HP (yes that one) is talking about getting into the Steam Deck business, ShadPS4 introduces support for HDR, the Silksong Steam repo updates, players are double-fisting Wizards, and Intel reportedly cancels Battlemage GPUs.
The PC hardware market has finally settled down with the release of AMD's new Radeon 9000 series and no more major CPU or GPU product launches later this year. So we assess the state of the PC union a bit this week, with a focus on the new AMD cards and their dramatically improved upscaling, ray-tracing, video encoding, and perhaps most of all, price. Plus, some updates on Intel's low-end Battlemage, Nvidia's mounting 50-series woes, the possible delay of Intel's next-gen Panther Lake CPU to 2026, new rumored low-power CPUs for Brad to get excited about running a Linux router on, and more. Full Ray Tracing bzw. Nunja. Viel Spaß mit Folge 233! Stephen Aryan is a fantasy author from the North East of England. Growing up, he read fantasy books by authors including Tolkien, CS Lewis, Ursula Le Guin, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, Terry Brooks, David Eddings, before moving on to authors that include David Gemmell, Tad Williams, James Barclay, Stephen King, Robert Jordan, and Robin Hobb. In 2013, after over a decade of rejections, Stephen submitted his latest novel to a literary agent. Battlemage, his debut novel, was published in 2015, and was the first of a trilogy called the Age of Darkness. Since then, he has gone on to publish several fantasy series. Stephen is a lapsed gamer and a wannabe forest ranger, who likes spending time outside in the woods. When he's not extolling the virtues of Babylon 5, he can be found drinking real ale and reading comics. He lives in the West Midlands with his partner and two cats.

We decided to podcast yet again this week because, honestly, you demand it (you know who you are). The show must go on, and we had a lot to talk about this week - and sometimes we even sounded halfway intelligent! Like when we talked about the new Radeon cards, which bring the promise of $450+ midrange cards to AMD buyers. And we looked at the very compact - and ridiculously well-equipped - FragBox from Falcon Northwest (you know, that little PC that looks like a Playmate cooler?). No, Arc isn't EOL - just the flagship card made by Intel. It doesn't bode well, as Battlemage seems pretty far away, and the A770 seems to have run its course with A750 getting all of Intel's marketing attention lately.Beyond that, Intel decided to re-brand their desktop CPUs starting with the next generation Core, and Ultra is added to the mix to keep you on your toes. Also, other topics (in the list below). FYI, Josh was traveling, so he was absent this week - but don't worry, Kent stepped up with his own burger review. Author Stories - Author Interviews, Writing Advice, Book Reviews
Stephen Aryan was born in Iran in 1977 and raised in Whitley Bay, on the north east coast of the UK. He has been reading fantasy since a very young age. It started with books by David Eddings, Tolkien, C.S Lewis, Terry Brooks, Ursula le Guin, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman and later David Gemmell, who had a huge influence on his work. After graduating university in 1999 he started working in marketing. Around this time he also started submitting his first fantasy novel to agents. In 2013, he submitted his latest novel, Battlemage, to Juliet Mushens. It took Stephen a long time and many struggles to get this far. You can read the full story on a two part blog he wrote called How I Found an Agent Part 1, and How I Found an Agent Part 2. In 2014, Battlemage, was snatched up by Orbit books and subsequently published in 2015. It went on to be published in France, Germany and Russia and was a finalist for the David Gemmell Morningstar Award for best debut fantasy novel. Battlemage went on to win the inaugural Hellfest Inferno Award in France after a public vote. The sequels, Bloodmage, and Chaosmage were both published in 2016, completing the Age of Darkness trilogy. In 2017 he published Mageborn, the first in a new trilogy, the Age of Dread, with Orbit books. This followed on from his first trilogy, with the return of fan-favourite characters and many new faces. The sequels, Magefall and Magebane were published in 2018 and 2019 respectively, wrapping up his second trilogy. In 2018 he also published Of Gods and Men with Orbit, a digital and audio novella which served as a prequel to Battlemage. In 2020 Stephen was picked up for a new duology by Angry Robot Books. The story is set in a brand new world. The first novel, The Coward, was published in June 2021 and it received a Starred Review from Publishers Weekly. The sequel, The Warrior, was published in August 2022. In 2022, Angry Robot signed The Judas Blossom, the first instalment in a Persian inspired fantasy trilogy, from Stephen. The first book will be published on 11th July 2023. The Judas Blossom has been described as an “imaginative and sprawling reimagining of the Mongol Empire's invasion of Persia” following the lives of four characters at the centre of the war. It is an examination of Persian culture, family and war in a stunning, immersive world. Stephen lives in the West Midlands with his partner and two cats. When he's not writing novels or podcasting, he can be found drinking real ale, reading books or watching TV. Stephen is represented by Juliet Mushens of the Mushens Entertainment agency. Earlier in the week we spoke with BattleMage about the beer that started the brewery by winning the Rhythm & Brews contest, tonight we drink that beer! Annnnnd since it's Friday we're going to do a "bonus beer" where I get to read the BattleMage story just for you.
A beer by any other name!? Is it and IPA or IPL? No, this is a cold IPA.
Its origins date back to before Hazy IPAs were a "thing" So it was a little more experimental than what defines the current trend. One thing is for sure, this hazy is flora, delicious and crushable!
Got to love a little word play! A Perception Check is the most common ability check in D&D. A Czech Pilsner is just a as straight up and down the most common type of Ale you can brew. So this Perception Czech from BattleMage is wordplay at it's finest and most drinkable.
Caution, this week will be full of delicious nerdiness! As two passions of mine San Diego Craft Beer AND Dungeons and Dragons come together! Join us as it all starts in a tavern and we bask in the Divine Light.

