Cách nay 60 năm, ngày 16/07/1965, tổng thống Pháp Charles de Gaulle và lãnh đạo Ý Giuseppe Saragat đã khánh thành tuyến đường hầm xuyên núi, dài 11,4km, bên dưới đỉnh Aiguille du Midi, trong dãy núi Mont Blanc. Giấc mơ xuyên núi kéo dài hai thế kỷ, không chỉ thể hiện những tiến bộ về kỹ thuật trong nửa đầu thế kỷ 19, mà còn phản ánh quan hệ Pháp – Ý trong chiều dài lịch sử đầy biến động. Vào năm 1787, nhà tự nhiên học người Thụy Sĩ Horace-Bénédict de Saussure từng tiên đoán: “Sẽ đến ngày người ta khoan một con đường dưới chân Mont-Blanc”, theo trích dẫn trong bài luận án của tiến sĩ lịch sử Stéphane Mourlane, trường đại học Nice Sophia - Antipolis. Lúc đó, vấn đề kỹ thuật là một thách thức lớn và giấc mơ này khó khả thi. Đến giai đoạn những năm 1840-1850, ý tưởng nối Chamonix và Courmayeur đã được nêu lại nhằm xóa bỏ sự cô lập của các thị trấn ven núi biên giới giữa hai nước. Năm 1844, luật sư Laurent Martinet đã mô tả một đường hầm dài 12 km, giữa Boissons (Pháp) và Entreves (Ý). Ý tưởng này đã được cụ thể hóa bởi kỹ sư Joseph Alby, thuộc trường Ecole Centrale de Paris, bảo đảm có thể thực hiện được, với các thiết bị khoan hiện đại hơn. Hai thế kỷ đầy khúc mắc chính trị Thế nhưng, phải mất gần hai thế kỷ sau đó, giấc mơ đó mới thành hiện thực bởi những rối ren chính trị. Vào tháng 07/1965, đường hầm xuyên dãy núi Alps dưới đỉnh Mont-Blanc, ngọn núi cao nhất châu Âu, mới chính thức được khánh thành, khép lại một trang sử đầy trắc trở trong lịch sử giữa Pháp và Ý. Cụ thể, dãy Mont-Blanc trở thành biên giới tự nhiên giữa Pháp và Ý ngay sau khi nước Ý thống nhất và vùng Savoie được sáp nhập vào Pháp vào năm 1860. Tuy nhiên, lúc đó, ý tưởng về việc khoan một đường hầm xuyên núi bị phe bảo thủ coi là một hành động « mở cửa biên giới », khó được chấp nhận. Tuy nhiên, mâu thuẫn ngân sách, tranh chấp thương mại và chiến dịch quân sự của Ý tại Libya lại khiến dự án rơi vào bế tắc. Chiến tranh thế giới lần thứ nhất tiếp tục làm đình hoãn mọi tiến trình. Giai đoạn giữa hai cuộc đại chiến thế giới, ý tưởng về đường hầm Mont-Blanc gần như bị lãng quên bởi sự trỗi dậy của chủ nghĩa phát xít và căng thẳng Pháp - Ý dưới thời Mussolini. Khi Ý tuyên chiến với Pháp năm 1940, hy vọng về một dự án chung hoàn toàn tan vỡ. Chỉ sau Đệ Nhị Thế Chiến, trong bối cảnh châu Âu tái thiết, dự án này dần trở lên khả thi hơn. Từ năm 1946, doanh nhân Ý Dino Lora Totino cùng các đội ngũ chuyên môn về kỹ thuật của hai nước khởi động lại nghiên cứu dự án hầm xuyên núi. Dù vẫn gặp trở ngại tài chính, một hội nghị liên chính phủ năm 1949 đã thống nhất chọn Mont-Blanc làm vị trí khoan hầm. Tướng De Gaule thì nhấn mạnh đến một “bữa tiệc chính trị”, đã làm trì hoãn công trình mang tính lịch sử này trong nhiều năm, theo trích dẫn từ Viện nghe nhìn quốc gia Pháp (INA). Nhà sử học Stéphane Mourlane cho rằng “đây là thời khắc lịch sử, bởi vì khi xét đến quan hệ Pháp - Ý, Tướng De Gaulle vẫn luôn bị nghi là có ý định sáp nhập vùng Val d'Aouste của Ý”. Trước khi đường hầm được hoàn thành vào năm 1965, việc đi lại, vượt dãy núi Alpes là một thách thức lớn, thậm chí là nguy hiểm, do thời tiết thất thường và đường núi hiểm trở, đôi khi phải mất hàng tuần để vượt qua tuyến đường quan trọng này giữa Pháp và Ý. Việc xây dựng đường hầm dài 11,6 km đã tạo nên một cuộc cách mạng trong giao thông vận tải, rút ngắn đáng kể thời gian di chuyển và thúc đẩy kinh tế khu vực. Thách thức về khoa học kỹ thuật Để hoàn thành công trình được cho là một kỳ tích. Đường hầm được xây dựng trong vòng 6 năm. Mỗi ngày, các công nhân đào xuyên đá, với tốc độ 7 đến 8 mét từ cả hai đầu núi Alpes, Ý và Pháp. Các cỗ máy đào khoan đá khổng lồ được đặt tên là Jumbo. Hơn 700 tấn thuốc nổ đã được sử dụng. Theo tư liệu của Viện nghe nhìn quốc gia Pháp (INA), 15 máy khoan đào 120 hoặc 150 lỗ rộng khoảng 4 mét, sau đó lấp đầy bằng 500 kg thuốc nổ. Tổng cộng, 1 triệu mét khối đá đã được đưa ra để xây dựng đường hầm. Nhà sử học Stéphane Mourlane cho biết công việc này vào lúc đó không dễ dàng. Bụi được sản sinh trong quá