State Representative Charlene Lima expands on the below press release: Today, until my microphone was turned off, I was asking the Speaker on the floor of the House if he did not announce the reappointment of Rep Jay Edwards as House Floor Manager because as a member of his leadership team Rep Edwards walked door to door in Representative Ed Cardillo’s district with his daughter against an incumbent democratic Representative, Ed Cardillo also a supporter of the Speaker. A supposed no-no for a member of leadership. I was asking the Speaker because two years ago my Title, office and parking space was taken from me because I was active in finding an opponent for another Democratic Representative. As a member of leadership, the Speaker told me I should not have done this and had to have my leadership position taken away. Hopefully, the same standard the Speaker applied to me, a female member of leadership, will be applied to a male member of leadership as well. Rep Edwards physically walked door to door in Democratic Representative Cardillo’s District with his daughter. Something I never did to any incumbent Democrat two years ago. I publicly call on the Speaker to not reappoint Rep Edwards to any leadership position nor to create a “new one” to hide the blatant inequality of treating a male member of leadership different than a female member. He also must take Rep Edwards office away as well as his parking space. I am not the only Representative to have complaints about Rep Edwards questionable House floor conduct as leader. Speaker Shekarchi always strives to wield the gavel fairly and hopefully he will continue to do so. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, we discuss the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act that recently passed the US House of Representatives with only ONE vote from a Democrat. If made law (which is highly unlikely), this would require that all medical personnel involved in a botched abortion procedure that resulted in a live birth of the baby provide immediate life-saving care to the child. In the debate over this bill, a Democratic Representative made the claim that she was a “Pro-Choice Christian.” Is it even possible for a Christian to be Pro-Abortion? Gov. Ron DeSantis says schools should not be telling kids when to make up their minds about sexual orientation. A gay Democratic Representative says bills to restrict talk about sexual orientation could eliminate school discussion about the Pulse nightclub tragedy. Also on today's Sunrise: — DeSantis says the Joe Biden administration's immigration policies are historically bad. — Florida Democrats say they dropped the ball on voter registration. — The AARP says proposed changes in nursing home rules are unnecessary and dangerous. — And, finally settling a bet over the last presidential election — sort of.
According to Ilhan Omar, the Democratic Representative for Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, it is!? She's trying to pass a bill to combat ‘Islamophobia', but it is really a Trojan Horse, opening America to Jihad. So far, it has passed in the House over objections that it will disempower counterterrorism efforts. The key to understanding Ilhan Omar's agenda is herspeech at CAIR (the Council on American-Islamic Relations), claiming, “CAIR was founded after 9/11, because they recognized that ‘some people did something' and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.” 'Some people did something'?! Radical Islamists attacked America and killed over 3,000 of us! Her bill, called the Combating International Islamophobia Act, calls upon President Biden to appoint a “special envoy” to fight “Islamophobia.” It would record violence against and harassment of Muslims and vandalism of their mosques, schools and cemeteries worldwide. This would be understandable if there were similar calls to protect Christians, Jews, Hindus and others. The bill also targets so-called propaganda from media, which could be used to condemnreports on jihad activity and analysis of motives behind terrorism. While Ilhan Omar is passing bills that put America in danger, the Palestinian Authority is brainwashing fourth-grade girls to hate Israel. and teaching them it's their Islamic duty to work towards the destruction of Israel. According to Ilhan's bill, simply the reporting of this could be considered Islamophobic.Words like “Islamophobia” and “terrorism” and "domestic terrorism” are being used loosely these days - from school shooters to PTA parents. As an example, we look at an Instacart driver who drove over an elderly couple's groceriesbecause they had a yard sign thanking the police, and question whether the driver could even be called a lone wolf. President Biden, intent upon labeling people who disagree with himpolitically, may even start labeling 'the unvaccinated' as ‘domestic terrorists'.

Tish has a new obsession with circles and Brandi is renaming today’s advice segment “Dear BC” because she has all the info when it comes to sibling rivalry. The co-hosts decide they need to start growing some green on their farm but if it’s called Cyrus Family Flower, as it should be, Tish insists the whole family has to be involved. (Brandi doesn’t have time for this plan, but agrees to do the social media promo.) Tish shares her feels on seeing her daughter’s thirst traps all over the internet and the two briefly touch on Tish’s menopause and mid-life crisis, but decide it’s way too much drama that needs its own episode entirely. We are then joined by Tish’s childhood friend, the Democratic Representative for the 100th district of Kentucky in the Kentucky State House of Representatives, Terri Branham, who touches on the opioid crisis, the battle for legalized medicinal marijuana, and why politicians need to remember that their true work is public service. Thanks for joining us for today’s episode! As always, don’t forget to rate, review, subscribe, and share with a friend.

This week Stew speaks with three guests who are all advocates of paid family leave: Ellen Bravo, Washington State Republican Senator Joe Fain, and Hawaii Democratic State Representative Kaniela Ing. Ellen Bravo is a founding director of Family Values @ Work, a network of coalitions in 27 states working for policies such as paid sick days and family and medical leave insurance. Before that, Ellen was director of 9to5, an organization improving working conditions and ensuring the rights of women. She has written several non-fiction books, including Taking on the Big Boys, or Why Feminism is Good for Families, Business and the Nation. Ellen served on the bipartisan Commission on Leave appointed by Congress to study the impact of the Family and Medical Leave Act. Among her commendations are a Ford Foundation Visionary award and, like Stew, she’s been honored with the Families and Work Institute Work-Life Legacy Award. Republican Senator Joe Fain of Washington State has an MBA and an undergraduate degree in Political Science. He’s been in the Senate since 2010 and has been both the Minority and Majority floor leader. Joe was the prime sponsor of the landmark legislation to create a statewide paid family and medical leave program by convening a bipartisan group of lawmakers and business and labor leaders. Representative Kaniela Ing, Democratic Representative from Hawaii has been fighting for working families he was a child in one. He’s been serving in the state legislature since he was 23 and he’s now running for Congress. The birth of his first child has brought the particular issue of paid family leave to the fore for him. Stew and Ellen discuss the accelerating pace of states enacting paid family leave laws and other legislative victories as well as Ky Dickens’ great new film, Zero Weeks, which is winning all sorts of awards. The film features six subjects with zero weeks of paid leave who need that support to care for themselves or loved ones with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, to care for their parents, as well as to care for their new children. It is a powerful warning about the cost of doing nothing to help us become a nation that truly cares for working families. Ellen encourages everyone to visit the Family Values @ Work site to learn about what is going on in their state and local area and find ways to get involved and make their voices heard. They discuss how this is no longer a “women’s issue” as millennial dad’s are demanding to be involved at home. And it’s not simply a parental leave issue, as single people also need leave for themselves and to care for loved ones and as empty nesters, a growing portion of the population, are caring for aging parents and others. Paid family leave affects everyone. Stew and Ellen also talk about how this policy helps small business owners compete with larger corporations and how it is affordably funded. Senator Fain and Representative Ing share their compelling stories of becoming dads for the first time and the ways in which they’ve worked across the political aisle to build coalitions of support for a policy that affects everyone, benefits everyone, is good for business, and is not costly.
