The March 2025 edition of Mardi Gras Anthems marks a decade of anthems as I started making them back in 2015. For this set I've reached back to classic hits from the 80's and 90's with modern updates as well as some more recent songs from this millennium. The set kicks off with a repurposed mix of Kylie's "Better The Devil You Know" followed by an updated mix of "Happenin' All Over Again" by Lonnie Gordon, which was one of my favourite Stock Aitken Watermen songs from back in the day. The amazing Division 4 provides three stand out mixes here for Madonna, Aretha Franklin and Vanessa Amorosi respectively. The equally amazing Mark from Dirty Disco also features four of his mixes here and as always, I'm very grateful to them both for providing me with their remixes. Classic songs from Anastacia, Céline Dion, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Tina Cousins and Cher all feature here. One of my all time favourite songs from the 90's was "Heaven" by Sarah Washington and here it is given a killer new remix from 7th Heaven. Robbie Carrigan delivers a stellar mix of the classic "It's Raining Men" by The Weather Girls as well. I'll be away for the whole Mardi Gras weekend celebrating my birthday so here are some awesome anthems to help you celebrate Mardi Gras. After the big creative risk that was previous single and video "Better The Devil You Know", Kylie Minogue and Stock Aitken Waterman went for something more playful with follow-up "Step Back In Time". With its fun lyrical nod to '70s disco music and a video dripping in retro style, the song was pure pop joy — and another big hit at a time when the Hit Factory sorely needed one. Mike Stock and Matt Aitken recall pulling the lyrics together for the nostalgic tune, while Phil Harding and Ian Curnow provide insight into the mixing stage, which was a crucial part of the process in delivering a single that satisfied Kylie's desire to be relevant in clubs. Phil and Ian also discuss the track they wrote with Kylie in 1990, "I Am The One For You", as part of PWL's efforts to accommodate her eagerness to develop her songwriting skills. Over in the US, Kylie also wrote with Michael Jay, who returns to the podcast to talk about Rhythm Of Love track "The World Still Turns", while former PWL engineer Peter Day also shares memories of working on the album, in particular the track "Always Find The Time". And on the visual side of things, Nick Egan details how he came to work with Kylie on both the "Step Back In Time" video and the cover for Rhythm Of Love. As great a song as it is, "Better The Devil You Know" would not have been anywhere near as impactful as it was without its accompanying music video. A landmark in Kylie Minogue's career, the video transformed her image from that of girl-next-door to "sex kitten", according to director Paul Goldman, who joins us to detail the before, during and aftermath of the shoot, including his run-ins with PWL over the direction it took. Stylist Nicole Bonython-Hines recalls piecing together the various looks for the video and manager Terry Blamey gives his thoughts on why the video was so important for Kylie. We also hear from Sharon McPhilemy and David Howells from PWL about the reaction from Kylie's UK label to the new-look star. Then, Kylie's long-time musical director, Steve Anderson, talks us through their enduring relationship with the song and how it has been reinterpreted on tour over the decades.Subscribe for bonus material at chartbeats.com.au/sawTwitter: @ChartBeatsAU, @MrMattDenbyInstagram: @chartbeatsauFacebook: Chart Beats: A Journey Through PopEmail: chartbeats.au@gmail.com
After two very successful albums at PWL, but little in the way of artistic control, Kylie Minogue was ready for a change. And in this first part of a two-part special looking at landmark release "Better The Devil You Know", we hear from those closest to her about the strategy taken to compel Stock Aitken Waterman to agree to a more collaborative approach. From directly influencing the style of tracks — edgier, clubbier — to veto power on the final mixes, Kylie gained input to an extent way beyond any other Hit Factory artist. In turn, SAW delivered what is widely regarded as one of their all-time best tracks. The lead single from eventual third studio album Rhythm Of Love, "Better The Devil You Know" was SAW tapping back into their club roots, but in a way that was still pure pop. And while the song has gone down as a landmark release in Kylie's career, not everyone was thrilled with the way the working relationship or the musical output was developing. In Part 2 (coming soon), we'll focus on the game-changing music video. Interviews in Part 1: Mike Stock, Matt Aitken, Yoyo, Pete Hammond, Julian Gingell, Miriam Stockley, Karen Hewitt and one more very special guest connected to Kylie, who features on the podcast for the first time.Subscribe for bonus material at chartbeats.com.au/sawTwitter: @ChartBeatsAU, @MrMattDenbyInstagram: @chartbeatsauFacebook: Chart Beats: A Journey Through PopEmail: chartbeats.au@gmail.com
The Rasmus-Hit "In The Shadows" neu eingespielt. "In The Shadows of Ukraine" ist hörens- und sehenswert.
