The fiftieth edition of PHANTASYMIX arrives courtesy of our most recent signing, Factory Floor. Mixed and curated by both Nik Colk Void alongside long-term label associate Gabe Gurnsey, as well as new member Joe Ward, this momentous contribution to the label's long-running series captures and combines many of the cult British band's core influences, spanning New Order to Dean Blunt, Sandwell District, Drexciya and The Fall. Loaded with the band's experimental, outsider spirit it's a fine hour of physical, potent outsider music, including their recent single on Phantasy, ‘Between You'. “We're happy to share with you a mix of our favourite current listening and inspiration ! A mix of our love for electronic and acoustic live performance and collaboration, past and contemporary. We hope you enjoy the journey!” - Factory Floor

Reliving our live NO-Fi episode in Club OOST last wednesday! Tune in to hear what you missed out on Follow NO-FI Radio on Instagram!
Heaving ourselves into 2025 like a rebuilt BILLY with half its dowels missing, No Tags returns to its usual schedule. We kick off with a journey to the North Circular, where London's biggest club is under investigation following two drug-related deaths and an alleged stabbing. Following the recent revelations about Drumsheds in Jim Waterson's excellent London Centric newsletter, Tom and Chal ask: why is it so hard to have a realistic conversation about safety in clubs?Next we indulge in one of our favourite anorak pastimes – arguing about arbitrary historical groupings of underground records! We contend that 2013 was the best year for album releases so far this century, with DJ Rashad, Oneohtrix Point Never, Sky Ferreira, Kanye West and Dean Blunt among the strong portfolio of evidence. Finally, an announcement! ‘Tis the season for hibernating in front of the TV and racking up those numbers on Letterboxd, and in that spirit we are proud to present – adapted from an original opinion by DJ and friend-of-the-show Finn McCorry – the first ever No Tags film season! Introducing: Big Beat Cinema. Look out for that next week.In the meantime, if you enjoyed this episode of No Tags, please do rate, review and subscribe on your podcast app of choice, as it does really help. We'd also ask you to consider subscribing to our paid tier, which costs £5 a month and helps us continue planning, recording, editing and transcribing these regular podcasts – or in the case of next week's episode, will go towards renting some seriously ropey turn-of-the-noughties films. 'Nadie sabe' es una canción muy bonita. Un baladón que no pierde la esencia bailable. En esa mezcla se encuentran por un lado el dúo Ciutat, y por otro Tristán!, el miembro más joven del colectivo rusia IDK. Esto es, el moderneo barcelonés y el madrileño. 'Nadie Sabe' es un paso más hacia 'Ciutat L'Amistat', el segundo LP de Ciutat previsto para este otoño. In this special edition, Alec and Nick open the Flavortone vault to present The Great Bar Italia Debate — a lost episode from the summer of 2023, presented here in timely coincidence with the London group's recent Crack profile. The debate poses questions about musical style, local vs. global cultural and community dynamics and politics of taste along the well-established axis of London and NYC's cultural exchange. Taking up discussion of “the band” as a conceptual and presentational format, rather than as a presumptive participatory vehicle, the episode examines the alternative forms of consumption, exchange and imaginative role-play, which Bar Italia's approach invites. Topics include the question: “Do we like this?,” the band's 2023 quasi-residency of multiple NYC concerts, transatlantic indie rock history, Dean Blunt, and Thomas Turino's cultural framework for “presentational” (as opposed to “participatory”) music.
Our host this week is artist and musician GAIKA - he was born in London and raised in the city's night clubs. He released his debut mixtape Machine, in 2015 and since released a string of projects including BASIC VOLUME and Seguridad. He has collaborated with some of the most renowned names in contemporary music, including 3D of Massive Attack, Dean Blunt, Kelela, Mike Skinner, Mykki Blanco and SOPHIE. Alongside his music he has also created a number of art installations and has just released his new album Drift. Joining him are a group of artists whose music incorporates hip-hop, dub poetry and experimental pop – plus lots of spaces in between. First is British rapper Speech Debelle, who released her debut album Speech Therapy in 2009, which went on to win the coveted Mercury prize. She released two further albums in 2012 and 2017. In June the self-confessed food lover shared her latest album Sunday Dinner On A Monday. Next up is a singer-songwriter, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Lucinda Chua. Based in South London, she primarily uses her voice, a cello, and an array of effects units to create her music, and released her debut album Yian in March. Finally, South London-born poet and musician James Massiah, a wordsmith who has built a reputation for his literary voice. His collaborators include The xx and Massive Attack. He released his Natural Born Killers EP in 2019 and at the end of last year shared the latest in his New Poems series, Volume 4. Together they discuss their song-writing process, whether they are led by words or music, and the psychological effect of creativity. In the second half of the programme, Speech Debelle takes us through a playlist called Music Is Good Food, featuring tracks from Black Uhuru, Prince, Kelis, plus more.

