This week, six millennials are astonishingly successful finding a large house to rent — the power points don't work, there's no mobile reception and the walls are quite literally made of alien woodlice. Oh, and it collapses into dust on their first night. It's Knock Knock. Notes and links Brendan quickly identifies two of the film antecedents of this story: The Evil Dead (1981), with its demonically possessed trees, and Hitchcock's Psycho (1960), whose antagonist has a complex relationship with his mother. Nathan first encounters David Suchet as Blott in Blott on the Landscape (1985), a BBC adaptation of Tom Sharpe's 1975 satirical novel of the same name. Knock Knock was written by Mike Bartlett, who was famous for a TV series called Dr Foster (2015), starring Suranne Jones as a woman who starts to suspect her husband of infidelity. David Suchet's first appearance in a Poirot property starring Peter Ustinov as Poirot — the 1985 made-for-TV movie Thirteen at Dinner (1985), an adaptation of Christie's Lord Edgeware Dies (1933), in which Suchet played Inspector Japp. Simon refers to the vault-related theorising of Whovians, a comedy aftershow that accompanied Series 10, 11 and 12 of Doctor Who on ABC-TV in Australia. Our very own Adam Richard was a regular in the show's first two seasons. And finally, Brendan recklessly introduces us to another possible inspiration for this episode, the 1977 film Death Bed: The Bed That Eats, which we would all have been better off not knowing about. Follow us Nathan is on Bluesky at @nathanbottomley.bsky.social, Brendan is at @retrobrendo.bsky.social, and Simon is on X at @simonmoore72. THE SUMMER OF LOVE GIVES WAY TO PERVERSE MELODRAMAS, BLOODY HOME INVASIONS, NECROPHILIC HOUSEWIVES, AND…CARNIVOROUS BEDS? After Night of the Living Dead (1968), but before the slasher boom of the early ‘80s, American horror went through one of its most creative and influential eras. But, for every Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Carrie (1976), and Halloween (1978), there were dozens of under-the-radar oddities that took years – sometimes decades – to be recognized by cult audiences for their unique contributions to American horror. Join Gabe and special guest Bill Ackerman of the Supporting Characters podcast and numerous Blu-ray commentary tracks as they explore more independent horror films from the era. This year's batch begins with Ken Friedman's' Death by Invitation (1971), Jacques Lacerte's Love Me Deadly (1972), Robert J. Emery's My Brother Has Bad Dreams (1972), George Barry's Death Bed: The Bed That Eats (1977), and Bill Gunns Ganja & Hess (1973). Stay tuned for six more titles in Part 2, live early next month. Tread Perilously's month of guest stars and Grab Bag episodes concludes with the next installment of the Tequila and Bonetti deep dive, "Tale of the Dragon." When a local fortune teller comes to the squad room to report a murder, Visiting Detective Nico Bonetti is forced into a conflict with the apparent supernatural. It also puts him on the trail of a sniper who is killing surfer dudes all over South Coast. Will the fortune teller's visions prove correct? Will Bonetti die among unfinished salmon rolls? And will the fortune teller ever realize the mysterious voice she hears is Tequila? Special Review Unit Captain Charlie Wright joins Erik and Justin for a show that is not SVU, but still features Mariska Hargitay. She surprises them both by having a memory of watching Tequila and Bonetti when it aired! Justin finds a surprising lack of typical Tequila and Bonetti content in the episode. Geography Corner once again happens early, but occurs throughout. The group determines that Tequila must outrank Officer Nunzo. The program's questionable content also gets examined, as does Erick Avari's cameo. Charlie admits she's never seen Death Bed: The Bed That Eats. Erik and Charlie offer some opinions of Law & Order: Organized Crime. Mickey Hargitay Plants gets another shout-out and Charlie reacts to the show's decision to name a character "Captain Midian Knight."

Episode 94: Death Bed: The Bed That Eats. This film has a lot of similarities to David Lynch's Eraserhead. Both films are bat shit crazy. They were extremely low budget , they took years to make, both filmed in the 70's, and they both have wild sound design. The main difference between these two is David Lynch had the knowledge and resources (i.e. actors) while Death Bed director George Barry had Detroit hippie burnouts. On this week's episode, we rank DEATH BED: THE BED THAT EATS, THE REAL CHAINSAW MASSACRE, and THE UNEXPLAINED: WITCHES, WEREWOLVES, AND VAMPIRES. We also dig into a bunch of listener requests (including CARRIE and THE EXORCIST) and talk about nightmares involving Gary Busey, old-timey catfishing, and attempting to explain MTV's Next to children.

