Yeardley Smith may be one of the most candidly open and honest interviews we've had on Superwomen. The multi-talented actor and voiceover artist well-known for her role as Lisa Simpson runs her own production company, Paperclip, and hosts Small Town Dicks, a true crime podcast that gets over a million downloads per month. But Yeardley's outward success didn't always match the plan she had for herself. Yeardley reveals how becoming overly attached to particular outcomes caused her to lose sight of the gifts right in front of her, and how she took time to recalibrate in order to make her life match her goals and vice versa. Episode 2 Yeardley Love At the University of Virginia, famously founded by Thomas Jefferson, no student had ever killed another. In 2010, that changed. Popular and athletic senior Yeardley Love was found in her bed by her roommate, bloodied and battered. A hole in her bedroom door told police that her killer had been very angry – and one man in Yeardley's life was known for his violent rages. Her ex-boyfriend, fellow senior George Huguely, was arrested for her murder. Huguely stood trial and was convicted. Yeardley's mother and sister sued both the school and Huguely, but the suit against UVA was dropped. Yeardley's family won a large civil verdict against her killer, and as a result of Yeardley's death, UVA now requires students to report arrests, and the Virginia General Assembly passed a law making it easier for people who are in a relationship to obtain a protection order against their abusive partner. Katie Hood knows how to follow her instincts and heart when making major life decisions. Today, Katie is CEO of the One Love Foundation, the nation's leading educator of young people on the topic of healthy and unhealthy relationships. Katie shares the reasons why she joined One Love and her ambitious goals for reducing abusive relationships. We discuss how One Love was founded by Sharon Love to honor the memory of her daughter, Yeardley Love, who was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend three weeks before her graduation from the University of Virginia. Sharon never imagined relationship abuse was something she needed to consider for her daughter, “I didn't know then what I know now, that relationship abuse is a public health epidemic and that young women in Yeardley's age group are at three times greater risk than any other demographic.” In our conversation, Katie shares how she left the world of finance and consulting and landed a job at the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, eventually advancing to become CEO of the organization. When Katie had doubts about her ability to lead as CEO of the Michael J. Fox Foundation, her path crossed with leadership guru Andy Grove, former CEO of Intel Corporation, who gave her the push she needed to take the role. Katie shares some of the lessons and skills she learned at the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and how her upbringing, faith and desire to help others has put her on the path she was meant to live. Yeardley and Carla talk about changing their own perceptions of what success looks like, leaping into new adventures, and how Yeardley started her podcast and found a new relationship. You might know my next guests podcast, SMALL TOWN DICKS. If you don't, you still might feel like you know of my hosts. What do I mean? Well, Yeardley Smith, one host and producer of Small Town Dicks podcast, is also the iconic voice of Lisa Simpson. She's a legend. What. DELIGHT to speak with her. And her co-hosts and co-producers, Detectives Dan and Dave? They are pretty stellar as well. Small Town Dicks is a new favorite of mine and you will hear exactly why once you listen to this episode. Yeardley's love of and talent for storytelling shines through the great detective work that Dave and Dan share each week. They are often joined by other police officers who share the cases and stories that have stayed with them throughout their careers. The four of us ( what a crowd!) talked podcasting, true crime, and how they all approached the national conversation around police reform this year. I got to find out what they are listening to and watching, and the cold cases they can't stop thinking about. Yeardley Smith is known for her role as Lisa Simpson on the animated television series “The Simpsons.” She became an actress in 1982 after graduating from drama school. In 1987, she auditioned for the Simpsons shorts on “The Tracey Ullman Show.” In 1989, the shorts became a spin off and “The Simpsons” was born. Yeardley received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance in 1992. She has appeared in several films, including “Just Write,” “Toys,” “City Slickers,” and “As Good as It Gets.” In 2004, Yeardley performed a one-woman off-Broadway show, called “More” in New York City.
This case is extremely sad, a young, beautiful life taken way too soon. Although Yeardley's Family have had to experience something NO ONE should ever go through, they did create something truly beautiful after her passing. In 2010, an elite student and gifted athlete at the University of Virginia became the face of domestic abuse on college campuses. Yeardley Love played lacrosse, and so did her boyfriend, George Huguely V. The culture of lacrosse, with exceptionally close relationships between both teams, as well as the culture of drinking on college campuses, may have caused Yeardley’s friends and teammates to not see what was really happening. YEARDLEY SMITH, The Voice of Lisa Simpson in studio.
If you don't recognize her name, you will most definitely recognize her voice. That's because today's guest is the Emmy award-winning Yeardley Smith. She's been the voice of Lisa Simpson on the epic animated series, The Simpsons, for decades. Showing up at Catt's ready to play, Yeardley took off both her dress AND makeup, and kicked off the conversation with an honest look at her battle with body dysmorphia. During this interview, Yeardley opens up about surviving divorce (twice), learning to embrace her success as a voice actor, and constantly struggling to stay present. She also shares a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of her hugely successful podcast, Small Town Dicks, gives us all the details on meeting her fiancée, and celebrates the healing powers of therapy. Also in this episode, Catt and Yeardley discuss the problematic relationships they have had with their fathers, and how they still put a lot of stock into their parents' opinions. And, to all those bullies who made fun of Yeardley's voice when she was younger -- well, she is certainly having the last laugh now (and that laugh is insured by the way)!

