The negotiation process depends on what needs to be achieved. The individuals involved can either participate in competitive or collaborative negotiation. Both of these utilise non-verbal cues that support the communication style and goal of the conversation. In this episode of the Business Chat podcast, I welcome back the amazing Gary Edwards to carry on with the discussion for non-verbal negotiation. There are lots of factors to consider when negotiating; the environment, tone of voice, physical looks, and mental preparation. But the main thing is having the flexibility and striking balance with negotiation style. How we verbally express our thoughts is equally important as how we gesture our message. When there's an inconsistency between what we say and how we say it, the people we're negotiating with believe the negative, and we don't get the outcome we hope for. Time Stamps: Negotiation style for collaborative authentic leader (11:25) The mechanics of a successful negotiation (17:55) Voice and vocal tonality (21:29) The significance of slowing down and the pause (25:00) How important are physical looks when negotiating? All of us are leaders; you may be leading others, your personal life or your business. We need to learn the art of negotiation to get what we want in life and negotiation is a two-way street where we aim for a win-win outcome for everyone. In this episode of the Business Chat Podcast, I chat with Gary Edwards, who wears many hats including a keynote speaker, coach, and a three-time president of the Professional Speakers Australia (South Australia Chapter). He speaks about the six steps to effective negotiation. This incorporates the balance between results and relationships. Gary discusses the six core skills every leader should be good at if they want to be a good negotiator. Leaders need to be true to themselves and determine whether they can negotiate or not. This guides them on the right path of thinking about the best outcome for all parties involved. Time Stamps: Gary's journey to being a consultant in communication and negotiation (03:57) The wonders of working as a professional magician (08:40) Is negotiation being taught more in schools nowadays? We live in a digital-centric world where we've, unfortunately, lost the art of effective communication. Today's communication channels have become increasingly volatile, uncertain, and complex, making it harder to collaborate and improve problem-solving within organisations. The pandemic certainly hasn't helped much either, but that doesn't negate the fact that effective communication is still one of the most crucial aspects of business success. As a leader, your ability to convey your message with meaning and purpose is extremely crucial in the workplace. Whether you're trying to communicate with a co-worker, the CEO, or an associate, you can take steps to influence others. But there is a problem; not many leaders know how to create a clear message and purpose. It's even more frustrating when leaders struggle to evaluate and tailor their communication to the proper occasion. If you ever want to capture attention and spark behavioral change, you must be able to influence emotion and motivate action. We've all seen great communicators in action. And what they usually do is they command a room and articulate a vision. But how do they manage to be so engaging and persuasive? In today's episode of the Made for More Podcast, Gary Edwards shares strategies for leaders and entrepreneurs on how to have trusted conversations with their colleagues, clients, customers, and prospects. Topics We Discussed Include: Getting to Know Gary Edwards (03:20) Gary's Slow Transition from Law into Teaching and How His Family Reacted to it (06:19) Defining Influence and Its Link to Business Success (09:35) How Leaders Can Strengthen Their Ability to Influence Others (12:15) Influence, Communication, and Negotiation in The Workplace (17:30) The Link Between Poor Communication and Conflict in the Workplace (21:10) Why Proper Leadership Starts Effective Communication (23:10) The Connection Between Beliefs and Behavior (26:45) The Most Overlooked Communication Skills in Leadership (29:17) Gary Talks About His Favorite Magic Trick (34:08) Top Five Tips for Leaders and Upcoming Leaders on Influence (37:49) Connect with Gary Edwards https://www.linkedin.com/in/garyedwardsinfluencecoach/ (Gary's LinkedIn) http://garyedwards.com.au/ (Gary's Website) https://gettalk.at/influen (Ten Strategies to Be More Influential in Any Situation) Connect With Ally Nitschke http://www.madeformore.com.au/ (Madeformore.com.au) Connect with me onhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/coach-leadership/ ( LinkedIn) Connect with me onhttps://www.instagram.com/ally.madeformore ( Instagram) andhttps://www.facebook.com/ally.madeformore ( Facebook) Subscribe to myhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWzPxo5P5XTBcKvQyUQEpyQ ( YouTube) channel Get ourhttps://www.madeformore.com.au/ ( Courageous Conversations Guide) Full shownotes - www.madeformore.com.au/40

Gary Edwards is a Cultural Support Provider for Residential School Survivors at All Nations Hope in Regina. A survivor himself, Gary was rounded up by a gunboat and issued to a residential school in Ile Ste. Croix at the age of 2. Gary talks about his experience, painting pictures with his words- his phrasing almost poetic. He speaks of his journey to healing, the Indigenous way of life, and the many guides who have supported him on his path. It is my hope, as it is Gary's, that someone hears this episode who needs to hear it in order to help in their own healing, As Gary says: "Let's hope that one day this conversations never happens".
Cookbook Series: 1st Edition For our 1st entry into our Cookbook Series, we welcome Chef Gary Edwards to the Virtual Lounge. Chef Gary is a long-time friend of Nick Gelso, he has been a hallmark of the NEPA culinary industry for over 2 decades. Edwards' experience includes country clubs, resorts, hotels and now his own property, Fire and Ice on Toby Creek. When not in the kitchen, Gary can often be seen running or riding his bike through the streets of the Kingston area; exercising and fitness has always been a big part of the chef's life. As you'll hear into today's B&E Bite, that passion for healthy living has followed Chef Gary into his menu planning at Fire and Ice. In our 1st Cookbook Recipe, Chef Gary offers a savory, yet light, spring dish. His German inspired, Schnitzel Style Breaded Berkshire Pork Dish, has local ingredients all over the plate. The Berkshire Pork is sourced at a Northeast PA (NEPA) farm. Also locally, farm-raised are Gary's dairy and produce items. This Schnitzel style, panko breaded (local) pork dish will give you the perfect meritage of rib hugging, savory, home-style cookin' with light, crisp, spring-like, produce features. You won't leave Fire and Ice hungry with this spring-menu treat; nor will you find your day dragging behind you because of some of the heavy basics featured in the dish. The only thing dragging out of Fire and Ice after a Chef Gary Edwards' meal, is time; you'll be wishing the day wouldn't end so you'd have time to eat some more. See contact info below recipe for how to book your reservation, purchase your gift card OR follow Fire and Ice on social media.
