On this episode, we are joined by Susan Heinrich from Midlife Globetrotter. Susan is a Canadian writer living in Denver, Colorado. She is passionate about travel and supporting women in tourism. In 2020, she created Midlife Globetrotter, a website and platform that helps women over 40 follow their travel dreams to new places, with destination guides, practical tips and stories of her own adventures. Susan is passionate about reframing midlife as an opportunity, and explores themes of reinvention and self-discovery in her work. You can follow Susan on Instagramand Pinterest. In this episode, we talk about group tours and group tour operators, especially those that offer group trips just for women. To learn more, see Susan's blog posts about: Women's tours around the world: https://midlifeglobetrotter.com/womens-tours/ How to select a small group tour: https://midlifeglobetrotter.com/how-to-select-a-small-group-tour/ Croatia group tour with Adventure Women: https://midlifeglobetrotter.com/a-womens-sailing-trip-in-croatia/ Episode Highlights Some things to think about when choosing a group tour include: What is the pacing of the trip -- is there any free time, how often do you switch hotels? What is the group size? Small group tends to be under 14 people. Small groups have advantages in terms of the type of accommodation and the size of the tour group when exploring cities What is the activity level? Some companies like Adventure Women and Adventures in Good Company specialize in active trips and offer detailed explanations of the activity level involved in the trip If you are traveling solo, you can also look for tours that are only solo travelers When you are evaluating a group tour, be sure to read the itinerary in detail. You can also call the tour operator and see if they can give you any information on how many solo travelers there might be versus those traveling with a friend or relative. Also look at what the single supplement is. Some companies like Girls Guide to the World have private rooms by default but typically group tours are priced based on double occupancy and if you want your own room they charge a single supplement. Some companies will pair you with another solo travel as a roommate if they don't charge a single supplement. Be sure to read through the documents to understand what is included in terms of transfers and meals Understand who is guiding the trip -- is it a local or a U.S.-based guide Make sure you understand the cancellation policy and buy travel insurance If you aren't sure if a group trip is for you, opt for a private room, start with a shorter trip, feel free to opt out of activities, and maybe start with a trip in the U.S. that doesn't require a more expensive airfare. If you just want to relax or if you don't like having scheduled activities, then a group tour may not be a good fit Good tour operators for budget travelers include G Adventures (now have tours for women and certain age groups) and Intrepid Travel (who have women expeditions to places where you can meet and interact with locals in a way that you couldn't if there were men on the trip) For a luxury trip, Girls Guide to the World is a good fit and Insight Vacations is upscale and have women-only trips For nature and wildlife, Natural Habitat Adventures partner with the World Wildlife Federation and are known for wildlife trips and have women's only expeditions Adventure Women is one of the first companies to get into women only tours and typically offer four-star accommodations with active adventures Backroads is known for cycling and hiking tours and offers some just for women and they have trips that accommodate a variety of activity levels each day There are also group tour operators focused on certain destinations like Viking Women in Iceland Another themed tour is the British Book Club Tour: https://thebookclubtour.com Susan is also co-hosting an art-history based trip to Paris this spring Some women-only focused travel companies and others that have women-only trips Next Chapter Travel - small group, curated trips in Europe Next Tribe - over 45 women Gals Abroad Getaways - luxury Untethered Expeditions - adventure Adventure Women - small group adventure Adventures in Good Company - active Girls' Guide to the World - authentic, responsible (luxury) Sisterhood Travels - over 50 Country Walkers - walking/hiking Scout Escapes - mother daughter travel and group trips for women over 40 Viking Women - Iceland Explorer Chick - hiking and adventure in National Parks and abroad Insight Vacations - upscale group trips some women only Backroads - women only hiking and cycling Road Scholar - educational, some women only, over 50 Uniworld - women's cruises
