In today's episode, we're diving into major news from Latin America and the U.S. Puerto Rico and El Salvador are making headlines with political and economic shifts that could signal broader changes for the region. First, El Salvador's bold move to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender seems to be paying off in a big way, with nearly $93 million in unrealized profits. President Nayib Bukele's Bitcoin strategy, which includes geothermal Bitcoin mining and ambitious projects like "Bitcoin City," is redefining El Salvador's economic landscape. With a debt-free 2025 budget on the horizon, Bukele is showing critics that his unconventional financial approach might just be working. On the political front, Puerto Rico's pro-statehood candidate Jenniffer González-Colón, a prominent Trump ally, won the governor's race, becoming the first Republican to hold the office since 2008. With Puerto Rico's recent election results, we're seeing a shift in voter priorities, as pro-statehood and independence parties gain ground over traditional territorial status advocates. We'll also be analyzing Latino voter turnout in the recent U.S. elections and the significant message it sends about the issues they care about most. Join us as we unpack these major developments and explore what they mean for Puerto Rico, El Salvador, and the broader Latin American community. Tune in to hear more about: - El Salvador's $93 million Bitcoin profit and future outlook - President Bukele's debt-free 2025 budget and the potential impact on the nation's economy - Puerto Rico's gubernatorial shift toward statehood and its impact on U.S. relations - How Latino voters have shaped the latest election resultsFollow us on IG: @latinwealth Email for questions or inquiries: latinwealthpodcast@gmail.com

Welcome to a new weekly series we are launching on the Latin Wealth platform, Wealth Wednesday! On Wealth Wednesday, we will be discussing trending news, Latino culture and topics surrounding business, host by @chrisbelloso and @ricoramirez86. Today, we're exploring two major topics that could have far-reaching consequences: the revival of El Salvador's ambitious Bitcoin City project and the rising investor confidence in a potential soft landing for the global economy as expectations of Fed rate cuts increase. El Salvador's $1.6 Billion Investment in Bitcoin City: El Salvador is making headlines once again with President Nayib Bukele's recent announcement of a groundbreaking $1.6 billion investment—the largest private investment in the nation's history. This investment, led by Turkish company Yilport Holdings, is set to upgrade two critical ports, including one located in the proposed Bitcoin City. Launched in 2021, Bitcoin City is one of Bukele's most ambitious projects, envisioned as a hub that would operate entirely on Bitcoin and be exempt from most taxes, except for value-added tax (VAT). The investment will unfold in multiple phases, beginning with modernizing Acajutla's infrastructure and acquiring new equipment. The second phase will focus on expanding the port's capacity, tripling its potential to handle more trade. Meanwhile, at La Unión, a port that has remained unused for nearly two decades, the initial work will involve excavation and the acquisition of new equipment, including cranes. This development is crucial for enabling larger, heavier ships to dock, potentially boosting El Salvador's trade capacity and positioning the country as a key player in regional commerce. We'll break down what this means for El Salvador's economy, how it could affect neighboring countries, and whether it might spark competition with Panama, which has long been a dominant force in Central American trade. We'll also touch on the role of geothermal energy, particularly how El Salvador plans to leverage its volcanic resources to power Bitcoin mining, further solidifying the country's commitment to cryptocurrency. Global Economy and Fed Rate Cuts: Shifting gears, we explore the current state of the global economy, where investor sentiment is increasingly optimistic about a "soft landing"—a scenario where inflation subsides without significant deterioration in economic activity, even amid higher interest rates. Recent surveys show that 76% of investors believe a soft landing is the most likely outcome over the next 12 months, the highest level of confidence since May 2023. With the Federal Reserve's rate cut decisions looming, we'll discuss how these expectations are shaping markets and what it means for everyday consumers. Lower interest rates typically lead to reduced borrowing costs, affecting everything from mortgage rates to auto loans, making it cheaper for consumers to finance purchases. However, this also raises questions about whether aggressive rate cuts could reignite inflation or affect the cost of living and wages. We'll dive deep into the potential impacts of these developments, discussing high home prices, job growth, and the implications of an economic slowdown or resurgence. Finally, we'll consider how these economic shifts could influence global markets, with a particular focus on Latin America and its interconnectedness with the U.S. and other global economies.
This is the story of the rise of Berlin, El Salvador. This is also the story of the hard-working people behind the scenes. Gerardo and Evelyn started promoting the bitcoin standard in Berlin, ES and found that the townspeople were receptive to their efforts.Mike Peterson learns that Berlin has very moderate climate, as it's altitude is approximately 1000 meters, which means no air conditioning and no heat required. It's a great alternative to living close to the beach where the temperature can be quite high.Gerardo and Evelyn tell Mike Peterson that things have moved quickly in Berlin - on-boarding businesses, social programs, paint programs etc. "There was a lot of energy there, because they are not happy with the local government. They were not happy with the situation when it comes to tourism... They were like 'We need to do something... we need to do something ourselves, why wait for the government, why wait for somebody else to come and do something here? Let's do it ourselves" - GerardoNow, there are many Bitcoiners in Berlin. The circular economy community is growing quickly.@Evelynlemus2906@GR_Linares1@BitcoinBerlinSVLive From Bitcoin Beach

Vilka drivkrafter ligger bakom? Show highlights: Nelson's story and how he began covering BTC what kind of politician and president Nayib Bukele was before BTC what the financial reality was for Salvadoran people before the implementation of BTC the reasons for the high rates of unbanked people in El Salvador how Bukele changed the monetary policy with what Rauda says was very little discussion why Rauda believes the BTC law is not meant for Salvadorans, but instead is a PR stunt how people reacted after the announcement of BTC as legal tender, and how it resembled the dollarization of the economy in 2001 how Nelson did not even understand BTC at the moment of the announcement and how he says there was not an effort from the government to educate the population whether BTC was successful in attracting investments and tourism, and how there's no hard data about it why Nelson believes Bukele was trying to hide the scandals when he adopted BTC whether BTC has been used as a PR stunt why bitcoiners are enthusiastic about an authoritarian government adopting BTC as legal tender how Bukele might be undermining his own authority by adopting BTC, a type of money that is not controlled by a state whether the Chivo wallet is a surveillance tool why Nelson believes BTC does not represent a solution for the needs of average Salvadoran people whether the $30 dollar initial gift to download the BTC wallet was seen as just another subsidy the status of Bitcoin City and how Nelson believes it represents the most spectacular PR stunt from Bukele's administration how the expensive prices of electricity in El Salvador make the country not the best place for mining the significance of Bitcoin Beach what the BTC bond is, what Bukele tried to achieve with it, and why it has been postponed whether El Salvador will default on its debt and what the impact of the BTC price has on the national finances and on how Salvadorans perceive Bitcoin how Nelson believes people in El Salvador do not have political freedom and how it contradicts the narrative of financial freedom that BTC aims to provide what Nelson thinks about Bitcoin and whether governments should adopt it as legal tender Thank you to our sponsors!
