In this episode I am talking to Lucy H Pearce, the author of the amazingly powerful book Burning Woman. I still feel my soul shimmer thinking back to this meaningful conversation!Burning Woman is a breath-taking and controversial woman's journey through history — personal and cultural — on a quest to find and free her own power. And so is this episode a wake-up call to the Burning Woman within you, a reminder. We live in burning times and they call for Burning Women. This is our time to come out of the shadows and burn brightly. The Soft Rebellion is my expression of Burning Woman and I hope that this conversation inspires and encourages you to bring your version of Burning Woman into your life too, uncover her voice and no longer let your fears take your power. Lucy H. Pearce is the author of multiple life-changing non-fiction books, including Nautilus Award silver winners Medicine Woman, Burning Woman, and Creatrix. Her newest books is Crow Moon: reclaiming the wisdom of the dark woods and The Kitchen Witch Companion, which she illustrated and co-authored with Sarah Robinson. Her writing focuses on women's healing through archetypal psychology, embodiment, historical awareness and creativity. An award-winning graduate in History of Ideas with English Literature from Kingston University, and a PGCE from Cambridge University, Lucy founded Womancraft Publishing, creating paradigm-shifting books by women for women, in 2014. She is the host of the Creative Magic podcast, where she interviews contemporary creative women. The mother of three children, she lives in East Cork, Ireland. In this conversation we explored:- How to connect with the source of creativity. We explored how the writing process looks for both of us and what we need to let the writing pour out of us. Lucy shared how writing feels like a journey through spaces which are portals for voices coming through her.- Why we must connect with our sensual body if we want to reclaim our feminine fire and Burning Woman. Before Burning Woman safes the world, she has to save herself, which means to recognise her subconscious desires so that the fire within becomes the fire without and a guiding light for the world! - How fear invites us to work with our energy wisely. Rather than denying or resisting it, we can transmute fear, meaning to express it and give a voice to what is ruling us and to what has never been expressed.- How by transmuting the energy of fear, we free the power within it. Fear, Lucy shared, is trapped energy turned against us and fear asks for inquiry, otherwise we back off and keep serving patriarchy. When five women in the Topeka Correctional Facility wrote to singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge describing their lives before and during their incarceration, they never imagined they'd be muses for her. The new two-part documentary, “Melissa Etheridge: I'm Not Broken” (now streaming on Paramount+) follows her journey from writing a new song inspired by those letters to performing it at a live concert at the prison. Melissa talks with me about how her performance inspired change at the Topeka facility, how her family's love held her together in the wake of her son Beckett's death, and how sometimes a deadline is the greatest form of artistic inspiration. It's been a while but I'm back! The first episode of 2024 is an amalgamation of many new experiences, a couple of new healing modalities I've been working with, and some deeper topics I haven't yet shared here. I talk about a psychedelic-assisted journey, the decision to address and experience deeper embodiment, and all about managing an eating disorder. I discuss why we need to reframe "triggers" in general, and how we need to throw the idea of discipline out the window. I explain how a mystical experience set the stage for meeting a a truer and more expanded self. I am excited to share this episode with you and hope you find some resonance. On the Secret Witch Show today our guest is Lucy Pearce. Lucy is the author of multiple life-changing non-fiction books, including Nautilus Award silver winners Medicine Woman, Burning Woman, and Creatrix. The mother of three children, she lives in East Cork, Ireland In this episode we explore how to reclaim the magic in our sensitivity - and in particular, neurodivergence. We dive into what “neurodivergence” is, and means, and what signs might help sensitive souls illuminate that they are neuro-diverse - as well as why and how women who resonate with this label must meet their sensitive needs, rather than try to mask and fit into a culture that doesn't suit them. Most importantly, we shared our important worldview on how neurodivergence can actually be a gift - and especially a super-power that allows magical women to be powerful healers, teachers and guides. What You'll Learn from this Episode: Highly sensitive women are often also ‘neurodivergent' - a word which is commonly understood by labels such as autism, ADHD or things like dyslexia or dyscalculia - and mean that we have different from ‘typical' brains Neurodivergence (ND) can show up in lots of different ways, but the main way it can present itself is having a sensitive nervous system that is over-primed - as well as feeling burned out, touched out and overwhelmed by our senses (we have a deep sensitivity to noise, scents, clothes on our skin, lights, electricity, and other things) The label of neurodivergence can be really helpful in aiding us to see that there's actually nothing wrong with us as a sensitive soul - and that we are just wired differently, and struggling to fit into a world that wasn't built for us; owning it this way can help us learn to navigate the world in an aligned way As sensitive women, and ND women, we must learn to honour and meet our own needs, so that we aren't constantly overwhelmed and our nervous systems don't reach meltdown. As we do meet our needs, we can reclaim the gifts in our sensitivity And there are many gifts - creativity, brilliant minds, the capacity to spot patterns, entrepreneurial skills, deep passion for things, high empathy and sensitivity to other worlds (in other words, all the ‘clairs' - e.g. clairvoyance), a capacity for lucid dreaming, a high importance for truthful expression, hyper-focus and a real affinity with nature It is common for these gifts to make sensitive souls excellent ‘healers' - as long as we can reclaim the gifts in our sensitivity. **PLEASE NOTE: Today's episode contains adult themes and occasional language some might find offensive** Today on the A Pinch of Magick podcast I'm joined by Lucy H Pearce, an author, artist, and founder of Womancraft Publishing. We start off talking about how Lucy first got into writing. It's a story that many of you might find familiar—a need to express, to connect, to make sense of the world. Lucy shares how writing became her way of doing just that, and how it evolved into something much bigger than she could ever have anticipated. Then we get into the heart of what happens when you suppress that creative urge. Lucy's been there, and she talks about the toll it takes. It's a bit like holding your breath; at some point, you've got to let it out. Sharing your most honest work can be terrifying. Lucy knows this all too well, and she shares how she learned to get more comfortable with it. It's about finding that balance between vulnerability and strength, and she's got some tips that could help you do just that. Lucy explains that each book she brings into the world is like stepping out of her comfort zone abit more. It's a challenge, but one that she leans into, and she tells us why. We also touch on something a bit heavier—the sense of danger Lucy has felt in her own body when tackling certain topics. It's a reminder that creating a safe space for yourself is crucial, especially when you're pushing your own boundaries. Now, why is the feminine so often linked with darkness, with things that are considered 'bad'? Lucy and I delve into this, breaking down some of the cultural narratives that have shaped these beliefs. She believes that one of the biggest gifts she can give the world is breaking that silence, giving voice to those things that have been silenced or kept in the shadows. What does success look like to you? Lucy urges us to define that for ourselves, to step away from what society tells us it should be. It's about stepping into your own truth, and she's got some thoughts on how you can do that. We discuss Lucy's latest book, The Kitchen Witch Companion, and how it's more than just a collection of recipes. Lucy describes it as a journey into reclaiming our power, our magick, and our true hunger and desires. She also explains what magick means to her. We wrap up with a discussion about evidence, the importance of 'noticing,' and why life is never really 'done.' It's a constant process of change and evolution, and Lucy's next book, Crow Moon, is a testament to that. By the end of our chat, you'll walk away with not just answers to some big questions, but also a toolkit for navigating your own path. So, are you ready to dive in? About Lucy H. Pearce Lucy H. She shares with us how her intuition has steered her course throughout her life and how her outlook on her life has changed since discovering she is neurodiverse. She talks to us about how her updated editions of her books are written now through the lens of neurodiversity. She calls out patriarchy and the messages that we have been forced to accept as women over centuries and calls us all forward to make shifts away from these dominant and oppressive narratives. We also talk about the powerful space of women's circles and finding safe and supportive pockets of the internet. Lucy beautifully shares with us how it is possible to find a balance that works for her and her neurodiversity while at the same time making powerful changes in the world. Snuggle in and listen to this wonderful conversation we had with magnificent Lucy H. Pearce! We talk about what is on her heart right now, the first book that Molly and Debra spoke... The post Spill the Tea: Lucy H. Pearce – A Divine Burning Woman appeared first on Debra Trappen.