The great wealth transfer, totaling $124 trillion, will occur by 2048, shifting wealth from Baby Boomers to their heirs. A report from the Bank of America Institute estimates nearly $100 trillion of this transfer will benefit women, with approximately $47 trillion going to younger women through inheritance and $54 trillion to surviving spouses, mostly women. By 2030, women in the U.S. are expected to manage about two-thirds of private wealth. The demographic of women aged 50 to 70 is projected to grow significantly by 2050, leading to increased wealth and independence for this group. This wealth transition will likely elevate demand for women's products and services, as women have outspent men on discretionary and essential items in the past year. Women also comprise a majority of solo travelers, prompting adaptations in travel offerings, such as the introduction of an all-female cruise route by Uniworld for August 2025.Learn more on this news visit us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast. Send us a textHello, passionate cruisers! This is Paul. I am delighted to welcome back this week on The Joy of Cruising Podcast, Heidi Sarna and Ted Scull's Quirky Cruise, which was featured in my second cruise book, Cruising Interrupted in a section called “Specialty Cruising: Fun and Quirky.” When I first interviewed Heidi and Ted I knew very little about small shipcruising, that is, a small ship designed to hold 300 or fewer passengers; some low double digits, even single digits! These small ships can range from spartan to ultra-luxury, and because of their size and design can access destinations that mainstream cruise ships cannot. Quirky Cruise is an online magazine that focuses exclusively on the important and growing sector of the cruise industry. Quirky Cruise's slogan is “Travel without the crowds.” Quirky Cruise is the source for reviews, news, and round-ups about unusual and small-ship cruises under 300 passengers, from river boats to canal barges, sailing ships, coastal cruisers, and expedition vessels. Heidi Sarna and Ted Scull created Quirky Cruise because they love small-ship cruising and want to share what they know and have experienced with others who also like traveling on small, intimate vessels. Here is Heidi's previous appearance on The Joy of Cruising Podcast Ep 4 It is a pleasure to have Heidi back to talk about two very quirky cruises—from opposite sides of the world, one in driving distance from me here in North Carolina. Before I bring Heidi on, let me say Heidi has been involved in several ‘firsts' in my cruise career. BUTLER SERVICE The Butlers deliver exemplary around-the-clock service. Including packing and unpacking your luggage, room service and more! . MORE SPACE The suites feature more room to roam, often with living areas, spacious bedrooms and large bathrooms. . The ship's guests and team were all smiles throughout the ceremony, warmed by their complimentary Seabourn expedition-grade parkas while toasting Seabourn Venture.Though Seabourn Venture launched on July 27, 2022, in Tromsø, Norway, Seabourn chose Antarctica for the naming ceremony as the southernmost continent represents everything for which the ship is intended. Our guest today is Ellen Bettridge, President and Global CEO of Uniworld River Cruises. Uniworld has 1200 employees and 21 ships and counting - and it's also the first cruise line to be featured on our show. But In my opinion, sailing with Uniworld is more like being in a floating boutique hotel than being on a cruise line. While the average ocean cruise takes 5,000 passengers - Uniworld ships clock in at about 120! After you unpack and relax into one of the finest made beds in the world, you can watch the world by by from the top deck with a drink in hand, have a chef prepared dinner of locally sourced food and plan for the next day. Depending on where you're sailing your choices will range from hiking and biking, to private history or museum tours, to wine tasting with a wine maker and more. Ellen herself is a truly involved leader - though she's held top exec positions across the cruise industry, she told me off air that she still keeps letters from guests in her desk and sails with repeat customers every year. We discuss everything from the private art collection on board each ship, to new destinations, to the lemon chicken recipe that is Ellen's favorite. If you've ever been curious about river cruising - you'll love hearing all this detail. Thank you to our sponsor for this episode, Covac Global. MediaVillage's Insider InSites podcast on Media, Marketing and Advertising
The conversation around name, image and likeness (NIL) has been going on throughout the 21st Century. The NCAA reached a point in 2021 where student athletes across the country became allowed to monetize off NIL and since then it's taken over the division-1 college sports landscape. Today, top talent such as University of Alabama quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young is making millions of dollars thanks to endorsement deals, but it is a lot to be able to manage while also being a student athlete. UCLA redshirt-junior quarterback Chase Griffin is a student athlete executive in residence with UniWorld Group. Chase has credited UWG with helping set him up for his future as he is learning more about the media agency business and preparing for a career post-football. Chase sat down with Justin Paura on the View From The Grandstand podcast to discuss how and why he decided to team up with UWG and explain what NIL has done for him and will do for other student athletes like him. Be sure to watch or listen to View From The Grandstand on MediaVillage.com or wherever you get your podcasts. The full interview will also air during MediaVillage's Advancing Diversity Week stream, from October 17-20 on MediaVillage.com.

