Figures like Brett Weinstein pushed the Emancipation Party, but critics see it as an influence operation steering toward a technological singularity.02;22;38;03 - 02;29;44;06Technocratic Dystopia and Ideological Manipulation: Game B's “sense-making” risks brainwashing, while Dark Enlightenment embraces technocracy. Both aim for a noosphere via internet-driven collective intelligence, using spiral metaphors and AI to erode free will, aligning with globalist visions like the UN's AI World Society.02;29;44;06 - 02;37;38;03Internet of Bio-Nano Things and Smart Cities: The AI World Society pushes smart cities (e.g., C40, Freedom Cities) and human-powered 6G technologies like the Internet of Nano-Bio Things. On this very special Doomer Optimism interlude, we drop in on our intrepid hosts, Ashley Colby and Jason Snyder, as they mix it up with Michael Garfield and the folks at Future Fossils. It was such a tremendous conversation that we figured we should crosslist on both podcasts. So, enjoy, and be sure to subscribe to Future Fossils! Here are the show notes from Future Fossils: Be forewarned: This latest episode is some extremely heady stuff. But thankfully, it's also full of heart and soul... Back in February, Jonathan Rowson posted two clips from his latest in-progress writing to Twitter, where it succeeded in baiting a bunch of the folks with whom I regularly interact as members of the so-called "Liminal Web" into reflecting on the value of partitioning a global boil of loosely-associated "sensemakers," "meta-theorists," and "systems poets" into well-meaning but ultimately dubious cultural taxonomies. I had plenty to say about this from my awkwardly consistent stance of being both enthusiastic and skeptical about apparently everything. But so did numerous other brilliant and inspiring people, including Bonnitta Roy, Stephanie Lepp, Ashley Colby, and Jason Snyder – all of whom I've wanted on the show for a while (with the exception of Stephanie, with whom I had a great chat back on episode 154). So I took it upon myself to press for an on-the-record group discussion about the virtue and folly of putting labels on sociocultural processes and networks that are defined by their liminality: Is this ultimately a good thing, or does it just kill the magic in a foolish servility to economic pressures and the desire to be recognized as A Movement? When we finally met at the end of March for our call, the conversation turned to issues with more urgency and gravitas — namely: Is it even helpful to spend all of our time talking about crises and metacrises when there is so much work to be done? What transpired was easily one of the more profound and inspired conversations I've ever had the good fortune to host on this show, although it was also more beset with insane and infuriating technical problems that getting it ready for release took over thirty hours of excruciating editing. I am so immensely glad I am finally done and can get on with my damn life! But also that I get to share this with you and hear what the rest of our scene(s) have to contribute to this discourse. (Some of the people I'd especially love to hear from include folks we mentioned in this episode and/or were part of the original Twitter discussion, including John Vervaeke, Jeremy Johnson, Daniel Schmachtenberger, Kyle Kowalski, Jim Rutt, John Ash, and Joe Lightfoot, as well as people implied or indicted by Jonathan's prompts, including Nora Bateson and everyone involved with DAOs, GameB, cosmo-localism, meta-modernism, and The Dark Renaissance. So, like, half the people I talk and listen to...)