trình đục và khoan, đá thường xuyên rơi xuống, đặc biệt là ở phía Ý. Tại Mont-Blanc, có nhiều loại đá phong hoá, với độ cứng và tính thấm nước khác nhau, do đó không thể ứng dụng một phương pháp cố định, mà phải thay đổi liên tục cách khoan tùy theo từng lớp đá. Đường hầm dài 11,6 km, khiến áp lực đá (lithostatique) gia tăng theo độ sâu, cần hệ thống chống đỡ vách chịu lực lớn như bệ kim loại, tấm bê tông, theo trang construmat.ch. Thêm vào đó, nước ngầm, hơn 10 triệu m³, phải được bơm và xử lý trong suốt quá trình đào. Khí độc như méthane cũng là thách thức lớn trong quá trình xây dựng, đòi hỏi hệ thống thông khí và giám sát liên tục môi trường không khí tại công trường. Theo INA, trong suốt 44 tháng xây dựng, 21 công nhân đã thiệt mạng: 14 người Ý và 7 người Pháp. Khi hai đội cuối cùng gặp nhau vào ngày 14 tháng 8 năm 1962, sau một vụ nổ cuối cùng, đường hầm đã hoàn thành. Với chiều dài 11,6 km, đây là hầm đường bộ dài nhất thế giới vào thời điểm đó. Năm 1965, Charles de Gaulle và tổng thống Ý đã khánh thành đường hầm với sự chào đón nồng nhiệt, sáu năm sau khi bắt đầu xây dựng. Vào năm 2024, con số này lên đến 1,4 triệu lượt qua lại, dù đường hầm đã đóng cửa một thời gian để tu bổ. Cột mốc về tiêu chuẩn an toàn xây đường hầm Tuy nhiên, hình ảnh về đường hầm “lịch sử” đã bị hoen ố bởi vụ hoả hoạn năm 1999, khiến 39 người bỏ mạng. Theo điều tra, hệ thống thông gió trong đường hầm không đủ để thoát khói và khí độc, thiếu lối thoát hiểm và đội ngũ cứu hộ ít ỏi, không được đào tạo bài bản. Đường hầm phải đóng cửa để tu bổ trong 3 năm và thực hiện một số chỉnh sửa. Ví dụ như xây các hốc tường cách nhau 100 mét, một trạm cứu hộ được bố trí ở giữa hầm. Các lối thoát hiểm được kết nối với một hành lang sơ tán. Vụ tai nạn được cho là một bước ngoặt khiến châu Âu phải thay đổi các tiêu chuẩn về an toàn trong các hầm giao thông. Công trình đường hầm Mont-Blanc được coi là tuyến đường hầm xuyên núi dài nhất, được xây dựng ở thế kỷ 20. Mặc dù kỷ lục về chiều dài này đã bị đánh bại bởi các đường hầm khác được xây dựng sau này (đường hầm xuyên núi Gotthard Base Tunnel, 57,1 km, Thụy Sĩ, dài nhất thế giới, tính đến năm 2016), Mont-Blanc vẫn được coi là “cựu binh huyền thoại” của các đường hầm xuyên núi.

Welcome to mid-spring here at The High Route Podcast. Here in the Pacific Northwest, ski crampon season. It is also the season to unearth an interview with Fay Manners, a British alpinist and ski mountaineer, recorded late last summer. Manners caught my attention for one reason: she practices the aforementioned mountain disciplines at a high level. To optimize mountain conditions in winter and the shoulder seasons, it helps to be skilled at rock, ice, and mixed climbing, and when the snow is stable and conditions prime, slapping skis or a snowboard on the feet makes sense, too. Over the years, British alpinist/ski-alpinist Fay Manners has built up a reputation as a go-getter. Which is to say that Manners comes with the full mountain-skills package.In 2024, Manners and Tom Lafaille opened up the Stratonspherique ski line on the Aiguille d'Argentière. On the alpinism side, Manners has the first female ascent of the Phantom Direct route on the south face of the Grand Jorasses. She also climbed the North Face of the Eiger, the American Direct on the Dru, and the Walker Spur on the Grandes Jorasses.Far from exuding the vibe of an adrenaline junkie, Manners imparts an ethos of building skills, becoming fit, and knowing when one is at their limits, and using those skills to—and again, we'll emphasize multi-disciplinarian skills—to move efficiently and safely in the hills.Manners has had her share of close calls. Having recorded this interview last summer, we had kept an eye on Manners and her adventures. When this headline came across a newsfeed, there was a sinking feeling: Two climbers go missing. These stories often don't end well. Manners and her partner, American alpinist Michelle Dvorak, were rescued three days later. The pair lost much of their