From the recent launch of Bitcoin-based exchange-traded funds in the U.S. to El Salvador's plan to raise US$1 billion through BTC bonds to fund its “Bitcoin City” property development, growing mainstream adoption of the world's original cryptocurrency is demanding increased scalability. Adam Back, a Bitcoin development veteran and CEO of blockchain technology company Blockstream, which is working in partnership with El Salvador's government on its Bitcoin-backed bond plan. says the solution lies in layer-2 networks. Layer-2 is a secondary protocol built on top of a blockchain such as the Bitcoin network or Ethereum. Mirroring the protocol evolution of the internet, layer-2 technology such as Bitcoin's Lightning and Liquid networks tackle scalability issues by moving processes off the main chain.“While it's difficult for (all) potential users of Bitcoin to directly hold it on-chain, there are different use cases that can use it in different ways,” Back told Forkast.News in a video interview. “[Layer-2] provides a different kind of section of transactional capacity-optimized for use cases.”“You can onboard more users and there's less data hitting the main chain ... it has some trade-offs, but it provides similar kinds of assurances to the main Bitcoin chain.” Back said, “It's difficult to have a single protocol that's optimal for everything.”Taproot — the last major upgrade of the Bitcoin network, which went live last November — came four years after the SegWit soft fork, the only other big change to the network, implemented in 2017. Given the slow and irregular pace of upgrades, most Bitcoin network innovations take place on layer-2.“If you look at the internet and the base layer of the internet being TCP/IP … the TCP/IP protocol essentially hasn't changed in decades, yet there's an enormous amount of innovation on the internet. But it's happening in the layer above, or in the application layer,” Back said. “And that's considered, in engineering terms, a good way to do it, because you want the best technology to be robust.”Watch Back's full interview with Forkast.News Editor-in-Chief Angie Lau to learn more about layer-2 solutions, the “block war” between layer-2 providers, the Bitcoin Taproot upgrade and BTC's mainstream adoption.
As we begin the new year of 2022, The Friendly Bear takes a flight out to visit San Salvador, El Salvador for the final week of 2021 to see first hand what is going on with the fuss about Bitcoin. On September 7, 2021 El Salvador became the first country in the world to recognize Bitcoin as legal tender. Soon after, President Nayib Bukele mandated that all business accept Bitcoin as payment through the government Bitcoin app, Chivo Wallet, which included a $30 deposit from the government of El Salvador to encourage usage. In this podcast David also goes over the President's plans to create a Bitcoin city tax haven along the edge of an active volcano among other Bitcoin related experiences he had while in El Salvador. First, we start off with a discussion about the strategic petroleum reserves and Biden's decision to release 50 million barrels of oil from the reserves. This leads to some interesting facts about both the strategic petroleum reserves and oil itself. Then Luc and Nate make a bet about whether the price of a gallon of regular gas will be worth more or less than $3.398 on January 15th. Then we move onto El Salvador's Bitcoin Bond and plan to build Bitcoin City. Then we discuss our Thanksgiving Plans and we discuss how Luc is Native and Nate is really white. (Can you tell this episode is being uploaded really late? Haha. My bad. -Nate) This leads to a discussion about how to address infrastructure needs on Native American reservations. We finish up talking about how the next decade will change the world and what it would like if we were a technocratic society. Location: Miami Date: Wednesday 1st December Organization: City of Miami Role: Mayor of Miami It is a common refrain that politics is in crisis. Polarization is producing deadlock. Election cycles mean big decisions are kicked down the road. A lack of term limits in congress results in a generation of out of touch leaders. But there is hope. A new cohort of energised and informed political leaders willing to tackle systemic issues are coming to the fore. Emblematic of this shift is the Mayor for the City of Miami Francis X. Suarez. Galvanised by dealing with the impact of the 2007 financial crisis on municipal government, Mayor Suarez recognized that executive power means creating the conditions for prosperity: sound fiscal discipline, attractive tax codes, and a government that supports entrepreneurship. Mayor Suarez also knows that leadership is key in an uncertain and changing world. He understands how Bitcoin is leading a change to resolve broken human systems through code. Providing a vision of a Bitcoin led future aims to give Miami's citizens a new sense of economic hope and trust, both for themselves and the generations to follow. In this interview, I talk with Mayor Francis Suarez about leading the City of Miami. We discuss the political system, the role of a Mayor, and running a successful city. Further we talk about how Bitcoin re-energises capitalist systems, the benefits of Bitcoin mining, and MiamiCoin.