Yeardley Smith is an actress and voice artist best known for being the voice of Lisa Simpson on the long-running animated series "The Simpsons." She is also a podcaster whose true-crime podcast "Small Town Dicks" with co-host and fellow producer Zibby Allen just premiered its fourth season of episodes on March 15, 2019. On March 30, 2019, Yeardley will receive the National Leadership Award from the Human Rights Campaign. During this podcast, Yeardley discusses her life and career and explains how she developed the voice of Lisa Simpson. She also reveals how "Small Town Dicks" came to be and how the series is produced, and Yeardley tells us what she's working on with her production company Paperclip Limited with business partner Ben Cornwell.
Yeardley and I really hit it off in our last conversation, and it was too brief, so she is back for a longer interview and it's great. We really get in to the back story of her playing Lisa Simpson and how she does it, her life as a kid and before show business, her personal life, her podcast and the other cool shows she is producing and a lot more.
Yeardley Smith knows that Lisa Simpson gets people through tough times. She knows because strangers come up to her in public and tell her how much Lisa helped them. And yet, despite portraying this iconic character for 30 years, Yeardley struggled for a long time to see her own life and career as a success. She and Marc talk about her journey, which includes Broadway roles as a teenager, stumbling into voiceover acting, and hosting her own podcast, Small Town Dicks. Plus, Marc himself becomes part of the Simpsons Universe when he welcomes Krusty the Clown to the garage. For real. This episode is sponsored by Squarespace and Aspiration. On November 4th 2018 the Small Town Dicks team appeared in their first ever live show at the Death Becomes Us true crime festival. While Detectives Dan and Dave remained concealed off-stage on mics, Yeardley and Zibby sat down with investigator Paul Holes to interview him on his 24 yearlong investigation into the Golden State Killer case. The Golden State Killer was one of the most prolific predators in U.S. history. He was a serial killer, rapist, and burglar who committed at least 13 murders, more than 50 rapes, and over 100 burglaries in California from 1974 to 1986. This is a recording of that live show which was produced by D.C.’s Brightest Young Things and held at the Lisner Auditorium in Washington D.C.
Yeardley talks about playing the iconic character Lisa Simpson, how that role came about, what it's like working on the ground-breaking "Simpsons" show and her hugely popular true crime podcast, "Small Town Dicks," which follows big-time crime in Small Town, USA.

Yeardley shares a personal story of being targeted and stalked at a time in her career when her success and notoriety as an actress were starting to get some much sought-after traction. Brought up to assume she can handle whatever comes her way without asking for help, Yeardley quickly finds herself in over her head. Zibby, Detective Dan and Detective Dave help her unpack the details of this cautionary tale.

Featuring actual audio of the interrogation room confession, as well as an exclusive interview with Sydney - the mother of the murder victim.