Welcome to Hardware Addicts, a proud member of the Destination Linux Network. Hardware Addicts is the podcast that focuses on the physical components that powers our technology world. In this episode, we're going to discuss Intel ARC GPU gaming line-up including: Alchemist, Battlemage, Celestial, and Druid. Then we head to camera corner where Wendy will discuss understanding Metering and Metering Modes. So Sit back, Relax, and Plug In because Hardware Addicts Starts Now! Products Discussed: - HP Envy Laptop: https://amzn.to/3gBi29V - Pinephone: https://www.pine64.org/pinephone/ - AMD Ryzen : https://amzn.to/3mvqUSk
Intel Arc [Link] Intel is stepping on to the competitive GPU stage with Nvidia and AMD with its new Arc branding The Arc entity will cover the hardware, software and services to come for Intel's high-end, discrete GPUs. Many generations planned as well Arc GPUs will be available in both desktop and laptops as early as Q1 2022 under the build name “Alchemist” Alchemist is capable of many expected features such as mesh shading, variable rate shading, video upscaling, and real-time ray tracing. Intel is even promising AI-powered super sampling. DLSS competition anyone? While no benchmarks are currently released for Alchemist, we do already know the future generational codenames: Battlemage, Celestial and Druid. Valheim Hearth & Home Deets [Link] Not a deep dive of the upcoming content patch for Valheim, but deets are deets In addition to new building pieces (a higher tier roof and actual window pieces), the food system gets some more insight Foods will now be more focused toward the player's health or stamina, instead of varying degrees of both. Not to mention many new food items being added to the menu.. Of crafting Block will also be based off of your HP instead of stamina now! There will be a new ‘stagger bar' that shows up next to your viking as you block damage. Once this bar fills up, YOU will be staggered. As always subtle, but sensible features in this game adding to the gameplay balance. Epic Games Self-Publishing Beta [Link] A toolset for Epic Games Store self-publishing has entered closed beta Epic is stating that this will allow their games store to grow faster than ever before which is likely true since devs/publishers currently have to work hand-in-hand with Epic to get approval These new tools will allow publishers to "set up their own product pages, achievements, pricing, offers, and upload builds and updates" on the store, very similar to what we're used to with Steam Direct Unlike Steam, speaking of, Epic will still have higher standards as to what kinds of content will be approved. No hate, discrimination, porn, etc. will be allowed on the storefront. Although there are already mentions of a loophole for adult content. Epic has declined to speak on any fees associated with this publishing method yet, as, again, Steam charges $100 for an initial listing. https://www.theverge.com/2021/8/16/22626912/intel-arc-gpu-brand-alchemist-codename-release-date https://www.pcgamer.com/new-valheim-video-outlines-upcoming-changes-to-blocking-and-staggering/ https://www.pcgamer.com/the-epic-games-stores-equivalent-to-steam-direct-is-in-beta/ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/saved-state-heros/support

Finally, dessert this week is an episode from Wall Street Journal on the tech workers who are taking on not one, but TWO full-time jobs… and getting away with it.
