explore that a little more…. (Read more...) Note: Get a copy of Supermom vs Super Mom for yourself or gift it to a Mom who needs a little "less" in her life. It's less than $5 and will save you countless hours and effort! Buy Supermom vs Supermom Topic: How Do You Define Work Life Balance? It seems like the whole "balance thing" has become a buzz word. We hear about balance all the time in magazines, on television, supposed experts, life coaches, etc. Terms like work life balance, balanced diet, and even balanced budget are pretty pervasive. But what does balance really mean in your life? We think "balanced" is different for everyone and there’s no one prescribed balanced lifestyle that works for everyone. Nor is there one way to define work life balance in a way that's universal. So, we took a look at it from our own experience. For us, work life balance includes myriad topics we've discussed on previous shows, such as: The right size home The right amount of time spent on work Valuing experiences vs things Freedom from stuff...in exchange for more free time to do what we love Healthier living and relationships Working as part of a team, focused on a larger goal...at work and/or in the community Essentially, we define work life balance as living a fulfilling life...that will include ups and downs but overall full of happiness, joy, etc. As we talked about what this balance meant to us, there were some pretty specific things that were NOT included in our definition of work life balance, too. Here are some: We don’t think it means being on permanent vacation It’s not about striving to eliminate all challenges in our life...that’s part of life! Sure, balance is easier when you don’t have challenges, but that’s not real life! It’s not about eliminating everything...just all the "junk" So what gets in our way of achieving a good balance? For us, historically it's been things like: Putting an overemphasis on work related tasks when it interferes in other areas of our lives Over obligating ourselves monetarily through too much spending Over obligating ourselves by accepting too many commitments that sap our time Consumerism always makes you feel like you’re missing something, and if you have this item, take this pill, look this way, then your life will be complete Overindulging in one way or another, such as with: Food Drink Technology Speaking of technology, that deserves a deeper look. What’s the problem with technology? It’s invading every realm of our personal space, that's what! It's even encroaching on the most intimate of spaces and events: The bathroom The shower The bedroom Family meals When we overindulge in technology, it distracts our attention and focus, and affects our ability to communicate and deal. For the younger generation of teens, it's even impacted the way they communicate. Many rely on electronic communication versus face to face communication. In some, this has hindered their ability to deal with confrontation. Technology, when abused, hinders our ability to be present...to pause, and be in the moment; to be alone in our thoughts to contemplate. Ironically most people say they want to "give it up", but never do. How We Strive To Create Balance So here are some ways we try to maintain to ensure we stay true to how we define work life balance. We: Review our goals Reward ourselves when we achieve our goals or reach milestones