In this episode, Jeannette talks to James Cole who is a travel industry veteran and the founder and owner of Panache Cruises. They discuss how he was able to establish a successful cruise business just as the pandemic started and still grow it despite the fact there were no cruises for his team to sell. How he and his team used the pandemic to lay the foundations of the success they are experiencing today. KEY TAKEAWAYS Niching down in an industry that James knows well has helped his businesses to thrive. Genuinely, being there for your customers builds strong relationships with them and creates loyalty. Panache Cruises are bringing back old-fashioned one-on-one, in-person, customer service. Being there to answer questions and share information during the pandemic meant people came back to them when it was possible to book cruises. Planning long-term is healthy for a business. Looking after yourself physically and mentally is key to success. You must believe in yourself, keep going and have good people around you. Appreciate and celebrate success including the smaller ones, for example, when a new recruit secures their first booking. BEST MOMENTS ‘It started as a spreadsheet that looked at what the cash flow would be like. ´ ‘Our strapline is that nothing is too much trouble, and we genuinely live by that philosophy.' ‘There's a cruise out there for everyone.' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. In his early career he helped set up The Cruise Store for MyTravel, a dedicated cruise retailer, which grew to £120m in sales in 3 years and, following the coming together of MyTravel and Thomas Cook in 2007, he then merged their two cruise businesses into a £300m entity which at the time was the UK's largest cruise retailer. Since then James has been the driving force behind many of the UK's largest cruise brands, including Cruise118, Six Star Cruises and River Voyages. During his highly entrepreneurial career, he has retailed over £1bn of cruise holidays. James launched Panache Cruises in July 2020 at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, using the period of lockdown to develop his business plans and establish the business. Initially employing a team of 15 in the North West, the business promises to offer an unrivalled level of personal service to those wishing to cruise in luxury, offering customers a 24/7 ‘nothing is too much trouble service.' The company's inventory of cruises offers over 7,000 itineraries, visiting over 1,000 ports of call with 20 of the world's leading luxury cruise lines that specialise in Elite Ocean, River, Expedition, and Yacht-style cruising, including Regent Seven Seas, Oceania, Silversea, Seabourn, Crystal, Azamara, Celebrity, Scenic, Emerald, Uniworld, Hurtigruten, Aurora Expeditions, Riviera, Avalon and SeaDream Yacht Club. The business has also delivered a highly impressive performance during this time, generating £10 million in sales – against a backdrop of a global pandemic. The company posted a turnover of £5m in its first full year of operation and is already making a monthly EBITDA profit. It is currently on target to make an overall profit in its second full year of trading. Panache Cruises is seeking to employ a team of 100, be the largest seller of luxury and ultra-luxury cruises in the UK and achieve a turnover of £60m+ and EBITDA of £3m+ by 2027. This prompted a desire to work with a team of trusted family, associates and friends to find a transformative idea that uses music to help patients and caregivers through a cancer journey. That was the beginning of Music Land Gift Foundation. They have begun supplying headphones, iPads and music stations to help patients experience the healing power of music while in treatment AND they have a web app so that you can create videos, messages and playlists to send to friends and family going through treatment or recovering. Our guest today is Ellen Bettridge, President and Global CEO of Uniworld River Cruises. Uniworld has 1200 employees and 21 ships and counting - and it’s also the first cruise line to be featured on our show. Depending on where you’re sailing your choices will range from hiking and biking, to private history or museum tours, to wine tasting with a wine maker and more. Ellen herself is a truly involved leader - though she’s held top exec positions across the cruise industry, she told me off air that she still keeps letters from guests in her desk and sails with repeat customers every year. We discuss everything from the private art collection on board each ship, to new destinations, to the lemon chicken recipe that is Ellen’s favorite. If you’ve ever been curious about river cruising - you’ll love hearing all this detail. See photos, show notes, and listener perks HERE. Connect with me on Social: Instagram LinkedIn

