Warmest of welcomes everybody This month on the Mooglecast, Max and Zac are joined by Gary (TheSlyGCooper) for a half (maybe 1/4) failed attempt at a Mooglecast X PlatinumAchievements episode. For the preshow we discussed the streak of sickness over at the plattycheevs and spoke some more about game of the megacast showcase, Zacs Untitled Goose Game sequel. Of course we get into our usual run of the show with Platinum shoutouts and a Resident Evil focused entry of The Record. Although the recommendation was RE4 Remake, the crew had a variety of opinions on the best games to start with in the series. The meat & potatoes for the episode was centred on some of our favourite boss battles across all video games. Complete with a huge amount of audience write ins we had a chance to dive into the the fundimentals of a memorable boss fight and how its not just good combat design or appearance bit rather a collective of equal factors. From One Winged Angels to Dark Alien Kings, From Underworld warriors to OP Wrestlers. We each list 5 of our best and most memorable foes. Relive the nostalgia and frustration. We'll see you in May but until then. Be excellent to eachother. Max P.S We had multiple technical difficulties whilst recording this episode, luckily we caught them all very quickly but we apologise if the talkers full thoughts weren't spoken. Thank you for your understanding.
We're back with another episode in our Nintendo RPG category, this time featuring Nintendo's iconic mascot, Mario! Super Mario RPG was released initially in 1996 for the Super Nintendo with a full remake released in 2023 for the Nintendo Switch. Team up with a party of unlikely allies on a quest to repair Star Road and defeat the troublemaking Smithy Gang. The brothers agree that the characters are a major highlight of the game and also offer praise at the offering of side content. They also agree on the game's difficulty (or lack thereof) and ponder what can possibly change to make things easier in the game's Breezy mode. Ant recalls playing the SNES version and draws comparisons to the remake. Another reference to Super Smash Bros is made, as is tradition when discussing Nintendo games on Brothers & Boss Battles. This week the brothers ask which character would you take with you on a mission to defeat Smithy and his gang? Geno, Peach, or Bowser.Follow us onX @BrosBossBattlesInstagram @BrosBossBattleshttps://brothersandbossbattles.com/

Arty leads Sir Parrik, Bariq, Steven III, and MikMek back into the lair of the necromancer Chetiin to finish the job! They battle watery ghouls and the wraith of former cleric Cassius, then press their way in to discover the eldritch library where the spirit of former warlock Rasprax is held captive by the nefarious Chetiin! An epic battle commences, with clever use of Silence by Arty, Moonbeam by Bariq and Parrik, and other spells to keep Chetiin contained while Rasprax strikes at the characters from within the walls. Parrik summons spectral berserkers with his Horn of Valhalla, and Steven takes blow after blow while MikMek shoots from the shadows. When at last the evil necromancer is defeated, the players regain some old treasures and find a few new ones, including a Cloak of the Bat that MikMek is excited to use.
Bosses make the gamin' world go 'round, and Smash is no exception to that rule. Zantok and Jonno spend some time reflecting on bosses in Smash thus far, who they'd like to see next, and how they'd like to see them incorporated.

The Dreamcast may have been a commercial failure, but here at Brothers & Boss Battles, we are celebrating its launch with our next category - games that were initially released on Sega's final console. This week we'll be discussing Shenmue, which released in December 1999. Pete can't remember any of the characters' names. Tom describes the losing ending to this game that most players don't get to see or even know exists. Ant loves the realism of getting to explore a town and participate in a pre work game of forklift racing. The brothers get a kick out of some of the dialogue and voice acting . Pete makes a bold claim about Shenmue and its role in the fate of the Dreamcast. This week the brothers ask if you needed to kill time before looking for the Mad Angels what activity in Dobuita would you choose? Play some games at the arcade, grab a drink at the bar, or get a tattoo. Follow us on X @BrosBossBattles Instagram @BrosBossBattles https://brothersandbossbattles.com/
Low Magic. We've discussed it before and, in last weeks article, DM Chris delved into ideas of how to make magic rare and special in your D&D campaigns. In our discussion online regarding the article, there was a debate over what low magic means. The issue seemed to revolve around confusing Low Magic with Low Fantasy. Middle-Earth, while being a High Fantasy setting, is, in terms of D&D, a Low Magic setting for the simple fact that there are no spellcasting classes. In this episode, Tony, Chris, and Dave discuss the preparations for the upcoming LOTR campaign; how magic will work, the lack of spellcasters as a class, the types of characters that we're thinking of developing, among many other topics. For anyone that is hoping to really approach magic differently in their home games, this is the episode for you.1:50 Our continuing discussion about our upcoming Lord of the Rings campaign and how we're approaching a setting with low access to magic.4:01 What are you going to do now? Trying to top your previous campaigns.7:15 DM Chris delves into his thoughts surrounding how to lessen access to magic as he began preparing and planning his Lord of the Rings campaign. 11:55 Middle-Earth as a world is highly magical, but how that plays at the table changes it significantly from all other D&D settings – Bilbo and the Dwarves didn't have a Boss Battle with Smaug.17:35 How much Meteor Swarm would change the Arthurian Tales.19:05 How rare magic will turn everything into significant encounters: healing, journeys, rests, etc.22:52 A rare Rock and Roll DM story about short rests and long rests.24:55 DM Chris explains the idea of the “Fellowship Phase” and “Shadow Points” in LOTR, like Call of Cthulhu Sanity points in Middle-Earth.32:05 What's the economy of Middle-Earth?37:50 How to build characters that will hook into the setting of Middle-Earth.40:30 Final Thoughts.

THE OREGON TRAIL has been called the world's longest graveyard. It's a 2,000-mile road that averages one buried body every 80 yards. Out of the 350,000 emigrants that traveled along it, one out of every 10 died along the way. There were lots of ways to kick the bucket on the Trail. Blood poisoning was a popular way to go — in those pre-antibiotic days, a minor scratch from a wagon fastener or prick from a thornbush could quickly go septic. And accidents — people getting run over by a wagon wheel, stepped on by an ox, or falling off the wagon and landing badly — were also common. So it's actually pretty ironic that the worst part of the whole trail was, in terms of body count, relatively benign compared with the rest. That hasn't prevented some great ghost stories from developing around it, though. I'm talking about the dreaded half mile of 60-degree slope on southwest side of Mount Hood known as Laurel Hill. (Near Rhododendron, Clackamas County; 1850s) (For text and pictures, see https://offbeatoregon.com/24-05.barlow-road-laurel-hill-647.html)
The game dudes delve into the study of boss battle etymology before getting misty-eyed as they rock […] The post Boss Battle Etymology/Abobo's Big Adventure appeared first on NYEH Entertainment.
While Final Fantasy was already a Japanese phenomenon, things here in the states were slower to gather steam. FF4 did well in stores, but nowhere near the numbers overseas. So, what to do with Final Fantasy 5? Release this complex, job heavy dungeon crawler to a market not ready for it or maybe soften the blow. Just a bit. That lighter game became Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest, a stripped down version of the Final Fantasy formula made accessible to everyone. By combining the bare bones of an RPG with the kinetic fun of platforming, this oft maligned game remains a fascinating artifact, if nothing else.