Jim Rutt joins Layman Pascal on The Integral Stage to talk about his recent essay, Musk and Moderation. Does Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter represent a threat or opportunity for social media and the freedom of speech? That isn't clear yet, but Jim Rutt has some advice for Musk, and he discusses it with Layman in a convivial, insult-filled exploration of the challenges of free speech in radically pluralist environments; the new oligarchs and their threat to democratic values; social media and the evolution of public squares; "decorum" moderation versus "point-of-view" moderation; opportunities to move towards GameB values; incentivizing companies to better caretake and preserve free discussion spaces; and much more. "Musk and Moderation" essay: https://quillette.com/2022/04/27/musk-and-moderation/ Jim Rutt is the former CEO of Network Solutions. The New York Times once referred to him as “the Internet's bad boy” due to his reputation for creative mischief. Jordan saw himself pulled into the technology milieu early on and lived a life as an archetypical west coast tech entrepreneur until seeing through the facade & carving another path, of digging into misaligned incentives & existential risks in the world at large. Years later, we see him as one of the originators of the GameB meme. In this episode, Jordan explains to Peth that we are in the middle of a changing system, from an old parasitical system that needs to die. But this is good because it's the chance for us to redesign every institution, all human infrastructure, and navigate the transition to something new. Some of the topics: GameA & Game Crypto space One sentence on the Moloch problem Incentive landscapes The ecology and evolution of crypto Signals that tell you when a system is dying The meme of GameB has two notions. Firstly, the notion of the game. The human world is constructed by humans, and we are making choices in the game of life. We need to realize that we can make different choices and change the game's rules. The second notion is the movement from A to B. How do we go from Game A to Game B? What's the right direction to take? Sure is that every living thing & human-made system has a finite life span. Every system will eventually get parasites, so we have to gracefully put it to rest and make space for the birth of a new system. How do we know the time has come? "If it's shitheads everywhere then you know it's the end of the cycle." Jim has a talk with Julyan Davey inspired by Julyan's essay series “Weaving a Non-Dual Civilisation.” They discuss the “sublimewe” modality as a means of shifting into a GameB mindset, incorporating the intersubjective world into our models, interweaving inner & outer work, initiation camps for the GameB paradigm, a non-Jungian application of the shadow, how … Continue reading Currents 056: Julyan Davey on Weaving a Non-Dual Civilization → The post Currents 056: Julyan Davey on Weaving a Non-Dual Civilization appeared first on The Jim Rutt Show.

Get the AMAZING full show notes on Patreon (free public post).Jim Rutt joins us this week to explore the pre- and post-history of “GameB”, an antidote to the social script of rampant ecocidal profit maximalization. Of course, Jim himself is an optimizer par excellence, a true Boomer if there ever were one who saw the wave of personal computing coming in and rode it like a champion surfer from one tech company to the next. What is the relationship between making it big by connecting people and fighting the entropic onslaught of externality production? We take it back to the middle of the 20th Century to find out: from kid gangs in the DC Beltway to MIT to writing computer models of the atmosphere of Jupiter, car salesman and college textbook peddler, suddenly we're talking about building planet-wide networks of gravity wave detection telescopes and mutually non-commensurable village sex cults? Rivalry and non-rivalry in companies and governance. Holocracy and sociocracy. Are we prophets or fools? Or perhaps more importantly, How do you steal back the train from GameA? The code is simple: intellectual honesty and “a war on politics”. I had a blast talking with Jim and hope you have as much fun listening. Can't wait to hear what conversations come from this…Yours in systems poetry,Michael Get bonus content on PatreonSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/futurefossils. For episode 15 of LOVE THE SYSTEM, Layman is joined by Welf von Hören to talk about his work co-founding the company, and launching the app, Potential, which aims to transform users' phones to help them unlock better choices. Together they explore the potential for technology to help individuals strengthen agency, set and keep intentions, outgame the attention economy, and interface with AI to make omni-win decisions. How can social media, wisely used, help individuals and communities develop and transform? What is the role of profiling, and how can already-pervasive data collection be refined and improved, and turned towards individuals' and communities' health and benefit? For Integral, GameB, and Metamodern communities, what is the right relationship to money, and how can these communities be empowered to really impact the world? Welf von Hören