Jeff Friday, the CEO of American Black Film Festival Ventures, a multifaceted company specializing in the production of live events, television and films focused on African American culture shares why he discovered ABFF. It’s an unsettling time right now. We are in the midst of something we haven’t experienced in our lifetime before – a global pandemic. I’m anxious and struggling to be creative. Here is how I’m trying to stay focused and create: Create a schedule (set an alarm has been the hardest!) Take breaks (you may not have friends around, but doesn’t mean you can’t talk to yourself!) Work out (so important! Go outside and take a walk, if you are allowed, but remember social distancing!) Eat healthy (stop snacking!) Self-Care (now is the time to take those bubble baths and focus on yourself) I share stories of creatives who are finding their groove during quarantine such as DJ DNice and Dana Jay Bein with this humorous Coronovirus Rhapsody. Also, I’m asking if you cannot purchase your cup of coffee this morning due to the quarantine, would you donate it to help purchase new podcasting equipment? www.ko-fi.com/funnybrowngirl Who is Jeff Friday? Jeff Friday is one of the most innovative entrepreneurs in the film and television industry today. A successful producer, festival founder, film financier, champion of diversity and mentor to many, Friday has established a unique legacy in Hollywood, generating a tremendous amount of goodwill within the creative and corporate communities. Twenty-three years ago, following his first trip to Sundance Film Festival, an inspired Friday took a blind leap of faith. Departing from his lucrative job as president of the prominent multicultural advertising agency UniWorld, Friday devoted his professional life to the American Black Film Festival (ABFF). Recognized today as the leading film festival of its kind, ABFF remains the premiere platform that introduces filmmakers of color to the industry at large and has created opportunities for people of color outside of Hollywood’s doors by helping them find their inroad. Having curated hundreds of hours of content, Friday developed an acute skill for identifying promising new talent. His work put a spotlight on many of today’s successful new artists, introducing them to the industry when they were unknowns. That spotlight showcased the early work of many of today’s most talented and recognizable artists, content creators, and stand-up comedians. Friday is a successful producer of several live events, including the Pro-Hollywood BootCamp in partnership with the National Football League. He has financed numerous independent films; created & executive produced television specials – Black Movie Awards (TNT), ABFF Honors (BET) and series – ABFF Independent and Icons, Idols & Influencers (ASPIRE); and recently produced feature documentary Storm over Brooklyn for HBO in partnership with Emmy and Oscar winning production company Lightbox. Jeff Friday currently serves as CEO of ABFF Ventures LLC (ABFFV), a multifaceted company specializing in the production of live events, television and films focused on African American culture. Key Questions answered by Jeff Friday: When did your creative journey begin? Why did you create the American Black Film Festival? How did you grow and sustain the festival over 24 years? Why should creatives attend ABFF/Festivals? How do you manage your time and prioritize ventures? What advice do you have for creatives on their journey? What’s the best piece of advice you have received? What is your definition of success? Who inspires you? What’s a habit that’s helped you on your journey? What do you want your legacy to be? Jeff Friday Discusses: American Black Film Festival How his childhood molded the idea and creation of ABFF The need to be an active member of a community Networking Collaboration and Community Managing time Being true to yourself and your goals Key Takeaways from Jeff Friday: Be steadfast in your mission Find a community and become an active member of giving and receiving Collaborate with the community Have a focused plan, a sense of reality, and self-check yourself Authenticity is important Listen on Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, Stitcher and Google Play Click here to subscribe via RSS feed (non-iTunes feed): https://funnybrowngirl.libsyn.com/rss Announcements If you’re looking for a community of supportive creative entrepreneurs to elevate your journey to the next level, join me here: https://funnybrowngirl.com/facebook Subscribe to my newsletter of creative resources, including opportunities and fellowships at https://funnybrowngirl.com/subscribe Social Media Info Connect Online: Jeff Friday – www.abffventures.com Shereen Kassam – www.funnybrowngirl.com Twitter: Jeff Friday - @jefffriday Shereen Kassam - @funnybrowngirl Instagram Shereen Kassam - @funnybrowngirl #CreativeBreakthrough #CreativeBreakthroughPodcast #CreativeBT