My guest today is the brilliant Lucy H Pearce. Driven by a need to create, connect and inspire, Lucy is a best-selling author of many books, including Burning Woman, Creatrix, Medicine Woman, and She of the Sea. She is also a vibrant artist, respected publisher and editor and founder of Womancraft Publishing. Her work focuses on self-knowledge and healing through creativity, archetypes and cyclical living. She gives voice to the soul: the spiritual, the liminal, the darkness and discomfort and the magical in the midst of the mundane. Often described as raw, authentic and life-changing, her work encourages authentic paths to self-expression and is celebrated particularly by highly sensitive and neurodivergent women. In this episode we dived into how to engage with shadow to reclaim our power, including the power of harnessing archetypes, the importance of getting naked and returning to our truth, and how to integrate shadow in a loving way so that we can embrace our Witch Queen. What You'll Learn from this Episode: Well, this was my first guest who showed up naked, and I loved that so much as it was just the most beautiful embodiment of our conversation. This show was just filled with raw natural and beautiful naked truth - my top takeaways are: We grow up in a world where we create lessons - from our childhood experiences - that the safest way to be in life is to be the ‘good girl' - and yet magic is created in discovering we can actually choose consciously to be ourselves It's scary to show up naked, and there's a lot of shame and it feels like a genuine risk - but it's really the only way to live a life of Soul - to have our full, creative self-expression. The main thing to know is, we can choose into showing up as ourselves (or not) consciously - that's where the power is. At some point in life we are initiated into our power - quite often in pregnancy, which is deeply connected to our creativity - our womb is the creative cauldron of power We are taught to be scared of the dark in all ways, but it's actually a place where we transform and what can help us is becoming familiar with the sensations and going gently There's a real parallel between Witches and neurodivergent brains - and there's a gift in this - but witches get really good at masking it. Being able to mask and shapeshift means we are also really good at embodying archetypes so that we can embrace the fullness of the Witch and be our true selves The Witch Wound is a fear of being called a Witch, but by owning ourselves as a Witch we are reclaiming the power in it. Being a Witch is really a symbol of our Feminine power. Ruth Miller had a chaotic family upbringing, she was abused emotionally, and sexually, two close friends were murdered by her boyfriend, and despite this she did well at school and got a place at university. It wasn't until she met her now husband that she began to learn what safety in a relationship could feel like. And through the marriage she created with him, she was finally able to start working with the PTSD she had and begin to build the life she wanted. Giving birth to her daughter was one of the most challenging and empowering moments. A defining moment. And now at 32 years old, what will life bring next. I share friends with Ruth, and we both attended the Burning Woman 2021 Festival, where she really started to connect Mind, Body and Soul as part of her journey. Join me as we journey through a fascinating life with a very strong and resourceful woman. You can find Ruth on Facebook. My passion is Inspiring Women to Inspire Women. Connecting with Lucy was full of delicious tidbits about her new book, peeks into her writing process, and lots of laughter! She of the Sea is my favorite book of 2021 and maybe even 2020. I am really, really thrilled today to share this conversation with author, artist and publisher Lucy Pearce. Lucy's books, including Moods of Motherhood and Nautilus Award winners Medicine Woman, Burning Woman, and Creatrix: she who makes have shaped me, my work and my life in so many ways. One of the common threads in this interview is how Lucy endeavours to write about and give language to the things that so many of us feel we are experiencing in isolation, not realizing that so much of what we are going through is actually a collective experience – and that we are never alone. Lucy and I dive into the paradox of creativity in motherhood, how we can dismantle individualistic ways of approaching our healing, how we can lean into the cycles of nature to normalize the cycles in our lives, and the creative process as a rite of passage. We finish our conversation with Lucy sharing a little bit about her new book, She of The Sea, which is about the mysterious pull of the sea and of water that washes over so many of us as we're traversing changes in our lives. I had full-body chills as she described this book – a sure sign that I will have to have Lucy back on the show to tell us even more about She of The Sea. For now, though, I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. We weave through so many important and fascinating topics, and Lucy's wisdom shines throughout.
