This week on an all-new episode of Drunk Distory presents ‘The Dark Ride', we continue our deep dive into hotels around the theme park world with Drunk Distory's Resort Round Up. On this Episode, get ready to curl up under the great wooded way and wake up to jugglers, magicians, and other unscrupulous roustabouts trying to swindle you out of your hard-earned greenbacks, at Disney's Boardwalk Resort. All we are missing is a seedy casino and this deluxe hotel would have all the trappings of ... Atlantic City,...New... Florida, wait I may be confused by all this colorful amusement. So confused that we should get some help on this one. This ep we have the magnificent pleasure of being joined by Main Street Mel (@main.street.mel), a longtime friend of the pod and I can't think of a better person to help fend off all these carnies. Will this amenity and transportation heavy hotel strike the bell of the strong man game, or will its loud over the big top atmosphere have it stuck sitting on the dock of the bay. There's only one way to find out!

Disney's Boardwalk Resort and Disney's Paradise Pier resort are both in close proximity to the second gate parks on both coasts. Disney's Boardwalk is a thoroughly Imagineered resort from top to bottom. It has theming details that will blow your mind. So many that we had to carry them over to our "after hours" show we release on our facebook page . Disney's Paradise Pier (soon to be Pixar) resort is a lightly overlayed hotel built by a Japanese conglomerate in the 80s. Both hotels have access to the second gate of each property. They both keep you in the "Disney Bubble", they are moth similarly priced but which resort will reign supreme as the best bang for your buck when staying on property at either Disneyland or Walt Disney World? Season 2, Episode 36 - Planning for a Holiday! Planning for a Holiday Hey everyone, I'm Mike, she's Sophie, and that's Brenda, and we're On the Road with Mickey! This is Season 2, Episode 36 for September 6, 2021, and our feature topic today is Planning for a Holiday. For today's podcast, which falls this year on Labor Day here in the US, we are talking about our tips for things you need to consider as you tackle Walt Disney World during a holiday. As always, we want to hear from you. What are your tips and tricks? Let us know in the comments! Now, here's the rundown of what we talked about: Updates from last week:In the Facebook Group, the things that people wanted to do most in the Never Have I Ever category are the behind the scenes tours when they are back!Brenda's guests left us a great comment on what the Cast Members are looking for to be chosen to be the Grand Marshall of the Parade: What they've told us is that they look for:1. People without little kids. They typically don't pick kids because of the time commitment. It takes about 2-4 hours.2. Leisurely stroll into the park. We stop at Starbucks to get a drink and take in Main Street before entering the park.3. Show the Disney spirit! We typically wear matching shirts, ears and sometimes shoes too.4. The last time we were picked he followed us from Main Street to the Haunted Mansion (it was his favorite ride). We've had different people pick us each time. Cheddar from the Big CheeseMike: Walt Disney World Annual Passes will be going back on sale starting September 8th! They have 4 types of passes, three of which are for Florida Residents or DVC Members only. The fourth pass, known as the Disney Incredi-pass, is open to everyone and is the most expensive at $1,299 + tax per person. Brenda: A couple of things of note -- some of the Club Level lounges are reopening! The lounge at Animal Kingdom Lodge is now open, the Royal Palm Club at the Grand Floridian opens on September 16, the BoardWalk Resort is September 23rd, and the Contemporary is September 26th. Other Club Level lounges will open beyond that.Brenda: Also, Disney Cruise Line is offering up to 25% off on select sailings in September, October, and November. Reach out to us if you want to look into pricing.Sophie: A couple of weeks ago at Animal Kingdom Park, Azizi and Gino, two western lowland gorillas, gave birth to their first daughter. Well, the troop themselves revealed their name -- Ada (pronounced Ah-duh) -- which means first daughter. This is appropriate because this is Azizi's first daughter she's had. You may be able to see them at the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, where they have been seen bonding. Season 2, Episode 21 - Under Appreciated at Disney Under Appreciated at Disney Hey everyone, I'm Mike, she's Sophie, and that's Brenda, and we're On the Road with Mickey! This is Season 2, Episode 21 for May 24, 2021, and our feature topic today is Under Appreciated at Disney. Today we are taking a look at the things at Disney that we feel are under-appreciated and need some love and recognition. So, grab a drink, relax, and join us as we talk about all the things that we came up with! Here's our rundown of what we talked about: Cheddar from the Big CheeseBrenda: From Sunday, Jan. 23 through Thursday, Jan. 28, 2022, the Disney Skyliner line between EPCOT International Gateway, Disney's Riviera Resort and Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort will be closed. During this time, Disney bus transportation will be