gear, including their shelter, when rockfall severed a haul line. For those of us following thousands of miles away, the rescue came as a huge relief. On flat ground, Manners is trained and has worked as a data analyst; on less flat ground, she's come into her own as a mountain athlete. But for those just being introduced to the mountains, Manners is a reminder that mountain pedigree is what you make of it. In her twenties, Manners began tapping into snow and climbing while working as a data analyst in New York City. Good energy and ceaseless energy are two key qualities for those making a life for themselves in the hills. Aurélien Lardy, a prolific ski mountaineer based out of Chamonix, has been on a tear for the past few years. If first descents or rare repeats are a benchmark, Lardy, who goes by "Aurel" for short, has notched plenty of them. For example, he and Gaspard Ravanel repeated a sought-after ski/snowboard descent of the L'éperon des Jumeaux on the north side of the Aiguille du Midi this past May. Did we bury the lead here? In this episode of The High Route Podcast, Lardy takes a breather from the alpine as we catch him in Chamonix. (We recorded the interview this summer.) A former ski racer, and lover of both front flips and easy-access Cham-steeps, the San Antonio Spurs, and slow churn expeditions, we are psyched to have Lardy as our guest. There is something about Lardy's style that belies the very exposed positions he finds himself in. If you are a visual learner keen on mastering steep turns, Lardy's utterly smooth technique is the opposite of what we may conceive of as a jump turn. It is a high-alpine meditative practice: ski tips remain in contact with the snow, knees remain slightly bent, releasing just the right amount of kinetic energy, ski tails swing around, completing the turn. Mathematicians, surely, could derive an elegant equation to explain what we see. Then again, it could be pure art—steep-turning ballet. Lardy and his steep skiing and ski traversing clan will also surely make an appearance at an adventure film fest touring near you. He's featured in films about skiing in Argentine Patagonia (Painting the Mountains) and a mega-traverse in the Alaska Range (Les Jours Sauvages). If you still need to get your fill, the film Chronoception chronicles his adventures in Kyrgyzstan—it should be available online soon. No doubt, Lardy and his people are prolific. Let's focus on the Alaska Range ski traverse for a moment. 50+ days. And as noted in Les Jours Sauvages, the style is heavy and slow. The ski party enters the range in the low-lying bush, weighed down by sleds and a fair share of cigarettes; they slog into the heart of the Central Alaska Range via the Peters Glacier. They ski Denali and Sultana (Foraker), ski traverse and muddle out the range, and eventually pack raft back to Anchorage. Mon Dieu!Conversely, Painting the Mountains is a film about expressing the extrême. The Mont Blanc Valley is so amazing we decided to do our first video podcast - we hope you enjoy it. Chamonix is in the French Alps just north of Mont Blanc, and about an hours drive south of Geneva. Between the peaks of the Aiguilles Rouges and the Aiguille du Midi, it borders Switzerland and Italy and sits at the foot of Mont Blanc. It is one of the oldest ski resorts in France. AND Chamonix has some incredible skiing as well as history going back to Napoleon. Jean-Michel Poupart  lives in the Chamonix Valleywith his family and two dogs.  Jean- Michel has been a skiing instructor for 20 years in Chamonix he also specializes in off piste guiding; as a Mountain Leader member of the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix, he knows the mountain and the town. Il utilise un modèle dit texte-to-image. Pour faire simple, il lit le texte que vous lui fournissez et crée une image basée sur celui-ci.On parle de création généré par l'iA.