Mieko Kawakami's Future Fable invites us to reconsider common fears, while underlining the preciousness of friendship. Mieko Kawakami was recently shortlisted for the International Booker Prize for her novel Heaven (2009), translated by David Boyd, who also translated this fable. Her latest novel is All the Lovers in the Night. The theme music for the series was composed by Dean Blunt; episodes were mixed, designed and mastered by Hannah Webster at Unit; and each tale is read by Gabriel Santos from Aesop.
This episode features the musician and painter, Joanne Robertson whose work is born from improvisation. She regularly collaborates with other artists, such as Dean Blunt and Sidsel Meineche Hansen, who plays a vacuum on Joanne's most recent release. We discuss her ideas on music, art and life, all while she nurses her newborn baby. Featured image Photo courtesy Bruna Amaral Host Ross Simonini Credits Produced by ArtReview and Ross Simonini

Your hosts this episode: Patrique OptimalAudio It's that time of year again! In another twelve months for new sounds Dónal charts the year in tunes. The stated criterion is that it's new names only but some diversions are taken to include essential releases from familiar artists like Shirley Collins, Dean Blunt and Oneohtrix Point Never. Otherwise it's a voyage of discovery all the way from the frozen north in Norway to the beating heart of Niger. Matt and Nick welcome guest host James this time around, so we can rip apart lots of music, including Dean Blunt, Kele, Laura Mvula and Stubborn Heart, and then a classic from Janet Jackson. James then talks about his obsession with New Young Pony Club.
Another week of strange weather, but Mark and Brendan are back with some red-hot music to share. This week's featured tracks include a song from Dean Blunt's new album, Black Metal 2, a moody new dance track from Park Hye Jin, a great bit of Aussie psych pop from Pond, and a frosty 1980s remix by the team of TVAM and Charlotte Spiral, remixed by DC Gore. And the archive track this week is opening song from the debut album from Manchester's The Stone Roses--a personal favorite of Mark's and Brendan's. Bonus tracks cover a number of genres, with new songs from Courtney Barnett, Connan Mockasin (and his father), the Nashville band Pile, a dance banger from DJ Seinfeld and Teira, some smoking live cut from Norway's modern jazz powerhouse Jaga Jazzist, and we wrap with the new single from Mykki Blanco, featuring Blood Orange's Dev Hynes. Have a great weekend, and a wonderful week ahead!

Hippos In Tanks was a Los Angeles based record label founded in 2010 by Barron Machat and Travis Woolsey. Inactive since late 2015 due to Barron Machat’s passing in a car crash in Miami. The label, named after the novel by Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs ‘And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks’, started as a radio program but became in just a couple of year the benchmark for a new wave of Internet age experimental artists such as Dean Blunt, Laurel Halo and James Ferraro. The episode features: D’Eon, Dean Blunt, James Ferraro, Hype Williams, White Car, Triad God, Bodyguard, Laurel Halo, Sleep ∞ Over.

Confessions - Eyto - Bounce Idén az első podkaztot jegyző The Stanley Maneuver drámaian magasra tette a lécet az év hátralévő részére. A hipnotikus zaj/dal kollázsokban utazó Confessions album sorozatának harmadik fejezetét januárban megjelentető művészt valószínűleg sokan hallottátok már Eyto néven lemezeket pörgetni elsősorban Budapest party-életét évek óta folyamatosan izgalmi állapotban tartó Bounce társaság szervezte bulikon. A stílushatárokat nem különösebben kultiváló csapat dj-jeként valószínűleg letaglózott már hol koszos, absztrakt elektronikából, hiphopból induló valamilyen post, urban izébe érkező, hol diggereket kétségbeejtő kollekciót felvillantó frenetikus house meneteivel. Ha nem, pótold. A The Stanley Maneuver projekt még ennél is meredekebb alapállásból indít, amelynek sajátos lenyomata uralja nekünk készített összeállítását is.