This week's show is with Lucy H. Pearce. Lucy is the author of nine life-changing non-fiction books, including Nautilus Award winners Medicine Woman and Burning Woman, and Creatrix: she who makes. Her writing focuses on women's healing through archetypal psychology, embodiment and creativity. She is currently working on her next book, She of the Sea. Her words have been featured internationally in online and print media and featured in Earth Pathways Diary, WeMoon, Divergent Mind and If Women Rose Rooted. Lucy is the founder of Womancraft Publishing, which publishes paradigm-shifting books by women for women. The mother of three children, she lives by the Celtic Sea in East Cork, Ireland. In this show, Lucy and Lian (both autistic women) spoke about neurodivergent women, the unique struggles we face in, how we're like the canary down the mine of a distorted culture that's actually not beneficial for anyone, and how people with neurodivergences have specific, necessary but currently little understood gifts for the world. I'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment below. What you'll learn from this episode: Neurodivergent women in particular struggle with a real lack of understanding and diagnosis and therefore we often also have trauma from years of struggling and being bullied that further complicates us discovering our neurodivergence It becomes possible to recognise that all of us are precious, necessary parts of the whole when we take the emphasis off valuing people purely on their "doing", and particularly the specific kinds of doing deemed worthwhile by our culture, and instead recognise the value of our being If what we spoke about resonated with you then two next steps that could be aligned for you are: Looking at resources, descriptions and tests that are specific to neurodivergent women Finding ways of honouring your needs to allow your nervous system to be relaxed and in flow Resources and stuff that we spoke about: lucyhpearce.com womancraftpublishing.com ATE on Difference as a superpower Lucy's blog post full of resources: I am a unicorn The study Lian mentioned on autism and DMT The Lost Girls Project Square Peg podcast Thank you for listening! In this show we spoke about how ancient Feminine archetypes can help us navigate this time of change and rupture as our known reality is breaking down. Those of us who have been through our own personal breakdowns and have already felt the call to embody these archetypes feel that we have an important part to play in expressing these archetypes in our own unique way. This episode illuminates the path that some us are already treading and how we can hold ourselves through this intense experience.
In this episode, I discuss the amazingly powerful work Burning Woman, written by Lucy H Pearce. I discuss a couple of chapters in the beginning and at the end, leaving space to read the work yourself and gather your own thoughts and ideas. I think this book will trigger a lot in every woman reading it, which is what it did to me and why I wanted to discuss it on the podcast. Lucy lays bare the painful his-/her-story of women's relationship with fire. The continuous collective threat and fear is deeply rooted in our nervous system. Fear of what? The fear of being labeled a bad girl. Bad girls get burned. Literally and metaphorically. This is why as women collectively we are kept small, and we keep ourselves small. Think about the word ‘heresy' as an example. Her-e-say. Her Say. RIGHT?! This book discusses the sisterhood wound, about taking up space, and mainly about reclaiming our inner burning woman. The woman who listens to her burning passions. Who knows that in the past (at least in the Western world) she would have gotten burned for her power and her beliefs but now she can reclaim her power and burn brightly from within. I'd love to know your thoughts on this episode, what triggered you and what resonated (or both!) and if you'd like to pick up this book yourself now too. I also wrote an article on this archetype and book for Roots & Wings Magazine. Check out their website to order your copy of the first edition, which features my article alongside other incredible texts by inspiring women (including Lucy H. Pearce herself!). ~ Don't forget to subscribe! ~ Visit the Spiritual Fem website & join the community on Instagram ~ and let me know what you thought of this episode!