—Mais comment marche vraiment MidJourney ?Midjourney prend votre description textuelle et l'exécute via un algorithme d'apprentissage automatique (ML). Cet algorithme a été formé sur des millions de données provenant d'images diffusées sur Internet.Où, quand, comment, quelles images ? Impossible de savoir. Midjourney n'a jamais communiqué sur l'origine de ces images.—La version 5 de Mid JourneyEn Mars, MidJourney a annoncé le lancement de la Version 5 de MidJourney. Encore plus intelligent, encore plus réaliste. Cette nouvelle version est une avancée technologique majeure. Elle a d'ailleurs fait couler beaucoup d'encre en raison du caractère troublant de ses propositions visuelles. Le pape en doudoune blanche, Emmanuel Macron qui ramasse les poubelles dans les rues de Paris.—Où trouver Mid Journey ?Midjourney ne fonctionne pas comme une application Web. Il n'y a pas non plus de codage requis.Au lieu de cela, vous l'utilisez dans l'application de chat Discord, en "parlant" à un bot. En tant qu'utilisateur gratuit/d'essai, c'est particulièrement chaotique, car vous interagissez avec le bot dans une room public très fréquenté, où tout le monde fait AUSSI la même chose !Si vous utilisez la version payante, (à partir de seulement 10Euros par mois), vous pourrez DM le bot dans votre propre serveur Discord, ce qui rendra l'expérience beaucoup plus calme.—L'art du promptPour commencer à utiliser Midjourney, tapez /imagine dans le chat public, suivi de votre texte. On appelle ça un prompt.Un prompt ça s'écrit en anglais. Ca oblige à ruser.—Une fois votre texte analysé, Midjourney vous présentera quatre images dans une grille à choisir. Choisissez celui qui vous semble le plus proche de votre description et sélectionnez le bouton U sous la grille pour le mettre à l'échelle. Vous pouvez aussi appuyer sur V pour créer plus de variations de votre image préférée. Vous pouvez également relancer le programme si les options ne sont pas assez bonnes. Notez qu'un utilisateur gratuit sera limité à 25 images—Utiliser midJourney pour illustrer des contenus social mediaC'est son point fort.Avec MidJourney5 vous avez vraiment un outil qui peut très habilement remplacer vos banques d'images en ligne.Vous décrivez votre image et il la génère.Par exemple, si j'ai besoin d'une photo réaliste d'une fourgonnette blanche qui roule sur une route de campagne française. Je peux passer 2 heures sur Shutterstock ou AdobeStock. Avec MidJourney ça ne prend que quelques secondes.Autre exemple, j'ai besoin de créer un post inspirationnel pour Instagram qui met en scène un petit chat tigré lové dans un panier. Bim ! MidJourney5 est ton meilleur ami.A date, MidJourney est vraiment un très bon outil pour illustrer ses posts.—Utiliser midJourney pour nourrir vos montages photoshopIl serait je pense une erreur d'imaginer que MidJourney comme une machine remplaçant vos créatifs. Au contraire je pense que c'est un outil qui vient vraiment nourrir vos workflows.Si par exemple je bosse pour une marque de food, il est illusoire de penser que MidJourney soit plug and play.Par contre, je peux par exemple demander à MidJourney de me générer une image réaliste en top View d'une assiette blanche sur une table en bois noir.Ensuite à charge pour moi de photoshoper mon produit dans la scène.Exemple avec Levis qui va utiliser des modèles générés pas IA pour ajouter plus de diversité—Utiliser midJourney pour expérimenter visuellement > conceptualiser—MidJourney et la question des droitsIl y a des inquiétudes concernant le droit d'auteur.Le fondateur de midJourney a d'ailleurs admis qu'il n'avait pas reçu le consentement des créateurs sur lequel le modèle a été formé.Avec des millions d'images nécessaires pour un modèle de cette taille, cela signifierait des millions de violations du droit d'auteur.Mais quid de l'usage des images générées ?Lorsque l'on souscrit à un abonnement MidJourney, vous disposez d'un droit d'usage commercial. Ce qui veut dire que vous pouvez utiliser l'image générée où et comment vous souhaitez.—MidJourney a ses limites, et elles sont encore nombreusesLa résolution est modeste.