provided for Guests to EPCOT. FriendShip boat service is also available for EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's BoardWalk Resort and Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts.Sophie: Over at Disney's Hollywood Studios Park, Disney has relocated the areas where ride sharing services pickup and dropoff from. But equally intriguing is that they have also installed Minnie Van signs in the same area. You may remember the Minnie Vans that were the polka dotted vehicles that you could hire through the Lyft service. It looks like they are returning, although we don't know when just yet.Mike: Disney has released a new offer for United Kingdom residents! The package includes up to $950 in Disney dining credits for guests staying two weeks at select Disney hotels. Also included are 14-day park tickets for the price of 7-day tickets for arrival dates in 2022. Memory Maker is also included with those tickets. Also, every booking will also receive a $200 Disney Gift Card. Finally, if UK residents book by July 17, 2021 in select Disney hotels, you'll receive a free celebration gift basket, which contains a Limited Edition 50th Anniversary commemorative coin, exclusive Disney merch and treats, and a Mickey insulated cooler bag.Mike: Lastly, from June 7-12, the Magic Kingdom's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closing for a short refurbishment.Connect with us! We hope this triggers discussion in your family about your top rides, and that you let us know what they are! Grab a drink, relax, and join us as we talk about all the things that we came up with! The original poll was 52% - 48% for Soarin' Around the World, but then we did a poll last week and Soarin' Over California won 67% - 33%!Sophie: From the Disney Parks Blog: “We’re revealing the first-ever Walt Disney World Resort specialty license plate today in honor of “The World’s Most Magical Celebration,” beginning on Oct. 1, 2021. Supporting the local community, 100% of the proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida.Brenda: As part of the small refurbishment projects that Walt Disney World is doing in order to get ready for the 50th Anniversary, the Main Street Confectionary and The Chapeau will be closing on March 29. We’re not sure how long the refurbishment will last, but it is showing closed at least through May 24th. While they are closed, the offerings that you would normally buy at these locations will be available at other places on Main Street.Mike: Wow, Spring Break has arrived at Disney! The park availability calendar shows that nearly all of the parks are completely booked as far as Park Pass reservations go. It varies as to what days have what availability to if you are looking to make park reservations, make sure you check the availability before you purchase your tickets!Sophie: If you are going to be at Disney around the Easter holiday, there are several locations where you can view the Easter Displays. Mr. Cora started his Disney career at Disneyland in 1957 as a part-time attractions host polishing 3D glasses at the Mickey Mouse Club Theater, and retired 43 years later as chairman of Disney International. He credited his rise through Disney to the boss, Walt Disney, who sent him over to Disney University founder Van Arsdale France with the admonition: “Tell him Walt sent you. I think he may have something for you.” Josh D’Amaro had this to say in a statement: “Very few people have a Disney legacy that reaches as far and wide as Jim Cora. His dedication to bringing Disney magic to people around the world was only matched by the passion he exuded throughout his career and for the many years that followed. I always loved hearing Jim’s thoughts about our business. He was one of our last connections to Walt Disney and he will be missed dearly.”Brenda: Yay! Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure Park are reopening on April 30! Currently,

Calling all fans of Disney, Running, or Inquiring Minds about how much protein to eat. We have the episode for you. You'll hear all about the MAJOR pixie dust my son William received at Typhoon Lagoon, the best places to run at Disney World, where to eat at DW, what rides you must ride, and the resorts my husband Robert and I recommend. Becky Kotsifas is back to tell us about her third half marathon this year at Disney, the Disneyland Half Marathon, and compares it to other runDisney races she has run. Serena Marie, RD, talks all things protein and then Serena and I discuss our training for the Chicago, NYC, and Philadelphia Marathons. Want to know about how you too can have the gift of running be a part of your lifestyle? Head over to therunninglifestyle.com/join and you'll receive the 11 Strategies to Live the Running Lifestyle. Special thank you to Jeff Galloway and ElliptiGo for getting me ready to run the Chicago, NYC, and Philadelphia Marathons. ElliptiGo is like a an elliptical machine/bike that you ride outside. It gives you a great runners high (and I mean HIGH) and lets you “run” without the impact! William Gormley · How to experience the ultimate pixie dust at Disney World, which is opening a park. William Gormley shares with you how he was “Big Kahuna” and what that means. And how you can be Big Kahuna someday. Robert Gormley · What resorts to stay