These are the cruise ships of your parents and grandparents. On This Podcast Episode:Prompted by a question from Rebekah, who was searching for a unique travel experience, I uncovered U by Uniworld.U by Uniworld have begun a cruising revolution with their newly launched European river cruises for the next generations and beyond, designed for those with a passion for exploring and taste for authentic adventures. That’s right, this is not your parents or grandparents cruise ships.I had the pleasure to chat up Ellen Bettridge, President, and CEO about one of the hottest new adventures that has the travel world all abuzz these days, U by Uniworld European River Cruises.Links Mentioned:U by UniworldRiver Cruise VideosWhere U Going? Thanks for Tuning In:Thanks for tuning in to listen to this episode of Millennial Money. She’s led seminars and conferences all over the world for organizations, including: the World Bank, the US Department of Justice for Judges, Rodale Publishing, Mayya Movement International, Leading Age, Prevention R3 Conference, Donna Karan’s Urban Zen, Soho House, Empowering Latin American Women’s Conference and and the Journalist Salon series: A conversation about Feminism (with best-selling authors, Gail Sheehy, Esther Perel, and Miki Agrawal). Meredith Atwood stole smoothies in college. [That about sums it up.] More About Lauren: http://www.handelgroup.com/ What Lauren does to make her days extraordinary: I get my favorite joke that there is no maybe about it, I am my life’s biggest obstacle AND solution. I remind myself of this often. It puts all the power, all the time, in my own hands and my fingerprints on every crime scene AND success story. Every day I’m in actions to forward my own dreams. There’s the right formula of what makes you deeply happy in your life and truly, we all know what it is. Whether we do it or not is another question. See the species packaging: we’re excusers, blamers, and feel-bad-ers. So long as we have a good enough excuse to have not gone to the gym, not jumped our mate, pushed snooze four times, cheated on our diet, so be it. And so long as we feel guilty about it, we’re still “good humans.” I’ve figured out my formula. It includes working out 3x weekly, having sex with my husband twice a week (yes, a week), finding gatekeepers to help in my crusade to heal the planet, painting, and hanging with my kids. What I’ve found, and what I teach, is Personal Integrity: keeping promises to yourself that are a match for your dream is the secret sauce to happiness, period. We’d never mess with our friendships, and say we’ll meet a friend at the movies, and then just not show. But we have no problem saying we’ll eat healthily this week, and then blow that promise in a minute. We don’t realize that it directly affects our relationship to ourselves and inevitably, how we talk to ourselves about ourselves. I design my day, everyday, BEFORE it unfolds. I write out how my day is going to go, from what I feel like to what happens. It gets me in the driver’s seat of my life. Authoring how each day will go versus sitting back and weather reporting how the day went...It has me not only connected to my friends, but causing my own life. I manifest daily. I see and feel whatever wish I want fulfilled as done, and I imagine it, feel it, and see it. I do this during the day, and imprint it before I go to bed. During the day, I search for signs it is so. Over the next few episodes I will share tips for solo travellers wanting to go cruising, for example: Consider European river cruising. Many of the river cruising lines, including Tauck and Uniworld, operating in Europe waive surcharges on many of their cruises through the year. This form of cruising usually offer more deals for solo guests than their ocean counterparts. It is with asking your travel agent to check which are offering deals when you want to travel and sign up for the email newsletters of lines to get alerts of deals.Set up a Google alert for solo travel deals. If you google “cruise deals for single travellers” or “cruise deals for solo travellers” you will find the latest deals. If you set up an alert and define how often you want to receive them (e.g. Weekly, daily etc) you will be alerted when lines are offering lower surcharges, or waiving them all together, on specific sailings or over a certain period.

Gary Bembridge author of "The Cruise Traveler's Handbook" provides another 60-Second Cruise Tip. For more visit http://www.60secondcruisetips.com and http://www.tipsfortravellers.com/cruise-travelers-handbook Subscribe free to the podcast on iTunes or Stitcher Radio. Passengers with mobility issues wanting to do a river cruise should discuss their needs and limitations with the line before booking to see if it is suitable for them. It is not as obvious a choice as it may seem. Some key factors to consider include: Wheelchair access can be problematic on river ships. They are restricted in length, height and width to pass under bridges and through locks and so the cabins and bathrooms are compact. Ships usually do not have specific wheelchair accessible rooms and bathrooms. In port passengers need to navigate ramps on and off the ships, which can be steep and narrow. Ships will also often dock side by side and require crossing through or over other ships to reach land adding to the difficulty of getting around. Towns along the rivers are historic and tours involve walking on cobblestoned streets and hills. You need to be able to comfortably explore towns this way. Cruise lines like Uniworld include “gentle walking options” for less mobile passengers and transportation to the entrances of less accessible sites where possible but what you can explore can be limited.