Episode 36 kicked off on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 15 Sept 2022. We are into the last 15% of Quarter 3 and then that is 2022 in its P. Amazing, time really does fly. We kicked off the show with 'The Longest Day' by Iron Maiden. At over seven minutes it was a nice way to give everyone a chance to settle in. From there we went to Mötley Crüe for a bit of ‘Power To The Music', and that's what TSORR is all about. That track features John Corabi on vocals, John has just released his biography so I will let yo know how that is once I finish it. From there we had something from Lita Ford off her album titled Living Like a Runaway. Then it was back to the classics with my favorite band Judas Priest and a track called 'Desert Plains'. From Priest, we went to a band out of Arizona called Icon with a track called 'World War'. Hopefully, that won't happen. We checked the title track off Surfing With The Alien, what a classic, the album cost $ 13 000 to make and sold a million copies. I am sure Joe Satriani is still very happy about that. And then an hour in everything went to shit. We are getting load shedding in South Africa, three to four times every 24 hours and it is wreaking havoc with everything including Rebel Rock Radio and The Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show. Forgive the rant I had, we are really struggling here. Once comms were eventually restored, I focused on good times music like Metal Church's 'Date With Poverty', Motor Sister with 'A Hole', Nine Inch Nails with 'The Wretched' and Megadeth's ‘Dogs of Chernobyl'. All pretty much aimed at the government that has stolen all the money and destroyed all the infrastructure. There is so much good music out at the moment, the New Ozzy Osbourne was released last week and we took a listen to a track called 'One of Those Days' which features Eric Clapton. I reckon Eric has come out tops here, of all the megastar guitarists featured on the album he just gets it perfect. Another new album I have been playing a lot of is Burning Black by NWOBHM pioneers Desolation Angels featuring Clive Pearson on bass. Clive was in local SA metal band Lynx back in the early '80s. With 50 minutes to go, it was time to forget about the ANC abortion and let the music take over. Steel Panther with 'Gold Digging Whore' bought some levity to the show and seeing as we were down there Buckcherry with 'Ridin'' and Sound Garden with 'Big Dumb Sex' kept the show completely NSFW. We needed to check out some SA music and paid our respects to Dennis East who passed away this week. Dennis and Mike Pilot gave us Stingray and the wonderful ‘Better The Devil You Know'. From there we had ‘Baby Murdered Me' from Springbok Nude Girls featuring one of Theo Crous's best solos ever, and there have been a few, in my opinion. We ended off with Parkway Drive and the title track off their new album released last week called 'Darker Still'. Check out the second solo, it sounds great. Artists featured: Iron Maiden, Mötley Crüe, Lita Ford, Judas Priest, Icon, Joe Satriani, Cirith Ungol, Humble Pie, Cream, Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions, The Gaslight Anthem, Last In Line, Titus Andronicus, Trivium, Motor Sister, Nine Inch Nails, Metal Church, Hell Fire, Nazareth, Hole, Kid Rock, Megadeth, Cradle of Filth, Desolation Angels, Saxon, Steel Panther, ACDC, Buckcherry, Soundgarden, Stingray. Springbok Nude Girls, The Black Cat Bones, Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Parkway Drive.