at and running around the Boardwalk, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom (don't do it!), and Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter · New restaurants we tried · The restaurant which is the best value when it comes to Crab Legs · The number one tip when eating at Be Our Gust · Favorite restaurants we go to every time · What dessert NOT TO MISS at Boma · What rides not to miss at the parks · What great tips we received from The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World by Bob Sehlinger and Len Testa. The big takeaways when it comes to the interviews with William and Robert Gormley is that you need to get to a park early, if you want to be able to open it. We strongly recommend running at the Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter Resorts. Some restaurants not to miss are Cape May Cafe, Be Our Guest, Boma, Sanaa, California Grill, Wolf Gang Puck Express, and Narcoose's. Our favorite rides include Kilimanjaro Safari, Expedition Everest, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, Toy Story Midway Mania, Soarin, and Test Track. We booked directly with Disney World this trip. When we don't go through the Disney World Reservations to book our trip, we have been very happy and satisfied with David's Vacation Club Rentals. Through David's service, we have been able to pay a moderate hotel's price, but stay at Deluxe Resorts including Bay Lake Tower, Beach Club, Animal Kingdom Kidani Village (with a savannah view) and the Boardwalk Resort. Every time we have requested a certain type of room, David's team has been able to come through for us (thank you!). Becky Kotsifas · Discusses her year of Run Disney - Princess Half, Tinkerbell Half, Disneyland Half, and Wine and Dine Half · The special medals Becky has received for running multiple races · Celebrating the 10 year Anniversary of runDisney · Highlights of the Disneyland Half Marathon · The signs along the course · The breakdown of men vs. women in the Disneyland Half · Why the Wine and Dine Half Marathon is a favorite among many people Serena Marie, RD, · Why you need protein even if you're not lifting a lot of weights · Serena's explanation of how much protein a runner needs & how to do it · How to estimate your protein needs depending on your running distance and goals · How to estimate a portion of protein if you are a man or woman · Where to go for a list grams of protein in foods · What are great sources of protein The big take-aways from our talk with Serena are to know how much protein you need based on your goals, weight, and distance. If you're training for for 5ks/10ks or recreational running aim for ~1 gram of protein per kilogram. If you're training for marathons should aim for ~1.2-1.4 gm/kg protein. If you're training for endurance events in conjunction to heavy strength training regimen ideally aim for ~1.6-1.7 gm/kg. Go to https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/eat/fd_exch.htm (which is actually a site through the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, but refers to the American Dietetic Association food exchanges) to get a list of how much protein is in a serving. You can estimate protein by looking at your palm. If you're a woman, your palm can be estimated to be a 4-5 ounce portion of high biological value protein (meat, fish, eggs). If you're a man, your palm will represent 5-6 ounces of high biological value protein. Each ounce of animal protein has 6 grams of protein. Please say a prayer, send positive intentions, that Serena's knee gets better. Another way to support our efforts is to donate to Team Kari and Serena Run NYC and Chicago for Action for Healthy Kids. Every dollar makes a difference in helping a child eat healthier foods and move their bodies. Next week we're going to hear from Dr. Vinny Kripalu, MD, an internist who practices an integrated medical approach and is a fellow marathoner. Please subscribe to the podcast through iTunes, Stitcher, or whatever podcast app you use. You never know when a surprise episode comes up and by subscribing, you won't miss it. :-)

This week we're going to continue exploring Disney's Boardwalk Resort, as we recently spent time wandering the lobby and lounge to discover its stories, history and details. Now, come with us as we virtually tour the Luna Park pool area and discover what inspired this play area and its many details. Then, follow along with me and Jim Korkis and we wander the promenade around Crescent Lake, stopping to discuss the Boardwalk, shops, restaurants and details, inside and out. We'll also discuss the "Boardwalk That Might Have Been," and the concepts that never made it to reality. I'll have the answer to our last Walt Disney World Trivia Question of the Week, and pose a new challenge for your chance to win a Disney prize package. I'll also announce a new WDW Radio event and meet coming in March before playing some of your voicemails at the end of the show so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show. ------------------------------------- THANK YOU for your support by voting WDW Radio Best Travel Podcast for 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012! ------------------------------------- Visit http://WDWRadio.com for our Disney blog, videos, events and more!