is the co-Founder and CEO of Potential company, which produces an app to transform users' phones to help them unlock better choices. He is an applied philosopher, product designer, and software engineer. He studied at CODE University of Applied Sciences, trained with Human Systems, and co-hosts Humane Tech Berlin. Link to article: https://bit.ly/33fKzxRLogan Paul has managed to inadverntely stir up controversy time by creating his very own gaming inspired table. Paul took to TikTok to show off his unique project, which involved him dunking 15 Game Boys into epoxy resin, covering them with more of the resin and then popping the whole thing inside a Pokémon inspired frame. Alongside the video, he wrote: “First epoxy resin project… Game Boy Colors & a metal Pokémon frame made for a nice little tabletop.” In a second clip he showed that the whole thing lights up and changes colour. Now, personally, I reckon it looks pretty cool, but his treatment of the beloved Nintendo consoles has not gone down well with all his followers. One person wrote: “I get it's your money. And I respect you for taking the time to learn this, but I think giving these away as gifts or something, especially around Christmas, could've made some peoples days.”Support the show (https://bit.ly/2XdAlJC)
Jim Rutt is the host of one of our favourite podcasts: the Jim Rutt Show. He is a past chairman of the Santa Fe Institute (SFI) with a long and distinguished career in the California tech community. An avid proponent of complexity science, Jim is currently an SFI Research Fellow working in the scientific study of consciousness and evolutionary artificial intelligence. He is also one of the founders and most prominent advocates for Game B, a community trying to figure out what a viable, better civilization could look like and how to reach it. Jim joins us for a wide-ranging conversation, riffing on ideas from Game B, liquid democracy and the cutting-edge thinking on display in his own podcast series. From the historical contingencies which gave rise to Game A to the great acceleration of the 20th Century, Jim helps us take stock of where we are as a global civilisation, the contours of the civilisational crisis we find ourselves in, and possible exit strategies which do not involve collapsing into a neo-dark age or analogous undesirable states. Along the way we talk game theory, energy justice, the role of universities, complexity science and building “Proto-B” communities above the Dunbar number. The media is increasingly (& irresponsibly) covering vaccine polarization, portraying people as either pro-vaxx or anti-vaxx... neglecting the entire nuanced range of perspectives in between. Sure, both of those factions exist. Vax lovers & vax haters are incredibly vocal; expressing equal amounts of premature certainty, waging very public strawman arguments & ad hom attacks against one another. These interactions dominate our social feeds, increasing our cortisol levels & manufacturing feelings of hopelessness. Leading us to believe that we either forfeit our questions & subscribe to one of the extreme tribes, or we accept our fate as pandemic orphans & continue our solo efforts to make sense of it all. Interestingly, actual people are telling a different story. A story of a silent majority without a voice, without a leader to advocate on their behalf. A story of sovereignty, unity, empathy & curiosity. A story that is being ignored, along with unprecedented displays of solidarity across the globe, in favor of polarization, fear, compromised data & propaganda. You don't divide people to lead them, you divide them to rule them. The supply-side of information is organized & riddled with agenda. The demand side is fractured & we are being misled. Don't fall for it. Don't believe the hype. 2/3 of Americans say they cannot express their beliefs for fear of offending others; but as the mania peaks, more of the silent majority are beginning to speak. Humans are deeply connected on a cellular level. It's not a choice; it's our quantum truth. We don't abandon our kind. History has been dominated by the consequences of asymmetrical power & the agendas of a few. This is our time. Our beautiful & unique opportunity to unite over our values, claim our sovereignty, & curate an accountable, transparent, & reliable information ecology with which to inform our collective decisions. This is our time to create a world that people don't want to leave. We can do it #teamhuman, but we've got to connect with one another like never before. You cannot solve a problem with the same level of consciousness that created it. A population, united by their values, cannot be ruled or deceived. Let's pledge our allegiance to humanity & course correct toward the infinite game. Game B. Let's go.
This week's guest is one of my favorite discoveries of the last few years, and someone I'm honored and delighted to know. I can hardly express how strange and exciting it was when I reached out to Tyson Yunkaporta, author of Sand Talk and Senior Research Fellow at Deakin University, and found out he was already a fan of my podcasting…so this episode is a seriously chummy session of mutual discovery by too people perhaps already a little bit TOO familiar with one another's work.
