How are we to acknowledge someone with an honorary doctorate? Are there concerns when doctorates are conferred from schools with questionable credentials and accreditation? My guest in this episode is Dr. Martine Audeoud, Academic Dean of Bakke Graduate University and author of Research as Worship in the Company of God. In this recent book she shares much wisdom for students doing research for term papers. In this podcast we discuss: How Martine began thinking about research as worship Why she believes “God is a God of research” How Research as Worship can help students doing term papers Why Africans have a “competative edge” in integrating faith and research and what we can learn from them Why she chose the metaphor of the Jewish tabernacle to illustrate how research is worship A few examples of how the tabernacle metaphor relates to research as study Integrity in research as a reflection of the holiness of God How understanding research as worship guards us against plagiarism, relying on ChatGPT to write papers, the temptation to only hear what we want to hear, etc. How to balance being open to new ideas with affirming what we know biblically, as illustrated by Nehimiah The non-negotiable values a Christian student should maintain while doing research The importance of being part of a faith community to help in research How to find other believers on your campus in general and in your major in particular How to find a mentor(s) to help you as a Christian in your research The importance of selecting the best research approach for your term papers A helpful checklist to writing a good research paper The role of journaling in doing research as worship Sabbath-keeping as a part of research and worship How all of our lives include research, well beyond just writing term papers Resources mentioned during our conversation: Martine Audeoud, Research as Worship in the Company of God Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences “A Case Study in Thinking Christianly and Making a Difference: Edmund Husserl,” Episode 21 of the the Thinking Christianly podcast IFES/The International Fellowship of Evangelical Students and InterVarsity/USA Christian professional societies (see also here)

My guest today is Dr. Nita Kotiuga, Director of Spiritual Formation at Bakke Graduate University. Nita began to think seriously about being formed in the image of Christ during her college years while involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. She then served on InterVarsity staff for six years, sharing with students what she had learned about developing intimacy with Christ. So interested was she in understanding and living in light of biblical truth that she went on to earn graduate degrees in theology and spiritual formation, which have positioned her well for her current role. Born of Córdoba, Argentina, came to the Lord through the Catholic church at 14 years old, and yet breaking through cultural and denominational backgrounds to serve the ‘Kingdom' of God. German was reminded of the parable of the feast in Luke 14 – where people of all societal levels were invited to the feast. It is an inclusive kingdom. There are no excuses- we are called to “collaborate, communicate and cooperate” such is the vision behind GMN. Pastor German Ricca's mission-mobilizing path commenced when he was moved by a visiting Moroccan missionary who used his musical skills to serve the Lord. He speaks of his journey from working with the poor and homeless in urban Argentinian missions (Cry for the city) to being director of mobilizing missions. He emphasized the ‘kingdom' mindset when coming to missions in that we are only Jesus' stewards. We should not boast or be set on our own organizational ways. However, church/organizational cultures remain the biggest barriers of mission-mobilizing. We hear of how German addresses the hidden agendas present behind many so-called ‘collaborations'. He urges the viewers to return to the roots of the gospel through discipleship, through being a local church with a global relevance, and through cultural intelligence. About the special guest: German Ricca was born and raised in Cordoba City, Argentina. He is married to his sweetheart Karina and they have two children, Firoella and Giuliano! His encounter with Jesus at the age of 15 dramatically changed his life. Sensing a call from God for pastoral and mission ministry in 1996, German has served as a pastor for 20 years. In 2010 German launched a mission organization called Christ for the City which is focused on urban missions in the northern regions of Argentina. For more than 15 years German has been travelling internationally preaching, teaching and mobilizing the Church for missions. He is the Mobilization Director for COMIBAM International, member of the Global Leadership Team for Mentorlink, and member of the Mobilization Task Force member for VISIONS 5:9. He was appointed to the Executive Leadership Team of GMN in 2021. German is currently enrolled in a Master's program in Global Organizational Leadership at Bakke Graduate University. Funny story. Richard Nongard and I were on a call together talking about hypnosis. Like you do. And the topic got so good, we stopped everything, and recorded this week’s episode. How can you live hypnotically? What does it mean to stop DOING HYPNOSIS and instead BE HYPNOTIC. We discuss hypnosis without the premise of a direct hypnotic application and explore the side effects that go beyond the personal change aspect of the work. We highlight how many people go into hypnosis without the preposition of becoming a hypnotherapist and how hypnotic communication allows you to become your own best spokesperson for what you do. Richard also shares the importance of hands-on experience with hypnotic phenomena and why hypnosis work should begin with an evidence-based approach. Want more like this? Richard Nongard and I join forces today to share four language patterns that hypnotists should eliminate from their vocabulary. We discuss the various phrases that become a bad habit in your hypnosis and why you should avoid using filler and permissive phrases. We reveals why suggestions that are unrealistic and too bold are problematic and how suggestions of incremental success will result in a more consistent outcome. We also discuss tonality's role in hypnotic suggestions and debunk the myth that the deepest level of trance is the best state for hypnosis work.