Guest host: David Wayne Young returns for another episode to talk about more terrible movies with Tyler and Chris. These two dipsticks are over here talking about how positive they try to be with their show and here they are talking crap on three movies. Nice work, you jerks! This time they talk about; "Dinosaur Island", "Magic Puppy" and "Death Bed: The Bed That Eats". It's a hoot and a holler if I do say so myself. I hope they don't have David on again though. I've seen that guy pull his pants all the way down to pee in a public restroom.
This week, Chris and Joel have made another list. This time they each rhyme off their own list of horror films that contain really stupid killers. From giant killer rabbits in Night of the Lepus to a killer bed in Death Bed: The Bed That Eats, the guys have compiled quite an interesting and mostly humorous list of films that probably should not scare you but were totally designed to. Also, the guys check out new retro releases such as the 1983 classic HERCULES starring Lou Ferrigno, which is out this week from Shout Factory. Finally, there is a new segment on the show as Chris attempts to STUMP JOEL with some random trivia about some of their favorite films. Check out why Go Home in a Box should be your podcast source for discussion of films from the VHS era.
Movies discussed: Death Spa, Death Ship, Death Bed: The Bed That Eats, Death House (short) We take a respite in the Death Spa that Charlie seems to enjoy this week, Josh and Matt prefer to relax in the Death Bed, and no one is interested in a cruise on the Death Ship. Next weeks assignments: REC 3: Genesis Cheap Thrills Brain Dead Cargo (short) Watch along with us if you like and we'll see you next week. This week, we wade into the treacherous waters of independent 1970s horror movies. We’ll discuss how this surreal film almost never saw the light of day, and we’ll try to understand how a bed can eat. Thumbs Down is a bi-weekly podcast written and produced by Josiah Keehn. Every bad movie has a story behind … Continue reading Episode 5: Death Bed: The Bed That Eats (1977) →
It’s time to get into the Halloween spirit with the first of four episodes about blood and screams and adorable apocalypses. This week, Joe welcomes Phil Forsyth back to the show to discuss a film Joe can’t believe A) he’s never seen before and B) is not a franchise with at least 10 installments already. The film in question is Chopping Mall, which is about a group of teenagers trapped in a mall with a set of murderous security robots, and it’s awesome. The guys discuss the overkill of the robots’ arsenal of weapons, similar movies like Death Spa and Death Bed: The Bed That Eats, weird married couples hanging out with teenagers, non-orgy orgy scenes, and what constitutes an “impressive” robot in the 80s. In the ninth episode of Daughters of Darkness, Kat and Samm return for the second of a two-part series inspired by Stephen Thrower’s Nightmare USA. They kick things off with a discussion of Bob Clark’s devastating classic, Deathdream (1974), a Canadian production that reimagined the zombie film while simultaneously offering up a fresh adaptation of W.W. Jacobs’ story “The Monkey’s Paw” and confronting the effects of the Vietnam War. Frederick R. Friedel’s Kidnapped Coed (1976), on the other hand, is an odd mashup of genres that follows the strange romance that develops between a kidnapped young woman and her captor as they travel through the American countryside. The episode also explores one of the most delirious and delightful of all ‘70s cult films, Death Bed: The Bed That Eats (1977), George Barry’s singular vision of a demonically possessed bed that consumes its inhabitants. It really must be seen to be believed. They conclude the episode with a look at Don’t Go in the House (1979), about a sympathetic serial killer who burns women to death in his own basement, and The Children (1980), a hilarious “killer kids” movie about radioactive zombie children set loose on a rural town.

This week we talk about the cult 1977 film Death Bed: The Bed That Eats. If you like films about beds that eat people, this one's for you! It’s a film that the director, producer and writer don’t remember even making, though they are all one in the same person.

On this week's episode, Brittany selects the 1977 killer bed classic Death Bed: The Bed That Eats! I think the only way to truly understand it's meaning is to indulge in as many drugs as the creators of this film did. Find out what our ratings are of this absurd 70's horror movie about a bed eating people.