Pete Waterman produced and co-wrote over 200 hit singles in the 1980s. While most critics dismissed the music as worthless, the public, who bought many million records, and Pete Waterman's bank manager, knew the exact worth of it. Was the music formulaic? Yes, but that could be said for much of pop. Was it tuneful and danceable? Absolutely. Did it accurately reflect the ‘dress up & dance', ‘showing out', ‘loadsamoney' spirit of the 80s? Oh yes, indeed! Britain's production team Stock, Aitken & Waterman (SAW) used the new technology of the 1980s to make a string of contagious hits for many pop artists including Kylie Minogue (I Should Be So Lucky, Better The Devil You Know), Jason Donovan, Mel & Kim (Showing Out, Respectable) Bananarama (Love In The First Degree, I'm Your Venus) and Rick Astley. Astley's warm baritone voice gave SAW rare transatlantic successes with two #1s in America including Never Gonna Give You Up). Here is the first part of my interview with the man who said he had “Woolworths EARS”, Pete Waterman. #petewaterman #richardniles #radiorichard #sawteam #kylieminogue #jasondonovan #malandkim #bananarama #rickastley Please Like, Share, and Subscribe to our YouTube channel:
Hi fellas! Welcome to the another ep. I had an absolute pleasure to talk with Tom from Galleons and Valiant Hearts. This man is one of the best voices in the scene and he proves that on Galleons's new, self-tilted album which was the main topic of this episode. We were talking about the Tom's favourites from the album, the features and a lot of other cool stuff! Also, we did a deep dive into the music buisness, which was very fun and educating for me. I encourage you to listen to Tom's bands, you will not regret it! And as always - thanks for listening! The song at the end of the episode is "Better The Devil You Know" featuring Phil Bayer by Galleons from their new album! CHECK IT OUT HERE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_BiZBGpp_Y

FINALLY she's here, Kylie Minogue. The Australian Diva whom I've been a fan of ever since her first single release "The Locomotion" back in 1987 which she did for charity. This coupled with her popularity on the Australian tv soap "Neighbours" propelled her into a recording career that exploded in the late 80's and continued to grow and evolve in the 90's. Even though she was hugely popular in the mainstream pop charts in both Australia and the UK, it took persistence and dedication to gain acceptance in the broader music world as she was pidgeon holed as a 'pop princess'. As she matured, so did her music. Kylie delved into the Indie music genre as well as electronic house & club while still staying in touch with her pop roots. Over the years, Kylie has gained true 'Icon status' and has a fiercely loyal fan base around the world. As she is bringing her "Golden" tour to Sydney in March 2019 I decided to do as full a retrospective of her music anthology as I could. Volume 1 looks back at her early pop days when she was heavily linked to the Stock, Aitken, Waterman hit making machine in the UK. As we are looking back at Kylie's musical history, the set appropriately kicks of with her smash single "Step Back In Time". Her self titled debut album spawned hits such as "I Should Be So Lucky" & "Got To Be Certain". Her album "Enjoy Yourself" gave us "Hand On Your Heart" and "Never Too Late". "Rhythm Of Love" gave us her iconic hits "Better The Devil You Know", "Step Back In Time", "What Do I Have To Do" and "Shocked". These are all the original mixes of the day when the BPM was around 116 to 122. Volume 2 will feature music from her 90's/Naughties career. Enjoy Yourself Anthony 1/ "STEP BACK IN TIME" (Original 12" Club Mix) 2/ "I SHOULD BE SO LUCKY" (Extended Remix) 3/ "GOT TO BE CERTAIN" (Extended Club Mix) 4/ "I STILL LOVE YOU" (JE NE SAIS PAS POURQUOI) (The Revolutionary Club Mix) 5/ "TURN IT INTO LOVE" (PWL Club Mix) 6/ "HAND ON YOUR HEART" (The Great Aorta Club Mix) 7/ "NEVER TOO LATE" (Extended Remix) 8/ "BETTER THE DEVIL YOU KNOW" (Mad March Hare Club Mix) 9/ "WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO" (Hot Tracks Remix) 10/ "SHOCKED" (Harding/Curnow Club Mix) 11/ "WHAT KIND OF FOOL" (HEARD ALL THAT BEFORE) (Tech No Logical Club Mix) 12/ "CELEBRATION" (Have A Party Club Mix)
